And then there were three---Remus Lupin's story
"Mommy?" ten year old Remus Lupin's eyes were filled with tears as he watched his mother nervously pacing across the room. "Mommy? What's wrong?"
"I don't know. Just be brave. Everything will be alright." she said pointedly looking away. Her right hand was shaking uncontrolably.
"Why did the wolf bite me?"
"Shh... just go to sleep." His mother cooed.
"Mommy?"
"Go to sleep Remus, now." she said with a finalizing tone.
"Mommy? Will I be okay?"
Chapter 1
Remus Lupin looked at the solid brick wall skeptically. The station was bustling with businessmen while a a couple of people were buying newspapers at a nearby stand.
"Mom? Are you sure about this?" He asked her uncertainly.
"Yes, dear. You just run straight at the wall." She said off handedly, motioning at the barrier. Remus didn't seem sure about this at all. But he supposed...
Remus took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and ran at the wall.
"Honey, you can open your eyes now." His mother said gently prodding him.
He opened his eyes a crack and squinted at the scarlet train that now stood before him. Hundreds of students, all donned in muggle clothing were boarding compartments.
Then, remembering something, he turned to his mother.
"But, what about the moon?" he said, lowering his voice.
"Professor Dumbledore has got that all sorted out. Don't worry about it." The train whistle blew and his mother pushed him towards a compartment. Remus struggled to keep his footing as she shoved him through the doorway.
"It's time for you to go. Have a good time at Hogwarts! Make lots of new friends!" She said cheerfully.
Remus turned so his back was facing her and rolled his eyes.
"New friends? Since when did I have old friends?" He muttered darkly to himself, now looking for an empty compartment where he cousld barricade himself until they reached Hogwarts.
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Finally, he found an empty compartment at the end of the train.
He plopped down in a seat and took out Hogwarts: A History. Turning to his favorite chapter, "The curse of the Defense against the Dark Arts", he settled down, leaning against the mahogany paneling.
"What'cha doing?" A boy with long black hair asked rather loudly from the door of the compartment.
Remus snapped out of his reverie and immediately pulled out his wand and said a jinx.
The boy was immediately hit with the Jellylegs curse and collapsed onto the ground. Remus cupped his hand over his mouth and fumbled for his wand to say the countercurse.
"What did you do that for?" Another boy asked him, walking into the compartment as well, his wand raised and ready to attack.
This new boy had untidy black hair and bright blue eyes.
"Well, aren't you going to answer me? Or are you mentally deficient or something?" the blue-eyed boy commanded.
"Sorry. I thought he was going to hex me." Remus said apologetically.
"I just asked what you were doing." The boy on the ground said exasperatedly.
"So you had to hex him?" The boy with the untidy hair questioned.
"Sorry." Remus repeated, looking down at his shoes. He didn't really want to pick a fight with anyone.
The boy with the messy hair's eyes seemed to soften.
"Hey. My name is James and that pitiful lump on the floor is Sirius." He said to Remus.
Sirius tried to look indignant but failed miserably when he collapsed on the floor again, his legs unable to support his weight

And then there were three - Remus Lupin's story
"Hey!" Sirius called from the ground. "Now that we're friends, would you mind removing the curse?"
"Friends?" Remus said quietly. He had never had friends before. Or at least since the bite...
"Yeah. We are your friends, right?" James said anxiously. "I mean, unless you're Slytherin scum, you're our friend, right?"
Remus shook his head. From the sounds of Slytherin in Hogwarts: A history it had turned out the most dark wizards out of the four houses.
"What?! You mean you're not our friend?" James said in an almost stunned manner.
"No! I mean, yes!" Remus said looking confused.
"Make up your mind already!" Sirius said. "I don't want to be hexed forever!"
"You misunderstood me. Yes, I want to be your friend." Remus said in a panicky voice. He didn't want to lose new friends, or at least, people who considered themselves his friends.
"Good." James sighed in relief. "For a minute, I thought you were aiming for Slytherin."
"Okay, now that we're all good mates, could you PLEASE take this hex off me!" Sirius shouted from the ground, trying to push himself onto the seat.
Remus was about to say the countercurse when he heard the door slide open...
All three of the "good mates" looked up at a boy with greasy black hair who was now smirking at Sirius with a disdainful look.
"So, you found someone else to bow to instead of Potter?" He asked, sneering at Sirius who was despertly trying to get up from his present state.
"Snape.." Sirius muttered darkly, still trying to fight the hex.
"Who should be talking about bowing down to somebody, if you know what I mean." Sirius said, matching Snape's sneer perfectly.
Remus stared at the two boys who were both staring daggers at each other.

And now for the third enstallment... Enjoy!
Snape raised his wand and pointed it at Sirius. James whipped out his and then pointed at the greasy-haired kid, while giving a meaningful glance to Remus, telling him to do the same.
"Three against one. You sure you want to go through with this?" James said in a low threatening voice, slowly advancing on the kid.
"Encephity!" Snape yelled, releasing a dark red beam from his wand. Sirius promptly loss consciousness and slumped into a heap on the floor. Remus racked his brain for a spell he could use but James got there first.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" He yelled, making Snape now floundering in mid-air. James then proceeded to knock Snape into the ceiling, giving a total of two knocked out bodies on the floor. Remus winced at the sight of blood coming from Snape's temple.
"That's what you get for messing with my friends..." James trailed off, now heaving Snape out of the compartment.
Sirius looked throughly knocked out, so Remus and James talked for awhile about different things in the wizarding world.
"You're not muggleborn then?" James asked, helping himself to the mountain of sweets he bought from the witch with the cart.
"No, my dad left when he found out I was..." Remus was about to say "a werewolf" but that would be... He wanted to prolong the moments in which he had friends.
"A what? Wizard?" James prompted, offering Remus another chocolate frog.
"Yeah..." Remus said, feeling bad for lying to James.
"Common story. Muggles don't get anything, do they?"
Sirius was now starting to regain consciousness and was groggily motioning in the air.
"Stupid Snape!" he said, still suffering the effects of the curse.
"Who was that kid?" Remus asked, with a concerned look on his face.
Sirius muttered something that sounded like "Snivellus Snape"
"Snivellus?" Remus questioned. Snivellus hardly sounded like a proper first name.
James and Sirius burst out laughing.
"No, I said Severus." Sirius said, now in full grin. "We could call him that though. It fits doesn't it?"
James and Sirius patted Remus on the back and settled down for the rest of the train ride.
angel spirit July 28th, 2004, 4:08 am Hey! Thanks for the feedback which you can find here. I know three updates a day is a bit much, but I love this ficcie! Suggestions and comments are very much appreciated.
The gentle chugging of the train came to a stop and Remus opened the door to the compartment, smiling in his present good mood. He finally had friends...
Snape had apparently woken up and left, because there was no trace of the greasy haired boy in sight. All of the students filed out slowly, though James and Sirius made their way to the back of line, motioning for Remus to come over.
"Filibuster no wet-start Fireworks Deluxe package..." James whispered, pulling a package out of his robes. Sirius grinned mischeviously while rubbing his hands together.
"Are you sure those are safe?" Remus asked cautiously, not trusting any wizarding product.
"Course they are," James said offhandedly, now started to open up the box. They got off the train and shuffled in the back of the line towards two men, both exceptionally tall.
"Now, you'll be followin' me and Hagrid to the boats," one of the two men's voices boomed.
Remus glanced at Sirius and James again, who had now gotten the box open and thrown it aside. He didn't want to spoil their fun, but he didn't think this was really quite safe.
"O-kay, let's get in a boat..." Sirius whispered to James and Remus as he motioned towards an empty boat. James pushed the fireworks under his robes and hopped in, swaying it slightly.
"Good, it's stable." he said, rocking it slightly.
Just as they were about to push off, a small mouseish looking boy, ran up to them.
"C-can I sit with you," the boy stuttered, nervously glancing around at the other boats, who were lauching off from the dock.
"Aww. Come on..." Sirius muttered so only Remus and James could hear. "I don't want anyone ratting on us."
Remus though felt sympathy for the boy and moved over next to James.
"Sure, get in." he said, smiling slightly.
"Wha'cha do that for!" Sirius said in a perfectly loud voice, standing up defiantly.
"Sit down Sirius..." Remus said in a warning tone, as he pushed the boat from the dock.
James took out the fireworks immediatly and started setting them up around the boat, paying no heed to the looming castle which had most of the students in awe.
"You have a name?" Sirius growled at the timid boy, who looked as though he was ready to pee his pants.
"P-P-peter Pettigrew..." he said, inching away from a firework close to his foot.
"All ready!" James said, grinning in a maniacal manner. "I'm just going to do a little bit of modifying to them..."
He prodded the fireworks with his wand and muttered a few words. The firework's fuse were lit and several people in the boats looked on in confusion.
BOOM!
The fireworks shot up into the air and exploded into gold and red showers of sparks, startling the whole fleet of boats which erupted into "Oohs and Aahs".
But there was one firework left, the one James had modified. As it shot up in the air, Remus felt a sense of dread well up inside of him...
The firework exploded into a yellow script which rearranged itself bearing these words...
WE'LL GET YOU SNIVELLUS
angel spirit July 28th, 2004, 3:11 pm O-kay, thanks for the feedback so far, and I'd much appreciate it if you write. Feedback can be found here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=31130)
Remus felt the dread settle in his stomach and whipped around to face James.
"Do you know how much trouble you can get in for threatening another student?!" Remus yelled, drawing the attention of the other students who were now ignoring the grand castle completely.
"Aww..come on, it was just a bit of fun..." Sirius trailed off there, looking at the glint in Remus's eyes.
"No Sirius, he's right." James said, forcing Remus down onto his seat again. "We shouldn't have done it..."
Remus was satisfied as the boats slowly docked and the students jumped out, eager to get inside. The huddled mass followed "Hagrid" and the other large man past the huge oak doors into the warm entrance hall.
"Thank you Ogg," A stern bespectacled lady in dark red robes adressed the other huge man. "Hagrid," she said inclining her head.
The two giant men left and the lady turned to the group of first years.
"Hello, my name is Professor McGonagall, I'm the head of Gryffindor and the Transfiguration teacher here at Hogwarts."
At the Gryffindor part, James smiled easily, elbowing Remus and James. Remus smiled, but was innardly doubtful. James and Sirius seemed like prime canidates for Gryffindor, but he...
"You will spend the rest of seven years in this school. If you choose to good and follow the rules, points will come to you for your house, which you will be sorted in shortly. But if you are a troublesome bunch then points will be lost..."
James and Sirius looked at each other winking, while Pettigrew bounded up and down smiling.
"Now, into the entrance hall." she said, opening the doors with a wave of her hand, leading them into the warm glowing hall. Several hundred students looked back at them, which made several kids nervous and who stumbled in line.
A lone patched and old hat sat on a wobbly three-legged stool. The students looked around and some even tried to sit down at the house tables, thinking they got to choose.
Remus looked at the hat in wonderment and almost fell back when it's brim opened wide and began to... sing?
I see all you young ones,
With bright minds in the making.
Will your home be in Gryffindor?
With brave minds for the taking?
Or will it be in Ravenclaw,
Whose brains are so much prized?
Or in Hufflepuff,
Where loyalty won't be defied?
But you might be in Slytherin,
Where great ambition can be seen?
One thing is for sure,
It's all up to me.
So put me on tight,
And don't be worried at all.
For it's only seven years
That depend on my call.
The students politely applauded and Professor McGonagall pulled out a long scroll that almost fell to the floor.

angel spirit July 28th, 2004, 8:04 pm Thanks for the feedback so far and please please please give some here! (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=31130) Anyways, onward!
"Brendan Amery!"
A small blonde-haired boy started to walk forward towards the hat but tripped on the hem of his robes, making the students howl with laughter.
Blushing red, he shoved the hat on and within five seconds the hat gave a loud shout of "HUFFLEPUFF!".
The Hufflepuff table cheered loudly and Brendan scurried off.
What if he didn't make Gryffindor? He guessed that he might still be friends with Sirius and James... Remus sighed and shoved some of his hair out of his eyes.
James, seeming to read his mind, patted him on the back.
"Don't worry. Will still be your friends even if you don't make Gryffindor. As long as your not in Slytheirn that is." he said grinning widely.
"Bellatrix Black."
A dark eyed girl with long black hair strode up to the stool and snatched the hat out of McGonagall's hands. McGonagall looked highly affronted but stood back as the hat cried "SLYTHERIN!" within five seconds. Bellatrix shoved it back into her hands and walked to the Slytherin table who was cheering and laughing at her antics.
"Is she related to you?" Remus asked Siruis, a clearly surprised look on his face.
"Yep. And there's another bad egg coming right up," Sirius muttered pointing at a blonde horse-faced girl.
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Sirius Black!" McGonagall called grudgingly, clearly expecting a Slytheirn call.
The hat was taking a while to decide, several times stopping in mid-call. The hall was mixed now with restlessness and interest at the longest sorting they had ever seen.
"SLY-" Sirius punched the hat which immediatly changed in call to "GRYFFINDOR!". Sirius gave a huge smile and sat down at the Gryffindor table, giving Remus and James a thumbs up.
"Sarah Chapman!"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
"Reynold Delaney"
"RAVENCLAW!"
"Lily Evans!"
"GRYFFINDOR!"
Several other names passed and before Remus knew it, McGonagall called in a loud voice, "Remus Lupin."
Remus almost walked in a half-daze as he approached the Sorting Hat. Shoving the hat on, he kept running over the same five words. "Please put me in Gryffindor..."
"Ah, this is interesting..." a tiny voice commented in his head. "A werewolf..."
"Please put me in Gryffindor..." Remus pleaded.
"Gryffindor, eh?" the voice mused. "Are you sure Ravenclaw wouldn't be a better choice?" Remus was sure if the hat had a beard it would be stroking it.
"Please..." Remus said, hoping desperately.
"Well, I suppose you have some bravery in you. You're more qualified than "Sirius Black" anyways. Oh I must be getting old..." the hat chuckled.
"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat called, making the Gryffindor table burst into cheers. Remus felt glorifying relief sweep over him as he walked to the table. He sat down next to Sirius and turned his attention to the rest of the sorting.
"Dameon Matika."
"GRYFFINDOR!"
"Lucius Malfoy!"
"SLYTHERIN!"
"Patricia Noling!"
"Ravenclaw!"
"Peter Pettigrew!"
"GRYFFINDOR!" Sirius almost fell out of his chair at this, thinking that Hufflepuff was going to be the call.
"James is coming up soon," Remus muttered to Sirius. Sirius nodded and sure enough, James Potter made his way up to the Sorting Hat. He sat on the stool and took out his wand and starting fiddling with it. It almost looked as if he was muttering instructions to the hat. James tapped his wand on the brim and the hat shouted "GRYFFINDOR!"
James made his way to the Gryffindor table and sat down between Remus and Sirius, smiling eagerly.
"I knew you'd get in..." James said to Remus in a matter-of-fact tone, cracking a smile.
"Severus Snape!"
"SLYTHERIN!"
As the rest of the sorting continued, Remus's stomach began to growl loudly. He had hardly anything on the train and wished for the sorting to be over. Finally, Professor McGonagall rolled up the scroll and headed towards the staff table.
Professor Dumbledore stood up and commanded total silence.
"Another year we start and are about to have excellent feast," he said, eyes twinkling. "Another 200 items are now on the prohibited items list, including Filibuster's fireworks."
At this, James and Sirius silently s******ed.
"And please remember that the Forbidden Forest is off limits to every student..." Dumbledore said in an almost off-handed manner.
"Oh and may I see Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and James Potter in my office." he said, not smiling anymore...

angel spirit July 29th, 2004, 1:56 am Please review! You can find it here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=31130). I'll be happy if you even say it's the worst story you've read. Pitiful I know..
Remus felt his throat drop to his stomach. The Headmaster's office on the first day of school! He supposed it had to do with fireworks and felt his head starting to spin. Dumbledore so kindly let him into the school even with his condition... and he was about to get expelled before the first day of school.
James and Sirius had gone an almost pure white, while Pettigrew was stuffing his face with blackberry pudding.
"Well are you going?" a red haired girl prompted, helping herself to another piece of chicken. The three of them snapped out of their reveries and jumped up at once.
"Where exactly is Dumbledore's office?" Remus queried to the whole table in general. A fifth year girl with a badge with a "P" on it gave them pretty vague directions.
"Go to the second floor. Big phoenix statue. Can't miss it..."
So the trio trudged up the stairs, looking blindly for a sign that they were going in the right direction.
"Get rid of it..." a voice whispered.
James and Remus stopped in mid-track at the voice while Sirius kept walking, not aware.
"Sirius, get back here," Remus whispered harshly, yet Sirius kept walking.
"Shh... someone's coming!" a voice whispered.
"Kid, what's your name?" the two voices both whispered.
"Ummm...Sirius Black..." Sirius said unsure. James smacked his face in exasperation.
"He's o-kay. I know his older brother Regulus. He's in it too." one of the voices whispered.
"Take this, and don't tell anyone where you got it from. Just write in it..."
"Ummm... O-kay..." Sirius said, sounding throughly confused.
James and Remus heard shuffling and Sirius came around back the corner. He was holding a small black book that looked at least 20 years old.
"They gave me this..." Sirius said, holding out the book to Remus and James. Remus flipped it over and read the small inscription reading
Bought at: Vauxhall road
"That's strange..." Remus mused, turning it over in his hands.
"Anyways, let's find Dumbledore's office." James said, pressing onwards down the hallway.
Eventually they came over a large phoenix statue with a gargoyle situauted right in front of it.
"Password?"
"Great!" Sirius mumbled sarcastically.
"Leave this to me.." James said, rubbing his hands together. He tapped his wand to the gargoyle's head, muttering a few words. Immediatly the gargoyle nodded and jumped inside. Remus and Sirius looked at James in shock.
"Little talent of mine." James said, walking into the Phoenix's wingspan. "You coming?"
Remus and Sirius jumped on the now moving platform, all of them dreading the visit with Dumbldore.

The revolving staircase stopped at a door with a griffin-shaped knocker. Sirius knocked on the door hesitantingly and opened the handle, exposing a beautiful circular room. On a shelf the Sorting Hat sat, almost thrown haphazardly.
Remus sat down in a chintz chair in front of Dumbledore's desk, while Sirius and James wandered around the room examining various items. One that particularly interested James was a silver instrument that spinned incessantly and turned gold when you touched it.
The door creaked open and all three of them jumped in surprise.
But Dumbledore was nowhere in sight.
"D'ya think it's because of the fireworks..." Sirius trailed off, clearly nervous.
"Naw... It couldn't be, could it? It wasn't on the list of prohibited items when we came was?" James said, now sitting down next to Remus.
Remus though was absorbed by the diary that Sirius gave him. He took a ballpoint pen off of Dumbledore's desk and wrote in the corner of the first page "Remus Lupin".
Immediatly the ink disappeared and was replaced by the words "Hello Remus Lupin..." Remus shut the book immediatly and stuffed it in his robes. The diary wrote back?
"Hello Mr. Potter, Mr. Lupin and Mr. Black." a voice said from the opposite end of the room.
The three jumped yet again and turned around to face Dumbledore who was donning robes of dull yellow.
"Now I have to adress you on seperate matters concerning the Sorting tonight." Remus wondered what this was about. He hadn't done anything wrong during the Sorting had he?
"Mr. Black, it seems you altered the hat's decision with physical abuse." Dumbledore said giving Sirius a severe look. Sirius was not maintatining eye contact but rather concentrating on the rug.
"And you Mr. Potter seemed to have done the same with magical means..." he said, giving James a equally severe stare.
"So I must ask you kindly to re-sort yourselves right now," Dumbledore said, grabbing the Sorting Hat from its resting place.
James took out his wand panicking and muttered something at Sirius causing a red flash of light to engulf the room. Remus gaped at James who now was staring at Dumbledore maddeningly.
Dumbledore merely shook his head at James and placed the Sorting Hat on Sirius's head. The hat immediatly called in a dull tone, "Gryffindor..."
The exact same thing happened with James. Dumbledore put the hat back on the shelf and turned to Remus.
"Now I would like to talk to Mr. Lupin privatly, if you don't mind Mr. Black and Mr. Potter." He said, incling his head towards the door.
Sirius and James gave Remus an odd look and proceeded out of the room.
"Now as to your condition..." Dumbledore said, now smiling.
"I've arranged for Professor McGonagall, your head of house to escort you to your place for transformation." Dumbledore said wistfully.
"Yes sir."
"Every night proceeding the full moon you are to meet her in the entrance hall at 8 o'clock. You may go..." Dumbledore said, opening the door with a wave of his hand.
Remus walked out sadly, dreading the full moon in one week and wondering how he would tell his new friends...
angel spirit July 30th, 2004, 12:39 am Please give feeback! You can find it here. At least I have one reader so I'm continuting :)
Sirius and James were waiting at the bottom of the staircase, talking about the fireworks display of the night.
Remus smiled tiredly and the three started to walk to the main staircase.
"By chance do any of you know where the Gryffindor place is?" Sirius asked, scratching his head at the huge complex of moving staircase. James nodded and started heading up one to their immediate right.
Sirius trudged along while Remus looked at James strangly. First he had altered the Sorting Hat, magically gotten the password from the gargoyle, then he had performed some kind of magic right in front of the headmaster's nose, and then he automatically knew where Gryffindor Tower was...
As they came upon a landing on the seventh floor, James led them directly to a picture of a very fat lady.
"Password?"
James merely whispered again and the painting slid open, revealing a long dark corridor.
"How do ya do that?" Sirius asked, hitting James on the shoulder.
"Old family trick..." he said smiling at the two, plopping on a deep red chair. Remus looked around the common room and felt the exhaustion of the day finally seeping in. But what about that diary?
After talking with an older student about Gryffindor tower, he headed up to the boy's dormitory, falling on an uninhabited bed. Peter was already sound asleep and Sirius and James were still in the common room playing exploding snap.
He took the book out of his robes and set it on his lap. Taking out a quill, he dipped it in ink thoughtfully and placed it on the paper. The words "Hello Remus Lupin" were gone.
My name is Remus Lupin he wrote again, waiting almost eagerly for a reply.
You already told me that... But anyways, my name is Tom Riddle the book wrote back. If the book was a person, he was sure it would be laughing.
Why are you in a book?" Remus asked, later thinking how stupid that sounded.
You mean, you don't know?"
No... one of my friends was given this book and he gave it to me...
Who gave it to you?
Sirius Black
Oh, I see. That's strange... Why would he give it to you?
Why is that strange?
One minute, do you know who I am?
Tom Riddle?
Yes, but do you know my other name?
No...
Well then... Never mind...Oh and by the way, good luck with your condition...
Remus stared at the book and snapped it shut. How did this book know he was a werewolf?

Remus stared at the book, now wondering if it was some type of Dark Magic. How else would it know that he was a werewolf?
Remus threw himself onto his bed and stared up at the deep red canopy. He looked over at the diary again and threw it under Pettigrew's bed, who gave a loud snore and turned over.
"Stupid butterbeer..." a voice mumbled, coming up the stairs.
The door burst open with James levitating Sirius on a stretcher who was moaning. James shook his head and turned Sirius's stretcher over, making him fall 3 feet to the floor.
Sirius hobbled over to his bed and fell on it with a loud crash. James took the bed next to Pettigrew and the Dameon kid that had been sorted in Gryffindor too.
"G' Night..." James spoke to the room and rolled over on his stomach to sleep.
Remus though was paying attention to the moon. He could feel it waxing with every second, growing bigger until the time when he would have to undergo so much pain...
-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
"Get up Remus!" a voice shouted, followed by the smack of a pillow on his face.
Remus shot up and took out his wand, blindly pointed it in circles. James smiled brightly and took it out of Remus's hand.
"You need to lighten up a bit!" James laughed, fiddling with Remus's wand.
"Come on! We have Potions first..." Sirius said, opening the door for James and Dameon, who had gotten up also. Pettigrew was still lying motionless in his bed with dark circles clouding his eyes.
Remus sat up on the side of his bed and grabbed his bag, slowly stumbling out the door with James.
"What about Pettigrew?" Remus asked in a half-concerned voice.
"What about him?" Sirius smirked, closing the door and locking it with a swift charm.
The trio rushed out of Gryffindor Tower, following James who seemed to already have the castle down by memory.
"You're going to have to teach me how to do that!" Sirius said in a state of awe as James led them in front of a plaque proclaiming "Potions-- 2B-- taught by Professor Black".
"Is she related to you also?" Remus said almost startled.
Nodding, Sirius opened the door and rushed in closely followed by Remus and James. Thankfully, the teacher was late also, so they sat down and took out some parchment.
Remus looked around at the class, and with a sinking feeling realized that they had it with the Slytherins. Sirius and James had just seemed to notice also and each had a cross between a grimace and a smirk.
Snape, a long blonde-haired boy, Narcissa and Bellatrix all shared one table. Sirius, it seemed, was having a staring contest with Bellatrix, who smirked at him and turned away.
"Hello!" a bright cheery voice called from behind the students, making half of them jump into the air.
A tall black haired lady strode to the front of the classroom, wearing robes of emerald green.
"My name is Andromeda Black and I'm going to be your Potion's teacher for the next year at least!" she said, now walking around the room almost skipping.
"Now who can tell me what I'd get if I put together say... asphodel to umm... let's say an infusion of wormwood? How bout you right there?" She was in fact pointing to Snape who looked like he had absolutely no clue at all.
"Ummm..." Lucius whispered something ever so slightly to his ear.
Snape's eyes lit up as if pretending to know the answer and promptly called, "The Draught of the Living Death?"
She frowned and walked over to Snape, drilling her eyes almost into his.
"I don't approve of cheaters, even if they are in my house." she said, "fifty points from Slytherin and a double detention with Mr. Filch.
The Gryffindor population laughed hardly at this, some even banging their fists on the table.
"Ten points from Gryffindor for innappropriate behavior also..."
The class immediatly shut up and paid dear attention.

The rest of the potions class proceeding exceptionally well. Remus paired up with Dameon Matika, one of the other Gryffindor boys, and felt that he had least managed a low A. Precision subjects were defintly not his strong subjects as he tended to get distracted easily.
James, Sirius, and Remus all had Defense against the Dark Arts next and started to make their way up the long flights of stairs to the third floor.
"Where was Pettigrew?" James said, finally realizing that one of their number was missing.
"I dunno.." Sirius muttered, giving a wink to Remus.
"Hmm.." James replied, looking at Sirius suspiciously.
Remus sighed and looked up at the huge stain glass pattern whose colorful design was shining down on the trio. How was he ever going to tell Sirius and James?
Opening the door to the moving staircase hall, Remus shoved the thought out of his mind for later thought. James and Sirius now were talking about Quidditch, something Remus had little experience of. His mother had a broomstick and showed him how to play a bit, but he never really got the hang of it.
"You play Quidditch Remus?" James asked, his eyes alight.
"No, not well anyways... I never properly learned," Remus said, looking down at the floor.
"Well we can remedy that!" Sirius said joyfully, taking out a map of Hogwarts. "James drew this up for me last night, muggle way of course. There's the Quiddich Pitch!" he said, pointing at a crudely draw rectangle outside of the castle.
"Yeah! How bout we meet there after lunch and teach ya how to fly!" James said, snatching the map out of Sirius's hands. Sirius crossed his arms indignantly but James paid no attention.
"We should have a better version of this here map..." James mused. You could almost see the gears spinning.
They had reached the third floor now, and walked into the classroom. Remus wasn't looking forward to this lesson as Professor Dumbledore was the teacher. Last night's episode was not the nicest of things and he wanted to put it behind him.
"So Dumbledore's teaching eh?" James said, taking out his Defence book, "Reckon he's not going to go easy on us.."
Sirius nodded dumbly as Dumbledore entered the room, seemingly gliding on the air. The class immediatly became quiet as he stood next to the desk, smiling benevolently.
"Hello, my name is Professor Dumbledore, though some of you are quite aware of that..." he said smiling, lowering his gaze to the trio.
"Now today we're going to be testing auras." Dumbledore said, taking his wand out of his pocket.
He had read all about auras in several old books of his mother. Apparently they showed the personality and power of an individual. But most people didn't know their own as not to get big-headed.
"Now this is just to get a feel on which level I should be teaching you individually, nothing more." Dumbledore said, now stepping into the center of the classroom.
BAM!
The door burst open and Peter Pettigrew came stumbling in, tripping on his bag which had fallen out of his hans. The whole class shook with laughter as he fell into an empty seat. Dumbledore smilied serenly and motioned for him to come forward.
"Now you can not see your own, but others can. Mr. Pettigrew will be our first person.
Dumbledore cast a pure cascade of shining light over Peter who was shaking terribly. Slowly, he turned a bright shade of green. Remus looked down at his chart. Green was pretty high on the list, number 6 actually out of 15. Neon Green meant the person in question was going to catch up later magic-wise.
James and Sirius were startled, thinking that Pettigrew was going to get the lowest level, white.
Peter sat down and Dumbledore motioned for James to come forward.
James strode confidently to the top of the classroom and Dumbledore performed the same charm. James immediatly turned gold and the whole class gasped. The only one who didn't show any surprise was Dumbledore, who was nodding his head. Gold was the second highest level.
Each one of them took their turn, until Remus was the last one. Dumbledore glanced at him as he walked up and felt a warm light fall upon him. Again the classroom gasped but he didn't hear.
Inhibition was gone...
He felt free...
Like he didn't have a monster locked up inside him...
Like he wasn't a werewolf...

The glowing feeling stopped and Remus hurried over blushing madly to his desk. James and Sirius looked clearly impressed, which made him wonder what he actually did get.
"You may talk amongst yourselves." he said, smiling tiredly. The whole class soon was talking about the neat lesson they just had.
"You had a pretty high aura there Pettigrew..." Sirius said addressing a deeply red Pettigrew. "You might not be the kind of wimp I thought you were..."
James was nodding thoughtfully while he brought the crudely drawn map out of his robes, setting it on the the table.
"What do you say us four make a sort of group? The four most powerful wizards in the year..."
"That sounds awesome!" Sirius exclaimed, drawing the attention of the class, including Dumbledore.
Remus wasn't that sure about it though. Any group that James devised probably would be devoted to trouble-making.
"I suppose..." Remus said in a worrying tone.
"Yeah! And we can come up with secret names for ourselves!" Sirius said exuberantly.
"Whatcha said we meet next week in the dungeons on Tuesday to figure this out..." James said, clearly thinking.
Remus's elbow dropped. Tuesday was the full moon... He had to think of a lie. Maybe his mother could be sick... No. They'd ask how he would know a week before. Stalling for time would be good.
"I don't know if Tuesday is such a good idea guys..." Remus said nervously, hoping they'd buy his upcoming excuse.
"Why?" Sirius asked, now turning and staring at Remus.
"We might have homework?" Remus said pitifully making Sirius and James give him suspicious looks. He immediatly thought how stupid that sounded and blushed.
"Well we might have homework any day--"
"We'll do it at night then!" James said brightly, cutting Sirius off.
Remus smacked his hand over his face and sighed, trying to think of another excuse but his mind ran terribly blank. Maybe if they just trusted him...
"Tuesday isn't a good day..."
"O-kay then..." Sirius said, looking at him suspiciously "Well, we'll do it on Wednesday if it makes ya feel any better..."
"Wednesday is fine with me!" Pettigrew said, drawing the attention of the trio who had completely forgot about him.
"What should we call our group?" Sirius asked thoughtfully, still ignoring Peter.
James eyes lit up at this and brought out a piece of paper, putting it face-down onto the desk.
"Way ahead of you..."
He flipped over the magical paper to reveal a long flowing cursive script, emblazened on a banner waving in the wind, proclaiming
THE MARAUDERS

Pettigrew gasped with glee as Remus shook his head sadly. Now his suspicions were confirmed. This was going to be a group devoted to troublemaking. He could feel it in his bones and by the way James smiled almost maliciously.
Why couldn't they just be a study group?
James seemed to pick up on Remus's a emotions and directed his gaze to him.
"I know you're probably not keen on troublemaking, but did you expect a study group or something?"
Remus looked pointedly away while James smacked himself on his face.
"Come on! We know you're really powerful and smart. You could be the best one of us all for all we know!" Sirius prodded.
Remus looked out the window at the Quidditch pitch which was a vivid green. He needed to keep the friends he had...
"Sure..." Remus said smiling as James and Sirius jumped in the air whooping.
This act recieved another even more piercing glare from Dumbledore. They both slunk back into their seats, blushing but still grinning.
The bell rang for lunch and the class gathered up their things and bid Dumbledore goodbye. The Marauders slowly walked down the great staircases, talking enthusiastically about their new-found group.
"Don't we need like a slogan or something?" Sirius asked, sliding down one of the banisters.
"Yeah..." James said thoughtfully.
"It could be like a password or something so we can recognize each other..." Remus said smartly. He was liking the idea of this more and more.
"We could sell troublemaking products to fund ourselves!" Sirius said joyfully, sliding down another banister.
Although Sirius made the unfortunate mistake of knocking into a Slytherin 5th year.
"Watch where you're going you piece of filth!" the boy shouted taking out his wand.
Sirius snapped up and took out his wand menacingly staring at the boy.
"No one messes with a Lestrange..." the boy growled slowly circling Sirius.
Remus and James lept to Sirius's side, wands risen at the ready. Peter was nowhere to be seen.
"We'll settle this out on the grounds... seven o'clock tonight..." he said, walking away into a long dark corrider.
Peter reemmerged from a staircase one floor up waving madly and giving them the thumbs up.
"Bloody coward..." Sirius mumbled, faking a smile and waving back.
Remus though, could only think of the duel and how many limbs he would be attached to him after it...

The day flew by for Remus who was dreading the upcoming duel with more intensity then the full moon. James and Sirius were also extremely anxious. Sirius had started paranoidly muttering while James looked past his shoulder every time he entered a room.
Remus didn't know if it was true or an act to make him feel better though.
The promised Quidditch lesson fell by the wayside as the Marauders nervous tiptoed through the entire day. Remus looked up at the clock in the Gryffindor common room.
It was seven.
Slowly, the Marauders picked up their wands and walked out the portrait hall in a slow almost pallbearer-like walk. From the innocent bystander it looked as if the four were marching to their deaths.
For the whole walk down to the entrance hall, none of them said a word. Peter slowly opened the door and held it open for the other three as they shuffled outside in a half-daze.
"So you decided to show up..." a voice came from behind them.
The Marauders jumped and spun around, coming to face with two boys. One of them was the boy Sirius had knocked into earlier and the other was a tall gangly looking kid with pitch black hair and wore a nasty smirk.
"This is my double, Avery." the kid said, waving a hand to the boy next to him.
"Hello..." the boy said scarily, slowly taking out his wand.
"I see you four can't count because in a duel there is only supposed to be two."
The Marauders said nothing.
"But seeing as I'm going to destroy you anyways I'll let three of you against us two."
Peter sighed in relief and hid behind Remus, James, and Sirius.
The trio nodded at each other and readied their wands.
"Scrynemia!" Avery yelled, sended a large purple beam at Sirius who was promptly thrown back about ten feet.
James though wasn't doing anything. Just standing there dumbly muttering words to himself. Sirius shot a glare at him and James nodded.
BOOM!
A huge explosion and a blinding flash of light filled up the air.
When the light faded Avery and Lestrange were nowhere to be found...

Remus stared dumbfounded at the two boys who were lying on top of each other in a disgruntled heap. James stode toward them with a murderous look on his face.
"No one messes with James Potter!" he said, kicking Malfoy who let out a pitiful moan.
"Thought you could intimidate us with Polyjuice did you?" James said whipping out the map and pointed at it with his wand.
A look of understanding dawned on Sirius's and Remus's face. Snape and Malfoy had used Polyjuice!
"That's illegal I hope you know..." Sirius said, smirking evilly.
Pettigrew had now come out of his hiding spot behind a statue.
"Y-y-y-yeah... That's r-r-r-really illegal..." Peter stuttered, looking at the ground.
Lucius just stared at Peter questioningly.

Pettigrew was now jittering uncontrollably. James walked over to Peter and put his wand on his throat.
"Did you have something to do with this Pettigrew?" James growled menacingly, jabbing at his neck.
"N-n-n-n-o..." Peter whimpered.
Remus didn't know who to side with. James was being a bit harsh on Peter but he did seem kind of suspicious.
The clouds parted to reveal the waxing moon. Remus shuddered. Only a week...
"He did too!" Snape yelled, jumping up to his feet.
"Well?" James said, now grabbing Peter's shirt.
"Yesssssssssssss..." a voice erupted within Peter. Remus jumped at the raspy tone which came from Peter's mouth.
Peter reached into his satchel and revealed a book, black and worn with age. Remus gasped loudly, making everyone look at him oddly.
"That book is cursed..." Remus whispered, remembering the conversation between Tom Riddle and himself.
"Oh no... Not cursed... Just a bit... shall we say... unlucky..." Peterd said, twirling it in between his fingers.
"He's possessed!" James shouted in revelation.
"Possessed?" Remus questioned. It made sense, but how in earth's name did Pettigrew get the voice of the book inside of him.
In all of the commotion, Snape and Malfoy where now nowhere to be found. Remus turned his attention back to the scene in front of him.
"Potter..." Peter hissed, clenching the air madly with his fist, "I have to thank your very kind friend for helping me on my way to you..."
Peter nodded towards Remus who realized that he had thrown the book under Peter's bed.
James stared madly at Remus who was looking at the ground, afraid to look at James's face.
"Remus?" James said helplessly, shaking his head sadly.
Remus opened his mouth to explain but James cut him off.
"I don't want to hear your excuses you filthy rat!" James yelled, which echoed oddly in the night air.
Remus stared dumbly at James, trying desperatly to stop tears from welling up into his eyes. He couldn't even keep a friend for a day. He was worthless. He was a worthless werewolf.

"Is that true?" Sirius said in an almost shocked tone. Remus turned to look at Sirius, but he turned his gaze away immediatly.
"I didn't know..." Remus said weakly, feeling his knees buckle.
He couldn't do anything right at all. Everyone was right about him.
James gave one last glare at Remus and turned to face Peter.
"Now... Would you like to go the easy way? Or the hard way perhaps?" James said. It would have been intimidating if James had not said it in a high pitched voice.
"My time here is done... I was just making sure that the meddling half-breed over there didn't associate with you..." the voice said calmly.
Peter collasped to the ground and the diary he was holding opened and shut firmly.
Sirius and James turned to Remus.
"Meddling half-breed?"
"Didn't want us to associate?"
"What did you do?"
"half-breed?"
The voice all swirled in Remus's head as he sunk lower and lower to the ground. They knew... that he was... that he was... a werewolf...
"That guy didn't know what he was talking about," James said confidently, "There's no way Remus is a half-breed! He's just like us."
Remus sighed inwardly in relief and brought himself up again.
"Now I want to ask him a question..." James said, staring directly into Lupin's eyes.
"Did you purposly stage the fight between us and Snape and Malfoy?"
James's eyes seemed to bore into him like a drill. He had to tell the truth.
"I threw the book under Peter's bed!" Remus yelled, almost giving out a sob.
"That's it?" James asked questioningly.
"What were you doing with it?" Sirius asked.
"It was the book you gave me, remember?" he said, hoping desperatly that they forgave him.
At this both of them laughed. Remus shot both of them a confused glare.
"You're way too much of a book worm!" Sirius said, laughing through his words.
"What about the whole posession thing?" Remus said confused. How could they laugh at had what just happened?
"What possessions thing?"

Remus stared dumbstruck at James who was smiling in a funny manner.
"What do you mean 'What possesion?'!" Remus yelled, regaining his senses.

Remus fainted dead on the spot.

"Wake up Remus..." a soothing voice called.
Remus opened his eyes to a pure white ceiling. Startled, he sat up and looked around wildly, recognizing that he was in the hospital wing.
"We were so worried about you!" a girl with curly red hair exclaimed, worry etched in her voice.
"What?" Remus questioned tiredly flopping onto his back again.
"All of Gryffindor Tower was watching the whole thing between you and Snape and Malfoy!"
"Where's the other three?"
"They came down here earlier to check on ya..."
"What's your name?" Remus knew he was being a little blatant but every part of his body ached.
"Lily Evans!" she said cheerfully, opening the window across from him to explose streaming sunlight.
"Did you see Peter being possessed?"
"Ah! So that's what happened to him! I was wondering what that was about."
"James and Sirius don't remember..." Remus whispered to himself, earning an odd stare from Lily.
"I brought all of your work. You've been out for about two days now!" she said, cheerfully changing the subject.
She brought out a three foot high pile of books and plopped them on his bed, smiling like a maniac.
"This is all the work I did and I think you're as smart as me so is that okay?"
"Sure..." Remus said, staring at Lily curiously.
"I've got to go okay..."
"Okay..."
"Well... erm... bye..."
Lily exited the hospital wing and Remus started to work on his homework, extra credit and all.

Today was Tuesday.
Remus slumped out of his bed and wearily put on his robes almost in autopilot. The Marauders idea had fell through, everyone forgetting about it as the workload increased with each passing day.
James and Sirius still liked the idea of a group, but sadly did not make any motion to include Remus, who had become distant over the past few days. Peter said that he forgot about the posession ordeal which didn't surprise him at all.
Now the only person he talked to was the the girl that had brought him his homework in the hospital wing. Apparently, she was a muggleborn with an older sister who didn't have magic. Lily was nice to talk to especially since he really didn't have anyone else...
He picked up his bag and trudged out of the common room, debated whether or not to give Lily an excuse for his future absence tonight, or just not care because she probably wouldn't notice anyways.
"Remus!"
Lily bounded up to Remus, a huge grin on her face. Remus managed a small smile and sighed, looking out the window at the driazzly sky.
"Are we on for the Library tonight?" Lily asked, concentrating on rummaging through her satchel.
Great.
"I-I-I'm sorry Lily, I got detention from Filch yesterday for tracking mud in the entrance hall." Remus stuttered, hoping that she would change the subject.
"Oh." she said, disappointment evident in her voice.
"Well you'll be out of it tomorrow right?"
"I guess..."
James and Sirius passed them, talking animatedly. Remus sighed again and looked at Lily, who was staring at him concerdly.
"I'll be alright..." Remus said in what he hoped was a reassuring tone.
He walked out of the common room and headed down to the hospital wing where he was supposed to go over the procedure with Madam Pompfrey.

Remus trudged down to the fourth floor and knocked half-heartedly on the stained oak dorrs.
"Oh! You must be Remus!" a voice called from behind him.
Remus turned around to face a witch in about her 30's wearing sky blue robes. She looked quite friendly but had a stern complexion.
"Yes..." Remus said, looking down at his feet.
"Aww.. Don't worry! This is going to be fun!" she said cheerfully, striding down the hall making Remus run after her. In Remus's mind there was no way that the full moon was going to be fun.
When they reached the entrance hall, it was deserted, which Remus was thankful for.
Though the thankfulness didn't last long.
When they opened the doors, the whole grounds were brimming with students relaxing and talking amiably.
Remus tried to shrink into the background but since Madam Pompfrey was such a dominating prescence it was nearly an immpossible task.
She led him in the direction of a medium sized tree which a couple of kids were trying to hit. The tree followed through by whipping the attacker quite nicely in the behind.
"David Gudgeon!" Madam Pompfrey yelled, hurrying towards a boy who was trying next.
The boy lost his focus and the tree hit him directly underneath his eye and knocked him back at least ten feet. Madam Pompfrey gasped and broke out into a run, drawing the attention of practically the whole vicinity.
Remus almost thanked God silently for this distraction as everyone was starting to form a crowd around David. Madam Pompfrey took out a sort of magical beeper and held it up in the air, talking into it loudly.
"I have a student in need of magical and medical help. All staff report to the Whomping Willow!"
Ripples traveled steadily in the air and about five seconds later, teachers were emerging from the castle. When Remus took a closer look, he noticed that Gudgeon's whole face was turning a nasty purple hue. His legs were bloody and his tibia was sticking out of his skin, promptly making several kids, girls and boys, faint on the spot.
All of the students were now calling their friends, who hurried over curiously. Remus was pushed aside by James and Sirius who were smirking almost evilly.
"Serves him right!" Sirius said, a crazy smile on his face.
James nodded and looked at Remus who was staring at them sadly.
"What's the matter Remus?" James said in an almost mocking tone. Remus looked away to see Pettigrew whose wand was pointed at James and Sirius. He was muttering under his breath and slowly moving his arm around. Then Remus saw a flash of black. The Diary!
Remus ran towards Peter and tackled him, making his wand fly out of his hand and onto the ground next to Davey Gudgeon.
A loud laugh emitted from Peter and the crowd's attention turned towards the scene.
"You're very smart Lupin... too bad you're a werewolf!" he whispered loudly in his ear. Remus looked around desperately but there were no gasps of surprise so they must not have heard.
Remus turned back to Peter who waved goodbye and disappeared with a loud "CRACK!". At this the whole crowd gasped and Davey Gudgeon was left alone as crowds rushed over.
Sirius and James were very confused and came up to Remus.
"Where are we?" Sirius asked.

Remus sighed with relief that James and Sirius were alright. Hoards of students were now clustering around the spot where Pettigrew had disappeared.
"He disapparated!" A voice cried out in the cluster.
"He can't!" Lily Evans had made here way to the front of the crowd, dramatically pointing at the innocent patch of grass.
Remus knew he couldn't either. The founders had placed charms on Hogwarts during wizarding wars so that prisoners couldn't escape by apparation. But no one had found the countercharm so the spell stayed.
"Why?" Davey Gudgeon asked, sitting dazedly up, a confused look on his face.
"Well you can't apparate into or out of Hogwarts. And besides, he's way too young!" Lily said pointedly. She kneeled down by the spot where Peter disappeard and picked up a petal of a flower that was nestled in the grass.
"No, it couldn't be," she whispered.
"He's too young for the Imperius Curse too!" Remus shouted, gathering the stares of the whole group. The students began to squirm uncomfortably.
"Imperius Curse!"
"That's illegal!"
"Unforgivable..."
"He's a wimp of a kid! How could he perform an unforgivable?"
"I don't know, but he did and he's going to pay!" Remus yelled, he didn't know where this bravery came from, and frankly it scared him.
"I never liked that kid! He looks like a rat..." some Ravenclaws whispered.
Remus breathed. "If anyone finds him, I'll be indebted to them for the rest of my life."
He stepped into the crowd, and slipped away towards castle.

Remus felt like his head was going to explode before Madam Pomfrey ushered him into the building, chattering away about the havoc that had been caused. A few hours had passed and it was now early evening. Madam Pomfrey forced one restorative potion after another down his unwilling throat.
"I just can't believe it! Two students under the Imperius curse performed by a first year! Good thing for him that you vouch he was posessed, because Azkaban would've been a sure sight for him otherwise. Just imagine the headlines in the morning if Dumbledore would let this get out. Well the govenors are going to request an investiag..."
He droned her out with his mind, many images flashing in his head. Just how did he escape? One minute there, the next gone, and not even a "pop" or "bang" or cloud of purple smoke.
"...and you won't believe what I heard!" Madam Pompfrey said, waving her hands exasperatingly.
"What?" Remus said in a voice very much unlike his own.
"I don't know if I should tell you this but Black and Potter were caught with crushed dragon's fang..."
Remus turned to Madam Pompfrey.
"They were smuggling in wizard drugs?" he exclaimed, feeling a huge weight being added to his shoulders. That could explain some of their weird behavoir. But where could they get that? It was only harvested in Bulgaria...
"Yes, but lucky for them Veritserum proved that they didn't do it out of their own will!" Madam Pompfrey said, now walking in a different direction from the hospital wing.
"That's good I guess..."
"I just wonder what will happen when they give it to Pettigrew?"
"So do I..."
Madam Pompfrey led him to the Fat Lady's portrait and smiled tiredly.
"Now that tree that hit Gudgeon is the entrance to where you'll be staying tonight. Just tap the huge knot and the tree will freeze. Remember by six o'clock you should be in the passageway." and with that she walked down the hallway and turned left, no longer in his sight.
"Great..." Remus muttered after saying the password. "I'm going to have to show that murederous tree who's boss..."

The hours flew by so quickly that before Remus knew it, it was 6 o'clock and he was trudging out of the portrait hole. Most of the students were in the Great Hall eating dinner with the exception of Peter, who no one had sighted since the disappearance that afternoon.
His stomach seemed to twist and writhe inside his body as Remus reached the entrance hall. Through a crack in the door, he could see James and Sirius laughing with Dameon and Lily rolling her eyes and smiling.
Sadly, he opened the doors to the grounds and walked slowly in the direction of the Whomping Willow. The grounds were quiet and dark, the bright lights from the castle were now distant and calming. Grabbing a large stick, he tapped on the knot on the Whomping Willow and crawled into the hole under it.
Walking down the long passageway, tears started to well up in his eyes. When he finally reached the door, his eyes were red and puffy but he forced himself not to cry.
He had to hold in the pain.
A shudder passed through his body as he opened the door. A bedroom with a solitary table and chair faced him. The walls were painted an ugly gray yet color was not devoid in the room as splashes of red paint had found their way onto the background of gray.
Suddenly, his hand burst with pain as fear swept through his eyes. He glanced down to see his hand flickering and settled on the shape of a scraggly paw. A force pushed through his mind.
"Just give in..." a seductive voice whispered.
"It'll be easier that way... You have no friends... You are what you are... a worthless werewolf..."
"I am not worthless!" Remus shouted in his mind. "Lily is still my friend!"
"We'll see about that..."
Remus fought with all of his might against the voice. His feet were now changing though and his clothes were now bursting at the seams.
"No! I will not listen to you! You have been nothing but trouble and you just want to bring me down!"
But Remus was drowned out by the maniacal laughter of the other voice as he started twitching.
He was worthless...
No I'm not!
Yes you are and you know it!
Shut up! Just shut up!
Remus sunk to the floor and cried out loudly. Though when he did a long howl emitted from his throat and he sunk into blissful unconsciousness.

A fresh sensation soared through Remus's body as he opened his eyes. A cool crisp breeze played with his hair and danced around his face.
Today was the day after.
At least that's how Remus referred to it. The wonderful sensation he felt after the prescence in his body was gone and not to return for another month.
Sitting up he felt a sharp jolt go up his knee. A huge bloody gash ran down his leg and was still bleeding freely.
"Ferula" he whispered and bandages wrapped themselves around his leg tightly. Pulling his robe tightly around him, he hobbled towards the passage, thinking sadly about James and Sirius.
Hoisting himself out of the Whomping Willow, he made his way slowly back to the castle.
"Oy! Remus!" a rough voice yelled.
Hagrid the groundskeeper-in-training was walking/striding towards him. Remus couldn't tell which.
"'ow was las' night?" he asked in a low whisper as he drew nearer.
"Ummm... ok I guess..." Remus said, looking at his feet.
"Ya know I don' 'old this against ya Remus. Not like those o'ther people..." Hagrid said, a compassionate look on his face.
Remus's heart sunk a few inches lower as he continued to stare at his feet. He really didn't want to talk about this now.
"I have to go Hagrid..."
"All right then, ya 'ave yorself a good time.."
Remus started walking very quickly away from Hagrid though his leg couldn't quite keep up. All of a sudden his leg collasped and the bandages unraveled, leaving his bloody leg exposed.
"Remus Lupin what happened to you!" Lily yelled, running towards him from the castle.
Desperately trying to hide his leg, he turned on his stomach and felt more pain shoot up his leg.
"Oh my gosh!"
She ran over to him and turned him onto his back, gasping at his wound.
"What happened?" she said in a panicked voice, taking out her wand.
"N-Nothing!"
"That is a lie and you know it!" she said, a fire in her eyes. She looked at his face and put her hand over her mouth.
"R-Remus..." she handed him a mirror and he gazed in it shocked.
A long claw mark was scrawled across his face and blood was slowly dripping from his temple.
"I didn't think Peter was telling the truth!"
"You're a..werewolf..."

Remus stared in shock at Lily, his mouth hanging wide open like a gaping fish. Lily gave him a questioning look and threw herself on him, giving a huge embrace.
"I don't care if you're a werewolf!" she sobbed loudly, tears now flowing freely down her cheeks. She stood up and held out her hand to him, smiling though her face tearstained.
"What do you say we have a little talk with Peter..." she said smiling evilly.
"They found him?!" Remus yelled standing up but immediatly collasped on his injured leg.
"Oh yeah...he was being posessed all right but that still doesn't excuse him saying bad things about you!" she said, now taking out her wand.
"Ferula!" she said, strengthing his bandages. His leg was now tightly bound almost to the point of cutting off his circulation.
"Come on!" she said, picking him up and throwing his arm around her shoulder.
The two hobbled weakly back to the castle to see what Peter had to say...
"Full moon..." Lily whispered and the portrait door opened. They crept into the common room, looking for Peter.
"He's probably in the boy's dorm..." Remus whispered, pointing to the staircase.
Lily walked up to the door leaving Remus in a chair. Slowly, she opened it, it's unoiled hinges creaking awfully.
"Oh my God!" she yelled and ran to the chair next to Remus, breathing heavily.
James and Sirius came out of the room with towels around their waists.
"Don't you guys have any decency!" she yelled turning around to face them.
James smiled trying desperatly hard to control his laughter.
"And what may I ask were you doing in our dorm room?" he said, putting on a phony polite voice.
"Erm... Nothing..." she mumbled, turning towards the fireplace stubbornly.
Sirius waved his hands exasperatingly at Lily and turned back to the common room. "I swear, a guy can't take a shower in this place..."
Lily slapped a hand on her face and turned around to James. "Just next time be more careful..."
Remus was smiling inwardly. He had a friend. A good friend. And maybe he'd be friends with James and Sirius too eventually. Just not Peter...
Just not Peter.

Remus trudged upstairs and plopped down on his four-poster, staring at the soft velvet drapings. He didn't have to go to class today, special treat from Dumbledore...but he kind of wanted to.
BAM!
The door slammed open to reveal a shaking Peter Pettigrew. Remus felt anger well up into his body, pouring over him like a fiery inferno.
He hated that person with all of his heart.
"Yes?" Remus said coldly, staring at Pettigrew with an unfaltering gaze.
"Erm...N-N-nothing..." he said, grabbing his bookbag and running out the door, panic stricken.
"Kindly shut the door next time!" Remus yelled after him but it was of no use.
He sighed and took out his Charms textbook, flipping to an extra credit assignment on the theory of memory charms. If only you could use memory charms on yourself. Wouldn't that be great? He could forget all about being bitten, all about Peter and that stupid diary. But he'd still be a werewolf, he would hate Peter again, and that diary, that dreaded diary would somehow find its way on his nightstand.
He wondered who Tom Riddle actually was. How could a diary like that have such personality? Even portraits couldn't have than a one dimensional thought process. Just phrases that the person used and a basic feeling and understanding. The diary actually talked and responded like a living, breathing, person. If he ever found it again, he would demand it tell the truth about how it knew he was a werewolf.
Maybe you could pour veritserum on it...
He drifted off to sleep, and didn't wake till morn.
angel spirit February 8th, 2005, 9:51 pm I'm starting to write the story again! So here goes!

Remus gazed upon the frozen grounds and sighed audibly. He still couldn't believe that he actually told Lily. Even though her reaction was unpleasant, he ate at him. Even more than Peter.
Her red hair bobbed up and down as she talked animatedly with her friends outside. Every single time he wondered if she was talked about him. About his..."condition".
"Remus?"
"Oh...Hello James."
"Do you want to play some quidditch with us?"
Remus knew that James knew the answer already. But he guessed that James still felt guilty. Maybe...
"I'll pass...Maybe some other time?"
"Sure!"
Remus watched him almost skip out of the room. He wished desperately he could be that happy. That he could worry about Quidditch instead of the fact he was a monster. But he shouldn't whine...it could be worse.
Or could it?
He often lay awake at night, wondering if his parents had done anything to make God disfavor him. But that was all silliness.
Silliness...

Remus awoke the next day to a whisper.
A familiar whisper.
He jumped up in his bed and spun around wildly, his hair flopping in the cold breeze of the open window. Then he saw it.
The Diary.
Laying ever so peacefully on his desk was the inkstained, miniscule black book that was the source of his hatred towards a little devil named Peter Pettigrew. All thoughts of asking it questions disapperared. Clutching the book, he looked at its innocent cover. Remus grabbed a crimson colored quill and scrawled on the cover in large scraggly letters.
"GOODBYE!"
Flipping the pages open, he hesitated. Really, was this necessary? Riddle might not even be in here anymore... Papyrus colored pages stared back at him innocently, almost as if saying "No one's home!"
But what if he was?
He shot up from his bed and stalked down the staircase, knocking over several second years who were gossiping about some frivolous pursuit. He had to burn it! If anyone else got ahold of it...
But quietly joking in the corner was Peter with some second year girl. No...he couldn't do it now. Riddle would control Peter to jump in the stupid fire or something. "God!" his mind screamed at him, burning his thoughts. Peter looked up at him timidly from the other side of the room. Hand moving slightly in an awkward wave, Remus tried to make a smile twitch out of the corner of his mouth.
Peter was not to blame... Remus thought, his finger twitching nervously. It was Riddle really. Peter isn't bad I guess...
Then Peter changed.
Falling away, the rest of the room was no longer important. Just Peter's menacing eyes, just his sneer, just his existance. Remus shrunk away and looked at the window, which shown so brightly it burned his eyes.
Jump...
That was Riddle's voice!
No...I'm Peter
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a bright red flash sprint by him.
Lily!
He flew around so quickly that the Diary flew out of his hands and out the window that shown so brightly. No! Anybody could jump out there and get it! He dashed to the window and looked down, dead scared of what he might see.
It was himself. No curse. Somehow he could tell that his lycanthropy was gone! He had to go there! He had to!
"REMUS!!!" Lily screamed, pulling him back madly. The window grew brighter and brighter until he couldn't see himself anymore. The vision exploded into little tiny shards that pierced his skin.
One of the shards implanted itself in his right hand, digging in at least an inch. Lily bawled and screamed, trying desperately to pull him back.
The last thing he saw were Lily's eyes.
Her dark emerald eyes.

White.
Pure White.
Remus shot up, looking around the empty hospital wing. A flurry of red hair buried into his face.
"Remus!" Lily exclaimed, pulling herself back. Remus grimaced as he rubbed his temple, then drew his hand away, examining for blood. No cut. That was good.
"What happened?" he whispered, watching Madam Pomfrey berate a second year in the hallway.
"You just started to tense up, and then you ran to the window, and then you were like going to jump out!" she stumbled nervously. "That's when I pulled you back...and you hit your head on the floor..." she said, gesturing to his temples half-heartedly.
He nodded. So he had been hallucinating during the entire ordeal. Peter wasn't out to get him, Riddle was in the book after all, and he had just committed near suicide.
"Do you have any idea why you did that?" she trembled, grasping his hand.
"No, I think it was something I dreamt last night..." he lied smoothly, feeling just a bit guilty. She couldn't know that Riddle had done this to him though. A dark shadow stirred in his mind, slipping through the crevices of his conciousness.
"Mr. Lupin," Madam Pompfrey called out from the other side of the room cheerily. "You're free to go!"
Remus lifted himself of his bed and smiled at Lily encourgingly.
"Remus!" two cheery voices shouted. James and Sirius came bounding into the hospital wing, followed by Peter, panting heavily to keep up. Remus put on his best "happy smile".
"James! I was thinking about finally taking you up on that Quidditch game you've been talking about..."

James's face twisted into a humongous grin and he clapped his hand on Remus's back. Smiling faintly, Remus chanced a glance at Lily only to find the spot where she was standing empty. Where'd she go?
"Remus my man! You finally came around! Now let me explain to you the fine art of quidditch!" James said pompously, throwing his arms around Remus and Sirius. "Now you have the quaffle, bludgers, and the snitch and then there are the positions like keeper and seeker and all of that nonsense. We'll get to that later. I'm the chaser and I throw the quaffle around or get hit by bludgers...well I try not to--"
Small swirly lines dotted Remus's vision. He acquired a sort of dazed look and subconcioiusly blocked James's enthusiastic monologue. Where did Lily go? Maybe she went because James was there...but I thought those two had made up...
"And that's the jolly sport of Quidditch!" James exclaimed, his face florid and sweaty.
WHACK!
A small black missle exploded into James's stomach. Remus gasped and fell to his knees, checking for a pulse. Yet when he looked at James's features there was a huge smile stuck oddly onto his face. What?
"Good Job Lovegood!" he wheezed. A lanky tall boy in blue and bronze robes landed next to Sirius who was howling with laughter.
"My pleasure Potter," he smirked, tossing the quaffle lightly in the air and snatching it up again.
"This is Remus..." James said with a weak smile. Then he clutched his heart and turned to Lovegood.
"Teach him well..."
"I will," Lovegood said, kneeling over James with his broomstick across his shoulder.
James's head lulled slightly, touching the emerald green grass. Sirius stalked over and ripped off James's shoe. Remus was now utterly confused at this point and took up looking at James's scarf which had an interesting green mold growing on the tips.
"Oh Jamsie!" Sirius taunted. Remus now looked across the lake at some second-year Hufflepuffs who were playing some game that involved throwing cards at the ground which exploded this gooey material into the opposite person.
"So Remus is it?" a deep voice spoke from behind. It was Lovegood.
"You want to really learn quidditch, or is this something those buffoons put you up to?"
"They really aren't buffoons..."
Lovegood sighed and directed his gaze towards the duo who were building what looked like "shoe forts" made from the shoes of Hogwart's students. A group of Slytherins scowled at their socks after Sirius put binding charms on them and stole their shoes.
"Come on Remus!" Sirius yelled, ducking as a loafer came hurling towards him.
Remus laughed nervously and turned to Lovegood.
"I guess you're right...So what should I call you?" Remus asked, not wanting to resort to the Slytherinesque way of calling everyone by their surnames.
"I guess you can call me Romulus..."

Remus's jaw dropped. "You're kidding me," he said carefully. He had read the myth of his namesake a long time ago. In Rome, there lived two brothers, Romulus and Remus who were raised by a she-wolf. Romulus ended up killing Remus and becoming emperor of Rome.
"Of course I am, now tell me what you know about Quidditch."
Remus blushed and scratched his neck. "Erm...There's Bladgers and Chazzers?" he said softly.
Lovegood let out a deep long laugh. "That's a start at least. I came to Hogwarts thinking Quidditch was like muggle soccer!"
Remus smiled weakly and looked at the pitch, which buzzed with tens of broomsticks. Muggle soccer he could handle, death-defying daredeviling was beyond him.
"Alright Remus, take my broom." he said, sticking it out for Remus to grab.
Remus took it and hesitantly put one leg on each side. Maybe this wasn't too hard. Remus smiled and turned towards James's and Sirius's shoe forts. James looked over and yelled at Sirius, "Hey look! Remus is going to fly!"
The Slytherins looked up and smirked at Remus instead. "Come on firstie! Show us your Gryffindor idiocy!"
Remus blushed again and shifted his weight onto the pole. Lovegood nodded.
"I think you're ready!" he exclaimed uncharacteristically. And with that gave a push to Remus's broom, and Remus went skyrocketing right into Sirius's shoe fort.
"AGGHGHGHGHGHHG!!!" Sirius yelled, and ducked, holding his head to the ground. James fell onto to his own fort, making it topple, laughing his head off.
Remus, in a desperate attempt to get off, jumped away from the broom and landed right on top of Sirius.
"OOMPH! Remus! God! AHHH my arm!' Sirius screamed, pushing Remus off of him.
James got up and ran over to the pile and threw himself down on the two.
"James!" Sirius and Remus shouted, but then all three erupted in laughter.
"Hahaha...Best friends you guys?" James said brightly.
Remus's heart soared.
"That sounds great James. That sounds great..."

A/N: I am going to be editing a major part of the story for plot holes and other mistakes I might've glazed over. Next update will be July 1st.
......................................
The Abduction
Remus collasped into the plushy armchair with an audible sigh. Two essays due tommorrow, one on "scanning charms" and another on transfiguring plants into various household appliances. He really didn't want to start right now as he was experiencing what Madam Pomfrey liked to call "moon PMS" which made him extremely irrational and tired.
The portriat hole opened and Sirius stumbled, followed a litte later by James. They were standing oddly apart, about five feet and James mirrored Sirius's movements exactly. Wait, was one of James's fingers missing? Remus shook his head and looked again. Nope, must've been the light.
"Remus, can we study upstairs?" James asked, a huge smile on his face. "I've got something for those scanning charms essay."
Remus nodded, stood up, and trudged behind James up to the dormitory. When all three were in, James took out his wand and cast a locking charm on the door.
"Remus! You can't believe what we just did!" James said gleefully.
He pulled at some air above the ground which materialized into a cloak. Wait, that was an invisibility cloak! Remus looked down and gasped.
"James! Are you insane?" Remus cried.
"Why yes Remus, that's why I stole this bottle of veritaserum too." he said, producing a small vial of the clear liquid.
Sirius snickered. "Now we're going to be able to embarress Snivellus like no other!" attempting to sound crafty, he came off more whiny.
"You know how much trouble this will get us in to?" Remus said, massaging his temples.
For lying below him, with a bloody gash on his forehead, was Severus Snape.
-----------------------------------------------
James laughed and crouched down next to Snape. "Okay, before I tell you the plan Remus, you have to swear never to tell anyone ever ever ever." he warned.
Remus opened his mouth then closed it. If he said no, he'd have to leave and who knows what they would do to Snape. If he said yes, he'd be just as guilty as them and maybe get expelled. He didn't quite remember, but he thought veritaserum was illegal.
Why couldn't they be a study group?
"All right James."
James nodded and drew out a piece of paper with some questions written on it. Remus began to read them silently.
What is your name?
How much do you hate James Potter?
Do you "like" any girl or boy in the school?
Do you practice dark magic?
What is the most embarressing thing that's ever happened to you?
Are you in the league with you-know-who?
What's the password to the Slytherin common room?
and the list continued on and on over to the back of the page.
James let out a giggle and pointed at the bottle. "Everyone in the school will know Snivellus's darkest secrets by the end of breakfast!"
Remus panicked.
"How are you expecting to get away with this?" he yelled, breathing heavily. "You can't possibly believe that no one would catch you?"
James raised an eyebrow at Remus. "You said you wouldn't tell..."
Remus shut his mouth and decided not to talk until James and Sirius were done with Snape.
James pried open Snape's mouth and tipped a bit of the contents in. Then he whispered, "Enervate!"
Snape woke up and looked around blearily. Then he looked at James and his mouth immediatly contorted into a sneer. "Potter, I underestimated you. You have the ability to knock out a poor first year and drag him all the way up to the Gryffindor Common Room without being seen. Amazing..." he drawled.
James smiled and asked, "What is your name?"
