Kenneth Branagh as Gilderoy Lockhart

I thought he played the part brilliantly, but he wasn't how I imagined him.

I thought Kenneth Branagh was a really good Lockhart. He was the funniest character in the movie.

I liked him, but I guess Hugh Grant would have made more sense. He was their original choice. But since they cut out scenes of the girls sighing over his "beauty", it all worked out fine.

He's one of my fav. characters in the movie!!!!!! I loved the deleted scene with the test!

Branagh captured the role brilliantly as Lockhart. His cockiness oozed out in the bookstore in Diagon Alley. Even though he didn't have as much on-screen time as I would have liked, Kenneth stole the movie in every scene he was in.

I know he probably wouldn't be brought back for such a small scene, but I would love to see Lockhart in St. Mungo's hospital for the scene where the gang see Neville and his parents.

I thought he played the part brilliantly, but he wasn't how I imagined him. I thought that Kenneth Branagh was an inspired choice and he obviously enjoyed playing the role, he seemed to throw himself into it.
No, he wasn't how I imagined him - he was better. I think that he stole the film.

Kenneth did an amazing job, and that's much to say for an actor so used to acting ins Shakespeare's plays. He is such a good actor that I was surprised he accepted a role that was so not what he had been doing, but he pulled it off magnificently. He is still Harry the Fifth and Benedict to me, though.

Just watched CoS again with the kids on DVD tonight. Kenneth is absolutely fantastic as Gilderoy, he just shines through the whole movie, I just couldn't stop laughing, absolutely fantastic... He's a fantastic performer, and I would love for Lockhart's part to be written into OotP, but I seriously doubt it would happen.

Oh I love Kenneth Branagh. But I don't like Gilderoy that much (I mean who does, yeah well out of topic but I guess not much, anyways) and him playing Gilderoy was unexpected. I liked it. [It was like Emma Thopson playing Professor Sybil Trelawney.]

he was wonderful, totally over the top and that is who lockhart is. the character is rediculous, i mean lockhart is a joke ( i mean this in a good way) branagh took the part and went with it and didnt hold back. he really did the part justice and gave me some good laughs

I'd say he was pretty good but I dislike the way he acted at the end. I knew that those lines in the end were from the book, but I imagined him acting a different way. If Branagh didn't play Lockhart then I'd choose... Ewan McGregor? Lol, I know it's an odd choice. But he is younger than Kenneth Branagh and I actually read the book imagining someone who looked like Ewan McGregor!

I think Brannagh was awesome-and dare I say, even lovable?- as Lockhart. Still think Hugh Grant would have been more suited if he'd accepted the role, but Brannagh was still good in his own right.

He was one of the highlights of CoS, every scene he was in had me in stitches. I hope to see him in OotP. I donty know, I keep imagining a big finale pantomine style where everyone comes back and takes a bow.....Lockhart was in the 5th book, and something may happen with Nev's parents at St Mungo's and then Locky could return...I hope.

I think Hugh Grant could have been good, you know Daniel Cleaver style Lockhart, however i prefer brannagh as an actor so yer, he did better then Hugh could have :drool: what a legend.

Kenneths performance is one of the reasons why CoS is one of my favourite HP films. Kenneth is such an accomplished actor and has been in enough costume dramas to feel completely at ease in those ridiculous outfits.
Lockhart is one of my favourite HP characters. He is so unbelieveably over the top that it actually works really well.

Kenneth Branagh is not who I would have picked for the part but that only because I mostly remember him from more serious roles. Having seen him play Lockhart I would now not have any other actor do it. He is fantastic.

I also hope he will be included in the next film but unfortunately I think the whole St Mungo's scene will be axed because its just not relevant enough. :(

He was perfect! Exactly as I imagined him. Branagh is also great in Much Ado About Nothing...such a good actor.

I heard some stories about him being laughed at because I think he curled his hair and stuff for the role. He of coursebeing a good actor, laughed a long with the kids. Still, you must feel some remorse to some of the stuff that actors go through just because they take on a certain role. I comend Kenneth and I wouldn't have picked anyone else other than him to play Gilderoy Lockhart. It obvious to me that he is a good actor considering the man he had to play. He did it so well, too!

after watching kenneth branagh in wild west and look back in anger (grr) i think he is an amazing actor. they definetly picked the right actor. i think its amazing how he manages to play so many difrent types of baddies. the dopey baddie who is very vain (lochart) the evil baddie (guy in wild west) and the baddie you just want to reach into the tv and slap (jimmy) is great. i dont think i have ever seen him play a good guy.

I can't! Branagh is hystercal and so funny! He's perfect as Gilderoy.

All I wish for is just one more scene in book 7 between Snape and Gilderoy.

Rickman doesn't even have to say a word. Just let Gilderoy ramble about how wonderful he is and how Professor Snape was his assistant in the dueling club. And then let Rickman scowl at him! LOL!

I met Branagh (And Helena B Carter) with "Frankenstein" I think it´s the best Frankenstein movie so far, acording to the book. So I became a fan.
I saw him in Otello (He plays the evil Yago:: Another villain) and other Shakespeare movies.
God, I got to see "Hamlet"!

Branagh in "Frankenstein" (Who also was the director) changed a few things of the book, but certainly was the first time Frankenstein story was shows truely.

Certainly at the end I knew he will be playing Gilderoy, a comedy role, Hugh Grant would be great too, but Kenneth added his touch to the character.

Branagh as Lockhart, oh man! He was amazing! Although, I did expect Lockhart to be a bit better looking, the way Branagh delivered the character was unbelievable.

After seeing Kenneth Branagh play Shakespear, Gilderroy Lockhart was something very different. I thought he did a wonderful job.

I agree he was brilliant, the Duelling Club scene is probably my fave scene in the movies so far, except maybe the Graveyard. But I would not say he was born to play it. I think it was a brilliant acting performance, he can seem very different in other roles (say, a heroic king in Henry V).

I do hate Lockhart is CoS (but not in Ootp book) but i though Kenneth Branagh played him really well and he looked right too-blonde curly hair and bright white smile.

While I was reading the book I didn't I imagined Lockhart as he was portrayed in the movie, but Kenneth Branagh was perfect in the role, so much better than the Lockhart that I imagined, that his is one of my favorites performances in the movies.
I always loved Kenneth Branagh, he is such a great actor and I saw most of his movies, but with the Shakespeare's background, playing such a different role was a surprise for me. But he really went deep in portraying Lockhart, he captured his characteristics so well, that smile, he was so funny!!

I think Kenneth also improved Gilderoy , he gave something extra to the character, as well as Jason Isaacs did with Lucius.

I think Kenneth Branagh did the best job of any actor in the movie of playing their character. He does such a perfect Lockhart its scary.

But the thing that really made me believe in him was that he sounded so full of himself and he really matched the description from the book. Great actor for the part of Lockhart! I don't think they could've found a better one.

Kenneth Branagh definitely didn't look quite the way I had imagined Lockhart, but he played the character quite well. The reason I'm not fond of him as Lockhart is that he looks too much like William Shatner, which, to me, is a problem.

He did an excellent job with Lockhart. Better than anybody else I could have thought of. As he does with all his roles I have seen him in. My favorite is his performance as Hamlet.

He was great as Lockhart in COS, the constant smiling was great after everything he said, I love the scene where he rebounds his memory spell against him and starts asking Ron who he is and then asks Ron who he himself is.

Branagh's overdramatic pronunciation of "Gilllllderoy Lockhart" at the beginning is simply brilliant. His geeky chuckling at his own humor (humor about his work, if that wasn't enough) is a wonderful little touch, as well.

At the Wizarding World there's a store display of Lockhart..it has some of him books and a few moving photos of Kenneth as him looking so full of himself. I loved that, it tickled me silly! I thought he was perfect as Lockhart, and I'm very curious how much of a stretch it was for him to play the character. I've heard he's a bit conceited in real life, but I don't care because he is a god in my other nerd obsession: Shakespeare!

I think he was fantastic as Lockhart. Somehow I don't think Hugh Grant could have played the part as well.

I thought Kenneth Branagh did an excellent job as Prof. Lockhart. His blondish locks and dashing smile were Gilderoy all over. I also I thought he conveyed Lockhart's vanity and habit of making blunders to perfection. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing that role now. :)
