CrazyRat November 17th, 2006, 5:35 pm The Four Feathers (original 30's version); a British war movie set in Africa in around the same time period as Lawrence of Arabia. It's about a man who is afraid of going to war, despite his father's encouragement, and is rejected by his friends because of it. They each send him a white feather, a symbol of cowardice, and he takes another from his fiancé to show that he thinks she has the same opinion of him. He then goes to Africa to prove them wrong. I won't spoil the rest of the movie, but it's very interesting and exiting.
i read that, it was pretty good.
stetson November 20th, 2006, 2:37 am The Scarlet Pimpernel, especially the 1934 version (see sig)
I've only met one other person who has seen it and he loved it too
The Count of Monte Cristo, House of D and Return to Me are both really good and (almost) no one has ever heard of them. I was reading The Count of Monte Cristo and the pages were gold-edged and a ton of people asked if I was reading the Bible. It was so weird. Then when I told them that it was The Count of Monte Cristo, they were like "Huh?" It was moderately frustrating.
mmka December 18th, 2006, 6:58 pm How about O Brother Where Art Thou... not many people have heard of it...

hpalltheway December 23rd, 2006, 3:14 pm "What's eating Gilbert Grape" I thought people had heard of it, but everyone I talk to say "What's that about?". So that would be mines. Also, "Dead Man Walking"...don't know if you know that one, but it's a good film.
Yoana December 23rd, 2006, 10:11 pm The Island
Kim Ki Duk's? He's fairly popular here in Bulgaria.
I can give you several hundred Bulgarian films that you have never heard of and you never will. Does that count?

Sev December 24th, 2006, 10:18 am Ravenous starring Guy Pearce.
That guy reminds me so much of Jade from AFI...
j_rod December 27th, 2006, 12:39 pm I've got one,it's not that i really love it,but i liked it
the icelandic film: Noi Albinoi (2003)
Ever since i've seen that movie,i've wanted to visit iceland, which is kind of ironic because all the hero wants to do is leave the country lol.
So,has someone else heard of that?
Not exactly a movie but my favorite anime is Gunslinger Girl (i know it's not completely unknown,LewsTherin has one of the characters in his avatar) but really i was amazed that out of my friends (who know 100 times more animes than i knew) none knew about this anime.
IBelieveInSnape December 27th, 2006, 9:25 pm i saw a movie a couple of days ago that a lot of people i know have never heard of.... it's called "Welcome to the Dollhouse"... its sooooo funny!!! WEINER DOG!!!!!! the main girl is the best friend of the main character in "Princess Diaries", and another one of the character is "Warren" from "Empire Records" (my fave movie, i might add)
*\o/* xxx ~*Snuffy, the Contest Master*~ :gryff:
I love that movie. =)
I watched this one movie called Dare mo shiranai aka Nobody Knows. It's a really good Japanese movie about 4 abandoned children. If you can find it anywhere, watch it!
PS: What's Eating Gilbert Grape and Hocus Pocus=2 of my favorite movies ever. =_
boydy75 December 28th, 2006, 8:58 pm "What's eating Gilbert Grape" I thought people had heard of it, but everyone I talk to say "What's that about?". So that would be mines. Also, "Dead Man Walking"...don't know if you know that one, but it's a good film.
whats eating gilbert grape is brilliant. Leonardo Di Caprio really suprised me because his performance was one of the best film performances I have seen ever. and he was a lot younger at the time. Just a brilliant film
Eluradanna December 28th, 2006, 9:48 pm Has anyone ever seen The Clan of the Cave Bear? Its a really good movie....a really good book too.

I forgot to say this ...but I agree with you....Leo should have won an academy award for his performance in this movie!
hpalltheway December 29th, 2006, 1:15 am Leo should definitly have won an award for that. His acting is soo convincing in that film. I think it's all the performances of the actors put together (as someone said on another thread) that makes it such a great and enjoyable film.

SnapeAndSirius December 30th, 2006, 10:08 pm I've heard of Stairway to Heaven & Flowers in the attic, but haven't seen them.

Roonil_Wazlib_ December 31st, 2006, 12:50 am The Price of Milk. It's this insane movie from like New Zealand or something. I thought I'd imagined it.
potterposse January 2nd, 2007, 3:24 am Adventures in Babysitting, its from the 80's, I just love it! But, no one else I know has seen it!
Lexxicon January 2nd, 2007, 3:56 am I love that movie! I heard they wanted to remake it at one point, but I don't think it would ever work.
mcgillyweed January 2nd, 2007, 4:22 am Adventures in Babysitting, its from the 80's, I just love it! But, no one else I know has seen it!
I like that move too. Here are some other 80's movies I like but are probably not too well know (mostly comedies)...
Better Off Dead... John Cusack ...a must see
Blind Date...Bruce Willis
Brewster's Millions...Richard Pryor, John Candy
Can't Buy Me Love...has McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy in it
The Burb's...Tom Hanks
The MOney Pit...Tom Hanks
Clue...A lot of good actors in it...kind of cheesy
Dreamscape...Dennis Quade...old special effects but neat idea
Once Bitten...Jim Carey
Mr. Mom...Michail Keaton
Pretty In Pink... Molly Ringwald, Jon Cryer ...a must see 80's flim
Sixteen Candles...Molly Ringwald
Jumpin' Jack Flash...Whoopi Goldberg...very funny
Fast Times At Ridgemont High...everybodies in it
Outrageous Fortune...Bette Midler, George Carlin
Real Genius ...Val Kilmer
Stake Out...Richard Dreyfuss, Emilio Estevez
Summer School...Mark Harmon (the guy from NCIS)
Wierd Science...a good teen film
A couple of non-comedies:
Field of Dreams...Kevin Costner
Name of the Rose...Sean Connery, Christian Slater...a whodunit
Black Widow...a good suspense thriller
That's a lot of films I like...just from the 80's...that's my teenage years though so I'm pretty nostalgic (sp?) about them.
lelabelle525 January 27th, 2007, 5:55 pm I love Clue and Can't Buy Me Love Mcgillyweed!
Most of my favorite movies are older movies from the 30s. Any Greta Garbo movie I adore (my favs being The Mysterious Lady, Camille, Mata Hari, and Ninotchka) and Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies...I own all ten of them but I loooove Top Hat, The Gay Divorcee, and Follow the Fleet

Ha ha I LOVE this movie!! It cracks me up. My husband never wants to watch it but I always do. Love it.
I also LOVE Teen Witch. It cracks me up. It is one of those cheesy 80's flicks. Awesome stuff. Along those same lines, The Worst Witch (the movie not the series)
North with Elijah Wood is another one. People have heard of it but don't ever remember it. Love it.
Wizard_Pupil January 29th, 2007, 7:30 pm Certainly no one here in this forums has heard about "Miranda", jajahjaaaa, ja,ja.
Becuase it´s a Venezuelan movie.
It´s good no one knows everything about your country.
And you will not find it. The only S. American movies you can see out there are those horrible and vulgar movies XDDD about poverty, drugs, politics etc LOLLL
This one is decent and good, because it´s based on a national Hero of our great independence battles, at least I liked it.

Dark comedy about an alcoholic clown with Bobcat Golthwait (the only role IMO he's good in), Adam Sandler, and a cameo appearance by Robin Williams.
hoppitydee February 9th, 2007, 5:31 am "Picnic at Hanging Rock" it's a movie based on a book. It's about schoolgirls who go on an excursion to Hanging Rock [in australia] and they disappear...no trace of them was found....it's really eerie, but I love it.
Eliya February 9th, 2007, 11:53 am I like many quite unknown movies: Bandits (german movie), My life without me, The Legend Of 1900, Knocking On The Heaven's Door etc. And they all are excellent! Not the stupid holiwood stuff!
vitacus February 9th, 2007, 6:57 pm Leonard Part 6 - stupid Bill Cosby comedy I love
jarofdirt6391 February 10th, 2007, 10:10 pm I don't know if anyone's said this one, but Hello Down There is an awesome movie. It was the first movie that Richard Dreyfuss was ever in, and it's awesome! "Can I kelp you?" teehee

Sky_Pirate March 7th, 2007, 9:41 pm Whenever I talk about this film, no one else has seen it xDD
It's called Christine and it's about a car that has a mind of it's own and goes around killing people that are mean to it's owner. It's supposed to be a horror film but it's SO funny xDDD
Vampire_Girl March 7th, 2007, 10:57 pm I don't know if anyone else knows about this, but there was this movie I remember watching when I was little with my mom. It took place in WWII and this family takes in a girl after her parents have been killed, and because she watched them die, she became mentally traumatized and spoke to the family's son through one of her dolls....I'm pretty sure her name was Nancy. Anyways, no one knows what I'm talking about when I describe it to them, but it was really good and I can't remember the name.
I also like Possible Worlds and of course, Labyrinth (although I don't know why people mention it in this thread...where I am, everyone's either seen it or heard of it....)
gradstudent08 April 5th, 2007, 12:31 am I love the movie "Shallow Grave" with Ewan McGregor. It's a scottish film that came out in the 90's and is by the same guy who did "Trainspotting" and "28 Days Later". These friends take on a new flatmate who ends up dead a couple of days later and the only thing he leaves is a suitcase full of money. Then they have to decide what to do (keep the money or turn it in). It starts out kinda light, but gets really dark and wierd by the end. I saw it really late one night and ran out and bought it on tape (I know, that was a while ago). All of my friends really enjoyed it too. I need to get it on dvd.
Lillbet April 5th, 2007, 1:14 am Luc Besson ("The Professional", "The Fifth Element") directed a lil' movie called "The Dancer" that I saw years ago while living in Japan. It was about a deaf woman who lived with her brother in NYC in the cafeteria of an abandoned elementary school and danced at a club. She met a scientist who devoted himself to finding a way to help her hear the music she dances to. Nice love story, visually stunning and fun to boot.
You can't get it on video or DVD anywhere but Germany now :sigh:

Good movie- it's a bit like "Heathers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097493/)" in fact. (Now there's another good one, now that I think about it.)
I'm sure everyone's heard of "Better Off Dead (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088794/)" by now, but if you haven't and you like John Cusack you should check it out.
redhead_warrior April 6th, 2007, 4:02 am what about "the Goonies" by steven spielburg and chris coloumbus (yeah the guy who directed the HP movies!) it is my all time favorite!

That was on Channel 4 last night. I never really liked it though.
Hardly anyone I know has heard of 'The Last Castle' (it is much better than the Shawshank Redemption) but the only people who have heard of it only know because I told them.
paffy April 6th, 2007, 9:08 pm Everyone LOVES The Great Escape - I find myself randomly whistling the song whenever i'm digging!

kala_way April 7th, 2007, 8:09 am I saw this Australian film not long ago called "Strictly Ballroom", it was pretty good :)
Also, there was a German movie from the 50's about a man helping Jews during the war, really stark but amazing, I don't remember the name of it.
And one of my faves is '7 Brides for 7 Brothers' it's so gloriously un-politically correct!
loris April 7th, 2007, 1:51 pm mmm... that movie with sandra bullock and (i'm not sure) marcia cross (aka Bree in DH: not THAT DH, desperate housewives)... they were two witches AND there was also Goran Visnijc (--->ER)... i liked it but i can't remember title or plot... can someone help me???
Lexxicon April 7th, 2007, 7:35 pm I think you're thinking Practical Magic, though that wasn't Marcia Cross, it was Nicole Kidman opposite Sandra.
And I agree with the person (sorry, post is on the previous page) who said Strictly Ballroom. Baz Luhrmann is fantastic! I also have to add (because I was just going through my DVDs) La Vita è Bella (Life is Beautiful). I don't know that it qualifies as a movie no one's heard of, since it won Academy Awards, but it's one of my favorites.

was it nicole kidman??? i was sure it wasn't HER, but the beloved Marcia... i'm really sorry... quite EVERYBODY here in Italy thinks that "La vita è bella" is the best movie ever... I don't think so, however, but it's still a really good movie...
MmeBergerac April 8th, 2007, 7:49 pm In the Bleak Midwinter, one of Kenneth Brannagh's love statements for Shakespeare. It's about a queer theatre group that is going to play Hamlet in an abandoned church for Christmas. Funny and delicious.
Secondo Ponzio Pilato, an Italian movie about Christ's Passion... since the view of the Romans. It's very serious in the deep, but meanwhile you can laugh a lot.
El Perro del Hortelano (The Dog in the Manger). I'm sure you won't know this unless you're Spanish; and even so... It's the adaptation of a play by Lope the Vega, Spanish writer from the XVIIth century. It's a comedy about love, jelousy, social class... And it's in verse! I love it, I think I've seen it about 20 times; I watch it again whenever I'm depressed.

vitacus April 11th, 2007, 7:04 pm They Might Be Giants
I just saw it yesterday on tv, and I missed the first part of it, but I love it. George C Scott plays a man who starts to believe he is Sherlock Holmes and gets smarter with this insanity. as near as I could figure, a couple people out to do him harm arrange for a female doctor named "Watson" to see him to drive him over the edge. She follows him around while he hunts for Moriarty. It has a sort of surreal ending like other 70's movies, I was reminded of Being There.

The 10th Kingdom. Its kinda like a movie/episode thing, 5 eps, each around an hour and a half, its a fantasy one, with subtle fairytale references like characters such as Snow White, but its a very awesome movie/episode thing. Live action too ^^

CakeorDeath August 4th, 2007, 1:06 am Has anyone seen "My life as a dog"? It is a swedish film.
I'm sorry if it has been mentioned before but i couldn't be bother to look through 34 pages.
Brenzies August 14th, 2007, 2:22 am 10th Kingdom!!! Agreed, it's long, but surprisingly good. I actually got it for Christmas, haha.
I have a lot... I grew up on obscure movies.
"Waking Ned Devine" - About someone in a small Irish community winning the lottery. Comedy, for the most part.
"Cookie's Fortune" - Random, random, but I *think* it was directed by Robert Altman and he's done a lot of good stuff. And it's got Glenn Close in it and she's amazing.
"The Burbs" - I am a huge Tom Hanks fan and this is one of his dumber movies, and it's very strange, but I just love every bit of it.
"Arsenic and Old Lace" - Classic and sooo quirky and funny.
Anything with Abbott and Costello in it...
"Outbreak" - I'm not sure how well known it is, but I dont know a lot of people who know it. It's got Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman, Donald Sutherland, Kevin Spacey, Cuba Gooding Jr. .. pretty much an all-star cast. Anyway, I love it but that may just be because I'm obsessed with strange diseases.
"Flight of the Navigator" - I ADORE this movie... it's a family movie about a boy who ... well I won't spoil it for you.
Umm what else... The Borrowers, Matilda, Contact, the original Pink Panther movies.. The Man with the One Red Shoe, uhhh The Party (Peter Sellers), THE GOONIES!!!!, and that's all my brain will come up with right now
Jedi_Girl August 14th, 2007, 4:28 am They call me Trinity.

lushesx3 August 14th, 2007, 11:30 pm Waterloo Bridge & St. martin's Lane & Fire Over England are some of my favorites but only very few people know of them.
mac_attack August 14th, 2007, 11:59 pm Heart & Souls--It's about these 4 people who are killed in a freak bus accident and end up being guardian angels (against their will) to a baby born at the same time they were all killed. He is the only one who can see them, but it winds up getting him into trouble for "lying" about his "imaginary friends" doing things, so they choose to become invisible to him, even though they remain bound to him...anyway, years later, after he's grown up and forgotten about them, they realize that they need his help to be able to finish their unfinished business. Hilarious movie, I love it!
SquiggyDralion August 15th, 2007, 1:36 am Monty Python And the quest for the Holy Grail
People haven't heard of Monty Python?!?!?!
It's not really a movie, but most people haven't heard of on of my favorite TV shows (with accompanying TV-movie/miniseries), Farscape.
themagickeeper August 15th, 2007, 3:02 am The Great Escape is brill, as is Monty Python...

I was just thinking about that movie the other day after seeing a clip of the Iron Man movie trailer. I love that movie.

It's not really a movie, but most people haven't heard of on of my favorite TV shows (with accompanying TV-movie/miniseries), Farscape.
I'm also shocked to think people haven't heard of Monty Python!
As for Farscape my husband loves it.
The movie I Love is called Hercules Returns it's Australian
Story line: Film buff Brad McBain, a frustrated employee of Australia's largest cinema chain The Kent Corporation, decides to set up on his own and re-open a palatial disused cinema to show classic old films. He chooses the last picture that the cinema featured, Hercules, Samson, Machismo and Ursus Are Invincible, but when the print arrives at the grand gala opening it is in unsubtitled Italian. This calls for desperate measures, and McBain, his projectionist and his publicist are forced to improvise voice-overs themselves with hilarious results that bring the house down! Beautiful bodies, baby oil and muscles abound in this outrageous, side-splitting Australian re-run of the old Italian sword and scandal classic, featuring Hercules as a cabaret artist, his true love Labia, Samson as a wimp and Testiculi, a regular at the Pink Parthenon nightclub in Climidia.
It is so funny even now after watching it sooooo many times I lost count I still laugh all the time.
Auntie_Muriel August 15th, 2007, 8:12 pm I like Kind Hearts and Coronets, its black and white and about a guy who is inline to become a duke but he has about nine family members ahead of him so he sets out to kill them all. is SOOO funny!
JealousOfGinny August 15th, 2007, 9:22 pm i love the movies Cashback, Amelie, and Ghost World.

CheGueWeasley August 15th, 2007, 10:48 pm The Green Butchers ...

Fargo

doeeyes8 April 29th, 2008, 3:03 pm Hmm..I don't know. Uhm..Have you guys ever heard of Lady Jane? A Room With a View? Margaret's Museum? Conversations With Other Women? Sixty Six? Novocaine? A Hazard of Hearts? The Wings of The Dove? The Heart of Me? Sweet Revenge? Women Talking Dirty? Live From Baghdad? Til Human Voices Wake Us?
haha..:D
maielalcinoe April 29th, 2008, 10:38 pm I've heard of Room with a View, Wings of a dove and Conversations with other women.
Personally mine is called Ice Cold in Alex, its an old old film from the 1940s I think and features the great Sir John Mills.
HermioneEmma22 May 4th, 2008, 5:55 pm HAHAHA, SACRE BLEU! A SAFARI!!!! BEST ONE EVERRRRR :)
Don't even ask. My best friends and I dressed up as safari frenchmen and did this safari thing in the middle of the night last summer. It's ridiculously funny. A lot of people find it boring because it's about ten minutes long, but it was so funny filming it. We put it on YouTube. I think it's funny when my best friends and I mention it in front of others, and the others are like, "What??!"
They just don't get it.
:)
Gurg May 5th, 2008, 3:01 am "My Favorite Year" Funniest movie ever.
Lisa_Turpin May 5th, 2008, 6:00 am i love the movies Cashback, Amelie, and Ghost World.
too bad no one knows of them lol.
People don't know Amelie? That's terrible for them! Most of my friends have heard of it if they haven't seen it. It's truly delightful. :)
PureBloodGirl May 5th, 2008, 11:45 pm The Last Sin Eater is really good. I don't think it was ever out in theaters so I doubt it's well known at all.
gipro2003 May 6th, 2008, 12:14 am My favorite movie is called 'Panic in the Skies.' It came out in the middle 90's and I'm totally in love with it, but I dont know anyone else that has ever seen it before.
LilyDreamsOn May 6th, 2008, 1:08 am One of my all-time favourites is Murder By Death but I've never found a single person, other than in my family, who has ever even heard of it. Which I find odd considering the likes of Maggie Smith and Peter Sellers are in it. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.
BelleSnowyOwl May 6th, 2008, 1:54 am "Junebug" from 2005. Amy Adams was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in this movie (and I think she should have won), but I don't know one person who's seen it (or remembers Amy's nomination, for that matter).
Klio May 6th, 2008, 4:10 am Well, I think my favourite movie really IS something of a rarety...
it is a little Czech movie called 'Divided We Fall', at least in English. I have to admit that I can't remember its Czech title. It is absolutely fantastic (it was nominated for a foreign film Oscar, so it isn't TOTALLY obscure!! - and it honourably lost to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). If you are ever lucky enough to come across it anywhere, it is aboslutely worth seeing this!!
It's about a Czech town under Nazi occupation, and the various dilemmas people have to deal with. It's pretty tough, but also funny in places.... and VERY moving.
Here's the imdb link: http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0234288/
adorkable May 6th, 2008, 12:28 pm People don't know Amelie?
I don't know anyone (apart from my brother and sister) who has heard of Amelie. It's a shame, really because the film is very entertaining.
Another film that not many people seem to not know (well, the people I know, anyway) is Requiem for a Dream. It's one of my favourites and is probably one of the most powerful yet disturbing films I've ever seen. Seriously. The direction/style is brilliant.
LoonyMagic May 6th, 2008, 5:04 pm Ong-Bak...my friend introduced me to that one . No one outside my friendship group has ever heard of it. If you like martial arts, then check it out! The lead character does all of his own stunts.
And no one that I know (not including the fandom) have heard of Driving Lessons.
goldensara May 7th, 2008, 1:39 am Lets see... Ratcatcher is one of my favorite movies but nobody I've ever met has seen it. Also My Summer of Love is another favorite lesser known film.
MudBloodSare May 10th, 2008, 5:01 pm Bernard & the Genie anyone??
EXPELIAMUS May 11th, 2008, 4:10 am Flight of the Navigator. Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee) is in it.
mac_attack May 12th, 2008, 5:40 am I watched Return to Oz today...most people I know haven't heard of it. It's from 1985 and stars Fairuza Balk. :D
Also, I used to love this old animated movie called Happily Ever After. It was sort of a sequel to Snow White, only Snow White was different and the Seven Dwarfs were replaced with the Seven Dwarfettes.
Muggle_Magic May 12th, 2008, 6:11 am Didn't go through all the posts, too many. Just putting in my two cents, or rather the two films that come to my mind at this point.
Did anyone see an old POW camp movie from the 60's called "King Rat"? Starring George Segal, Tom Courtenay, James Fox and a lot of famous actors, mostly British. Based on James Clavell's first book, probably autobiographical. It's great. Both the book, and the movie adaptation. Top-notch acting.
In another genre, a movie from Sébastien Japrisot's book "Adieu l'Ami", starring Alain Delon and Charles Bronson. Over here it was translated as "Honor Among Thieves". Pretty good mystery-suspense. I saw it on the big screen in France way back when, then came across it by chance on late-night tv some years ago. Liked it so much I bought the DVD in France. Not sure it's been released in dvd form over here.
Anyone heard of those?
Mad_Druid May 12th, 2008, 8:57 am Flight of the Navigator. Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee) is in it.
Is that the one about this boy who finds an alien spaceship?
EXPELIAMUS May 14th, 2008, 2:42 am Yah. Max is its name, I think. He doesn't even sound like Pee Wee until the middle of the movie. I had no clue until then.
Oh and I remember Return to Oz! She was also in The Waterboy with Adam Sandler. The Wheelers! Love their laugh...
MudBloodSare May 16th, 2008, 4:20 pm The Hairy Bird.
quiditchwitch May 16th, 2008, 8:29 pm Yeah i have see Final Fantasy, much to my regret!!! but my brother loves it!!
ok so i have a few that i dont think many of you would have heard of...
- Drop Dead Fred
- Kung Pow
- The Club
...all i can think of at the moment!!! any 1 heard or seen those?
Drop Dead Fred used to scare me soooo much! And I love Kung Pow. Its one of my favourite stupid movies.
One of my favourites is this really old movie from the sixties called "Oh God". Its sort of like the original Bruce Almighty. Its about this greengrocer who meets God and everyone thinks hes crazy.
Another movie that I also love but is sort of stupid is Rocketman with... well, with no one really famous, but its still hilarious! They send the completely inept computer technician to space because he completes all his training. Its like his dream come true, and hes this adorable man-child. I love it!
GemmaBlack May 19th, 2008, 7:07 pm Sid and Nancy, people here have probly heard of it , but none of my friends had, it was before my time though so I'm not suprised they haven't.
DROP DEAD FRED!! I looooved that film! Oh wow, childhood memories rushing back!
It's scary when his hands some from underneath her pillow though! As if I remember that.
Pippy longstocking anyone?
Mad_Druid May 20th, 2008, 6:55 am Ong-Bak...my friend introduced me to that one . No one outside my friendship group has ever heard of it. If you like martial arts, then check it out! The lead character does all of his own stunts.
I've seen that. It's good :tu:
LoonyMagic May 20th, 2008, 7:43 pm I've seen that. It's good :tu:
No way! :D I was a bit skeptical of it at first (my friend talked about it non-stop for about a week), but it was really good! :D
wickedwickedboy May 21st, 2008, 8:00 am The Dinner Game - Among the funniest flicks if you like sarcastic humor. I laughed from start to finish it was great. It is french, I think it has been translated to english, but it definitely has english subtitles. My best mate hates subtitles, but he started in watching it and ended up sticking with it because it is so hilarious. My girlfriend at the time spoke french and said the translation is perfect. It is also funny in spanish which is my other language and that version has a straight VOB overdub pretty straight translation also -and all very funny.
_LoonyLovegood_ May 21st, 2008, 6:42 pm Clue and All I Wanna Do are two of my favorites; I have yet to meet anyone who has heard of either.
PureBloodGirl May 21st, 2008, 11:52 pm The Mighty. I'm not sure if anyone has heard of it before.
EXPELIAMUS May 22nd, 2008, 7:53 am Clue and All I Wanna Do are two of my favorites; I have yet to meet anyone who has heard of either.
Clue! With Tim Curry right? Hah I loved how he tried to explain the murder in the end of the movie running around the house and all. I heard that 3 separate endings were shown in theaters, but on tv they actually show all 3 one after the other. And there's a subtitle after each one:
That's how it could have happened. But how about this?
But here's what really happened.
GemmaBlack May 23rd, 2008, 9:54 pm Flowers in the Attic?
GeeWizard May 23rd, 2008, 10:38 pm Did anyone see "Amen", a movie by Costa Gavras, of "Z" fame?
About a young Jesuit priest (ironically played by Mathieu Kassowitz, who's Jewish) who has a post at the Vatican during WW2 and can't stand the Catholic Church's closing its eyes on the Holocaust. Trying to help the Jews costs him his life. A very powerful movie, but I don't remember it being released in the US.
Sarahx May 23rd, 2008, 10:47 pm Not many people have heard of 'Conversations With Other Women' but thats great, you should definitely watch that if you like independent movies. One thing that's good is that it's split screen, so you're always focused on both characters. :) I like that, it's interesting.
Oh, and if you love cute movies, watch Benny & Joon.
sllagnire May 24th, 2008, 2:20 am Flowers in the Attic?
There is a Flowers in the Attic movie? As in based on the book by V.C. Andrews?
EXPELIAMUS May 24th, 2008, 4:29 am I saw Flowers in the Attic when I was very little. I was scared when the kids were eating the poisoned food.
A movie that only some may not have heard about, because I think it may have been popular enough, is "The People Under The Stairs". It was kind of funny to hear all of that "going to hell" talk, but I hated the two landlords "mommy and daddy" and the fact that they imprison kids. However, I love the idea of the fun house. I wish I had secret passageways too, my favorite character is Roach. His laugh is hysterical.
Another movie is "The Last Dragon". I'm sure the plot/situations don't make 100% sense, but I just love the movie so much. It's a classic to me. The 80's rule.... Please tell me if anyone has heard of this one!
FleurduJardin May 24th, 2008, 5:17 am One movie that I've watched a dozen times is "Le silence de la mer" (The silence of the sea). One of those rarities, where the movie is actually better than the book (a novelette, really), and the book was pretty darn good.
It's a French family - well, just an old man and his grand-daughter - being forced to have a German officer billetted under their roof. Since they're fiercely patriotic, they never say a word to him (hence the title). But this one is very decent. He's polite and considerate, he's also very cultured. A composer and pianist, the young woman herself is a piano teacher. There is a very strong attraction between the two, but it stays unspoken, at least by her (he doesn't come right out and say it, but he does hint at how "the silence of the sea" is fascinating because of all that's hidden behind), until the very end. She then comes out with the shortest avowal of love in literature and movie history, one single word, when she learns that he's being shipped to the Russian front. She just says "Adieu" (goodbye forever) but tears run down her face. The acting is just marvelous, and the casting perfect.
I wish they would release it here, if not on the big screen, at least as a tv movie on PBS. Heaven knows they import enough movies or series about WW2.
GemmaBlack May 24th, 2008, 3:30 pm There is a Flowers in the Attic movie? As in based on the book by V.C. Andrews?
I used to watch it all the time when I was younger, I knew there was a book called Flowers in the Attic, I've never read it, but always asumed the film was based on it.
In the film it always scared me when the little brother got buried.
No one I know has ever heard of cruel intentions, which I thought was really weird since it's so brilliant.
FleurduJardin May 24th, 2008, 8:15 pm "Joyeux Noël" (Merry Christmas).
People may have heard of it as it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Movie a few years ago but didn't win, probably because another French movie ("March of the Penguins") had already been awarded the Oscar for best documentary.
It's a wonderful movie, set in the trenches during the first year of WW1. There's a Christmas truce between the two sides, they even get together to sing Christmas carols. There's a haunting rendition of "Ave Maria" by Diane Krüger, who plays a singer from a neutral country who came out to entertain the German troops, and also to join her boyfriend or husband who's a German soldier. It perfectly illustrates the saying "Peace on Earth to all Men of Good Will". Unfortunately, the war starts again, and the officers who had sort of befriended each other (exchanging addresses to look each other up after the war) are harshly disciplined for consorting with the enemy.
Recently on French TV they interviewed one of the last survivors of WWI (there are 8 in all in the world at this date) who recalls something similar. That one day (not necessarily Christmas), a stone sailed in from the other side with the message "We won't fire if you don't", so setting their own short truce. The movie, btw, was based on real events.
MudBloodSare May 25th, 2008, 8:51 am Clue and All I Wanna Do are two of my favorites; I have yet to meet anyone who has heard of either.
I think All I Wanna Do is the same movie as The Hairy Bird which I posted earlier! I think? haha it must have been released with a different name in Australia, I hate how they do that!
goldensara May 25th, 2008, 9:28 am Clue and All I Wanna Do are two of my favorites; I have yet to meet anyone who has heard of either.
I saw Clue some years ago, I was about 13 years old I think and I didn't understand it at ALL. Looking back though I think my sense of humor had not developed yet :p
deathplce4myhed May 28th, 2008, 3:39 am Well some movies that no one I know have ever heard of are:
-United States of Leland
-The Green Street Hooligans
-The Boondock Saints [only one person I know has seen this great movie...:(..]
-The Chumscrubber
and a lot of people have never heard of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later..
That is all I can think of right now..
vitacus May 29th, 2008, 3:21 pm Another movie is "The Last Dragon". I'm sure the plot/situations don't make 100% sense, but I just love the movie so much. It's a classic to me. The 80's rule.... Please tell me if anyone has heard of this one!
The Last Dragon was my favorite movie for such a long time. I nearly exploded with joy when I saw it available to buy on DVD.
artemisandapoll May 30th, 2008, 2:01 am Mona Lisa Smile...my favourite movie of like ...all time (I knoww it's not a great cinematic work or anything) and no one's ever heard of it.
draco32 May 30th, 2008, 2:15 am Denis the menace I'm like who has heard of that film?
rich_505 May 31st, 2008, 6:19 pm Battle Royale, quite sinister and Japanese but brilliant.
Hidalgo - Completely flopped in the cinemas but I really loved it for some reason!
That's about it really, I tend to be quite 'mainstream' in terms of movie watching.
TheBurrowers June 9th, 2008, 4:08 pm Yes i have seen this movie everyone i have asked has never heard of this movie, i thought it was great:)
Also got me thinking whether this could happen or not, not very likely though but something to think about none the less:)
Fury June 9th, 2008, 4:51 pm Dragonslayer - with Peter MacNeil. An Old 80s Disney Live-Action Dragon movie. Really awesome movie!
TheBurrowers June 9th, 2008, 5:40 pm Another movie i have seen that i do not no anyone else has seen is a clockwork orange has anyone seen this?
GrangerHermione June 9th, 2008, 6:49 pm Clue!

:rotfl: That was my favorite part!! It was so funny to see him running around everywhere like a maniac.
I really loved Clue when I saw it, but I don't own it. I tried renting it once, but I couldn't find it anywhere. :(
Bunny June 11th, 2008, 10:05 am Another movie i have seen that i do not no anyone else has seen is a clockwork orange has anyone seen this?
Saw it when it first came out - had nightmares for ages.
TheBurrowers June 11th, 2008, 5:59 pm Yes it was quite a disturbing movie but i really liked it and is up their with the best in my opinion, finally some one else to talk to about the movie:)
what did you think of the movie?
Lisa_Turpin June 17th, 2008, 6:50 pm Mona Lisa Smile...my favourite movie of like ...all time (I knoww it's not a great cinematic work or anything) and no one's ever heard of it.
I looooove Mona Lisa Smile. It has a decent cast (Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles, Kirsten Dunst), a nice story line, and the costumes are lovely. It's one of my feel good movies. :)
Hidalgo - Completely flopped in the cinemas but I really loved it for some reason!
I actually had tickets to a preview of that movie and didn't think it was all that bad. Viggo Mortenson did a nice job, but I never followed up on it so I didn't know that it turned out so badly at the box office. Not one of my favorite movies ever, but definitely not bad.
DixieWitch June 18th, 2008, 2:17 am Two of my favorite movies EVER, and they happen to be animated...:err:
Howl's Moving Castle and Quest for Camelot. I can (and have) watch these movies over and over and over...in the same day! I dunno, but there's something about them that just pulls me in and holds me tight. Them, and Twelve Angry Men. A very, very sophisticated and awesome old (black and white) movie.
PotterGurl08 June 18th, 2008, 2:49 am I haven't read this whole post, but I nearly died when I saw someone put "People Under the Stairs." I definitely know that movie! I was so sad when Roach died...
Anyways, here go a few of my movies that it doesn't seem like people typically know about for one reason or another:
Don't Look Under the Bed
Mr. Boogedy I and Mr. Boogedy II
Death Becomes Her
They
Gank'd
Labyrinth
Don't know if any of these have been mentioned already...
IenjoyAcidPops June 19th, 2008, 6:50 am One of my favorite comedies of the last few years, and one that just sort of came and went last year with little notice, is The TV Set, with David Duchovny playing a TV writer trying to get his pilot off the ground without the network warping it into a completely different show. Jake Kasdan directed and wrote, Judd Apatow is executive producer, Duchovny, Sigourney Weaver, and Judy Greer give hilarious and authentic performances; I don't know if it's as obscure as some others on this thread, but this one didn't get the attention it deserved, IMO. Bitter satire at it's finest.
monetmelly June 20th, 2008, 7:48 pm pootie tang
_LoonyLovegood_ June 22nd, 2008, 11:51 pm Clue! With Tim Curry right? Hah I loved how he tried to explain the murder in the end of the movie running around the house and all. This is really old, but I just noticed you had responded to my post. Yep, that's the one. On the VHS they show all three endings with those subtitles, as you said, but on the DVD, you can decide between watching all three and having the DVD randomly pick one. I read that originally there was a fourth ending, but they ended up cutting it. What an amazing movie.
madbouthp June 23rd, 2008, 12:00 am Don't Look Under the Bed
Mr. Boogedy I and Mr. Boogedy II
Death Becomes Her
They
Gank'd
Labyrinth
Don't know if any of these have been mentioned already...
Omg Labyrinth? With David Bowie, I think it was... When those things came and took the baby, that scared the hell out of me when I first saw it!
Wasn't it on Nickelodeon, a few years back?...
Klio June 24th, 2008, 1:08 am Well... no sure where to place this, and I guess not many people have seen this:
I just saw Mongol which is a wonderful movie (got a foreignh Oscar nomination this year). it is absolutely beautiful, impressive acting, unbelievable landscapes and a great story! :)
lil_snuffles June 24th, 2008, 4:05 am Urban Legends: Bloody Mary
Not really sure if anyone has heard of it. I just saw it the other day and I have never heard of it before. It was really good.
Fury June 24th, 2008, 7:21 pm I love Condemned. It is a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) movie with Stone Cold Steve Austin in it.
Anyone heard of it or seen it?
AliceLongbottom June 24th, 2008, 8:35 pm Anyways, here go a few of my movies that it doesn't seem like people typically know about for one reason or another:
Don't Look Under the Bed
Oh my gosh!!! I've seen parts of that one, on Disney Channel when I was younger! I never really liked it that much just because I thought it was scary, so I never really saw the whole movie the whole way through. I'm sure I would like it now that I'm older though...... :D
Odd_the_Strange June 28th, 2008, 5:33 am I thought Don't Look Under the Bed was pretty scary the first time I saw it but still fun to watch--I think I was around 10 then. Another obscure Disney channel movie that I like is The Scream Team.
CharityBurbage June 28th, 2008, 5:48 pm Here are some that I love that not a lot of people have heard of (that I know, anyway)
Hu Die (Chinese movie)
House (old Japanese cheesy horror type thing)
Kiss of the Spider Woman
Hm... I thought there'd be a lot more. I'll add some more when I can think of them.
PureBloodGirl June 28th, 2008, 7:12 pm There's an anime movie called Spirited Away that I don't think is well known, but it is awsome!
lil_snuffles June 28th, 2008, 10:20 pm I thought Don't Look Under the Bed was pretty scary the first time I saw it but still fun to watch--I think I was around 10 then. Another obscure Disney channel movie that I like is The Scream Team.
I remember "Don't Look Under the Bed." I haven't seen that movie in years. That used to be one of my all time favorite Disney Movies.
I don't remember "The Scream Team" though. What was it about?
EXPELIAMUS June 29th, 2008, 7:07 am There's an anime movie called Spirited Away that I don't think is well known, but it is awsome!
I like it too. I have one of its theme songs, it's called "The Sixth Station"...beautiful!
Lisa_Turpin June 30th, 2008, 1:34 pm There's an anime movie called Spirited Away that I don't think is well known, but it is awsome!
That's another of Miyazaki's famous animes, isn't it? I've seen that, and it was really well done. Not one of my favorite movies of all time, but I am not too much of an anime fan. I still appreciate the skill of the animation and the story line. Good movie!
Montse June 30th, 2008, 3:59 pm Mr. Boogedy I and Mr. Boogedy II
I like this ones too.
In search of the castaways with Haley Mills.
jordmundt6 June 30th, 2008, 4:47 pm Miyazzaki's work is about as well-known as any anime is in the States--some of it is excellent, and some of it is excruciating. The problem is, sometimes it's both.
O Brother Where Art Thou is fairly famous--but not that great. I've yet to determine if Three Kings (another of Clooney's minor hits) deserves its reputaton for quality. Good Night and Good Luck (which had a small box office and DVD draw but was darling of the critics) is a quality film.
The Prisoner of Zenda (original version) is surprisingly good.
drummerx July 2nd, 2008, 8:52 pm I watch alot of foreign movies.
One of my favourites that I watched in Spanish class is Maria Full of Grace. It's about a Colombian teenager becoming a drug mule. Really good movie.
I also loved this French movie: À la folie... pas du tout (He loves me, he loves me not) It's sort of a thriller movie I guess, it has a really unpredictable twist. I'd definately recommend it.
Lisa_Turpin July 4th, 2008, 12:24 am One of my favourites that I watched in Spanish class is Maria Full of Grace. It's about a Colombian teenager becoming a drug mule. Really good movie.
Maria Llena de Gracia is a lovely foreign film. Well, maybe lovely isn't the right word, but it's very well-done, and I thought the girl playing Maria deserved her Best Actress nod at the Oscars.
Lillbet July 9th, 2008, 3:45 pm Hopefully I didn't already post this, but "The Dancer" is a Luc Besson movie that I saw while living in Japan that I haven't seen available on DVD, VHS or anywhere, really.
It was quite good- it's about a girl and her brother who live in an abandoned (?) school in New York. The girl is a dancer, but she's also deaf and dumb, so part of the movie is about how she manages to make it as a performer (she teaches movement to kids and does local dance contests for fun, but loses out on a Broadway role when it's discovered she's deaf). She meets a scientist (played by Josh Lucas of "Sweet Home Alabama") who helps her "hear" music through a machine that moves with her. It's got the typical otherworldly feel of a Besson movie with slightly quirky characters and a love story that's very sweet. If you liked "Fifth Element" you'd like this, I think.
Once in awhile a copy is available on Amazon, but it's mostly down to luck. :(
muggleborn168 July 10th, 2008, 2:42 am There's an anime movie called Spirited Away that I don't think is well known, but it is awsome!
I've seen that...it's awesome!
IceHockeyHPFan July 10th, 2008, 3:17 am I have seen plenty of movies that none of my friends have heard of or seen. One would be "Sneakers" with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, and a few semi big name actors. Also "Chili Dogs" and "Mystery, Alaska." I think I have seen a few more but don't remember the names.
vitacus July 10th, 2008, 12:53 pm I saw Sneakers on ppv in a hotel the night before going on vacation to the bahamas. :)
xlilyxevansx July 11th, 2008, 6:58 pm i love princess bride. Its a fairy tale but greatly protrayed. A must-see..x
PotterGurl08 July 21st, 2008, 5:34 pm Omg Labyrinth? With David Bowie, I think it was... When those things came and took the baby, that scared the hell out of me when I first saw it!
Wasn't it on Nickelodeon, a few years back?...
LOL. Yeah...it's when the goblins kid-napped the baby. I remember seeing it ages ago on the Disney Channel.
Denadamedacro July 22nd, 2008, 7:03 pm City of God is a Brazilian crime film that came out earlier this decade. It was an independent foreign film but nontheless received quite a bit of critical attention, partly because of its violence, but mostly because it is probably the best film of the new decade. Not only that, but in my opinion it is the best crime epic ever. Better than The Departed, better than Heat, better than Casino, better than Goodfellas, better than both Godfathers combined. Absolute must watch for everyone, especially for those who like a movies like the ones I just listed.
hplova15165 July 22nd, 2008, 11:48 pm There's an anime movie called Spirited Away that I don't think is well known, but it is awsome!
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! It was amazing!! And I also loved the movie Kiki's Delivery Service or something like that... it was also animated, with the same director.
One of my absolute favorite anime movies is Howl's Moving Castle. I loved that movie! The theme song, "The Merry-Go-Round of Life," is one I now know how to play on the piano! It sounds so pretty and happy. :D
I think very few people have heard of this, tell me if I'm wrong, but I loved the Illusionist. It was amazing!
I heard someone else mention the Princess Bride. I loved that movie, the romance/comedy was adorable!
xweaselkingx July 28th, 2008, 8:21 am I really like Tongan Ninja. Although it's a really Kiwi (New Zealander) movie. Pretty much no one else would understand it, unless they understood Kiwi humour. It's a Martial Arts comedy that's making fun of Bruce Lee movies. It's really quite brilliant, and as a plus, FotC are in the movie. Well, at least Jemaine Clement is an actor. Bret McKenzie is the dance choreographer.
Spirit July 29th, 2008, 8:57 am K-PAX.
It's one of my favorite movies of all time, but no one I know has ever seen it or heard of it. It's a great mystery movie, but it's not about a murder or anything like that. The mystery surrounds a man who's a psychiatric patient that claims he's from a planet called K-PAX. But as his doctor tries to prove to him that K-PAX is only a figment of his imagination and learn his real identity, the man comes up with convincing evidence that he is who he says. He has knowledge of distant star systems and knows things that only the top astrophysicists theorize about, which causes the scientists, the other patients at the hospital, and many workers at the hosptial to believe he is/might be truly from K-PAX. He also is able to "cure" his fellow patients when their doctors cannot.
Anyway, it was a very interesting movie on many levels, and I still don't know the answer to it. But every time I watch it, I take away something new.
Loucura August 18th, 2008, 7:40 am I think this one is quite well known, I'm not sure, but It's called "House of flying daggers" and It's a really good movie! Slightly sad but very nice.
EXPELIAMUS August 18th, 2008, 3:17 pm I saw that movie when it was in theaters. Good action, the last scenes are amazing as the sky and weather changes!
MadisonInferius August 18th, 2008, 8:34 pm I like a lot of underground horror films and foreign flicks so often people don't know them. :P
For example;
La Jetee
Was tun wenns brennt?
Sans Soleil
The Crazies
Mothlight
permafrost August 19th, 2008, 1:15 am I like The Last Unicorn and Labyrinth (as well). The Last Unicorn is an 80s animated movie, but it's really good and sort of sad. It sounds really weird when you describe what's in it to people you know (a skull with a drinking problem, a way-too-scary harpy that will inevitably kill this witch, a bull that looks like anti-communist propaganda, and a tree that tries to smother this guy). Labyrinth is just... awesome. It's completely random. And fabulous.
Loucura August 19th, 2008, 8:10 am I saw that movie when it was in theaters. Good action, the last scenes are amazing as the sky and weather changes!
That is very true.
Another one is "Love me if you dare" and it's french. I really enjoyed this one, it was very sweet, although the end was slightly strange.
Thoive August 21st, 2008, 2:21 am I love "smaller" movies, unfortunately I don't get to see many... I live in a town where independent movies don't go over well, blah. But three that I do recommend, while they're not movies that absolutely nobody's heard of, they're sort of underrated... one is Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day, which came out in wide-ish release this year but didn't do as well as it should have. It has Amy Adams and Lee Pace in it, it's a throwback-to-the-30s film, and it's very cute and good for a nice, fluffy (but not so fluffy that you feel bad about watching it :P) movie.
Another one is called Twelve and Holding, which is a drama about three twelve-year-olds who come to terms with various situations in their lives. It's not at all a kids movie even though it's about kids, and it's quite serious, but I actually really ended up liking it.
Finally, I highly, highly recommend a movie that came out last year called Once. It is an Irish indie movie musical and it's totally amazing. It's really low-budget, but the music and the honesty of the movie makes up for what it lacks in cinematography. It actually won an Oscar for best Song, which was how I discovered it, and it's quickly become one of my favourite movies ever.
PureBloodGirl August 21st, 2008, 4:06 am I'm really not sure if anyone has heard of it or not, but it's a really funny movie from like 80's or 90's called My Blue Heaven. Has anyone HERE ever heard of it?

I agree; Once is a wonderful movie, one of my favorite from last year. Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova give such winning, natural performances, and the music is just tremendous. Highly recommended.

I know of it; one of the less known titles on Steve Martin's resume. I've seen bits and pieces but not the whole film.
vitacus August 21st, 2008, 1:03 pm Yup on My Blue Heaven. Ever since I got a dvd player I've been looking for it to own. Since it was first released, i've only ever seen it airred on tv twice.

I love that movie!! Joan Cusak is hilarious in it.
RemusLupinFan August 21st, 2008, 3:04 pm Anyway, it was a very interesting movie on many levels, and I still don't know the answer to it. But every time I watch it, I take away something new.I've seen K-PAX too. It might not have been one of my favorite movies, but I thought it was very interesting also. The psychological aspect of it was intriguing, and I too was wondering (and hoping) that he actually was from K-Pax. I really liked the ending too.
vitacus August 22nd, 2008, 11:40 pm I wish I could find K-Pax on dvd somewhere. I suppose I'll have to order it though.
Martian Child seemed like K-Pax meets Big Daddy.
BTW, RemusLupinFan...
I love the Dresden Files! Got the series on dvd. Got all the books. Can't wait for the next one "Turn Coat" to come out in April.
mac_attack August 22nd, 2008, 11:47 pm We used to have this movie (we lent it to my little cousins last year and never got it back :grumble:) called The Princess and the Goblin. I've watched it since I was a kid. No one I know has ever heard of it, and they think it's really random when I describe it. It's about Princess Irene who makes friends with a boy named Curty and they end up saving the kingdom from Goblins. It's really good!
ETA: Oooh! I found this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS5NSRuoO4k) clip of it on youtube! Gosh, I love youtube!
ETA AGAIN: Oooh! I thought of another! Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland! This movie traumatized my childhood! I still have memories of nightmares this movie gave me. :rotfl:
Danny August 25th, 2008, 9:19 pm I have seen plenty of movies that none of my friends have heard of or seen. One would be "Sneakers" with Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier, and a few semi big name actors.
River Phoenix was also in sneakers, actually it was one of his last movies before he died
I cant really think of any, how about fright night ? many people heard of that ? lol
hermioneNron September 19th, 2008, 7:51 pm Most of these so far I've heard of.
These might be less common...
-The Brotherhood of the Bell
-The Great Escape (actually pretty famous back when it came out... idk)
-The Spiral Staircase
Drusilla September 20th, 2008, 10:43 am The Hairy Bird, this 1998 movie starring Kirsten Dunst and Rachel Leigh Cook (who was actually really famous back then), about a bunch of girls in the 1960s who're trying to stop their girls-only school from getting merged with a boys' school. It's so obscure you won't even find a trailer on Youtube, and literally no one I've met or spoken to online (unless they're a Kirsten Dunst fan) has ever heard of it.
LBuccalo September 26th, 2008, 12:43 am Rocket Science and Wristcutters: A Love Story
They are indy films but both are them crack me up. No one ever knows what I am talking about when I say something about them, but they are so hilarious.
vitacus September 26th, 2008, 12:35 pm I loved Wristcutters.
LBuccalo September 26th, 2008, 1:59 pm I loved Wristcutters.
Really?? You are seriously the only person that has ever heard of it
vitacus September 26th, 2008, 10:58 pm I saw the trailer for it on another dvd, had to order it from Blockbuster to own. A great find.
My taste in books leans that way too. One of my favorite authors is Christopher Moore whose titles are:
Practical Demonkeeping
Coyote Blue - involves Coyote, the Native American spirit
Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story - vampires
Island Of The Sequined Love Nun
The Lust Lizard Of Melancholy Cove
Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal
Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings
The Stupidest Angel: A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror
A Dirty Job - Grim Reapers saving souls of the dead from soul eatting demons and passing them to new host bodies
You Suck: A Love Story - sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends
So, as you may see from the titles, Wristcutters: A Love Story caught my attention and has become a favorite movie of mine.
LBuccalo September 27th, 2008, 2:39 am Haha yeah I guess I can see why it caught your eye :p I think I saw it on Netflix and randomly looked at the description and thought it looked funny. I love all the indy flix though so I was pretty sure I would like it when I added it to my queue.
Loucura September 28th, 2008, 6:01 am I bet a lot of people have heard of this one-"West Side Story"! But I have to mention it because it is an awesome movie!
Another one is from the 80's and it's called "Romancing the Stone". Has anyone heard of it? It made me laugh because it was a real sort of soppy romance but I enjoyed it ;)
LBuccalo September 28th, 2008, 2:25 pm :rotfl: My sister used to make me watch Romancing the Stone ALL the time! I have probably seen it about 25 times--that was mostly when I was 8 years old too
vitacus September 28th, 2008, 5:44 pm And the sequel The Jewel Of The Nile?
LBuccalo September 28th, 2008, 6:01 pm And the sequel The Jewel Of The Nile?
I actually haven't seen that one, at least not that I know of, going back that far is a little fuzzy :p
Mad_Druid September 29th, 2008, 2:33 am I've seen Romancing The Stone3 or 4 times, my Dad has it on DVD. He has The Jewel Of The Nile as well but it's even worse than the first one
Electricfeel November 16th, 2008, 5:32 am Paris, je t'aime and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds are both movies I love but I've found it rare to find someone else who has even heard of them.
vitacus November 16th, 2008, 8:30 pm Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer
It is utter cheese :)
EXPELIAMUS November 19th, 2008, 9:16 am The people under the stairs.
Kung Pow: Enter the fist
Oceans2342 November 20th, 2008, 3:32 am Paris, je t'aime and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds are both movies I love but I've found it rare to find someone else who has even heard of them.
Those are both pretty popular here. Especially Eternal Sunshine, it's a favorite of almost everyone I know (including myself). Such a great film.
For me it'd be The Red Violin.
It stars Samuel L Jackson (wildly miscast as a lead.. but he's the only actor I'd heard of before.) But it has an incredible score by John Corigliano that's played by Joshua Bell. And it's also a nice story.
Jezebel November 21st, 2008, 11:51 pm The New World and The Fall are the big two for me. They're both my favorites but sadly no one I know has even heard of them let alone actually watched them.
