Disclaimer = This is my first Harry Potter fic and it disregards some of the facts in Book 6 as it is set in the 6th year at Hogwarts. I will post the link for feedback at the end. Enjoy.
I Rewrite My Life Beneath The Moonlight
Chapter 1 - Butterflies
I looked nervously up at the scarlet steam engine, with a look of fear and anxiety. This would be my sixth year at Hogwarts and if it was anything like the year before, I admit, I don't want to go back. To make things worse, I now had no best friend to confide in. It's going to be like my first day here at Hogwarts all over again. Chloe, my best friend, had fell ill over the summer holidays, and her parents say she will not be returning to Hogwarts this year.
I looked down at my glistening watch, the time was almost 11:00am, so I plucked up the courage to board the train. As I was walking past all the compartments I realised there were none empty. 'Right', said the voice in my head, 'the next compartment I come to, I will ask the people in it if it's ok that I sit with them'.
My jaw dropped as I reached the next compartment. Sitting there was none other than Harry Potter.
"Um... Is it ok if I sit in here with you? Everywhere else is taken..." I shakily said, my Sheffield accent sounding more broader than usual.
"Yeah. Sure." He replied, "I'm Harry."
"I'm Rebecca. Becky for short." I smiled.
"You a fifth year?" He asked.
"No. Sixth."
"Are you a Ravenclaw?" He asked, looking weirdly at me.
"No. A Gryffindor."
A puzzled look was on his face.
"Never seen you before..." His green eyes widened at me.
"Well. You know, I keep myself to myself."
He smiled and looked out of the window. I brushed my hair out of my brown eyes, which were lined with black kohl. Most people would say I resembled a goth but I don't think so. I'm anything from it. I pulled a note pad out of my bag and began to doodle. Even though I was a witch, I was fascinated by art and graphics. I put my ball-point pen to paper and began to doodle. I looked up and noticed Harry looking at me. I smiled and resumed doodling. The compartment door slid open and in walked Neville Longbottom.
“Hiya Harry.” Neville said.
“Hi.. Neville...” Harry muttered back.
“Hiya Becky.” Neville said to me. I waved back, indicating I had noticed him. “How’ s your grandmother?”
“She’s ok. Yours?”
Mine and Neville’s grandparents knew each other, so I’ve known Neville before I started Hogwarts. Like Neville, I also lived with my grandmother. But not because my parents were ill, it was because my parents were, and iIstill think they are, Death Eaters. My grand mother found out about them and snatched me away from them whilst I was still young. No one knew about this. Not even Chloe. It’s a secret I wish no one will ever know. I also shared another secret. A secret so terrifying... This was the reason I didn’t want to return to Hogwarts.
Neville and I were embraced in an hour long conversation before he left. I had noticed Harry had fallen asleep. I’d never realised how good looking he was until this day on the train. I tried to imagine what it would be like if me, Rebecca Shaw, befriending Harry Potter. But surely, he wouldn’t want me as a friend?
*
The journey from Kings Cross took ages, but now I feel even more nervous about actually being at our destination. I left the train and hurried off to find a carriage up to the castle. But I was too slow for Harry to catch up with me.
“Sorry I dosed off back on the train. You can come share a carriage with me, Ron and Hermione if you like?” My heart skipped a beat.
“Um... Ok...” I stuttered out at him.
I walked up to the carriage with him. Ron and Hermione were already sat in, and they were bickering.
“Ron... Hermione... This is Becky... I thought it would be nice if she come and sat with us...” Harry said. Nice. That word makes it sound as if he only asked me out of pity.
“Yeah. Of course. Hi, I’m Ron.” I smiled at him and smiled at Hermione. I thought it would be a sensible thing not to say anything on the way up to the castle. Ron and Hermione resumed their bickering. Rain lashed down on the sides of the carriages and I was dreading the moment we got out.
That time came and once inside the Entrance Hall, we all resembled drown rats. Harry smile at me again. We walked side by side into the Great Hall, and my infamous butterflies returned.
“Well see you.” I told him as I began to sit down on my own near the end of the table.
He looked at me.
“No. Come sit with us.” He tugged on my robes as I began to get back up. Dumbledore began with his speech and finally the feast began. All the first years were looking gob smacked when the food appeared out of thin air. This by far was the best beginning to the year. I realised I had made a new friend in Harry and Hermione. I got the impression that when I first met her in the carriage that she disliked me but I was wrong.
Dumbledore finished his last speech and it was time for bed. We all made out way back up to the Grffindor common room.
“Becky. You can come share a dormitory with us this year if you want? There’s a spare bed...” Hermione told me. I took her up on the offer. Harry wished me good night and disappeared out of sight. I walked up the girls stairs and finally found the dormitory. I lay back on the bed and thought about that nights events... One thing troubled me. Why were they being so ‘nice’ to me. Why were they befriending me? Why were they befriending a werewolf?
