Now that we have reached book six the vast majority of the characters have been introduced, and in some cases killed off. More over with the films teetering on the half-way-point many of the characters have been or are currently being casted. Though the younger characters are for the most part new to the the level that the Harry Potter films. However, those playing the adult characters are for the most part veterans of the screen.

So I am sitting here watching TNT and the broadcast of The Patriot. And I keep saying to myself there is something blatantly obvious about the actor playing the british Calvary officer in the way he looked and acted, but most importantly spoke. So I go to wikipedia.org and low and behold my suspicions are correct, he is played by none other than Jason Isaacs, and then after further digging, I realize that in my utmost stupidity, he was also in Armageddon as Dr. Ronald Quincy. In the Patriot his character's name is Col. William Tavington.

Any way here is my question, have you ever had one of these moments when you are watching a movie (live or animated) and you know you recognize one of the actors/actresses (by look or voice), who was also in one of the Harry Potter films, and you just can not put your finger on who they are, thus driving you crazy until you do figure out who that actor or actress is?

Yes. In fact, a few nights ago, I was watching Disney's "The Road to El Dorado" and I was listening to Miguel (the blond guy from Spain with the English accent) and I thought he sounded kind of familiar. I brushed it off as just coincidence because I'd seen the movie a bunch of times before, but then I was watching it on Media Player on my computer and Media Player showed "Kenneth Branagh" as one of the actors in this movie. I thought I had misread the name, but I looked on IMDB and, sure enough, Kenneth Branagh played the voice of Miguel, as well as Professor Lockhart in CoS. By the way, Kenneth doesn't seem to have signed up for a part in OotP, so I guess the Hospital scene is out, or at least his part in it... unless they get someone else to play Lockhart for that movie. :(

Hardly anybody has been listed for OOTP on IMDB yet. Just the trio and Jason Isaacs have "officially" signed up for the movie according to that site.

I was watching the film "Galaxy Troopers", a sci-fi comedy once. This was after SS/PS was released. When Alan Rickman's character appeared, I realized who he was and I started squealing and pointing at the screen! I was like "That's Snape!"

ROFL. Rupert Grint in the Thunderpants trailer. I watched it for a minute and then when his name came up i was like, WHAT THE-!

He looked so nerdy :D

Also Arthur Weasley was in an advertisement. I only realized it was him at the end.

In "Chicken Run" Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew) does the voice of one of the rats. He was also in "A Series of Unfortunate Events" as the attorney who is in charge of the kids.

Alan Rickman (Snape) has done lots of movies including Die Hard, Galaxy Quest, Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy, Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, and many many more....

Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) played the General in "Toys" with Robin Williams. He also plays the editor in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow".

Gary Oldman was in "Bram Stoker's Dracula", "Batman Begins", "Rosencrantz and Gildenstern are Dead", "The Fifth Element", "Lost in Space", and many more.

Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge) was in BBC's "All Creatures Great and Small" series.

And Maggie Smith's (McGonnagal's) resume is so long that you would be better off just to go to www.imdb.com/search and look her up! :)

These three I knew from before HP ever came out, Alan Rickman I'd seen in all of those (cept HG to the Galaxy as it wasn't out yet), and I'm a big Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves fan so I've always seen Rickman as a baddy. And don't forget he played in Love Actually, along with Emma Thompson.

As for Oldman, I knew him from the Fifth Element and I honestly can't see him as a good character ever since, and even as Sirius, even though I know how good he is, he creeps me out!

And I actually knew Daniel Radcliffe before he started playing in HP. I remember when they were starting the casting, there was an article that said it was between Daniel Radcliffe and Haley Joel Osment (back when Spielberg was considered as director and American actors were being considered) and I can't remember who I though would be best for the role, but I knew Daniel from "David Copperfield", in which Maggie Smith played too.

Oh and I saw Julie Walters in "Calendar Girls! Not quite the same type of movie as Harry Potter!

well she is about to be a hp actor so i'm going to say Imelda Staunton. I love her as the nurse in Shakespeare in Love. Today I saw Nanny McPhee and she is the cook in that! I really like her. And Emma Thompson is in that too!! She was very good. I remember her in Much Ado About Nothing with Professor Lockhart, er Hamlet, er Kenneth Branagh. I wish Derek Jacobi would get a role in the movies, i just love him (not sure who he could possible be though :()

Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter) also has a long list of appearances under her belt. Again go to http://imdb.com/search to find out more about all of her movie and TV credits.

Since Harry Potter is so important to most of us here, I'm very pleased that the franchise has been able to attract such wonderful talent when making movies out of our favorite novels.

I'm also sure that many of the actors are pleased to have been a part of HP, especially the younger ones (like Rupert, Emma W. and Tom F.) who are just starting their careers. It doesn't appear to have harmed any of the veteran actors, either. A lot of them seem to be experiencing a 're-awakening' of their careers after some dry spells. :agree:

We have "Black Beauty" (made in 1994) and the cab driver is Lupin!

"Sense and Sensiblility" - another Rickman film, he plays dashing Colonel Brandon- big age difference between him and Kate Winslet's character!

"Chicken Run" I never realized that about the rat- funny!

And as far as "the Patriot" that is one of my favorite movies, and when I first saw CoS, I thought they couldn't find anyone better to do "evil " than Jason Issacs.

I simply loved David Thewlis in Dragonheart... he was so cool in that movie...

One of the reasons I got Batman Begins was because Gary Oldman is in it... and if they make him look like that for Sirius in movie 5... it would be sooo cool! He kind of looks like how I picture... Wedding!Sirius... you know?

The guy that plays Peter Pettigrew is also in The Last Samurai... he looks so different there!

And also... the lady who played Aunt Marge (Pam Ferris)... is the Headmistress from Matilda... I didn't know that until recently, and I really wanted Pam Ferris to play Umbridge... aw well...

Sleepy Hollow (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162661/) must be the coolest town ever, considering the town council includes Dumbledore and Uncle Vernon, along with Ed Rooney, Emperor Palpatine, and Alfred the butler. Plus, Sleepy Hollow features Miranda Richardson, as Michael Gambon's wife! Anyone up for a Dumbledore/Rita Skeeter pairing?

Julian Glover, who voices Aragog, is also in a James Bond movie (For Your Eyes Only), a Star Wars movie (Empire Strikes Back) and an Indiana Jones movie (Last Crusade). He plays a bad guy in each one.

And it's not exactly a movie, nor is the actor actually in Harry Potter, but I just discovered that Rik Mayall, who was cast as Peeves, plays Harod in the version of Jesus Christ: Superstar that I listen to. Although I agree that cutting Peeves was a good decision, his voice is perfect.

That's pretty funny, because yesterday I was watching TNT thinking the same exact thing. That British officer does look familiar doesn't he?
It's interesting how he always seems to play the bad guys. His character was supposed to get killed off, but he faked his death so that he could get back at the other characters in the movie.

Tom Felton and Mark Williams in "The Borrowers"--omg red headed Tom Felton! He was ADORABLE!!

Alan Rickman in "Die Hard"--the minute I heard his voice I was like "OMG IT'S SNAPE!!!!!!!!!!"

Julie Walters in "Billy Elliott"--it took me a while to recognize her as the dance teacher. It was just such a change from Mrs. Weasley!

David Thewlis in "Seven Years in Tibet"--he had the same mustache! I was referring to him as "Lupin" the whole movie!

Ian Hart has popped up three times in the one week: A Cock and Bull Story (as a passively irate scriptwriter with jug ears and seven kids), Breakfast on Pluto (nearly stealing the end of the movie as a jug-eared, mustacheoed copper) and The Virgin Queen (with a beard and little cap resting on said jug ears).

Micheal Gambdon and MAggie Smith were in Gosferd Park recently. The Dame MAggie Smith has been in a number of movies, my favorite being Evil under the sun, where she matches snarky wit with the other queen of snide, Diana Rigg.

Alan Rickman is probably the best known in american films, and was also the voice of Marvin the Depressed Robot in Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.

Kenneth Branagh and his former wife Emma Thompson were in a few movies together, including Dead Again, along with Derek Jacobi (who isn't in Harry Potter but should be)

Robbie Coltrane is another one who's been in many films, including Krull

Jason Isaacs is also in a lot of american pictures, my favorite being Event Horizon.

Ollivander is played by John Hurt, who provided the voice of Aragorn in the cartoon version of Lord of the Rings (the 70s have a lot ot answer for kids) and the chest cavity for the alien in Alien.

Ray Fiennes, Lord Voldemort, was in the Avengers, but we'll forgive him.

David Tennent, Barty Crouch Jr is the new Doctor Who.

Julian Glover has been in several movies and television, including a couple of Doctor Who episodes, and was also in Diamonds are Forever (making that two Bond movies)

Warwick Davis, aka prof Flitwick was in Willow as the title character and also played an ewok and then a homicidal leprechaun.

Rosmerta is played by Julie Christie, with an acting resume as long as my arm, including Farenheit 451, Dragonheart, Doctor Zhivvago and Troy

Now for some more obscure...

Miranda Richardson played Queen Elizabeth in the second series of Blackadder, along iwth Stephen Fry who reads for the audio books.

Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) was in the pilot of Red Dwarf as Olaf Peterson.

Tom Felton (malfoy) was also in an episode of "Second Sight" with the very yummy Clive Owen, and I was very impressed with his performance.

I'm pretty slow at recognizing actors in different roles and the only reason I recognized Richard Harris (Dumbledore) in The Gladiator was because of his unique voice. Imagine my horror as I watched Dumbledore get choked to death by his own son. A few months later I watched Unforgiven and again recognized Harris by his voice and again to my horror I watched Dumbledore get the snot kicked out of him by Gene Hackman. I know I shouldn't refer to his other characters as Dumbledore, but I really loved his portrayal of the headmaster in the movies and it is hard for me to see him in a different role. Which is every actor's worst nightmare.....

I didn't catch this one, someone else did, but I can't recall who to give credit. Filch (David Bradley) was Noah in Blow Dry.

And there must have been the same casting director for HP as for Sense and Sensibility. Emma Thompson (Trelawney), Alan Rickman (Snape), Robert Hardy (Fudge), Gemma Jones (Poppy), Elizabeth Spriggs (original Fat Lady). I know some of that has probably been mentioned already.

Maggie Smith in Clash Of The Titans!!! Love that movie...as cheesy as it is...

You gotta' be kidding....she was in Clash of the Titans....I know it's cheesy but I LOVE that stupid movie....along with all the Sinbad flicks (three cheers for Ray Harryhausen....I love the skeleton scene in Jason and the Argonauts) Those were the days before GCI and hungarian horntails and stuff.

And was Richard Harris really in Gladiator....I'm gonna' have to check that out. I just don't remember him in it. My bad....I read somewhere that he was in "Horse" too and had the hooks stuck in his chest....I remember seeing that movie a million years ago but didn't know it was him.

So much to learn, so little time!!

Oh yeah, and didn't that little owl thingie in Clash of theTitans remind you of the Golden Snitch...or vice versa?

I knew Daniel Rdcliffe and Maggie Smith were in David Copperfield before I saw the film, so that was no surprise for me.

When I saw a series of unfortunate events, Mr. Poe looked quite familar, and when I saw the credits, I was thinking, "oh he played Wormtail".

When I saw airforce one (which was after I saw POA), I didn't realize that the bad guy was Gary Oldman until I saw a picture of Sirius Black afterwards. I was looking at sirius black, and I was thinking, "hmmm, where have I seen him before, that face looks so familair". And the realization was so shocking, because he really scared in me in airforce 1.

Gary Oldman (sirius) played Comissioner Gordon in Batman Begins... (I didn't even realize it was him until the end credits)
Alan Rickman, and the guy who played Lockhart were both in Hamlet (both played the part Hamlet as wekk).. Alan rickman played him in a stage production of the play, and The Lockhart guy played him in a movie version..
Rupert Grint was in 1 or 2 really stupid kids movies.. (I can't remember the names)
Tom Felton was in "the borrowers" he played the youngest kid...

Alan Rickman was also in an episode of "King of the hill"

And.. Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter) played Hermione in a Harry Potter parody..

I saw Ralph in Maid in Manhattan but when he was in it, (this was after HP) i didn't recognize him at first! It was pretty funny!

There's a link to make here, too. David Tennant was in an episode of "The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries" (On PBS) starring Diana Rigg. :D

On a side note, when I saw that show a few days ago I kept finding unintentional Hp references all over the place. First, Tennant was in an episode, then, the chauffer's name is George Moody, and then someon mistakenly calls him Moony, and then in there's a character who is witch-like, and Diana Rigg wonders if she has a cauldron...geez, you can read HP into anything

I was watching Only Fools and Horses last night and I laughed doubly hard at everything Trigger (who is played by Roger Lloyd-Pack, a.k.a. Crouch Sr.) said because I kept thinking of him saying "the Chinese Fireball...ooooohh!!":D

I loved Gary Oldman in "The Fifth Element". He was this mad villain so I can see why they chose him to play Sirius.

Kenneth Branagh who played Lockhart in CoS is one of my favourite actors so I was so pleased when he got that part. He played so well.
he used to be married to Emma Thompson who plays Trelawney, she played the wife of a character played by Alan Rickman in "Love Actually" and we know what role he plays in Harry Potter..Its all connected

Okay... sorta mad... but he was also very funny in the movie...

I loved Gary Oldman as Gordon in Batman Begins... he was so brilliant as Gordon. Funny too. If they keep that appearance for Gary with a change of clothing... he will be perfect as the cleaner Sirius in Order of the Phoenix.

I saw the BBC's adaption of Our Mutual Friend and not only did it have David Bradley playing Rogue Riderhood he looked extacly like he does as Filch. Same clothes, hair, sneer and voice.

Also, for the 6 degree's fans, there was also Timothy Spall...looking a lot like Pettigrew (apart from the teeth).

Both Timothy and David will be in the upcoming Hott Fuzz, brought to you by the same folks who did Shaun of the Dead. Timothy's son Rafe will be in Hott Fuzz aswell, he was a hoot as the cheeky young sales assisant in Shaun of the Dead :)

I remember watching "Sense and Sensibility" and thinking, goodness, Colonel Brandon has such a peculiar voice. Later when I watched HPATSS, I realized that the voice of Professor Snape was the same as Colonel Brandon! I must say that Alan Rickman is much more convincing as a mean Professor than a romantic leading man!

I also remember seeing (and hearing!) Alan Rickman's voice in a western called "Quigley Down Under" with Tom Sellack. He played the part of the bad cowboy, Elliot Marston. I must praise Alan Rickman, he's such an amazing actor with such a distinct voice, you can't help but like him!

I have seen many movies with Harry Potter actors in them (Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, and Jason Isaacs especially) so I am not very surprised when I see them. It is foolish to think that HP actors only do HP movies, and since I have seen many of the actors in roles before Harry Potter I often see them as someone other than their Harry Potter character (Jason Isaacs and Maggie Smith, for example). However, I am now getting better with thinking of Isaacs as Lucius and Maggie Smith as Minerva, for I have seen them in Harry Potter more often than in anything else, now.

I do not think I have been in the situation of watching a movie and seeing a HP actor and not knowing what (s)he is from. However, I have, many times, seen Harry Potter and then watched a movie with one of the actors in it. I always receive a little jolt of surprise and delight when I see familiar faces in new movies.

In "A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," Alan Rickman (Snape) did the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android, but the man inside the robot suit was Warwick Davis (Flitwick.)

Maggie Smith (McGonagall) played Medlock in "The Secret Garden." She is good at strict people, apparently...

Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter) was Madame Giry in "The Phantom of the Opera." Very interesting to see her singing, with a French accent...

Li'l Tom Felton was in "The Borrowers"-- when I saw PS for the first time, I couldn't stop laughing, because who could be threatened by Draco Malfoy when he's being played by PEAGREEN, of all people?

The original Dumbledore played King Arthur in "Camelot." That was very interesting, seeing a young version of Dumbledore singing and dancing and wearing excessive blue eyeliner for some reason...

Alan Rickman was in Michael Collins as Eamon De Valera, and Ian Hart - Quirrel in PS/SS - was in the same film as a Republican rebel close to Michael Collins.

John Hurt whol played Ollivander in PS/SS was Doctor Iannis, Penelope Cruz's father, in Captain Corelli's Mandolin

Jason Isaacs appeared in a few episodes of West Wing as an Irish journalist based in Gaza

The TV series Charles II : The Pride and the Passion featured
David Bradley - Filch - as a saintly magistrate working on the streets of London after the plague - very different from our "favourite" caretaker!

Sean Biggerstaff - Oliver Wood - as the younger brother of the King. I think he was called Henry, but I'm not sure. He died near the beginning.

Christian Coulson - Tom Marvolo Riddle - as James, Duke of Monmouth, the eldest illegitimate son of the King who later tried to take the crown to prevent his uncle from becoming King.

Shirley Henderson - Moaning Myrtle - as the King's consort (wife) the Portuguese Princess Catherine of Braganza.

Shirley Henderson also appeared with Gemma Jones - Madam Pomfrey - in Bridget Jones

Robbie coltrane was in a couple of Bond movies but is best known in the UK for playing Fitz - a police psychologist in Cracker.

Just remembered Shirley Henderson was also in Trainspotting where she played Ewen bremner's girlfriend

Jeff Rawle who played Amos Diggory in GoF was in a big 90s sitcom Drop the Dead Donkey set in a newsroom, and I also remember very vaguely seeing him on a kids tv show where he played a father going through a divorce. I know it was on cbbc but I can't rememer the name!

Alan Rickman (Snape)-I've seen him in: Die Hard, Galaxy Quest, Robin Hood-Prince of Theives, and Love Actually. I know he's been in loads more, but I haven't seen them...

Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter)-She's in the Blackadder TV series, Sleepy Hollow and there's another film I've seen her in but I can't think of the name...Phantom of the Opera that's it  don't know why I couldn't think of the name for that film :S pmsl!

David Tennent (Barty Crouch Jr)-He's the new new Doctor in Doctor Who! On an interesting note, the guy who plays Barty Crouch Sr. was a bad guy in Doctor Who, he was the bad guy in the Rise of the Cybermen episodes.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry obviously)-Saw him in David Copperfeild.

Maggie Smith (McGonnagall)-I saw her in one of her earlier films from about the 1950s/60s or something, and I recognized her straightaway, from her looks and her voice. she was a blonde! And she's in Sister act, David Copperfield and the list could go on forever...

David Thewlis (Lupin)-I saw him in the Island of Doctor Meuro (sp?) when we were watching it in school, and I went totally mad and everyone thought I was strange. Can't think why. :p

Tom Felton (Draco)-Saw him in the Borrowers! Noone believed me just because his hair was a different colour...so that obviously means, despite the fact that he looks almost exactly the same and his name is in the credits that it isn't him

Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney)-Love, Actually and Nanny McPhee.

Michael Gambon (New Dumbledore)-Sleepy Hollow and this creepy film on TV where there was a flashback from where he was a kid and saw something that I can't write down here. I can't watch PoA and GoF without thinking of it everytime I see it now....

Gary Oldman (Sirius)-Hannibal (That was really weird :|), Batman Begins and erm...I can't remember! I've seen him in other films, I just can't think of them...Oh and he was in Friends. ("I'm wearing two belts!" haha :D

Rupert Grint (Ron)-He's in Thunderpants and he's going to be in Driving Lessons with Julie Walters and an ITV drama series, also with Julie Walters. Something going on between them if you ask me

Julie Walters (Molly Weasley)-Billy Elliot, Calender Girls (:nc:) and she's going to be in Driving Lessons and the unnamed ITV drama with Rupert, as I mentioned before.

Ralph Feinnes (Voldemort)-Saw him in Maid in Manhatten (why was he in such a terrible film?), The English Patient, The Constant Gardener and Schindler's List.

Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey)-It drove me mad trying to think the Briget Jones' mum was, then I watched CoS and realised it was Madam Pomfrey :D And I recognized her in Shanghai Knights as Queen Victoria.

Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle)-She's in an episode of Doctor Who and I think she's in Briget Jones' Diary.

Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid)-In a Bond film, thnk it's The World Is Not Enough. It's either that or Tomorrow Never Dies. Oh and in Cracker.

Helena Bonham-Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange)-She was in Fight Club! That's one of my favourite movies :D

That's all I can think of for now...

I watched Sleepy Hollow today (with Johnny Depp) and I was surprised how many Harry Potter stars are in the movie.

Michael Gambon (POA to now Dumbledore)
Miranda Richardson (Rita Skeeter-GOF)
Richard Griffiths (Uncle Vernon Dursley)

Oh my god I know!
I always noticed that.
I really liked Alan Rickman in Blowdry and I've also seen him in Love Actually.
Madam Pomfrey as Bridget Jones' mum! :rotfl: I love her in Bridget Jones!
And I really like Ralph Fiennes (we will never speak of "Maid in Manhattan" again)
And Moaning Myrtle is in Bridget Jones' diary as well, as stevegryffindor said. And Trainspotting.
Robbie Coltrane...he's in From Hell
I never saw Gary Oldman in Friends! :upset: but I did see him in Batman begins.
And Emma Thompson I've seen in Love Actually and Sense and Sensibility.

I have seen a lot of actors out of the Harry Potter movies in other movies. It's hard not to.

At school we were watching the film version of 'Much Ado About Nothing' and I didn't pay a lot of attentions to the names credited but immediantly I recognised Emma Thompsons voice and saw Imelda Staunton.I was very interested and then saw Kenneth Brannagh riding up on horse back! That was a great English lesson and I hate English!

I saw David Bradley in Sweeney Todd with Ray Winestone a few months ago and he reminded me of Filch then.He was a scrufy criminal and he was sort of like that when he played Noah in Blow Dry.

I watched Sleepy Hollow and that had three HP actors in it.(Micheal Gambon,Miranda Richardson and Richard Griffins.)

Sense and Sensibility had the most HP actors in it that I have seen.Emma Thompson,Alan Rickman,Robert Hardy,Imelda Staunton,Elizabeth Springs.I think that's all of them.

Maggie Smith in Sister Act(1 and 2),Hook,Keeping Mum(with Rowan Atkinson!)

Alan Rickman was in fantastic in Sense and Sensibility and Love Actually

Richard Griffins was in Sleepy Hollow,Naked Gun 2 and a half,Vicar of Dibley and he likes to play holy people!

Gemma Jones in Bridget Jone's Diary was great.

David Thewillis was in Kingdom of Heaven that I've sort of seen.

Gary Oldman was creepy in Dracula.

Robbie Coltrane was in Fraiser and I was like 'Daphne's brother is Hagrid!'

Aunt Marge is Trunchbull!Wicked woman!

Tom Felton was so young in The Borrowers!

I saw Helena Bohem Carter in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory as Mrs Bucket. She seemed nice. She can't be nice for Bellatrix though!

I only realised after I'd seen Prisoner of Azkaban that Rupert Grint was the smart kid out of Thunderpants!

Emma Thompson.I saw her in Maybe Baby and Love Actually. She was nuts in Maybe Baby!:p

Julie Walters was in Billy Elliot playing a strong Mrs Weasley like person.

John Hurt was in Valiant.I knew his voice at once.

Roger Lloyd Pack is Trigger in Only Fools And Horses.

Mark Williams in the Fast Show!Brings a tear to my eye everytime I hear him go 'Oooh!Suits you sir!' I can so imagine Mr Weasley doing that!I don't know why!

These actors are fantastic!I wouldn't change their parts in the films for anything! :p

I was once watching this science documentary, E=mc^2, in science class, and the person playing Einstien's first wife was Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle). At first it was her voice that caught my attention, but a fellow HP fan in the class identified her as Myrtle! I was surprised.

McGonagall was very good in Sister Act.
Lucius Malfoy was a bad guy in an old tv series called Highlander.

Richard Griffith (Vernon Dursley), was amazing in Withnail and I, but I saw that film a long time before the HP movies, so I guess that doesn`t count. Likewise with Alan Rickman, I`d already seen alot of films with him in.
But I had no idea the guy who plays Filch was in Blow Dry (also starring Alan Rickman, Blow Dry managed to blow and suck at the same time)! He was also in Midnight Garden, and Maggie Smith was in Secret Garden.
Also Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle), was in 24 Hour Party People.

Daniel Radcliffe (Harry obviously)-Saw him in David Copperfeild
As was Zoë Wanamaker as Miss Murdstone and Dawn French as Mrs. Crupp. (Dame Maggie has already been mentioned in a previous post)

There is a little known film by Kenneth Branagh called Dead Again (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101669/). He appears in that with his then wife Emma Thompson.

Richard Griffiths was in a TV series called "Pie in the Sky" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106102/), which I thought was great fun.

This may have been mentioned but when I saw the Peter Pan movie that came out a few years ago I didn't pay much attention to the guy who plays Captain Hook but then when it was on TV the other night, I realized that it was Jason Isaacs. If it hadn't been for seeing the bit of credits at the end, I probably would have watched the movie and never paid any attention to it, just like I did last time.

Who else have I seen...
-Alan Rickman is most of the movies already named. The guy is everywhere
-Jason Isaacs in Friends With Money, The Patriot, Peter Pan and Dragonheart
-Gary Oldman in Batman
-David Thewlis in Dragonheart, Kingdom of Heaven, Seven Years in Tibet (that one took a few tries because of Brad Pitt) and, after IMDB-ing to check, James and the Giant Peach
-Richard Harris in Count of Monte Cristo and Gladiator
aaaaaaaand it's mostly the same as everyone else after that.

Normally I only recognize the ones above in movies otherwise I spend the rest of the show going 'hey! It's that guy!'

Rupert Grint and Julie Walters

I've noticed that a lot of people have mentioned Sense and Sensibility for Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson, but Robert Hardy (Cornelius Fudge) is also in the film (as Sir John Middleton) and Elizabeth Spriggs (the Fat lady in P/S film) is there as well as Mrs. Jennings. I love Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman, they're in just about every British movie!!

Forgot to mention, Gemma Jones (Poppy) was in S&S too, as Emma Thompson's mother, Mrs Dashwood... It's like Harry Potter, Jane Austin Style!!

The most obvious one that stands out to me would be when i was watching the friends episode when chandler and monica are getting married, and joey was making a war film with a british actor. I was sat there for ages thinking "I've seen this guy somewhere before..." and then my sister walked in and said straight away "That's Gary Oldman". *smacks head* I need to pay more attention, I normally work out who they are straight away!

Had absolute no clue Michael Gambon was in it & when he appeared, I had no idea who he was but when he spoke, how could any1 not recognize that voice? His voice is just so 'wOoOoo ahHhhH.' I've never seen him without his Dumbledore gear so I was very :wow: He didn't play a very nice guy in Layer Cake so it was very intriguing to see him outside of the family friendly, good guy, every1 loves him kind of role :)

The actor that I see the most is Robbie Coltrane aka Hagrid. I actually just saw him in a movie last night... Alex Rider (something Stormtrooper) and he was the prime minister. I have also noticed him in Oceans 12. It's just so crazy to see him out of the Hagrid character. But I always notice him by his voice and then I'm like it's HAGRID!

I knew of Alan Rickman, Jason Issacs, Gary Oldman, Ralph Finnes, and Emma Thompson long before Harry Potter came out. So, whenever I see any of these characters I'm not as shocked... but I am starting to associate them more with Harry Potter than I did before.

I saw Emma Thompson play a fictionalized version of Hillary Clinton in Primary Colors. I remember Robbie Coltrane from the James Bond movie "The World is not Enough," where he had less facial hair.

The only HP actor I recall seeing in a move that came out after the HP series started was Gary Oldman as Gordon in Batman Begins. He wasn't quite commissioner yet.

Jason Isaacs was in Armageddon. I believe he played the NASA science guy.
