Alright, I see a lot of you are fans of the tv show, Dexter, so I was wondering how many of you are fans of the books? I've only just started Darkly Dreaming Dexter series #1. I had only watched one espisode in the latest season and loved it and then I found out there was an actual book series. So how many of you have read them or are currently reading them, and what do you think of the author, Jeff Lindsay?

I've only seen one book at my local library by him... so I haven't checked it out. But from the looks of it -- he seems to be a decent writer, so I plan on trying to get a hold of as many of his books as I can and start from the first one onward.

Having not long started watching the television series, I actually wouldn't mind having a look at them. As far as I understand it, while the first season of Dexter follows the plot of Darkly Dreaming Dexter quite closely, the show then deviates and involves original storylines in subsequent seasons. I'd be interested to compare S1 and the first book at the very least.

That's interesting information to know. I didn't know how much they followed the books.

Well, like I said, I think that it's just the first season. S2 doesn't follow the narrative of the second book, S3 of the third, etc.

I've read them, and mainly the first season follows the book fairly well, although in the book it's not Doakes who gets whacked, it's someone else on the force, and Deb knows her brother's dark secret.

The others works, no, not so much. They have some few characters seen on tv, but the storyline with Astor and Cody is quite the dark material.

The books are interesting in and of themselves, they delve into the real reason that Dexter is the way he IS and it's not just about what happened to mommy dearest.

These two points pique my interest for sure. I'm definitely going to hunt down at least the first book.

I've been a fan of the TV series for a while, but only just got copies of the books recently and started reading them.

I've finished the 1st book and I'm dearly wishing that La Guerta had died in the show as well, because man she drives me crazy!!!
