Has anyone heard of this band? I just found out about them a few months ago and they are AWESOME! You can hear some of their songs here (http://www.myspace.com/harryandthepotters).

I like 'The Human Hosepipe' best.

"And maybe you shouldn't have brought up Cedric Diggory because I'd rather not talk about your dead ex-boyfriends over coffee."

I love Harry and the Potters! They're on my myspace friends list...haha. My username somewhere else is actually "Wrath of Hermione", named after one of their songs. The song itself is really annoying...but in a good way!

Voldemort can't stop the rock.

Oh trust me, I've had "The Wrath of Hermione" stuck in my head for days too. On their website, beside the link to the song it says "Good for repeating on long car rides"...that would be enough to kill me...

Here's a link (http://www.eskimolabs.com/hp) to their site, in case you're interested.

I have been known to randomly sing "My Teacher Is A Werewolf" and "Gryffindor Rocks". Just 'cause.

And yeah, I've been goofing on my pics lately...so I decided to get a really tiny one! hehe

They're alright musically - not brilliant, but we can't expect great things from a spoof band. By the way, this thread belongs in the Quidditch Pitch or somewhere else. It doesn't live here :).

I've only heard a few of their songs. They're amusing to listen to, but I don't exactly like them.

i love them i discovered them through pottercast and got their 2 cds a couple of weeks ago and have been blasting them. they're catchy even if sometimes they don't rhyme. i want to see them live but unfortunately i'm a long way from boston. their best song is the Godfather part2 everytime i here it i get emo about sirius it captures the essence of harry's feeling about sirius perfectly.
i also love human hosepipe, gryffindor rocks, firebolt, fourth triwizard champion(stuck in my head all the time), the weapon, these days are dark, and the dumbledore won't talk to me anymore song

has anyone seen them live and if so what is their live show like?

Musically, they're not that good (I'm not trying to be mean, and I think most people would agree), but I still love 'em!! Their songs are catchy nevertheless, and their lyrics are pretty witty. I saw them in concert this past summer, and let me just say that they are EXCELLENT performers! They're always engaging the audience in, and it's just nonstop fun.

Slytherinborn and ILoveDaniel: Harry and the Potters is a "spoof band", if you will. They're two brothers who write / sing / play music that they write that's about the events in HP. Their site: www.eskimolabs.com/hp.

no really, me too. I have like all their songs. They play in my area and my friends and i are hosting a benefit concert at our school, so we called them and asked them to play. They never called us back though...
my favorite song by them is 'The Human Hosepipe', referring to Harry's date with Cho.
A sample of their lyrics-
Cho Chang what have I done?
I don't care where you and Cedric were snogging
Cho Chang what have I done?
I just want to replay this Valentines Day.

Download it, its possibly the funniest thing EVER.

You people buy into anything as long as the name 'Harry Potter' is slapped on it.

Words cannot express how god awful this band is.

Different people have different tastes remember. They might not be the best musically, but they're fun and have catchy songs.

Anyways, my friend got their cds and is really enjoying them.

I kind of agree...a lot of people won't hear a bad word said about the films simply because it's about HP.
Then again, I think H and the Ps are just a bit of fun, and if people wanna buy into I guess that's their deal. Not my sort of thing, but a good laugh none the less. :)

Harry and the Potters actually played at my university last night!

Naturally, I went to the show instead of doing my French homework. It was completely worth it. Not only was their set awesome, but they gave us cookies and Shark Bites.

I agree with this, but H&TP being a good laugh still doesn't keep me from being appalled that a band like this can become this well-known and publicized while dedicated, passionate, and original musicians from many wide genres of music very often go unnoticed in the mainstream.

Don't get me wrong, if you find this sort of thing fun then by all means... it just seems so twisted.

I heard them for the first time a while back. I think they are great. I love the fact that they are ordinary guys who wanted to something different. I don't understand why people are saying that they are no good? This is what I see...two guys who are big Potter fans and wanted to share there ideas with us. There is no need to be negative. We should be happy for them because they have the courage to stand in front of people and sing for them.

I understand that people have different opinions but lets not be rude about it.

I went to see them live last night, and it was so funny! They really aren't the most talented lyricists I've ever heard, but come on they are a lot of fun! The younger one made me laugh he was quite neurotic. My best friend and I bought 2 of their cd's and listened to them on the way home-many of them are just catchy and funny. Oh and we bought t-shirts, because they were cute! Mine says Save Ginny and has a stick Ginny and basilisk, and hers has Hedwig and says Harry and the Potters. We met them too, very nice guys! We got pictures, but haven't had them developed yet. They are worth checking out, if you don't take life too seriously and expect them to be musical geniuses!

I would hardly say they are "mainstream" as I had never heard of them before they put fliers around my school to promote their show. They seem to travel only in a small area around their hometown, it's not as if they are very popular all over the place. And well, they have a catch. Its not like they will be winning music awards any time soon. But there are a lot of passionate and original musicians and only one Harry Potter band, so that sort of thing is bound to happen.

I think they're terrible. I'm one of the few Harry Potter fans who doesn't like them. I'm not saying this about all of you, but i'm sure a lot of people only like them because they only sing about Harry Potter, when you get past the novelty, their songs are really bad.

"we must save ginny weasley form the basilisk! we must save the school from the unseen horror!"

"oh oh uh-oh-oh, we'll spend our christmas playing wizard's chess!"

heehee!!! and i actually felt REALLY SAD when i heard the godfather part 2? or 3? SO SAD!!!! cry!
"come back now, come back now, come back from beyond the veil! come back now! come back now! com back now! i know you're the-e-e-e-ere..."

i memorize a lot of their songs, such as the one about the krum figurine ron bought.
"...you should know that dismembering figurines of your enemies wont help you impress hermione, she's not interested in mutilated toys..." HAHAHA!

It's funny I think. I have to say though, Harry and the Potters aren't too bad actually music wise. I'm actually not too surprised someone would think of singing about Harry Potter. I don't think they will hit platinum or anything, but it's alright

July 13th, 2006, 12:02 am
I've heard a tiny bit of it now, and it's pretty fun. Listening to Draco and the Malfoys right now, and the lyrics they have are pretty clever; I guess being on "that side of the fence" allows you to add a bit of extra spice to the texts.

Harry and the Potters' Song for the Death Eaters is also really good, the lyrics are a bit cheesy, but cheesy in an amount that it tips over into the "sing-a-long-cheesy"! Love the organ in that song, btw.

I think The Remus Lupins has the most finely polished songs of those I've heard so far, but the difficulty in finding easily downloadable MP3s gives me a light impression of arrogance. (For anyone who wants to know where I eventually found them, download the broken_wand.xspf (http://theremuslupins.com/broken_wand.xspf) file and open in your favourite text editor.)

All in all, a bit rough, but compensates in enthusiasm ;)

At least from the songs I've heard (1 or 2 from each of these groups):
Effort = good
Promoting Reading = the attempt is good, but I seriously doubt there are many people who are big fans of these groups that haven't read the books already, so the attempt is moot
Entertaining Lyrics = hit or miss, sometimes funny, sometimes extremely generic
Musicianship = bad
Singing = hit or miss again, more like "passable" or miss

I'm pretty picky and critical about music though, comes from having two music teachers in the family.

You should try to listen to Harry and the Potters newest cd. There is a vast improvement from their first. I just think their music is so fun and it always makes me smile. As for promoting reading they play in librarys most of the time as to draw kids in there.

Haha, yeah, I know!Promoting Reading = the attempt is good, but I seriously doubt there are many people who are big fans of these groups that haven't read the books already, so the attempt is mootAs Muahahaha pointed out, Harry and the Potters make a point of playing at libraries, and in places like New York City, a free concert at a library can be a draw for kids who may not ordinarily spend alot of time there. There is alot of effort nowadays to get kids into libraries. I'm a member of a teen library board, and we are hoping to have Harry and the Potters come and play sometime this fall or winter. I hope they will, that would be sooo awesome!

Speaking of H and the P's, I just wanted to point out my favorite song of theirs: "These Days are Dark" is so good, compared with their some of their other stuff. It's fun to sing along to, even if it does get a bit long and repetitive at the end. "The Weapon" is my second favorite, even though it's corny. I also like "Draco Malfoy" (great rythym!) and "Dumbledore's Army." :D

I fully understand the attraction to HP-related music, I've tried searching for songs online that related to the books in some way. I am a great music-lover in general, and an even greater HP fan.

When I heard about this band on Mugglecast (apparently they're playing at Lumos) I went to look for them online, figuring they must be good to be booked for such a big event. How wrong I was. I think they only got the gig because of their name, to be honest.

They're terrible!

The lyrics are repetetive, uninteresting and annoying (especially that "oh my god you look like a frog", it's been stuck in my head ever since the one and only time I listened to their songs over a month ago). I'm tone-deaf, can't hold a note to save my life, and I'm pretty sure I could sing better than them. The music makes my ears hurt. The combination of all three makes my skin crawl and makes me want to retch.

I understand the desire to listen to HP-related music, but it would be nice if this "band" learned to use their instruments, bought a rhyming dictionary, and found someone who could sing to join their group, before subjecting us to this horror.

I really like them. They make me laugh so much. And yeah its probably true that i wouldn't look twice if they weren't singing about HP, but what does that matter. I'm not lying when I say I like them even if i do only like them cause of HP. They aren't amazing musicians, but they seriously aren't that bad. They look like a couple of guys who just wanted to have fun with Harry Potter. Is that such a crime? I really don't think, even they, take themselves that seriously. They're fun to listen to. That's the point really.

Ok so i will post it here but i must say that this isn't Wizard rock it is Wizard metal there is a clear difference :D ... So anyway

I was looking through norwegian metal bands on Encyclopedia Metallum( i was a bit bored ) and i found a band called Voldemort!
I was thinking that this couldn't be an coincidence so i looked at the band and the members names confirmed that this is no coincidence:
Lord Dolohov Mulciber-Vocals
Count Draco Horcrux-Guitar
Lady Lysandra-Bass, Backing vocals
Muggleslayer( )-Drums
and the band comes from Durmstrang, Norway

Genre is listed as Heavy/Black/Thrash metal so if you don't like bm already i advice you not to listen to them because i'm guessing that their lyrics might be a bit shocking .
I just thought of informing all of you that there is wizard metal in the world !

edit: they have 4 songs on myspace: At The Graveyard, Mayhem At The Ministry, Dementor and Slaying Trevor. They sound sort of like Mercyful Fate/King Diamond so its really not my cup of tea but the lyrics make it alright (but still the lyrics are bm:ish so be careful)

Harry and the Potters were giving away free Harry and the Potters toothbrushes to people who came to their shows with a book report on one of the books they list on their website. How is that not promoting literacy? They are the two coolest guys. I'd love to meet them.

As Muahahaha pointed out, Harry and the Potters make a point of playing at libraries, and in places like New York City, a free concert at a library can be a draw for kids who may not ordinarily spend alot of time there. There is alot of effort nowadays to get kids into libraries. I'm a member of a teen library board, and we are hoping to have Harry and the Potters come and play sometime this fall or winter. I hope they will, that would be sooo awesome!

So basically that'll draw in anyone who already loves going to the library, or goes to any concert even if it's at a library and they've never heard of the band. Although considering my friends I suppose there really are tons of people out there who will go to ANY concert nearby no matter what

I read some of Harry and the Potter's lyrics from their newer CD, and they do seem a lot better, though the lyrics weren't really "bad" to begin with.

I love wizard rock! I have two Harry and the Potter albums and a Draco and the Malfoys album. I'll admit, they are definately not great musically and if they weren't singing about Harry Potter I wouldn't like them at all but the lyrics make up for it! :D The lyrics are hilarious.

I like Draco's My Dad is Rich because it is just so PERFECT for Draco!!!! But my faveorite will ALWAYS be The Remus Lupins because they were the first i heard!!! And yeah, if they weren't singing about hp they may not have made it as far, but so what? They are singing these songs and they are good, AND the only people who would truly get some of these titles and references are the book fans! Its just another way for us to obsess! If we can draw them and write about them (skewer them even) why not sing of them!

Personally I have never heard of these music bands, but I think it is a bit funny to make up a band from Harry Potter. When I became a fan, I thought of the HP books as very serious and not very popular, but now that I have so many new friends and that I have seen all of these HP fan sites, (MuggleNet and COS are my favorites!) I have found that HP is very popular, but I never heard that there were actually bands going to be named after Harry Potter. I think it's very unique and cool!

I never really paid any attention to the "Wizard Rock" bands. I thought it was a neat idea but I personally never looked into them or went out of my way to listen to their work, BUT.....

Lately Pottercast has been playing some of the music from The Remus Lupins, which is extremely catchy so I decided to look "Him" up, and I've got to say I am really impressed. I'm actually considering buy the album.

Since getting into The Remus Lupins I've been checking out other wizard rockers. I've listen to all of the bands I could find involving Harry Potter and so far The Remus Lupins is by far my favorite. I also am liking Hollow Godric, Draco and the Malfoys, The Whomping Willows, The Half-Blood Princess, The Sectumsempras.

I really doubt it. It surprises me that Warner Brothers hasn't done anything to stop it yet. I mean they told Mugglenet to stop selling t-shirts with images and words relating to Harry Potter. It's the same for these bands. But then Warner Brothers would have to take on Myspace and that would be monumental.

This is my 'review' on wizard rock.

The Wierd Sisters (JKR/WB): I see them as the Rowling Stones or such, which Molly still dances on when she's cooking and also Tonks, Harry and friends can enjoy. Especially good for annoying my brother (I now I’m 26)

The Hungarian Horntails - The First Task
An artist, truly, with takes some time to get used to, as thirst you want to take of your shoe off to hit that cat very hard.

Voldemort - Evil Is Sexy
A little Rammsteinish, Ompa Til Du Dør, western movie theme and many more. Of course dark, but with a twist and diverse. Love it.

The Remus Lupins:
A man with his guitar. Good lyrics, only heard snippets, look forward to hear more.

Draco and the Malfoys:
Guitarband. Lyrics good be stronger. But what I have seen (on video) great live.

Harry and the Potters:
Crazy guys, would love to see them live some time.

And many more to discover.

Tip: If you are really interested check out the Wizard Rock EP Of The Month Club.
There are also some good filk artist.

Haha... they surely don't have the best singing voices, but their songs's lyrics are "bloody brilliant"! My favorite song is "The Human Hosepipe" for sure.
"And maybe you shouldn't have brought up Cedric Diggory because I'd rather not talk about your dead ex-boyfriends over coffee."

haha I love Harry and the Potters. They're so funny and they take their Harry roles in the shows so seriously.

I recently bought Spells from a Broken Wand by The Remus Lupins a few weeks ago…Unfortunately, I haven’t received it yet.

Wizard Rock is probably the only reason I ever visit Myspace. The Remus Lupins own my soul, pretty much. "Loosen your tie 'cause it's time to get crazy"... awesome. I love the idea that our little (um, yeah *looks at CoS membership stats nervously*) community has its own fan made soundtrack. So much fun.

Do you think Jo has heard any wizard rock? She really should.

I don't know how many of you have heard of the band Ministry of Magic. If not, have a listen here: http://www.myspace.com/ministryofmagicmusic

These guys are really talented! They are quickly developing their fan base in the genre of wizard rock.

Check them out. Also they just announced they are taking pre-orders for their new CD!

Last Tuesday, my mom took me to Boarders to reserve our copy of Book 7 and I spotted their Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock! Cd. Of course, I had to buy it. :p I think it's very amusing and they're voices grow on you a lot after repeat listings. My favorite songs buy them that I've heard are Voldemort Can't Stop the Rock! and The Weasle. On a side note, does anyone know where I can find one of The Remus Lupins cds in the U.S.?

At first I thought they were rather stupid and cheesy but now I enjoy listening to it. They are just really catchy and cheesy and it's just fun to sing and laugh.

Here's a link to a cute little song from Gossip at the Gryffindor Tower!

Hey thanks for the link that song rocked. It sounded like a cross between the Mountain Goats, Elliott Smith and late-period Bright Eyes, except it's happy. The Remus Lupins are a rocking band.

I'm in love with Harry and the Potters! Of course they are the best singers but they're congs are so catchy and cheesy. I love the Wrath of Hermione: "Rita Skeeter better shut her mouth before she gets in trouble!"

I'm going to their show tonight and I can't wait to see them live!
