Grub June 27th, 2006, 8:24 am Here's something I've been working on. It's up to about 30 images so far(isn't done yet, of course.) Admins may feel free to convert them to links, but it's easier to read this way. Doesn't break the flow.
Also, the style evolves as the story goes on. This is my first try at a comic of sorts and I guess I'm just trying to solidify my technique.
Voldemort has taken over Hogwarts after winning a battle from earlier in the story. This included the death of most members of the Order of the Phoenix, leaving the DA, Aberforth, Lupin, Mr. Weasley, and a scare few others to stop Voldemort.
Voldemort has stolen Dumbledore's(poorly drawn and quickly removed) hat from Albus' grave, 'living out' his dream as Hogwarts headmaster.
The sextet, after recovering from the last battle, is making one last desperate effort to kill He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Only one horcrux remains at this point and Harry knows exactly where it is. Those occlumency and legilimency lessons he took from Aberforth came in handy after all.

Languish June 27th, 2006, 11:14 am y'know, i like these. there's something very atmospheric about them...i'm no artist so i can't explain it. also i really like the pictures with the view of the tower from below.
guad June 27th, 2006, 11:35 am Ohh, that looks really good. As Languish says, very atmospheric.
The perspectives are so cool
sholeigh June 27th, 2006, 7:08 pm I really enjoyed that. I like the blurring you've used on some characters so we know who's talking and where the focus is, and the lightning from the tower scene is very powerful.
Love it :tu: and look forward to seeing more :agree:
lurvmedespair June 27th, 2006, 8:01 pm These are really good! Well done :tu: I look forward to seeing more. I'd love to see how you think the series will play out, in pictures. I especially liked the views from the side (I know there's a word for this, but I've forgotten it!) when Luna's speaking, and the lightning from the tower.
Grub June 27th, 2006, 11:14 pm The pics will slow down in frequency because I'm spending more time making them look good.

Grub July 3rd, 2006, 3:46 pm Thanks for bumping it :)
I'm glad you're enjoying it. Yes, I particularly like the approaching hogwarts drawing myself :) I'm really proud of the lighting in that one.
Okay, here comes #47 right atcha. Many more to come

lurvmedespair July 4th, 2006, 8:50 am Ooh, I wanna know what happens! And that last one, of Ginny's eye, is really good. That one, the one of them going up to Hogwarts and the one with Voldemort shooting the lightning scar (the sixth from the bottom of the first lot), they're all my favourites so far, definitley.

I was afraid that'd happen :P
See, I'll be the first to admit that I have way more experience with... drawing men. Simply because I'm a guy.
So.. Ginny and Hermione kinda look alike(although if I wanted to be lazy, I could just say that it's a symmetric mirrored dualism metaphor that represents the cross-linked relationship between Ron and Harry + Ginny and Hermione with two 'tangents' hooking up with two members of the same family and this symbolism influences the.. er, whatever,) but Ginny has straighter, lighter hair(and it is shorter.) She also has freckles and has a different nose(I actually gave Hermione Jo's in the recent pics.) And her eyes aren't as round. And she is wearing a Ginny shirt. Hermione has a dress.
However, they both have brown eyes (why oh why did you do that, J.K.? Oh, right, the symmetric mirrored dualism that represents the cross-linked relationships between - ah.. aHHHH!!!)
But anyway, glad you like them :)
As long as people will keep viewing them, I'll keep making them.
Stay tuned :D
lurvmedespair July 4th, 2006, 9:39 am No, I did actually mean to put Hermione. I'm just used to writing Ginny at the moment. Sorry about that! But yeah, I'll carry on viewing them, you'd best not stop making them! :D
Maraudian July 5th, 2006, 5:24 pm  Hermione was doing the "George Washington Crossing the Delaware" thing!
Okay... Not so funny... But I thought it was, especially as she's British...
Grub July 5th, 2006, 8:03 pm  Hermione was doing the "George Washington Crossing the Delaware" thing!

Heh, I didn't really think about that parallel. However, she isn't the only one "doing the delaware" as you call it. Ginny is on the front side of the boat.
If you laid out where everyone is on the boat like in a floor plan, it looks like this.
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1231/behindthescenes13qy.png
Whereas I was sort of joking about symbology before, I'm actually serious in this case.
On the left half of the boat, you have the original trio, comprised of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. On the right side of the boat, you have the Other Trio. Together they make Dumbledore's army.
On the top side of the boat (from the top-down view) you have the "Chosen Ones."
Also on the left side of the boat, you have The Soul Mates. The female sides of this section are standing on both sides of the boat. The male sides sit right across from one another, although each one is slightly nearer to the Female Soul Mate they are connected to. Also take note that I numbered the characters on the boat like that purposely. The Other Trio is upside-down in relation to The Original Trio.
Together they're riding across the Lake, which is a metaphor for the past 6 books, the journey that these people have taken together.
Which is of course why before the journey across the lake starts, Voldemort shoots out a green lightning bolt. Everyone can see it when it happens, including the creatures of the forest(specifically the centuars, which is why there is one in that shot.)
There's more here, but it'd take up a lot of space.
Quick summary: I like imagery :)
Maraudian July 5th, 2006, 11:55 pm Hm, that's interesting. I like it.
Ginny, Neville, and Luna aren't the only Dumbledore's Army members - though I think you meant the ones at the Ministry of Magic battle, the ones who have basically proven themselves, and missed the meetings most.
And Neville and Luna aren't going to be connected - J. K. Rowling said this ages ago, but if it's your vision I guess it doesn't matter.
Also, Voldemort in Dumbledore's hat. I thought this was funny, too, because Dumbledore's the sort of guy who I would think had funny hats... Voldemort in Dumbledore's hat...
Grub July 6th, 2006, 2:15 am And Neville and Luna aren't going to be connected - J. K. Rowling said this ages ago, but if it's your vision I guess it doesn't matter.
They aren't connected other than the fact that they're the odds one out. :)
EDIT: Ok! July 9th. Here are a few I've been doing these past several days. Note that you'll see some legilimency conversation. Don't worry, you'll notice it when you see it.

Grub July 17th, 2006, 5:12 pm I have to admit, drawing over and over again like this can get a wee bit exhausting. Phew :D

Grub July 17th, 2006, 8:46 pm He looks like my grandad! :rotfl: Looking forward to seeing how my grandad's gonna save the world ;)
Well, let's just say that he feels how he looks after several months of hunting horcruxes, getting the snot beat out of him loads of times, nearly dying from falling, getting cursed, and getting crushed, nearly having his soul ripped out, and having others die around him.
It's not unusual in real life to start looking really worn out after that sort of thing :)

They're not even inside they castle yet, are they? There's a lot to do.
All the same, I'm doing as much as I can. I could go faster, but I want to keep the quality level up.
Go Grandad Potter!
lurvmedespair July 17th, 2006, 9:20 pm Well, I'd rather have good quality slowly than them all in one sitting and being, quite frankly, rubbish, if it's all the same with you ;) Good job on them so far, again. (Flattery gets you everywhere!)

Grub August 22nd, 2006, 3:58 pm Well, I've been thinking recently ..
Quite a lot happens in between the point you've last seen and right before the enterance to the great hall. At this rate, it would take an eternity. I'm thinking about giving people a recap of what happens "in-between" and then take it from there. After all, it is the final battle, not the "final battle plus everything that happens in the castle before the final battle" :)
What do you think?
lurvmedespair August 22nd, 2006, 6:22 pm Do whatever you feel is best, Grub. It would be nice if this didn't drag out too long ... it's not really faair on you. Looking forward to the next update, though. :)

FBAWTFT August 27th, 2006, 2:37 pm WOW! I really love these...they're fab! I think they are getting better and better. :D
Grub September 12th, 2006, 3:44 am Ok, I've been thinking about how to handle this. Make it really detailed? Write a full-out story describing what happens until the final battle?
I decided just to sum things up. Remember, these are the bare-bones essentials. As Rowling says, "there are stories between the lines," but that's not what this summary is about. There's not a bunch of depth. Just fills you in on what has been happening(there might be even more describing past story events than present ones.) So don't expect a lot. IF someone just dies, a lot more happens than just them falling to the ground and nothing happening afterwards. There's a lot to write and I want to get this summary done :)
Basically, here's what happens.
The sextet goes inside.
Ginny and Harry spot ambush.
Harry prevents ambush.
Sextet fights Death Eaters.
Sextet begins running towards Great Hall.
Fight more death eaters.
Stopped by Bellatrix.
Bellatrix removes all the sextet's wands and knocks them into a wall. All of them are dazed, except for Neville.
He gets up and jumps an unexpecting Bellatrix. Bellatrix doesn't instinctively react to a muggle attack.
As she is struggling with him, she is firing off spells all over the place(missing Neville of course.)
She tries aiming an avada kedavra at Neville as well. She misses and the avada kedavra heads for Hermione. Ron, in a desperate act of sacrifice and eyeblink-quick reflexes, steps in front of it. Hermione drops to his side as Luna and Ginny stare at Ron open-mouthed.
Neville starts beating the ever-loving you-know-what out of Bellatrix.
Bellatrix is, after several seconds, completely unconscious, but Neville keeps smashing into her head with his fists in animalistic fury.
Harry only barely holds him back and tells him to save her for what surely lies ahead in her future(*coughcoughpossiblydementorscoughcough*)
He finally accepts, but not before picking up his wand and giving her a petrificus totalus and kicking her head in one more time for good measure.
Ron is alive, but just barely. He isn't moving, but his heart is still very faintly beating(as earlier on in the story, the killing curse that hit the death eater from HBP did not actually kill him. It only seemed so in the heat of battle.)
Bellatrix's goal wasn't to kill Ron, but Neville. Since she didn't really mean it(same as with the other unforgiveables,) Ron lives.
Hermione decides to stay behind and take care of him.
Neville knows a way to heal him and has to hurry to Snape's storeroom.
Harry gives him the invisibility cloak.
Just as he does, Death Eaters come out of nowhere and shoot killing curses at the Sextet.
Harry, Neville, and Hermione(with Ron) just barely dodge them.
Luna can't react fast enough.
She dies.
The Quintet quickly sends stunning spells at the death eaters and disables them. Before Harry has time to even decide to be shocked or stunned or sad, his scar explodes in searing pain, as if he was being Crucio'd (This is from an earlier part of the story when Harry finds out that the dark curse which connects him to Voldemort has been in him for so long that it has been slowly infecting him with a sort of magical virus that will kill him if he can't kill Voldemort or "unplug" the connection.)
In a trembling voice, Neville tells Harry and Ginny to go as he cannot follow them. Harry(and presumably Hermione, Ginny, and Neville, although Harry doesn't see it) gives a long look at Luna's empty expression.
Once again Harry feels the same rage he felt two years ago, but he is able to control it moreso than then.
Harry hugs Hermione and Neville goodbye.
Harry sets off to the Great Hall with Ginny, feeling an enormous amount of purpose now.
Along the way, they run into Snape. Just as Ginny is about to fire a hex at him, Harry forces her wand to point at the ground. (There was a period during the story where Harry is stuck with Severus Snape. During this journey, Snape and Harry come to know each other more and find out that they have a lot in common. Snape, at the end, tells Harry why Dumbledore trusted him. As it turns out, it really was Snape's greatest regret when he found out that, ultimately, he was the one to blame for killing Lily and James. Snape may be a petty git, but he's not a murderer(especially back when he was still very young and more emotionally sensitive than now.) Harry and Snape, after this, hate each just a tad bit less. Snape helps Harry find Hufflepuff's cup and destroy it before insisting that he must return to Voldemort's side before he gets suspiscious. Harry and Snape are allies from then on, although certainly not best friends.)
Harry tells Ginny about Snape's true allegiance, about how Snape was stoppering Dumbledore's death from the curse that killed his hand, and about how Snape only killed Dumbledore at Dumbledore's orders. Harry then tells Snape about Ron and how Neville is planning on fighting off dozens of death eaters to get into Snape's storeroom. Snape says that he'll assist Neville in accquiring the right ingredients while fighting Death Eaters and try to heal Ron in time.
Snape leaves. Harry and Ginny take the final couple of minutes they require to reach the front doors of the Great Hall.
And that's that. When I finally get back to drawing, this is where I'll start.
sholeigh September 14th, 2006, 7:34 pm Thanks for the heads up :)
Gwenhwyfar28 January 14th, 2007, 2:35 am they're very filmic almost like movie storyboards ...very cool
Undrhil July 7th, 2007, 7:08 am Shouldn't ...
Shouldn't Luna's face show abjact horror or fear? It shouldn't be emotionless or expressionless if she was killed by the AK.
Also, I laughed at the image on the first page. I like to think it was Luna (in her best hippy impression) saying "I love you, guys!"
This is very good. I look forward to seeing and reading more of the story as you see it.
