Carolyn Pickles is a name that many would not immediately recognize, and yet she is a talent who deserves far more recognition than she receives. Known mostly for her appearances on the West End and British television, from Emmerdale to The Tales of Para Handy, she also worked with Roman Polanski in her most prominent film roles on three occasions in the late 70s and early 80s.
It is unfortunate that she is so underrated because her performance, as brief as it was, contributed greatly to the effectiveness of the first Malfoy Manor scene. While her one line reading was haunting indeed, she managed to convey the anxieties of her character through little more than facial expressions at a distance, adding genuine sorrow to what was an otherwise dark, foreboding scene.
