Please post any comments/suggestions regarding the CoS themes in this thread.

Anyway, we have a new style for you all. The awesome new HBP theme (http://www.cosforums.com/index.php?s=&styleid=46) made by our very own Katze (http://www.cosforums.com/member.php?username=Katze).

Thank you for all the hard work Katze! It rocks!! :D :tu:

Wow that's cool.

Oh and I have a more general comment to make is there anyway we could get expanded on other styles? (Not just standard?) Because I like havig the expanded page, but I'd like a bit of variety to, not to fussed though.

Evita, fixed the color. :)

Lucybird, have you seen the switch in the Magical Me, options page (http://www.cosforums.com/profile.php?do=editoptions)?

Scroll to the bottom. Look for "Forum Width".

I've found that the light text on the dark background triggers headaches, but not necessarily migraines. I think it's because most of the websites I go do have the opposite, and so the change back and forth hurts my eyes. I'd been using the COS Lite because of this until two days ago when Ali installed the HBP style.

I'd been using the COS Lite because of this until two days ago when Ali installed the HBP style. For me that kind of problems decreased quite considerably when I got a flat screen. Makes getting brilliance and contrast right a lot easier. I've been happy with stylemarillion since then.

Great job on the new style, Katze! :tu:
And I agree with Alastor D that flat screen doesn't hurt the eyes as much. I like to switch between styles every couple of days, but the new one is definetly one of the ones I like the best.

One question that I'm not sure has been asked before - but why don't the pictures change in the house styles (just curious it doesn't have to, I know it'll take tonnes of work to do so)?

It wasnt quite feasible at the time it was made. I'll add it on my long list of things to do, but no promises.

I guess I am the oddball who likes white text on dark backgrounds. For some reason it is the only kind I can see (it shows up on the monitor I just can't physically see the dark texts). Great job on these though, I was shocked when I logged on and the pumpkin thingy was reaching for me. Spooky!

I have the same problem! I haven't even used the HBP theme before...
I used the standard forum style, but I changed it a few minutes ago to "COS Forums" because I didn't like the christmas style that is used as standard skin right now (I like dark skins on forums) so I had the original skin back but it turns into HBP skin when I go into a forum!

I love the Christmas style, it is one of a few that I can acutually use and see on my computer, seeing as my monitor shows things up very dark, to the point of not being able to read anything. Otherwise, I have to use the default lite, and personally, I don't think it is so much fun. So althought I don't believe the Christmas style will stay up indefinately, know that I am enjoying it while it is here. I will look forward to perhaps having another fun, light forum stlye for those of us where the darker skins just don't work either because of our equipment or our vision. Thank you.

Besanamo
January 29th, 2006, 11:31 pm
Klynnrose, I have the same sort of problem with vision and such. Besides christmas and CoS light style, I recommend the Ravenclaw style. It works very well for me without my glasses, even at night.

A big thank you to TheWizard and Besanamo. I don't know if I have tried the Ravenclaw layout, it might work, thank you for the suggestion. And a huge thank you for even considering working on a lighter forum layout design. The fact that you have it on your "to-do list" is an amazing thought. No pressure, take your time and enjoy the process. I am certain that those of us who use it will love the fact that it is there. Again, thank you. I didn't expect any of that, just commenting that the Christmas style is nice and fun and works for me. *looking forward to the new lighter design*

OK, I hope this is the right thread...

I'm going through all themes to see which one I'd like to use. And then I notice that specifically Ravenclaw and Slytherin's banners don't cover the top. They start about 1/3 of the window width from the left frame, and runs off outside the window! No other banners do this, so I assume there's some bug somewhere. I'm on IE v 5.50 (yeah, I know, crappy browser). But all other top banners in the other skins starts where they are supposed to, so it can't very well be my browser, can it?

Any way, now you know. :)

Just switched to it now. Takes a bit of getting used to when you switch. I think I still prefer COS, Expanded however.

I do have a suggestion. :)

I myself prefer the Gryffindor style/theme. I noticed the banner images always stays the same where it rotates in the main theme. For the Gryffindor style it's the three heroes in the girls bathroom from the second movie.

My suggestion is that I think it would be cool if you had the rotating images there of different Gryffindor's. Ie. Neville, Dean, Seamus, Ron, Hermione, Harry, McGonagall, Dumbledore, Lupin, Sirius, James, Lily, etc... Also for the other houses, though I imagine for some you'd have to just pick kids in the movies wearing those robes to add more. But like Draco, Goyle, Crabbe, the petite brunette (was she suppose to be Pansy?), Snape, Voldemort, Tom Marvolo Riddle, Lucius, for Slytherin. Cedric, Hannah, her boyfriend (don't remember his name at the moment), Justin, Sprout, for Hufflepuff. Cho, Flitwick for Ravenclaw.

Just my suggestion.

The Christmas Skin is awesome. But there are two problems (deficiencies) that appear. One is that the multi-Quote option doesn't have an icon (not a big deal) and the quote option doesn't have the post link available. But overall the skin is great.

Edit- Ah and one more thing. The text in the margins of Fieldset option and in the expand box option appear white which merges with the white color of the layout making it difficult to read. :agree:

Edit2- The multi-quote option now has the icon. Thanks. :tu:

As much as we'd like to make new skins for everyone, we really don't have the time and resources so I sincerely doubt it.

I vote that it needs falling snowflakes. But I know that won't fly since it makes reading stuff harder.

Actually falling snowflakes in the banner would be cool, just a suggestion though.

Christmas style has snowflakes on the index and they are also falling.

I'm surprised the Christmas banner doesn't use an episode from a Christmas scene in the films. I'm curious where that piece of artwork came from.

You could always do a book/movie theme. ;) ie... Sorcerer's Stone Theme, Chamber of Secrets Theme, Prisoner of Azkaban Theme, etc... But that would be a lot more graphics to take up time and space.

I think the current theme selection is pretty nice. I think this board has a lot more options than a lot of boards do.

Okay, how about a Remus Lupin and a Sirius Black theme. ;) Okay, so Lupin is my favorite character and Oldman is my favorite actor.

Frankly, I much prefer Mary Grandpre's illustrations to the movie scenes. If only we had more artworks like that, we wouldnt be using the movie ones at all.

I remember seeing someone post artwork in that forum here on the board that I thought was absolutely superb. It was watercolor artwork but extremely good. Don't recall who it was though. That would be cool though to have a theme that rotated artwork in the banner.

Maybe we could use some fan art, though. Not that I don't absolutely love the Christmas skin just as it is, but maybe next time you are working on one. We could even have a contest for the artwork for a new skin, to while away the time until book 7.

Agreed, GrandPre artwork has a much better feel to it than movie images. Unfortunately, most of her HP works wouldn't really work as general forum header images. The one on the Leaky Lounge is the main exception, but mostly the images aren't celebrational enough to really convey the feeling of people enjoying each other's company.

Yes, the Christmas layout is gentle on the eyes. Otherwise, I can recommend the Lite layout, which is easy to look at, and loads quickly, but of all the non-lite styles, I find the Christmas one loads the fastest.

Ditto.

Something funny I've noticed about the Slytherin theme (which I've not noticed before because I've always used Gryffindor). The bar theme has an image of it of part of the Slytherin seal. You can see the snake curving over a couple of diamon shapes. IMO, those those shapes look like cartoonish eyes, like a silly snake is looking out at you. :p

No matter where I change if from, the default stays --I am having problems everywhere else in CoS, suddenly, too -- I cannot get anything in my message toolbar to work, either -- no smileys, bold, quote tags -- anything. It's just been in the last few days this happened. I am at a loss -- also, there are things in Hogsmeade that are not working at all for me...

My husband is helping me figure this all out -- do we need any Flash to run any of this?

Even though I don't like the U.K. child's edition cover art, I really like this new layout. It's definitely easier on the eyes than the last one. Very well done.:tu:

I just have one problem. The layout doesn't fit in my screen resolution, so whenever I'm reading a thread I have to scroll across back and forth to read the message. It definitely makes it more difficult to really enjoy reading threads. >_<

It wasn't a problem with the last one, so I hope that, if at all possible, this one can be shrunk down just a tad so that an entire post fits within the 600x800 resolution.
