I made this poem (epic?) while listening to Amergin's Invocation on Lisa Gerrard's album Immortal Memory

How splendid it was, the Golden Age since past
Founded by the best of friends, arch magicians and outcasts
Across the Isles the wind of Avalon blew
'Ere the Sword of Truth splintered was when Merlin’s falcon flew
He helped the land to health and growth in his wisest way
It was he who chose Arthur to retrieve the sword on that sunny winter's day
Benevolence shone upon the Order of the Round Table
As was borne from their equality, every person was able
Men and women together at last, lifted high by their fair society
As was true of Gryffindor, guardian of stags and defender of the weak, joyful in equanimity
As well for pragmatic Slytherin, who kept watch on those who passed
As well for airy Ravenclaw, for as long as knowledge would last
As well for good Hufflepuff, who was the healer and driver behind the Age
Where men and women were equal, and democracy was all the rage
These four were Merlin's apprentices, hailing from across the Isle
They had founded a school for magic, surpassing the glory of Camelot by a long mile
The three Peverell brothers, hailing from Kent, created the Deathly Hallows
As the Welsh village where Gryffindor was born became known as Godric’s Hollow
The years went on as King Arthur justly reigned
Under Merlin’s astute guidance was danger surely slain
The Golden Age was cleaved in two by father's schemes and son's betrayal
Merlin knew his land was in peril so he sought out the Wand, to no avail
Defeated by his own haste and impatience, Merlin fell from life by a lie
And into the cave which would bare his name, where none escaped alive
Lancelot, the most courageous of the knights, sought after the Stone
He, too, was defeated by his recklessness as time ate away at his bones
But Gawain, pure of heart, out of all the knights, sought not the Cloak
For years it had already been in his family, passed down from father to son, mother to daughter
At the end of a long and gracious life Gawain was laid to rest
In the middle of a potter's field where died the most humblest
But Hogwarts stood amidst all the treachery scouring the land
It was hoped that all four Houses would continue hand in hand
The legacy of King Arthur's court, and Merlin's wisdom, in Scotland
But Slytherin was distrustful of those with no magic in their veins
He feared their numbers and of their betrayal, when they would take the reins
So he left a secret defense for his bloodline heir to wield should they become a pain
But the secret was forgotten, and Slytherin left Hogwarts sundering the ties forever
And so the remaining Founders three drifted apart as well, no longer showing any semblance that they were once together.
