Is it just me or do the Harry Potter video games seem a bit easy? In my opinion they need to be far more intricate and need to include tougher challenges. A little more plot would also enhance the games. I know the games are meant for children but they are really disappointing the older readers and appreciators that still play video games. As pathetic as that sounds, I think something needs to be done. Feel free to share your opinions and beliefs.

I think the ga,mes are just right because I know if they are too hard I'll just set them aside and not complete them, I liked the difficulty of #3 best because it seemed to be a bit harder but number 4 was unbelievibly easy, that game was a major dissapointment to me :(

hey. yeah i thought the games are easy...
i have the gameboy advanced version... of i think the philosopher's stone... i can like complete the whole game in like a couple of hours if not less than that!

The first two were OK, a bit easy, but they were fun for what they were.

POA I loved. Again it was a bit easy, but I loved the atmosphere and I loved that I was able to roam around the school and school grounds, ride on the Hippogryph's and so on. It was not only a fun game to play, but it felt like I was playing a online gaming/MMOG a bit...but without the other people.

I have GOF but I have yet to play it, but I hear bad things (not as fun as POA)

I thought they were all pretty easy. And they just seem crappy in some ways. Poorly done, maybe rushed...

I think I'd enjoy them more if I were younger. I've only played the ones for gameboy advance and I didn't really care for the first two but POA was pretty cool. I went through it sort of quickly but it had a cool feel to it.

I played the first two Harry Potter games on playstation, terrible graphics but it was fun and challenging in parts.

I have PoA on computer and I love it. Just like Neptune I love the atmosphere, how you can explore and how their are lots of students walking around the school (so it doesn't just feel the trio are the only students). The graphics are also stunning.

I have GoF and it definetly is not as fun as PoA. It's broken into levels and you can't explore the castle at all. The graphics are alright though.

Chamber of Secrets for the PC is indubitoubly the best Harry Potter game out there. It really has no equal. It has a lot of freedom, which is one of the things that makes it the best of the series.

I think more plot is needed. It would be best to follow the story of another wizard or witch besides Harry & Co., and be able to create whole new plots without worrying too much about the book's story line.

They are also very linear. To have a Harry Potter world version of the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, I would gladly pay upwards of three hundred bucks. People who've played Oblivion will know what I'm talking about! :D

Or better yet, a Harry Potter MMORPG! (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) (Like Everquest, Asheron's Call, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, etc.)

Game 3 was cool. It took me freakin forever to beat that last scene wear the patronu had to cross the lake. I am really not a fan of 4. It wasn't too difficult. I liked the idea that you really got to explore the castle in three. That would have been cool if you could do that in four.

I really don't like any of the games at all. They are definitely targeted to children. I wish everyone would realize that not all HP fans are children. It actually seems to me that there are more teen and adult fans than children fans. I hear Warner Brothers is planning to target an older audience with the HP merchandise they will release around the time of the OotP movie release, so maybe they'll also make the OotP video game for an older audience as well.

I wished ever since the HP games were out that they would allow the license to be handed to Square Enix, the makers of the Final Fantasy games. Given their attention to detailed plot lines, fantastic graphics and amazing opening sequences I always felt that an RPG Harry Potter game from that company could be simply amazing. Given how the Japanese also love to add heaps of side quests, secret characters and longetivity into their games and make them for ALL AGES, ala FF VII on the Playstation, if they wanted a truly great RPG based in the HP world they could look no further than Square.
Damn, I'm already salivating at the thought of how big and explorable they could make Hogwarts castle and it's grounds be, given their vast villages and dungeons in the final fantasy games. 20 plus hours spent completing those sections alone I'd wager.

i think they're really easy and i hated GOF because you couldnt walk around Hogwarts and do whatever you wanted.
My favourate is POA because i really enjoyed walking around the grounds and inside Hogwarts- i love doing that.
Im hoping OOTP will be alot harder and be able to walk around again.

I have two of the games on X-Box and i found them both to be pretty easy and somewhat repetitive. They're fun, but the tasks could be a bit more challenging. I don't know if i'd buy a third game, though.

I get annoyed with the first two I have on my brother's low-tech playstation (the only platform my parents would let me buy games for at that time). They are blocky, and it's a bit hard to manipulate Harry. Now I have the second two on PC. The third one is a bit easy, but I love it all the same because it's just so... I can't think of a word. So human, I guess. Well, it's not human, but it's not the kind of game that you just go around blasting things out of the way. It has meaning to it. Not much, but... you should play the game to get the idea. The forth has lost it's charm. It's not that good. Also, I can't get past the Second Task.

I agree. The games aren't getting much better, and GOF for Gamecube has lost it's touch. POA on gamecube was okay. I had the first two for PC, and I would stay up all night playing it. Now, I can beat the new games so quickly, it kind of bores me. By the way, the second task can be tricky. Avoid hitting things, and go for boosting rings whenever you can.

It's a game made for the fans to be bought by the fans. The video game makers don't have a particularly high budget and as a result, is probably not going to be a very good game. Of course, I don't have high expectations for them anyway. Movie video games (save a few games like Goldeneye for N64) are usually bad.

I have all 4 movie games and QWC for the PC, and have to say that QWC is my favourite, because I can play that over and over again without it becoming repetitive. Out of the main 4 I would probably pick PoA as my favourite, although it was a little too easy. GoF on the other hand is a bit too hard (I can't get past the second task!), and spells are a bit awkward to aim, and controlling the characters' movement also takes a bit of getting used to.

I have CoS and GoF for Game Cube and I love the CoS one but the GoF one is really hard and I've been stuck on this one part since I got it for Christmas! ha ha! But I've also played the PoA one and that ones pretty good. It's neat to see how on each game the characters become more and more life like looking.

Solaris23

Ironically, the game QWC for PS2, the one game that is not tied in to either the book plotlines or the movies, is perhaps the most satisfying game I have played that is related to HP. It has a good difficulty setting that actually gets more harder the longer you play, the stadiums you can unlock look cool and there are many unlockable secrets within the game for you to try to get. The graphics were quite well done too for a HP game and the soundtrack, although kiddy, was quite well done. Particularly loved the opera type music at the beginning and the whoe FMV of the players getting ready in the locker room before zooming out onto the field. It actually gets me excited for a HP game than any of the others did.
Here's to wishful thinking they will bring out a QWC 2 for PS3. With the graphic capabilities and the AI for the opposing players available it would be heaven for a Quidditch nut like myself.

I never played them nor any other viedo game in my life. My parents have this thing about viedo games, they will not let me even near, no matter how much I protest just to see what it's like. It looks pretty cool and relistic, I espicially like how the GoF one looks.

I've played the first three games and the Quidditch World Cup game and I think they were made fairly easy because you'll have alot of younger children playing them since alot of younger children watch the movies and the movies inspire the games. But I think they're fun to play on occasion and I'm actually schocked that I haven't bought the GoF game yet.

I have only tried playing the PC version of GoF. I thought it was hard, at least it was hard and slow for me to move around during the levels which resulted in my inability to work the spells like I should have been able to. And dying faster.

I have all 5 games and I have passed the first 3 and Quidditch World Cup but am stuck with Goblet of Fire. I'm not even up to the first Triwizard Task and I've had the game 9 months nearly!! And lots of you guys said its the easiest game but to me its the hardest. I think this is a good place for this:

Assuming all games released could have today's graphics quailty, which would you say is "the best". Rank them in order

1. My vote for best game is "Chamber of Secrets" for PS2 hands down! I love the format, the freedom, the surprise additional games! I love discovering secrets! I would even keep it with the overly long load times. By far the best!

2. Second best is Sorcerer's Stone. Great game too, just had some bugs in it... if graphics were equal, this is almost a tie with COS.

3. I did not care for the whiny-ness of the trio in POA, and it was too short!

4. the format of GOF really stunk! I wanted to run around the castle and explore! I don't like how the characters are so far away. The difficulty in some levels was so much that it wasn't as fun.

They certainly aren't marketing to me now!

Another question: What do you look for in a game?

I've only played CoS and GoF, but out of the two, GoF. Mainly because I got stuck earlier on in the game in CoS (stupid Lockhart, making me do his course that you can't really do) and I'm almost towards the end in GoF. But I'm stuck i that too, so I gave up in that after 3 months of trying, although I am persistant, I'm not patient) but still, I got quite far:D

I play on GameBoy Advance. I wasn't crazy over PoA, and I thought GoF was okay. But I like SS and CoS the best. They're both good. I think they're more challenging and entertaining. PoA was too simple and had less-than-stellar graphics. GoF was easier than the first two, also, but not as much as PoA.

Chamber of Secrets for the PC.

I've always had a dream about making an epic freeform Harry Potter game.

Basically, you'd start off at the very beginning, getting the letter from Hogwarts. Right from the start, you can actually grab one of the letters flowing into the house, open it, and read it. This would demonstrate one of the game's biggest, if not THE biggest feature: Choice.

Every single thing you do can be done in multiple ways with multiple outcomes. You can play the story by the books, or you can do it your own way. If you want to be a -slytherin,- you can be(and it'd affect the story accordingly, I.E. different reactions from Voldemort, different friends, etc)

If you want to be an evil, rotten little jerk and destroy everything your parents and others died for, you can(although you'll get a really nasty ending.) It'd be a sort of .. day-by-day thing, although the clock would move faster than real time, and you could skip ahead to certain hours of the day if you wished(and go backwards in time with a time-turner if you could snag one.) Each day would have different classes, and small parts of the main story and sub-plots would be revealed in classes, between classes, during meetings with friends, etc.

If you want to have a different personality than Harry did in the books, you can. Instead of Hermione, Harry could be the bossy know-it-all Gryffindor. You might never go into Quidditch, but instead learn boatloads of information on the wizarding world, learn new spells, become a potions or magical creatures master, and all sorts of things. Do you want to sneak out of Hogwarts and travel to Godric's Hollow in Harry's first year? You can if you're very, very good. Want to see what Azkaban looks like? Become a very, very evil character and use an UC on someone else.

The game would have hundreds upon hundreds of hours of gameplay(like a extraordinarily long RPG,) and you could replay it after you finished it, perhaps attaining bonus items to use from the very start, such as the time turner, allowing you to replay -every- choice from beginning to end. Then, the game would have infinite replay value, with hundreds of thousands of different choices with dozens of variations to make throughout Harry's 7 year journey.

I have a similar game dream.

Like, you make your own character on the PC and interact with other real players online (I dont know what that's called, City of Heroes-like). And you learn your own spells by going to classes and reading library books and choosing the ones you like. It would be more than awesome if you had to trace the spell runes like in SS for PC.

That game would rock, plus the MONEY!!! and like, every fan would be satisfied even after all the books are read. Who needs book when you can make your own role playing game book! Who's a better character than yourself!

Olus, this is lik, totally possible. I can see this happening. And if it doesnt, I'll do it myself! ;)

BTW, my fave game was PoA for Gamecube, than SS for PC. GoF sucked so bad! OMG OMG OMG

CoS for PC. I'm STILL finding new secrets, and I've had it since it came out.

For example, in the Spongify challenge, if you cast Alohamora on the owl that subtly flies over, you open a room with four beans and a chest. I was just randomly moving my wand around in the sky and it targeted the owl.

Well I have played PS, COS and GoF, not sure why I haven't played PoA maybe I'll have a go of it one day.

Well I did like the first one, I got it for the PC and I still have it :) I sometimes go back and have a play of it, I just love swooshing round the quiddich pitch. I can never seem to find all the card to which annoys me.
I think the CoS game was my fave, there was just so much freedom and you could actually go look round the castle when you wanted. I also got this one for the PC. The only think is I never got to finish t as it got damaged in my brothers bedroom :grumble: never got it again though.
GoF was way to easy, the graphics where good but the last battle with Voldermort was really lacking excitement and well difficulty.

CoS for PS2, without a doubt. It was the first HP-game I bought, and walking around at Diagon Alley and Hogwarts as Harry will be the closest I'll ever come to actually be in the wizarding world. I've played (all PS2):
Chamber of Secrets
Goblet of Fire
Quidditch World Cup

1. Chamber of Secrets:
I really liked this game and I wish they had kept the engine for GOF. The freedom is great, and the level of immersion is fantastic. I hated the lack of populace to Hogwarts though. Flying was awesome.

2. Goblet of Fire:
I have never been fond of this engine (EA's Lord of the Rings, Atari's Demon Stone, Lucasarts Star Wars Ep. III) but is was enjoyable. I loved the task levels. I really likes the movie likeness used over the cartoonish installments (though I liked them too) It was too short though.

3. Quidditch was a decent game. It really did a good job of simulating Quidditch and the idea of playing professional teams was great. As were the various themed pitches.
But the game was shallow and repetitive and got boring after the umpteenth match.

Anyone who's played the X-Box Chamber of Secrets:

The Slytherin Match is it not the most aggrevating thing you've ever played?
I played the PS2 version and though it was harder than the Hufflepuff/Ravenclaw matches I still did it no problem.
But MAN, the X-Box version is ridonkulous. I must have sat there for an hour dumbfounded.

Ill be honest, i dont like them.

I liked Chamber of Secrets, but that's just because of the free-roam element, and i wish they had carried it on onto now when we can make better games. PoA was ok, just a little weird somehow. I didnt like GoF at all because of the level based gameplay.

I really hope they go back to the free-roam, flying broomstick, go to lessons approach!

I liked "Prisoner of Azkaban" the best in the Electronic Arts PC game series. First time through is fairly challenging till you get all the hidden places figured out and after that it makes a good mindless shooter to relax with.
Game 5 "Goblet of Fire" was very challenging the first time through especially if you tried to "Master the Magic" which unlocks some pretty cool bonus information. The hardest spell to master was "duclifors" in this game.

I want to buy one for PC, but I dont know which. I already have the first, I thought it was okay. Can you guys help me? Especially Leanne, since you have them all :)

I have all the games for PC but I have not played the Quidditch World Cup game yet. I do play all the others from time to time and am currently playing POA for some relaxation.

My favorite game is Prisoner of Azkaban because it's a well thought out game but I also liked Goblet of Fire mainly due to the fact that it was Multi-Player capable and a lot of fun to play that way. If they make Order of the Phoenix a combination of GOF & POA they would really have a winner on their hands. Free Roaming of the castle & grounds and the ability to play in multi-player. Have to keep my fingers crossed for that. LOL

There is a Demo of "Gobelt of Fire" available so you could try it before you buy it. You will get to play the fist level of the game but that should be more than enough to get a feel for how it plays. Be sure your computer meets the specs for the game they are a little high.
(See below for specs)
There is also a playable demo for Quidditch World Cup available if you wanted to give that one a try also. Most computers can play this game.
You can pick up a copy of both demos from my site, just click the link in my signiture.

GOF Specs
If your system doesn't meet the below specifications you may not be able to play Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire.

Windows 2000 or XP
1.2GHz Pentium III or comparable processor w/ 256MB RAM
A video card with at least 32MB of video memory with DirectX 9.0c (or higher) compatible drivers, supporting one of the following chipsets: Nvidia GeForce (or greater) or ATI Radeon 7500 (or greater)
At least 1.1GB of available hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (or higher) installed
A DirectX 9.0c (or higher) compliant sound card"

I also have all of the games for PC and if you are having trouble in any particular part let me know or visit mt site for a walkthrough.

I don't think I was able to cast Duclifors even once.
I mastered most spells and unlocked most cards except two.

I only have two of the games, but I think that they could be just a little bit harder, but not too hard because then a lot of people (including me) would probably get frustrated and just put them aside and move on to something that is a bit easier. My mom just got the Goblet Of Fire game earlier and i started playing it and found it was really easy...that one I know they could've made a little more challenging...I understand they're also for kids though so that's another reason I don't think that they should be all that hard.

I've played all of them, I believe. None of them are outrageously fun. Something like Harry Potter canot be made into a movie that well, let alone a video game in my opinion, without making someone unhappy. Not the biggest videogame player, but I have Quidditch World Cup on PC. It is good.

I've played all of the hp video games for PC, except GoF. I have found them all some what easy, and get bored with them after a few days. I don't mind playing them, they can be fun for awhile, but I think that the games could be slightly more challenging.

I've played Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire on PS2.

I liked Chamber of Secrets because of, like someone already said, the free-roam element. I liked how you could find the missing items and return them to their owners and get points and stuff for it. Plus, in Chamber of Secrets you are (for the most part) in Hogwarts so you get to explore all of the secret passages which I enjoyed. I also like most of the tasks that you had to complete, although I absolutely hated the spider task:no: It took me forever to complete that one. But altogether I did enjoy the COS video game.:tu:

As of now, I am at the Third Task in Goblet of Fire. I really only like GOF because it's 1-2 players and that way my sister and I don't fight over who gets to play first and so on. But, otherwise it's just okay. I liked being able to just roam around in COS and I wish they could have put that in the GOF too. I also don't like how you are pretty much always outside and never in the castle in this game (even though GOF revolves around the Triwizard Tournament, I think you should be allowed in the castle anyway:D ) And also like someone already said, this game is really easy. I was actually quite surprised because Chamber of Secrets took me a lot longer, and I needed cheat codes for that one:whistle:

I'm hoping that Order of the Phoenix will be better and a little more challenging.

I've only played one Harry Potter video game, and it did seem pretty easy, I'll have to say. I probably don't have the right to judge, but from what little I've played, yes, it is a little too easy.

I hated GoF, 'cause I bought a non-original version, and it didn't show the movies, and it got stuck 5 times while I was playing. And well, I didn't like the idea of making HP game a somekind of RPG with cards, level selecting and everything :/ it wasn't how I imagined the game.
About POA - my favourite HP game (: not very hard, not very interesting, but it's got something in it for me.
CoS - quite good too. The Quidditch was quite annoying for me, but still - I liked it, I'm replaying it now.
PS - maybe it' just my version, but the language selection sucked. if I wanted English subtitles, I had to have them speaking in French. If I wanted them to speak in English, I had to read the subtitles in Russian :/ anw, if it wasn't for the languages, I would've liked it. Just the troll thing was very annoying, I stopped playing the game after Herbology. but in the end, I beated old Voldy. the final battle was quite interesting.

The 1st and 4th games for the PS2 really sucked for me:td:. I liked the COS and the POA for the PS2. I enjoyed collecting Witches and Wizard cards in COS (though I still haven't found them all yet:shrug: ), opening desks looking for beans was fun for me, and I liked flying on the broom. The POA for the PS2 is my favorite:tu:. I liked changing characters and throwing dungbombs :elaugh: at other people, and the weather changing throughout the game was nice too.

They're okay. Sure the first two are a bit easy, but that doesn't bother me that much. I like winning after all. I really liked the third one (on PS2). I loved being able to change characters and not be Harry all the time. In fact, I was only Harry when I absolutely had to.

I have finished all the games on PS2, I found that the 2nd one was the easiest. My fav one was the 3rd one since you could be Ron or Hermione or Harry, and you got to wonder around the school, but in the 4th one you had no choice, you did the task and then you would go onto the next one but then you could go back and get what ever you forgot.

PoA is the best game by far, and GoF is the worst. The fact that you can't explore the castle realy annoys me, and the gameplay gets too repetitive. Running around , levitating rocks and killing boring creatures loses its shine after a bit.

They certainly are not great games but if you pick them up at bargain prices you get your money's worth.

Probably my favourite is CoS on the PC, which has more to do with the debug mode than the actual game, although the game in itself is a lot of fun. PoA was reasonably good particularly when I would intentionally have Ron kicked by Buckbeak. It was disappointing that GoF was not more free-roaming but at the same time it was well presented - I particularly enjoyed Ron and Hermione squabbling over beans :p

I've got all four for Gamecube. The first two were good but they were a bit too easy. I enjoyed them, though. Azkaban was by the far the best with everything you had to do and such but Goblet was the worst. I hate how you couldn't explore the castle or anything and it took me a while before I understood what the beans were actually for.

I think they should just make a Harry Potter RPG game where you create your own student and attend Hogwarts...like Harry Potter meets the Sims 2. Either that, or an MMORPG. It would sell way more than the ones based on the movies.

I'm really looking forward to the Order of the Phoenix game, because it's going to be so much better than Goblet of Fire....we get to explore the castle again! :D

And there are parts where you get to play as Fred and George (their finest moment :D ), Siruis (his last moment :upset: ) as he duels Bellatrix and Dumbledore in his duel with Voldemort...but no playing as Ron and Hermione. But that's alright, we get more charcters to play with ^___^

I'd like to see how the D.A. scenes turn out, I think it's be strange having to teach the others to do things...

And there are levels where you can explore Grimmauld Place, St Mungos and the Ministry of Magic as well. It's going to be the best game of the series IMO.

I've always thought they should make a Harry Potter RPG game...they did with Lord of the Rings (The Third Age) but that was done pretty badly, and the battle system was just a rip-off of Final Fantasy X's...

I think it would be fun, once the series has ended and all the series games have been made, to make a HP RPG...maybe by Square-Enix, I agree, they make fantastic games. MAybe the game would be the trio, or maybe the Dumbledore and other older characters, travelling through the storyline of the series. It'd be so fun to play:D

I think that the Harry Potter games are very fun to play, but don't last very long entertainment wise because you tend to do the same things in each level. Personally, my favorites were 'The Sorcerer's Stone' and 'The Chamber of Secrets' for Gamecube. I also purchased 'Prisoner of Azkaban' and 'Goblet of Fire' for Xbox, but didn't like them because they didn't have the Free Roam mode as in the first two. They also just started with lots of action, which I didn't like because the first two had some very short training levels. I think those made the game easier. Alright, that's what I thought of the HP games.

I got really annoyed with GoF on PSP because I couldn't get past the blast-ended skrewts in the 3rd task. I found most of the shield, dark detectors, gargoyles, got gold on 1st and 2nd task but for some reason I'd get to the skrewts in the maze and could kill only one. My niece (who's 14) beat the stage for me, and we beat voldemort on the first go. (it was the only time she's ever been better at games than me so she hasnt let me forget it!)

PoA was quite easy - got 100% after only a few days. CoS was hard and PS was average. I would like the games to be more true to the story, though, otherwise pretty good overall. I'l be buying OOTP when it's released.

My fave game was PoA it was just better than the other ones i liked that fact that you could play as all of the trio and not just harry.

PS was ok but it was a bit dodgy in some ways like, the graphics were bad and some of it was just weird, it as too easy and i completed it in one day. but i think the graphics werent that bad considering that i have the game on playstation 1 and not 2 because they didnt exist when that game came out and most PS1 games have bad graphics.

CoS was alright though i think they missed a few things and i found those parts where you had to use expelliarmus on the gargoyles were a bit repetetive they should have thought of a more entertaining way to end the classroom task bits.

i think GoF was a bit of a disappointment, i didnt like the fact that you couldnt go where you wanted in the castle. and i didnt like the point of view that you played the game from...i like the ones where you can see whats in front of you and not a view point from the air. but i still loved the game and i have completed it 3 times since i got it.

The HP videogames are pretty pointless. The only one worth playing is CoS.

Agreed. I didn't find it as easy as some are saying. The graphics had just the right kind of darkness, and the secret rooms were beautifully hidden and it was satisfactory to reveal them. I needed a walthrough to complete the 99 secrets though:p !

PoA is very beautiful but even easier than CoS. GoF is not spell binding only binding. You have so little freedom. Btw along with the game, I reckon CoS the film is the best of the movie series too. Hope OOTP sets that score right-both game and film.

None of the games will be taken seriously by serious gamers, just as the films don't mean anything to Cinephiles. Even some snotty book readers find Harry Potter too popular to like and recommend. I guess I'm like that regarding music; I like discovering obscure gems of melody.

But the books for me are so wonderful, even OOTP. I'm going to read any Rowling book after Deathly Hallows.

I played the first game on PC and loved it, although it was fairly easy. The COS game on Xbox was great, I loved roaming the castle and flying around on a broomstick. Some challenges were actually hard, but there wasn't a lot of replay value aside from the fun of flying, or trying to collect all the chocolate frog cards. I have only played a few levels of GOF, but so far I don't like it at all. You don't have nearly enough control over what is going on, and it just isn't as fun. I have put it on the shelf and am now waiting for OoTP on Wii. That looks awesom

I played CoS on XBOX, which was cool that you got to freely go about the castle and fly around on the broomstick, but Harry Potter and the GOF wasn't what I expected it to be, you couldn't explore the castle as much, inside or out, and the levels are a bit confusing, but the graphics were great, each character was spot on.

I absolutely loved the Prisoner of Azkaban game. It's incredibly easy but I could just play it again and again. Exploring the castle is the best thing in the world (and I was also thrilled because I got to be Hermione). Every now and then I go back and play the game, though I usually beat it in two days. The Chamber of Secrets game comes in second, but I've got to agree with everyone on Goblet of Fire: it's just horrible! At first I was intruiged because it was multiplayer, but it's an all around boring game seperated into levels. And the worst part is that you can't explore the castle! I really hope that Order of the Phoenix will allow you to explore again.

They are fun, in the aspect that you are experiencing Harry Potter in a different way, by playing them as video games and seeing a different version of it. I felt that the games got easier and less of a challenge, which is a disappointment for gamers such as us. They lacked some of the mystery and thrill that is Harry Potter! I hope that when the Order of the phoenix game releases that it will provide more difficult levels and tasks.

There was a "rictusempra" spell in the PC Chamber of Secrets game which I still play some times. I likes the styles of the PC SS and CoS games much better than the styles of the games for the later movies. But the order of the phoenix games sounds like it's gonna be awesome! they say you'll get to explore much more of Hogwarts and if it's on the Wii you'll probably have some free hand spell casting! Also OotP happens to be my personal favorite of the books so far so the video game of that would have to be at least decent.

Ok, so I just completed this game for the first time and have a few questions:-

1: How can I concentrate on specific spells (jinxs) so that I can master each of them? (Doesn't seem to me in game like you choose what you cast)

2: Is there some kind of trick to finishing the three Tri-Wizard games quickly? (No matter how hard I try I can't get better than Bronze  )

3: How do you unlock set 6 in the 'cards'? (I think you have to master all the spells)

4: How the heck do you cast Avifors?

I have to admit I like and dislike this game, it's cool that you can play as all three characters, but it's a tad annoying you have the other two tagging along in the fame, I would've prefered choosing the character and then just palying with that one without the others... pity that solo play wasn't an unlockable bonus or something.

Kinda disappointed nothing gets unlocked when you beat Voldemort as well... nevermind though.

I have this game, and I have a bit of a problem too!
But I have one of the solutions to your problem.

To cast avifors, you have one person use wingardiam leviosa by lifting them in the air basically, and you cast a spell directly on the floating creature, black bats and mist should come out your wand. I think it's the x button, I'll go and check to confirm it, but try it because it comes in handy for one of the little Mad-Eye-Moody activities!

On the Dragon task, I'm constantly stuck on silver! But to get up from the bronze, you just have to make sure, you get ALL the rings of beans if possible, and at a nice time is cool too, but is not compulsory. Just make sure you get as much rings as poss. This is to move on to silver.

To get to gold is my only problem!

Probably wouldn't be so hard if the controls weren't reversed for up and down - pusing up makes you go down and vice versa... unless my controller is screwed anyway.

Ok, another quick question, does anyone know how the heck to cast a "Ducklifors" jinx? It's the only one I have a zero on right now.

Edit - Right then, got all the spells sorted, but still need four large shields (not the mini-shields) to have all of them.... still getting annoyed with the Tri-Wizard parts though, and still can't do better than bronze - you don't get shields or cards for getting silver or gold in those Tri-Wizard things do you? (Hope not or I'll never get 'em all, lol)

So far I have played Cos for Playstation, CoS for Playstation 2 (yes, they are two completely different games), and PoA for Playstation 2. I have had them all, but I lost Cos for PS, so I only still have the last two.
I actually like them, though they are a bit easy. My favorite is PoA. I wish they would stay closer to the plot, though.

I played Sorcerer's Stone (PC version) and beat it in a day. POA (for PS2) was harder and took me longer to beat. I find Qudditch World Cup to be an easy game, but I like to play it anyway. I never tried GOF because my video game magazine gave it a bad rating. However, I think that OOTP will be a very good game! I can't wait to play it! :D

In my opinion I think that Quidditch World Cup is one of the best HP games ranking along side PoA. Chamber of Secrets and Philosophers stone rank in second joint, and lastly of course... GoF..

The problem with HP games I think, is that the developers want to make it appeal to a wide audience and, whereas I'm sure they'd love to make a super hard and fancy RPG game for us all to revel in, they wouldn't because it wouldn't appeal to younger HP fans. Or that it would, but they would find it more difficult than experienced gamers.

On the other hand there are just tonnes of RPG gamers who aren't exactly HP fans, who would love a HP RPG, not because it's Harry Potter, but because they want a decent RPG game to mess about on and have fun with.

Order of the Phoenix, looks as if a balance has been struck. It looks purely brilliant and will probably become the best Harry Potter game so far. I read a preveiw in this months Offical PS2 mag, and they were raving about it, I just want to read a review of the full game! Didn't Jamie say he was going to post one up? Where is it!!

I love the fact that you can explore Hogwarts... fully! With no load screens! NONE! :D And for some system like a PS2 that is quite some acheivement! I love the fact that magic isn't just.... press button magic happens, and that you have to move your joystick in a certain way or...or... stuff. I looks brilliant and hopefully they'll make a great game for HBP.

And assuming Deathly Hallows is good.... action packed game ahead!

Can't say I've personally liked the Quidditch or 'flying' games in any of the Potter games, the flying through hoops thing just annoys the hell out me - can't really comment on Quidditch World Cup, I've purposely stayed away from it.

As of right now, my favourite Potter games are CoS and PoA, I like that you can play as each of the characters and can explore the Hogwarts castle and grounds, the only thing that disappoints me really is that when you play as one of the characters you get the other two tagging along and getting in the way, especially in battles - I'd much prefer to choose a character and then play the whole thing with them without the others tagging along, I'd do everything as Hermione then, lol. As much as I like GoF though, it's a much more annoying game to play in terms of the other characters getting it the way or doing things you don't want them to, especially when you're trying to master the individual jinxes - I think the graphics engine is much better on it though, and it's such a pity you didn't get the same freedom to explore the castle and grounds with it. I can't comment of Philosophers Stone yet since I don't have it, but will soon.

If I could make suggestion to the people who make these games I'd say bring back the freedom to explore the castle and grounds (and whatever environment they're in), make it possible to play the game with just one character (but be able to choose from Harry, Ron and Hermione) without the other tagging along, as well as with them tagging along.... I also liked the idea above of creating you're own character and building them up over time, that would be RPG at it's greatest in the Potter world. :)

Speaking of mods and patches, are there any of those things for the PC versions of the Potter games, either to improve gameplay or graphics, or just simply change something about them? (One thing I wish these games did was allow you to unlock different outfits for the characters, kind of like 'awards' for completeing certain tasks or beating certain bosses, that sort of thing).

I have never been a big fan of video games. I did play the PoA game once that came out, but other then that I haven’t played any of them. My brother has quite of few of the HP video games. After hearing about the new game for the Wii, I might give it a try…I’ll be neat to explore all of Hogwarts.

Finally played the PC versions of Philosophers Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban, and I have to say I liked them a lot... although with the latter two I'm very surprised at how different they are to the PS2 versions, it's almost like having completely different games.

Also played Goblet of Fire on PS2 and PC, and definitely prefer the PS2 version... the PC version suffers a LOT from the low resolution, and the controls are a bit of a pain at first - mostly though it's the resolution that lets it down, it's such a shame there's no option to change it like with the earlier games.

You're absolutely right, creating your own character would be fun. I htink it'd also be interesting to be one of the other students like Malfoy or Neville or somebody different. I was rather upset with GOF for the PC because you couldn't roam Hogwarts. POA would've been better indeed if the castle was bigger and there was more to explore.

Well I only played the computer games...but I thought they were pretty good. My favorite was the third one...but on all of them, something was wrong with them, I don't know if that was just bad luck...because on the first one, something got messed up in the Lumos challenge so I had to start over, and then in the second one I got stuck behind a fence somewhere that it was supposed to be impossible to go to...

But overall, I think they're pretty good.

I like CoS the best out of the PC games because you have freedom to roam the castle and that you can re-do the challenges. I also like how the quidditch is very easy. And the 'spongify' spell is really entertaining.

I also like the music a lot. Does anyone know how to put the music files into itunes, like you can with The Sims?

How do you think Chamber of Secrets compares with the other PC games?

I think that the first three (mostly CoS) are like Zelda games. (Except waaaaay easier)

You start out each level by learning a new spell, then you have to go through the level using that spell to solve puzzles.

In Zelda games you go halfway through the dungeon solving puzzles, until you get an item, and then you solve the other half of the dungeons puzzles using that item.

In CoS, you find bronze wizard cards to gain more lightning bolts (health).

In Zelda games, you find pieces of a heart to gain more hearts (health).

In HP games, you can use new spells to open up passages in Hogwarts to find secrets and sidequests.

In Zelda games, you can use new dungeon items to open up passages in the overworld to find secrets and sidequests

Oddly enough, I loved Quidditch World Cup. I wish they would do a sequel with more teams (not just the world cup teams, but also the Chudley Cannons and all those other teams that I forget). They say there'll be Quidditch in the HBP movie, so maybe there's hope?

OotP is a sandbox game, so it's really up to the player to determine how to have fun in it. Personally I like running around shooting at every student in sight.

Though looking for the members of the DA took up about 97% of the game. The other 3% was the DoM fight (and yeah, I'll admit, that was pretty terrible). Basically, the "story" bits of the OotP game are awful, but the world itself is brilliantly done, and there's a whole new sense of freedom.

Hopefully HBP keeps the same formula but improves the combat bits.

 I definitely agree. I love Lego Star Wars.

I'm definitely horrible at the HP video games though. Don't get me wrong; for a girl, I'm pretty flipping good at most things electronic, but Harry Potter games are just not my cup of tea. I got to the Library sneaking part in PS/SS on my computer, and after that I gave up.

You know: We should make a Harry Potter Guitar Hero! On the last level we could defeat Voldemort with the powerup of "expelliarmus!"

Except, on the game, they'll spell it right :D

I had CoS, but it made my computer crash, unfortunately. I though it was Sims for the longest time, and kept trying with CoS... By the time a ditzy me figured out what it was, I couldn't exchange it. I had to get rid of it after that.

OotP is by far the best of the series.

I have the OoTP video game for Xbox 360. I think the problem with this game, as well as with most movie-based games, is that it's too easy and that it doesn't have enough gameplay. It's far too easy to "beat" this game because the characters can't die! It would be disturbing to kill Harry or have anybody else die, as these games are most likely played by younger kids. But, unfortunately, having Harry just fail a task and restart it at almost the same point is boring. If he was able to die, then they could do more action-oriented things instead of having most as the tasks being pointless, like moving benches or looking for tapestries. The second problem is that there's not enough to play. Most of the things in the game that take time are exactly the same, like finding statues or fixing portraits. The actual storyline, however, goes by in about 2 hours. I wish they would've spent more time working on things that actually relate to the story!

I have Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on the computer and on PlayStation 2. I also have Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix on the PlayStation 2. I think that Prisoner of Azkaban is the best game. I like the whole concept of earning house points and the fact that you can play as all three characters for the first time.

Golbet of Fire just wasn't as Harry Potterish as the rest of the games. I didn't like that you had to get a certain amount of those shield things to go on to the next level and the game just didn't seem like it was Harry Potter. Order of the Phoenix was fun though. I think that would have to be the second best out of the five games so far.

Ok everyone, I've not seen much discussion about what people's favourite games are, only discussion about the games themselves.

So...to those who have played the games - what is your favourite?

To get us started, mines is the Goblet of Fire game. The gameplay is brilliant, levels quite (but not impossibly) difficult, I love being able to play with all 3 characters, and it isn't boring at any point. Money well spent!!

I have the last four games for PS2. My favorite game so far is the fifth one. I hated the fourth one. My favorite part of the games is that you get to roam around the castle and go where ever you want. You can't do that in GoF. I think they should have combined the switching between characters from POA and multi-player. That way if you were playing alone you could use each character. Or if you were playing with one other person you could still which if one person was dying. Which reminds, you couldn't die in the fifth game. That made it kinda a boring because it was less challenging.

i had a good time playing OOTP on my PSP, it had great graphics for a game meant to be played on a portable gaming console, and it was brilliant that they used all the info they could get on Hogwarts' layout and incorporated that into the game. i dont know if that layout would qualify it as canon, but it was damn useful, i have a helluva time figuring out where places were from the books and the movies didnt really help as much as i thought they would (i'm still wishing that JKR release a damn map of Hogwarts and its grounds, even just a rudimentary one). i really want to try out the game on the Wii, seeing folks do those wand work looks to be fun, but as of this time budgetary constraints is keeping me from even thinking of getting a console.

I am bad at Gobstones
I have 8 out of 12 Fred & George packagas
I have only 2 more chess statues to go
I have 8 out of 15 wizard plaques
I can't find the last animal footprint
I have only 4 out of 12 Hogwarts insignia
I have 20 more Items to tidy up around Hogwarts
And, I need to cast all the Defensive spell in one incounter just once more

Can you give me a hand and tell me where I can find these things? (except the wizard games)

Ok, well this is kinda embarrassing, but i haven't actually completed any of the Harry Potter games! :S I have PS or Playstation, PS, COS and POA on computer. GOF on Nintendo DS and OOTP on Wii. Actually the GOF one is really easy, i had completed all the levels just needed to go back and find the remaining shields when i accidently wrote over it and lost it. I think OOTP is much harder - I'm still looking for the last talking Gargoyle? Can anyone help??

I just compleated CoS. That was a pretty fun game. I had the help though of some cheats cause some parts I tried and tried and I couldn't get it. And right now I'm working on GoF. Those are the only 2 games I own. I'm hoping to get OotP soon though.

Click on the video games link on the Mugglenet homepage and there are links for the games and the walkthroughs. Also do you not like the Harry Potter movies cause it seems like with your signiture that you don't.

Thanks for the tip about the walkthroughs. I have looked at them before, but I can't apply them well.

I do like the movies, they do what they are meant to do well, but I'm part of project that has a different outlook so we will be aiming to do something else (even if it seems the same "Make a Harry Potter Movie"). I'm not the one to talk to you about this (I ramble too much), you should ask DropKick (http://www.cosforums.com/member.php?u=64258), who came up with the idea.

I recently finished the OotP game for PC and I didn't really like it. It was kind of weird. It was very different from the other HP PC games. Half the time I didn't know what to do.

A random thought occurred to me this morning.

Since there are going to be two DH movies, will there be two different DH games? Or will there only be one game, released with Part Two?
