When do you think Book Five will come out?

Title says it all again.

Also, Do you think JK has lost interest in Harry or do you think she's finding the story is getting very complex?

Valerie
July 19th, 2002, 6:24 am
I say mid to late 2003. I really wish she'd get writing, we've been waiting for so long.
I was actually thinking she lost interest in writing the books myself but I do hope that's not true. If anything is going on I'd like for it to be she's working on the 5th and 6th now so there won't be so long of a wait but I doubt that is what is really happening. Maybe the story is getting complex though, it sure seems like it's possible.

I voted for never. Sorry, I'm a pessimist. If she does finish the series, it's not gonna be anytime soon. She wants to wait until all the hype dies down. What she doesn't realize, however, is that it's never gonna go away. The problem is that Harry Potter is not a fad--she's created a quality product, and it's here to stay.

I'm starting to think a sinister plot it afoot. She pounded out the first four fairly quickly, and now that she's over halfway done, she suddenly runs into problems? And they keep changing the release date? Hmmm...seems too suspicious to me.

:rasp: I think that the mistakes she made in Book Four probably bothered her alot. People really pick the books apart and that puts alot of pressure on her so that it isn't as much fun to write as it used to be.

Alicia_Potter

I agree with ReLupin. Everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone has lots of crazy (and not so crazy) fans that ponder every single sentence.

I voted for mid to late 2003 because that's what they said, and because I doubt that she will finish earlier, and I hope that she can't delay it any longer.

Well i had this crazy dream once where it was snowing and i was somewhere and i was watching a TV when i was suddenly aware that OotP was available. Some guy in a black cloak with his hood up handed me something. It was a black book with pealling gold letter on the front the said ' The Order Of The Pheonix ' . I opened it and started reading it and it was an idea i had had for a fic about how a muggle girl saw harry talking to a snake. but anyway i have come tobelieve this is a prophetic dream meaning it will come out in winter which they tell us 2003 so early 2003. But i found this book that has my whole horoscope for all 2003 and it said on january 3 that a message from over seas will fullfil my wildest dreams and my wildest dreams at the moment is Book 5 coming out and maybe Daniel radcliffe wanting to be my boyfriend but any way LOL so lets hope.

I voted mid 2003. More specifically, July... that's when they all seem to come out (or at least book 4, I wasn't on the bandwagon for the other releases.) Of course, I was expecting it last July, and then this July, but I guess I'll have to wait another year, or two, or ten.

I don't know about you guys...but as soon as the 5th book comes out until the time I am done with it, I am not going to post because I want to be suprised. I don't agree. If I were her, and I had the acclaim and pressure that she has, I'd make darn sure that I wrote a quality book.

Plus, you've got to think...we're getting closer to the end, and the books thread through each other a lot. She has to make sure that they are flowing and that the story goes the way that she wants it to. These aren't simple plots and subplots. They all mesh.

I'd rather wait for a really good book, than have her hurry and give us a cruddy book that we've all waited for.

My vote was for Mid to Late 2003. I really cannot see book 5 coming out earlier than that. I think it'll come out next summer (and that has no basis, just personal opinion). I don't think JKR has lost interest in the HP books, but she got married recently (I think?) so she probably has that on her mind. Plus, since book 4 the books are becoming more complex and they would automatically be more difficult to write. She could also be thinking about different ways for each character to turn out. Does she really want this character to die, or should he live? etc. Questions like that. I know I'd have trouble deciding if I were the author of this series! :sigh:

I voted for this year because I'm optimistic. . I agree with martinnyg -

I think she's waiting so long because she want some of the 6th book finished first, so we won't have to wait so long for that also.

I mean, think about it. If we are happily reading them next year or so, and JK hasn't wrote any of book six and we're demanding it by putting pressure on her... she'd probably resign!

Remember what David Heyman said in a recent interview?

"She was under pressure for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, but she was under overwhelming pressure for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire".

I think the books are getting more complicated. I think maybe
she is running into some difficulties with technical sci-fi stuff.

She also had to re-write the last half of number 4 when her
editor spotted a mistake that would have had serious
consequences to the plot.

I believe she will carry through, though. I can't believe anyone,
even J.K. would lose interest in these stories.

To answer Morgoth's question I do think that she is getting tired of the characters but wishes to finish the series for her fans. Book seven will most likely be the last one she does dealing with the Harry Potter universe. She could sell the rights to the characters or have authorized stories like Lucas did for Star Wars.

I think that all the stress she must be feeling with the whole world very lightly pressuring her to finish the next book is holding back her writing. It's known that she experienced writers block whilst writing book five, and i think that she's loaded, she has enough money to support her for life and sometimes she feels that she can just give up the stress of writing about Harry, and that she's lost a bit of the spark she had when she started writing the HP books. But i hope so much that this isnt true! Im desperate for the next book!

You know I was thinking that the other day!

I am wondering why (okay, I heard that she is holding out for more money, she is only getting 1% of the profits! The book will be out in 2 months time, no wait, NEXT year, and so on and so on....I also heard that she has written ALL seven books!) they are giving us all this INACCURATE info! MY thinking is this; 1-they want to boost sales for WHEN it DOES come out. 2-keep us interested (remember no info and every body will forget OR get fed-up and not want it any more, that's if we aren't fed-up already---I know I am!!!!:censored: :censored: !!!!

What??? It takes 2 years + to settle a contract?????? Some thing else is going on that we know nothing about!!!

Yes, she just got married and she is pregnant (I will be the first person to congratulate her and wish her all the best) but if has I am hearing (more and more lately) that ALL SEVEN books are done WHY keep them???? I don't understand????:??:

I know I am rambling! Can you blame me???? I am so frustrated it's not funny!!

What I would like is for "them" to tell us the TRUTH! We are loyal (at least I think so :elaugh: ) and what ever (but NOT that the last 3 books will NOT be published!!!:censored: ANY THING else but THAT!) the problems is, we would understand, I think!

I need NEW MATERIAL! Today I was listening to (audio) to the CoS for like the hundredth time and my mum said "you are going to wear out that tape"! Come to think of it, I have listened to ALL four of them for like the hundredth time! What? I am a nut case when it comes to Harry Potter:silly:

I've been ticked off about this for awhile. I'm so sick of all this tugging at our hopes....giving us vague information on her progress, and not even giving us a decent estimate for a release date. It's just making me so mad.

WHY THE (HECK) CAN'T THEY JUST LET US KNOW WHEN IT'S COMING OUT!??

Argghhhhh!! Sorry, but I'm so sick of waiting. I've listened to the audiobooks about a bajillion times, and I'm actually starting to dislike them! I have very little enthusiasm left for Harry Potter. That feeling of wonder and excitement is dwindling, and I'm starting to criticize the books in my mind...

I don't want to stop liking Harry Potter. I WANT to be excited about Book 5.....I really do.

Why the heck can't they just give us a decent explanation for why it's taking so long? We'd understand if she was having problems, or even if she just didn't feel "up to it" anymore. I just get the impression that they're hiding something from us.

I get that feeling too :(

I think she's lost the spark. I know that it is pretty easy to get bored and frustrated with characters. Perhaps Harry's lot the ...sparkle...?

Perhaps she feels like she doesnt want to write anything more.

I think they should chain her to a chair and get her writing. Doesnt she realise what a responsibility she has now? How many people are waiting on her? How many people will seek to destroy her if she doesnt hurry up...
Whoops, well, perhaps not that far. But im getting a bit cranky. Who knows, perhpas we will get the book, and all be disappointed by it. :(

I dont want to rush her, but I think that everything has happened MUCH to fast. To start making the movies before all the books are realeased!!! I mean, i'm glad they did, but I can't ever remember that happening. I think we shouldnt pressure her, she's written these books at an ok speed compared to other authors, but its true, sometimes i get the feeling that she just doesnt care anymore. We can only write to her, and hope! :D:D

SiriusBlack
October 28th, 2002, 12:22 pm
But her former books have been made at a much faser speed. How come this book takes longer? The reason's obvious. She's not trying,ok, maybe she is, but she doesn't think it as important as before. But I still like her(hope she doesn't come to these forums and read this.)

I think she just has more distractions than she use to, and
she is afraid of losing quality.

Come on J.K. get over it. I'm sure it's already wonderful.
Give us the book.

hermione27
October 29th, 2002, 6:04 am
well shes a prefetionist! :P and it actually took jk seven years to write the first books and plan all seven without all these distractions!

It's true her former books have been written at a lot faster speed but she has had all these things going on! And it's heard that the fifth book is as long as the forth, or close to it.

She just sat at home or in a caffee and wrote her first four books, but now she has premiers, helping with the movie, interviews, a kid, and one on the way. You can't expect magic. I think some fans are being greedy presuring her for the books.

She's such a fantastic author and so devoted to Harry, I dont think she'll give up on him, or has lost interest. Authors enjoy writing, i think again, its just time restraints.

(sorry for the long post)

I think they should chain her to a chair and get her writing. Doesnt she realise what a responsibility she has now? How many people are waiting on her? How many people will seek to destroy her if she doesnt hurry up...

It was fan pressure that drove book4 out on time and yet there was a huge out cry when JKR made the Wand mistake, so she's doing things to her time. she's probably done now just checking mistakes, puncuation, grammar before she sends it on its merry way to us.

Chris Columbus in a phone call with JK Rowling : Yes, we're thinking about making Harry move to Slytherin and oh yes
Minerva is gonna die. What's that? It is Hagrid who dies?

And so on. It will work!

And if that fails we have the pretend to be dying and must know what happens plan to fall back on.

I think because of the myriad of websights that do nothing but analyze every word, she has to feel nothing but intense pressure to make it perfect. The 5th. book is supposed to be pretty big as far as plots are concerned. So she is probably just taking her time to make it perfect for her--and Harry's--fans. I for one want a perfect book than just anything.

I also don't see how she could get tired of the series for many reasons. First and formost, it is a creation of her own mind's wanderings--you can't help but think about what you create. Second, the stories are quite addicting--I feel like I know the characters personally. Finally, she is, and/or has made tons of money off of this--I would be obssessed with anything that made me finacially stable.

We'll see the book early/mid-2003. And I can't wait.

Here is what I believe after reading various recent news articles and the disscussion here. The "early christmas present" that JK spoke of in an article last month refers to the eventual announcement of the publication of book 5. She most likely has it planned out in her head that she will turn it over to the publishers sometime in late November or early December. From that point it will be up to the publishing companies to determine when the book is released, and how long it will take for the book to go through the 'Americanization chamber'. (an imaginary chamber which books, movies, or other works of the such are put through to adapt it to what the society in the U.S. can accept) Most likely the book will appear sometime in June. This is what I currently believe and will continue to believe unless I find some sort of evidence to chainge my belief...... :wow: wow that got long.

After book four came out, I heard about it and started to read all the books. I understand the delay for book four when she had the plot mistake with the editors (mentioned earlier), but how long did it take from "in the publishers hands" to "in our hands" for book four? I hadn't heard of Harry Potter before book 4 came out (shame on me I s'pose).

The reason I ask is because book 5 and book 4 are supposedly about the same length, so we could use that timeframe for this book as well.

My vote: early next year.

She said it should be out within the next 5 months....5 months...not very comforting...trust me, I want this book to come out as bad as you do. I'm sure the only reason she hasn't put it out yet is because there are lots of things going on in her life. She's having another baby you know...

OMG people, cut the poor thing some slask okay? If it weren't for her we'd never have Harry Potter in the first place. Have a tad more patience will ya? It won't be *that* much longer! I know it's hard wait, she's eager for it to be finished as much as we are I'm sure. Look at it this way, Lotr took like 12 years to get out after The Hobbit, be thankful we don't have to wait that long. Just take a chill pill or something.

November 15th, 2002, 12:59 am
I don't mind waiting. It gives me the opportunity to re-read PS, CoS, PoA and GoF, so I can fully appreciate how wonderful they are.

Ultimately, it's not our series; Harry Potter is the creation of JKR and she has the right to determine when we eager fans will have the opportunity to continue Harry's adventures. I'd rather read a decent book that took 3 years to write, than a half-baked, generic clone that was pumped out in a year. I'm sure book 5 will be amazing and most definitely worth the wait.

I agree with rotsiepots as well.

Nobody knows when it will be released. However, JK has recently said that she is very nearly done with the book and it won't be long until it is submitted. Once the publishers have it, we'll get our release date.

I'll say middle of next year, just as I do my finals. I hope we get an announcement any day now. I agree that it's a good thing to wait longer if it means we get a really thought-out book. With the series as far gone as it is, JK has to work harder to keep the characters, plotlines and settings consistent. In the meantime there's always forums and fanfics.

I think JKR's going to take more time with the later books. She's weaved such an intricate web in the existing books that it's going to be hard not to trip over something subtle and make a mistake.

Late 2003 is now my guess. The statement from Scholastic that everyone cites as a reason for the book not appearing before June is a load of bunk in my opinion.

Goes off on an unfounded baseless rant: They (Scholastic) had to put something about HP in their yearly statement to keep their stock holders/venture capitalists happy. They have no idea when HP5 is going to be ready. If Scholastic are in the same boat as Bloomsbury then the bulk of their income is probably from HP. No new HP=Dip in profits=Drop in share price. If they promise a book in the next fiscal year they might keep their share price up.

There enough said. Complete baloney on my part, but that's what I think is going on.

JoFaye

When Scholastic reported to the stock exchange they would have to change their quarterly report because HP would not come out in the last quarter of 02 their stock fell drastically, although they are now doing better. Once again I asked if he was sure, because I did not see it on the site OR even heard it from you guys. He than said that he want to that site yesterday night and found it there; and another employee confirmed it too.

I am just like you guys, trying go get as much info on when book 5 will be out. Any news to me is better than none...well, except the wrong one, and if this is the wrong I do apologize!

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention; he did say that there will be a 8th book but I forgot if he said it was per or post Hogwarts.

Dedalus
January 12th, 2003, 1:08 am
Hmmm. Well I'd treat it as dodgy news, if I were you, FRED ASTAIRE. I think the first to come up with news will be Bloomsbury, who have estimated around the beginning to the middle of 2003, but have no concrete news yet. And the publishers priorities will be the books, not the films. Warner Brothers don't have any hold on Bloomsbury or Scholastic. And since the publishers have the book in their hands, I think that Bloomsbury's estimations are more probable.

So I'd listen out for Bloomsbury news, before Scholastic, since they may publish before Scholastic do any way, and I'd also listen out for primary source material too :)

I heart Sirius

Sounds pretty dodgy, then again maybe i'm just hopeful it'll be out this summer. At any rate, at this poin i'll believe it when it's in my hands. That goes for their being an 8th book too...unless JKR says it that is.

Well. To think about it. The movies 1 and 2 were all put out in November. But I think that the actors are taking a big break. And the fact that other movies are also coming out at certain times and already have a slot ahead of time. So PoA can't take their slot. Unless I guess, they pay that company. I heard that it is coming out in July.

Inkwolf
January 12th, 2003, 3:26 am
All I can find on the site is the same December report that says that the publication date hasn't been established.

It's possible that the bookstore employees have access to some sort of catalog, and that a publication date may have been printed there...BUT that may just be an estimate. I know when I access the Baker and Taylor online catalog, I often see projected release dates which have been passed without the book being published yet. In fact, I seem to remember that they had OoP listed as June 2002 at one point. Dunno what it is now. It may still say 2002. :p

It seems like July...

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc said it hopes to publish "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,'' the fifth book of the series on the boy wizard, in July.

Bloomsbury will agree on a release date with other publishers, which include Scholastic Corp. in the U.S., after author J.K. Rowling submits her manuscript, finance director Colin Adams said in an interview.

"I expect the delivery soon,'' Adams said. "Ideally, we would like it to be published at the same time as others, in July, but we have to be democratic about it and see what the other publishers' requirements are.''

do any of you people understand how long it takes to write a book? especially one that's so long? she says she's just refining it now, so it shouldn't be long. i'm anxious too, but we need to give her time so that she isn't rushed into making a mistake, which can throw anyone off. she says she wants it to be perfect, so let her finish! cheese... be patient, it'll come out in good time. plus didn't she already have the forst three out at the same time? that gave her time to write the fourth, and now she needs to do the fifth, which is taking longer because of her court case, remember? someone said she stole muggle from something and it dragged on for 2 years? she's been buisy so get off her back.

You're not the only one addicted. My roommate told me the other day that he thinks that I'm on Harry Potter crack. It was funny.... but wasn't. Anyway, it's his fault. He told me to read HP in the first place!

I don't think she's tired of Harry, I think she just wants the ending of her books to be perfect.

Even if it comes out in June, it will only be available in my country in december, or maybe not even this year.

i'm guessing book five will be out on july 31st. Has anyone tried to email bloomsbury and/or scholastic about when J.K will turn in the manuscript, at least an estimate? Bloody hell, i've only been a die-hard potter fan for about 10 months, before that i read only read the first and third book and watched the first movie. :p Wonder how the fans who have been waiting from the beginning feel....

June 21st it's official!!!!!

I hoped it would be in June, and JKR granted my wish!!!!!!!

Now I hope she starts on book 6 right away, because another three year wait would be excruciating.
