Playing Cards - Graphics & Art Competition #2

PLAYING CARD COMPETITION


Welcome all to part two of the Harry Potter Playing Cards contest!


Introduction:
This competition involves designing graphics for a set of Harry Potter playing cards. Each week two themes will be given; at the end of the week the contest moderators (evil_mushroom (http://www.cosforums.com/member.php?u=128363); sholeigh (http://www.cosforums.com/member.php?u=52804); xnataliex (http://www.cosforums.com/member.php?u=115596)) will place your design onto the specific playing cards (you will be told at the beginning which suit and number the two cards are) and then there will be one day to vote for your favourite. And at the end the idea is to have a full set of Harry Potter playing cards!


Rules:
* Card size limits: 200 - 275 pixels wide, by 300 - 375 pixels high;
* Entrants must follow the rules of the card given;
* You can submit images in any medium: photography collage, drawings etc. If any art work is not your own you MUST give credit to the person to whom it belongs;
* Please, only one entry per person, per card.

Please note the new times:
- Submissions start Sunday 20:00 (8 p.m.) GMT and end on Saturday at 19:00 (7 p.m.) GMT
- Voting starts Saturday 20:00 (8 p.m.) GMT and ends Sunday 19:00 (7 p.m.) GMT.

Maraudian, your very nice card is too wide. :( It's 300 pixels, and it has to be between 200 and 275 otherwise it won't fit on the template properly (as far as I can remember sholeigh saying at some point)

And rainie, I don't think it matters which one you use. If they were both cast as Parvati, then both the pictures would be eligible for use, I'd presume. Though I prefer the first one, she's prettier and more Parvati-like as I imagine her. People used all sorts of different actresses for Narcissa, after all (Glad you like my entry, too :))

I feel like some sort of ambassador for this thread after all that. :huh:

No bother :) As lurvmedespair says (thanks lurvme!) you can use any image or interpretation of Parvati that you like, including sketches, photos, play-dough :p

Woudn't that be great :) You can get cards printed but the cost would be prohibitive, since there are only about 20 of us at the most who might want them.

Yeah, I'd be a deck of the cards too. I think they're so beautiful and better than the free Harry Potter cards I got when I brough OotP.

And you right, a Google search for pictures of Chris Rankin does bring up loads of long curly haired pictures. I was shocked, he looks so different.

Thankies. Paint Shop XI has a ton of brilliant borders. That's just one of them.

I agree, between the moustache and transforming into Gollum-with-fangs instead of a real werewolf (like in Van Helsing, for example), Lupin in the movie really was nothing like I expected/hoped. Still, the "werewolf" does grow on me... the moustache remains unforgivable, though.

Edit: There's a PaintShop XI? I bought PaintShop X like a month ago and I thought it was the latest version?? Rats!

I download the free monthly trials. Sure, you don't get all the great additions and everything, but I can live without those. I am :love: XI!

There's a brilliant screencap where it looks like Lupin is walking like an Egyptian, like the song, I find it so funny. Hang on, I'll try and find it.

Anyway, here it is. Okay, it doesn't make up for the fact that they ruined the movie, and Remus especially, but it makes me laugh that someone can animate something to look like this:

I have a love/hate relation with it, because it's my favorite book and I feel it should be my favorite movie. It is, but the "Mooney" thing annoys me too, especially as it affected the way people who had read the book wrote it. It looks like it should be pronounced "Moon-eh." :rotfl: I really like your entry, I love the colours and the ornamental stuff on it, but I have to say that's not a bad idea at all :D. Everybody would recognise that as Percy, so what's the problem?:lol:

This was definitely an 'I saw this and thought of you' thing. :lol: I saw the image in Mugglenet's galleries (I was originally looking for one of when he was in that snowy glade in PoA, because he looked suitably angsty and fighty there, but it looked like he was about to say a rude word :lol:) and thought of those propaganda posters from WW2, where the guy is sticking his finger out and saying, 'Your country needs you'. If nothing else jumps to mind, I just start playing with colours and lighting. Create new layers over the photo, fill them with colours and set them on different transparency settings and opacities.

You could try to make the image the sharpest, brightest, clearest version of that image anyone ever made, and along the way you should get some inspiration :) Good luck :tu:

An idea just sprung into my head when a playing card competition II was suggested with a "totally different spin"... how about a Tarot card competition? Make a Harry Potter theme Tarot deck? (I know a few people who would buy that, lol) Of course, if that idea was done, it would require the cards to be designed with this in mind... even the most unique Tarot decks do have a certain styalised design about them. Still, it's an idea if anyone's interested?
