*SPOILERS* Great news about Book 5

Daily Propheter

I'm so sorry for being too blind to see a thread already on this subject, but hey! I just found something interestting at this a website
It says...

[JKR] had some great news for fans impatient for book five.
Newsround's Lizo quizzed her on the next book in the series and as well as saying she enjoyed the film, revealed that the book would be ready very, very soon.
She said it just needed a tiny bit more tweaking and then she'd be ready to hand it over to the publishers.

That's good news!!! Yay!!! Someone move this or merge this or close this or do whatever so that it's on the right spot please!!! Thank You. I'm going to sleep now, I got school in the morning... G'Nite Everyone!!!

She may be nearly ready to turn the manuscript in (but how many times have we heard that already?) but even if it went to the publishers tomorrow we'd still be several months away from publication. I'm not holding out much hope.

Here's an update...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/tv_film/newsid_2401000/2401765.stm
It says...

[JKR] said that the almost finished fifth book is much darker in tone than the previous stories.

Speaking to Lizo at the world premiere of The Chamber of Secrets she described what was in store in The Order of the Phoenix.

"It is dark," she said. "There's a bad death in it that I haven't enjoyed writing."

J K also said that the book now looked like being even longer than Goblet of Fire.

She said: "At the moment it's 38 chapters."

That's a chapter longer than the last book!

She's now putting the finishing touches to the manuscript which she says is just "weeks away" from being delivered to her publishers.

"I'm really pleased with it," she said. '[I'm] just going to tweak it a tiny bit more, then the publishers will have it."

The book should be ready in the shops about five months after that.

Very Yay!!!

God! :censored:, why does it have to take 5 MONTHS to publish it? I don't care if there's a reasonable explaination for that. It makes me mad. However long they take to edit it, that's fine. We need them to edit it. But that can't take more than two months, can it?

Anyway, there'd better not be any big plot holes, like with GoF. We'd NEVER get it if that happened.

JoFaye
November 5th, 2002, 12:25 am
5 Months!! What do they need 5 months for. It's
already written. They don't have to set up by hand
anymore. I can't stand this. I just can't be reasonable
and patient any longer. Give me the book, or an untold
number of teddy bears will die. Do you really want to
carry that around on your soul, book publisher?

It takes 5 months to print it, and make it look like a book! LOL, I need this book, I've been waiting FOREVER!!!! (2 years and 4-5 months!!)Oh, well at least we'll know soon when it'll be coming out, and not just be guessing!

I am getting almost twitchy waiting for this book. I understand that it will be several months after she turns it in to the publishers before I get it in my hot little hands.

I think that the wait after it's been handed over will be more agonizing than the last two years. There will probably be workers at Bloomsburg who leak jucy details, etc. etc. Hey, whatever works for hype.

dantares
November 5th, 2002, 12:01 pm
I can't wait anymore. I reckon we start a petition to make them publish the book in 1 month. I don't care they have to stay overnight every single day to complete it! I just need it!

Inkwolf
November 5th, 2002, 1:10 pm
Now, now...patience....first it gets turned in...then the editors all read it and demand changes....JKR makes the changes, turns it in again....the editors reread it again, and possibly ask for more changes...eventually it is considered finished...the publisher looks for a printer who has the resources to print up a first edition of probably SEVERAL MILLION COPIES!!!! The printing company gets their graphic designers to do type selection, layout, the general look of the book....artists are hired to do cover art, and any illustrations....everything has to be approved by the publisher first...the publisher leaks early copies to book reviewers (a few of which end up on Ebay, going for a few million dollars each) and arranges the hype and advertising...hey, printing posters and making TV commercials and getting them on TV takes time, too...SEVERAL MILLION COPIES are printed!!!! This takes time......shipping is then arranged: these books must all arrive and be available all over the entire country on the SAME release date--all severl million of them!

When you think about it that way, 5 months doesn't sound that shocking. And at least we know it's on the way. (Do we all have nightmares about JKR being hit by a bus and never finishing the series? :D)

....And, after all that, we all pile into the bookstores and grab our copies of OoP, and read them THAT VERY SAME DAY and start the loooooong wait for Book 6.....

Yes, I must admit, I've been worried about her dying. It's a completely unfounded worry, of course, but still....

(that's poses an interesting question: Let's say JKR is about to get smashed to pieces by a gigantic wrecking ball heading her way. I wonder if any of her extremely devoted fans would sacrifice their life for hers, and dive in front of it? And if they did, would you be relieved? :scared:)

I completely agree with Inkwolf, and I'd like to add that this *is* Harry Potter we're talking about: Both JKR and the publishers know they're dealing with highly obsessive fans who will pore over every little detail of the book hundreds of times to prove or disprove their theories, make new ones, and then proceed to sit on CoS Forums and discuss them at length. They are not going to rush the book if it means less than perfection :)
However, an encouraging thought is that to the publishers, Harry Potter must be synonymous with $$, and now that they'll have some control over the process, they'll try to create a delicate balance between perfection and profit. In other words, they won't drag it out more than necessary.

My only worry is that the book will come out while I'm on summer vacation, outside of the country. I think I'd make someone send me a copy by mail :D

'Order of the Phoenix' Finished Says J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has uttered the words every fan of her books has been waiting for - the fifth part of the magical saga is finished. The pregnant writer has revealed that the new book, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, is longer than the fourth tome, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, by one chapter. She says, "At the moment it's 38 chapters. I'm really pleased with it. I'm just going to tweak it a tiny bit more, then the publishers will have it." The eagerly-awaited book will be out in shops within five months while the second film adaptation, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, will hit cinemas on November 15.

SOme news that was from TLC.org

Book 5: NOT FINISHED

There are conflicting reports everywhere, and I'm talking to confirmation right this second: Order of the Phoenix IS NOT WITH THE PUBLISHERS YET. What's happening right now is that everyone and their mothers are taking BBC's Lizo's quote from JKR about her doing final tweaking, and making that mean it's done. It's not, it's still with JKR. When it's done, the announcements will be coming from all ends, don't worry - it'll be huge. Hang in, it's coming, it's coming....

I think imdb.com just took the information the wrong way. THE FIFTH BOOK IS NOT FINISH!!!

The article was misleading. Book 5 is finshed. She has finshed writting it. But she is still editing it and has to send it to the publishers.

And I will bet that we will not hear when it is sent. The next announcement will be a release date.

It will be delivered in secret and over the next few days or maye even longer. During this time they will get the paper and setup the timetable to be pubished.

I will bet that The publishers will wait until near the end of the year to announce. They will set the schedule for next year and I know that the 5th book will be thier top pirority.

Hermione

at least we know that JKR is almost finished with book 5,but her

HogwartsChaplain

No, I don't think JKR is going to take any chances with possible personal delays.

If I remember correctly, the baby is due in the spring (April?). JKR is over 35, so the possibilities of things like high blood pressure or early labor (either of which may necessitate bedrest and no work) may increase. Basically, if she's smart (and she is), she'll want to finish the book before she begins the last trimester of her pregnancy. If she can't finish it before the baby is born, she'll have a lot of unhappy HP fans (and publishers) to contend with.

On top of that, if she finishes the book in November, that means she basically has December free-- to Christmas shop, prepare for her first Christmas with her new husband, go to her daughter's holiday school stuff (do they do programs and such in Scotland?), etc. She might even roll ideas around in her head for book 6, without pressure to begin writing it right away.

My guess is that JKR will get that manuscript to her publishers yet this month!

Qeomash
November 12th, 2002, 3:16 am
I think this was someone else hearing about the "It's down to the tweaking" quote, and then blabbing it again. I won't consider JKR's writing "finished" untill the pages are being sucked into the publisher's printers.

I really wish she would hurry, I can't wait until she gave birth before she gave up her manual script. If she gave up now, we may be in time to have a 'double happiness', millions of copies of book 5 sold in one night and the birth of her new baby....

soma_sonic_weasley

I'm sure JKR has a few extra dollars to spend on a nanny ;)

...::Edit...::

I forgot to add that the "news" posted at the Internet Movie Database is pretty dodgy. It's just glorified gossip, really. Don't believe anything you read there, especially if it's HP related.

Potassium
November 12th, 2002, 10:58 am
I agree with Evelyn - odds are she's doing all she can now to finish the book, because once the baby comes, she'll have basically zero time to work on the book, nanny or no.

Has anyone got any idea what gender the baby is, or what she will name it either way?

Also I have heard that JKR has written 38 chapters so far in book 5, is this true? Does this mean that OotP will be longer than GoF?

Yes, I heard that the book is 38 chapters, which is one chapter longer than GoF. No one will know for sure how many pages that will come to until the publisher has it typeset. But it sounds like it's at least in the same general range as GoF.

We've waited so long already, five more months isn't going to make much of a difference.

Just think, there will be a day some months from today when the release date will be announced. Then the countdown begins. The next thing you know you're standing in line at midnight with your heart beating nearly out of your chest. As the line moves into the store, there you'll see it. Now your stomach is being invaded with what seems to be a million fluttering butterflies.
And then it's in your hands. You'll want to throw open the cover to begin. No, not yet, not here. The mood must be right. Every nuance of the story you'll want to savor.

It takes 6 months for a book to be published. we'll get the book around June or July next year. that's what i heard from a friend.
I think that JK has said that the rumour the book is comming out next summer is only that--a rumour, and implied it would be out sooner. It was my impression a book could be published in as little as three months, so it might be out next Spring... *looks hopeful...*

Has anyone noticed?? It seems to me that the wording has changed slightly at 2 of the Amazon (us & UK) booksellers? Now it seems that it may be true that they have the book & are in the finishing process, just haven't released the publish date...???

I think if she released the 93 words maybe the book is done. She wouldn't want to take a chance that the plot summation might get leaked if the book wasn't ready.

some few days ago, there was a report on tv, about publishing a book. it could take less time to release it, because it's so very important...
i just hope. i'm going mad, rocketing backward and forward like dobby!!!!

Once the manuscript is done and resides inside a computer then it could take two minutes to typeset it as a book using a package called LaTeX. It's really clever and sorts out all the chapters and which pages should be where on paper in an instant. So it's just the proof reading, artwork, binding and the print run of ooh say a billion copies (to keep us all happy) that'll take time. Judging by the number of people who are on this site, the demand for a copy (even a hardback at £20) is going to be phenomenal.

I'm buying two copies myself. Unless I need a gift when it comes out or something.

I'll probably buy an extra copy too, otherwise my brothers will get the book first and won't let me read it until they're done...they're so cruel.

I have a copy of all the HP books that I won't share. Then I have paperbacks that I will share. Since a PB won't be available I'm doing two hardbacks. There must be a copy available for me to read at all times. I have ordered 3 copies of all the books and two sets of books on tape and 1 set of each on CD for the library. I still don't trust them enough to have a copy in of whichever volume I want when I need to check it out.

Wow, JoFaye you're dedicated to the cause!

I've been trying to preorder my copy for months. I don't care how much it costs, even if I get nasty letters from my bank, so long as I get it and get to live in the Potter-verse again.

If you get nasty letters from your bank, I'll help you with the jelly-legs curse. They better not try to interfere with Harrymania.

Someone saw an interview w/ JKR saying the book will come out in spring time.

(But that might've been said already.)

I'm so desperate that I finally went & bought a set from the UK, that's in the original wording, not changed for us Americans.
It should arrive this week. That is sooo wierd, getting a copy in the "original English"----I always thought I spoke English!!
But I must admit, there are a few words I don't quite know even in the ammended American version.
Is there such a thing as an American-to-English translating dictionary, like when we took a language in school & had to go look up words in the Spanish-English dictionary?? hehehe.
But, I am serious.... What are Kippers? Bangers? Where I live kippered fish is a type of smoking process, e.g. kippered salmon. I think it means something very different in UK English..... Someone told me they were sausage and potatoes??

I could be wrong, but I thought Kippers were an article of clothing.

I'd love to get a hold of the Britian version of the books, just for fun. (Actually, I would rather have the Philospher's Stone than Sorceror's Stone.)

Yeah, I'd like to get the UK version and compare it to the American version. That would be interesting.

Here are links to the differences in each book:
Philosopher's Stone/Sorceror's Stone (http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/differences-ss.html)
Chamber of Secrets (http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/differences-cs.html)
Prisoner of Azkaban (http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/differences-pa.html)
Goblet of Fire (http://www.i2k.com/~svderark/lexicon/differences-gf.html)

After the series is finished, I'll probably buy a set of the UK paperbacks (and keep my US hardbacks).

KATZE: Thanks Very Much for the lexicon!!
That does help...I thought there'd be more differences, but actually, thery're much the same! But, it did seem in a couple places that they changed a name and added a name? Odd.
There are a few words that are different...and some that aren't american at all, but they've modified them from one to another thing we don't say (treacle fudge..? sounds nasty)... Interesting!!

Book 5 in June?
- Virus @ 12:36 PM GMT [12.21.02]
Scholastic.com reports that Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix could be released as soon as June 2003. Or as they say it...

"We now expect publication of the fifth Harry Potter book to occur early in our 2004 fiscal year, which begins June 1, 2003. For the balance of the current fiscal year, we expect lower than previously anticipated Trade and Club revenue amid a weak economy, partially offset by strength in our other businesses and better than expected cost reduction. Accordingly, we now expect Fiscal 2003 EPS to be approximately equal to last year's $2.50, with the benefit of the Harry Potter book five to be recorded in Fiscal 2004."

Dont worry. I don't understand most of it either. :)

I can explain.

Translated from trade speak the anouncement is saying "Um, we won't be making as much money this year as we had expected because JKR is late, and the economy sucks. We are not making less money than last year because we got lucky and have a few divisions which are doing well, despite, and we managed our finances well. We hope the EPS (earnings per share) will be about $2.50 (which isn't too bad for a company that's trading at $35.92 right now). But don't lose hope and sell your shares, because with Book 5 coming out in June, next year will be really big for us in earnings. Please be patient."

For investors the news that earnings will be flat isn't good. It isn't awful, as it would be if earnings were down, but investors like to see continuing growth in earings, year after year. Scholastic is far from dead, it looks to be actually quite healthy with a nice PE ratio of roughly 14-1 (price to earnings), a good product and decent diversification with prudent management. But this announcement may make the stock dip for a while. That's ok, that's the time to buy.

Does this help? More questions, just ask.

Well like someone already posted on the site, kippers are smoked herring that's very popular up in Scotland. Bangers is just a british term for sausages.
