Book 5 - Personal Predictions

If there has been another thread like this, my apologies to all. If it belongs somewhere else, please relocate it.

There have been many individual threads discussing each possible plot twist in OotP. Since we're coming into the home stretch, I'd like there to be one place where each of us could post our personal predictions. This is not a thread for debate or discussion, or to explain why you prefer one ship over the other. It's just a place to list your predictions as to what you think will happen in Book 5. On June 22nd we'll all be able to look back see where we were right and where we were wrong, and on June 23rd we can start discussing what will happen in Book 6.

Since I'm the one starting this, I'll go first. Some are pretty obvious and some a little off-the-wall.

1. Ron will become the new Gryffindor keeper but Harry will be the team captain.

2. Dumbledore will tell Harry he's Godric Gryffindor's heir, that he's the only one who can stop Voldemort and Voldemort knows this, which is why Voldemort has been trying to kill Harry all these years.

3. Aunt Petunia will be revealed to be either a squib or an actual witch with very little talent.

4. The twins will be co-headboys.

5. Hermione will be a prefect.

6. The giants will come over to Dumbledore's side.

7. The dementors will be on Voldemort's side.

8. Snape will be revealed as a double-agent. He will convince Voldemort that he never stopped being a DE and will continue to teach. Voldemort will think he's keeping tabs on Dumbledore, but in reality he'll be keeping tabs on Voldemort.

9. Winkie, despondent over the revelations about her former master, will go over to the dark side.

10. Winkie will attack Harry, and Dobby will die defending him.

11. Ron and Harry will start to figure out how to become animagi.

12. Mrs. Figg will be revealed to be Harry's secret-keeper.

13. Mrs. Figg will be the new DADA teacher.

14. Hermione will get the maximum number of OWLs possible and will start studying for her NEWTs.

15. Ron and Harry will get at least six OWLs each, and won't start studying for their NEWTs.

16. Neville will tell his roommates about his parents.

17. The room that hasn't seemed important until now will be revealed to be Harry's dorm room.

18. Harry will work up his nerve and ask Cho out.

19. Ginny will work up her nerve and ask Harry out.

20. Ron will work up his nerve and make a play for Hermione.

21. The new location away from Hogwarts will be the MoM.

22. There will be a power struggle within the MoM. Fudge will be out of office and Arthur Weasley and Amos Diggory in positions of power. Arthur may become the new MoM.

23. Percy will marry Penelope Clearwater.

24. Percy will face a personal crisis and have to choose sides. It won't be easy, but in the end he'll do what's right, not what's easy.

25. The Order of the Phoenix will turn out to be Voldemort's inner circle.

And if, on June 22, it turns out all of these are wrong, a big Bravo! to JKR and to the rest of you - I don't want to hear about it!

Fred and George will start/prepare their joke shop ideas...

-Drace will go through the "Right or easy" choice, and side with Voldemort (well, hes pretty much already done this....)

-Neville will do something really brave (to prove he's a Gryffindor)

-Fudge will hire a teacher in Hogwarts to keep a close eye on Dumbledore

-Ron will (of course) be the new Grffindor keeper, and maybe even the captain (chess skills...)

-Ron and Hermione will have a relationship in secret

-We'll see the Chamber Pot room again :clappy:

-Fudge will die (its more of a hope than a probable theory)

-We'll find out Trelawny's first prediction

-The next Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher will be a vampire (watch this be right...:lol: )

-Harry will tell Cho how Cedric died

-Harry will bond with Ginny

-Ron will get a new broom *crosses fingers*

-We'll see Fleur again, but Ron won't be attracted to her :p

Well, those are just my thoughts. :sorry:

All are good predictions, but one quote that is troubling me is,

"Severus," said Dumbledore, turning to Snape, "you know what I must ask you to do. If you are ready...if you are prepared..."

"I am," said Snape.

He looked slightly paler than usual, and his cold, black eyes glittered strangely.

"Then good luck," said Dumbledore, and he watched, with a trace of apprehension on his face, as Snape swept wordlessly after Sirius.

The reason this quote is disturbing is because Ms. Rowling said there was going to be a death in a well known character. Could Professor Snape be exposed, and killed by Voldemort himself?

4. The twins will be co-headboys.

Hehehe...sure!

5. Hermione will be a prefect.

I get the feeling that Harry will end up as a prefect as well. What other fifth year Gryffindors will be as powerful as Harry, or as capable?

14. Hermione will get the maximum number of OWLs possible and will start studying for her NEWTs.

15. Ron and Harry will get at least six OWLs each, and won't start studying for their NEWTs.

I think Harry will get the most, Ron will suprise with a large amount, and Hermione will at least equal Ron.

20. Ron will work up his nerve and make a play for Hermione.

I'm more of an H/Hr :)

25. The Order of the Phoenix will turn out to be Voldemort's inner circle.

I'm thinking it's an anti-Voldemort group. Voldemort and his followers hate pheonixes. They are far too noble. Voldemort got his wand before he became evil. The OoTP is more likely to be a force of good, imho.

Your other predicitions are very interesting, and for the most part, I agree. Will the dementors being with Voldemort make Harry's Patronus all the more important? It seems after the first time, a Patronus is easy to cast! Remember in the maze? Harry had no problem casting the Patronus.

I especially like the Winky/Dobby prediction! It makes sense---Dobby would die protecting Harry, certainly. And it would be a noble death for Dobby, in his mind.

Professor_Snape: I think Snape may die, but I don't think this is the major death we are waiting for.

I think Snape is genuinely concerned about Harry--yes, he hides it very well, but I don't doubt that he would die to defend Harry.

My thoughts
-Harry and Hermione will get an equal (and VERY high) number of OWLs

-They'll both be prefects

-Something will happen to Sirius ( he may be caught or freed)

-We'll learn Snape is a good guy with an attitude problem

-Something will happen to Dumbledore *cries*

1. Dobby will be the one who dies.

2. Hermione and Ron will get together :love:

3. Fred and Angelina will get together:love:

4. George will find a girlfriend.

5. The twins will start their joke shop and it will be a HUGE sucess.

6. Dudley or Petunia will demonstrate magicial powers.

7. Good side will be winning in the end.

8. I will hook up with Bill :lol:

-Hagrid will die
-Hermione will go out with either Ron or Harry
-Fudge will remove DD from the school mid book and McGonagle will take over. Fudge will die or something and DD will be back.
-Hermione gets another friend that's a girl and the one that isn't dating hermione will date her.
-Neville does something really cool
-something really horrible happens to Draco (not killing him, just making him look stupid)
-all the money that he gave the Fred and George will help Harry (fake wand at the right time in the hand of the enemy for example)
-decendent of GG
-finally figure out that 12 stuff.
-Lily was in Slytherin.
-Ron, keeper, harry captain

We agree with the Petunia is a squib theory. (Their parents were so delighted when Lily got her letter. Does that mean they were disappointed when Petunia wasn't invited to Hogwarts? And like a known squib, Filch, she certainly has a fetish for cleanliness in the extreme.) Wouldn't it be a riot if it was Dudley who discovered his powers late in life. Well, later than 11 anyway.

The confusion is in CoS when it states clearly that the Dursleys are muggles. And Tom Riddle refers to Harry's "mudblood mother" at the end of CoS. Of course, she may have had one magical parent or maybe a nonmagical grandparent.

My daughter thinks Lily and Petunia are Voldemort's daughters, Petunia a squib and Lily a "freak" and a "perfect sister". So Volde struck out on both offspring. One a squib, perhaps something he blamed on his muggle father, and one a Gryffindor, something only Petunia saw coming.

In PoA when Harry hears V murdering his mother, it's obvious he's not after Lily, but Harry. And he refers to her as "silly girl". Why would he address a full grown woman as "silly girl"? Why would he not just kill her without a second thought? Unless ..... (I'm detecting a bias toward males in matters of inheritance.)

Have you noticed a tendency for Slytherin women to have flower names? Less so among females of other houses with the notable exception of Lily Potter.

Following this line of thought, it seems possible to us that Volde may have promised to protect Petunia and members of her household as the daughter who, though a squib, didn't turn against him. When Harry became a member of Petunia's household, V was forced to extend that protection to Harry as well. Powerful magic to protect from V, but not from the wrath of the Dursleys. Is this why Dumbledore insists that Harry return there every summer and remain under their "guardianship"? He is safer at the Dursleys than he is at Hogwarts.


All this would make Dudley another heir of Slytherin. And, if Dudley isn't the muggle equivalent of a Slytherin, I don't know what is. His mother is certainly proud of him. If he is the big V's grandson and he finds his powers, his parents wouldl be devastated. But how would Voldemort take it? If Prof Trelawney's first prediction is that V will be killed by his heir, (and we don't know this) and Harry has only managed to slow him down, could Dudley be the heir V must fear?

So, if Harry is the heir of Gryffindor on his father's side and the heir of Slytherin on his mother's side, then Harry isn't just fighting in this battle of good against evil. Harry is the very battleground it is fought on. His mother's choices tipped the balance. Harry's choices will determine the outcome.

This part all came about when someone mentioned in another thread that DD told Harry at the end of Cos that Voldemorte is the last heir of slytherin. In fact, the book says that V is the last ancestor of Slytherin. In the HPLexicon under Red Herrings, there is a statement that early editions contained the word ancestor, but it was changed to heir somewhere along the way. However, in an online interview, jkr hinted that ancestor was not a slip but was used intentionally. Later copies of CoS were changed again to say the ancestor of Slytherin.
This poses an alarming problem.

If Voldemorte is the last living ancestor of Salazar Slytherin, (CoS pg 332-333 American ppbk), how many ancestors have passed away? Is there perhaps a curse on Slytherin and his heirs that evil demons (ancestors?) will come to possess them and wreck havoc in the world whenever they can find a suitable direct heir to possess and control? Is the Order of the Phoenix an ancient secret underground resistance that rises from its ashes to fight
each new appearance of these demons. Have they all, perhaps including Grindelwald, been defeated by the Order except for this last one? Voldemorte? And is Harry a threat to him because he is another heir, an heir for which there will be no ancestor demon to possess? The heir who breaks the ancient curse.

But we know Tom Riddle's history. He was born in 1927 to a witch and a muggle and raised in a muggle orphanage. He became Lord Voldemorte, but how did he become an ancestor of Salazar Slytherin? Unless ... I forgot where I saw this suggestion ... he is using a time turner or somesuch, rearranging time. I think I saw it at the HP lexicon, too. If Riddle is Voldemorte and Voldemorte is a time traveller, then Riddle is the heir and the ancestor of Slytherin? (shudder)

It would explain why Hermione was allowed to use a time turner. So she would be able to help Harry figure out what's going on while letting us know that it's possible to juggle time in the magical world.

-I, too, believe that the order of the phoenix has much more to do with voldemort than with the "good side". Phoenixes are quite noble and really associated with good, but hear me out: Voldemort will use any means to achieve an end he considers very worthy, which I am guessing is more immortality than muggle-born cleansing, the books hint that. Or maybe the power to muggle-cleanse, you know, whatever. There is also very, VERY strong evidence that Voldemort does not kill for killing's sake. When he kills people, it's always for a reason, because they stood directly in the way of his ultimate goal (true Slytherin). He wasn't going to kill Lily, and far apart from any real attachment to her, it was probably just because her murder wasn't necessary until she wouldn't get away from Harry, who he needed to kill, presumably because of some sort of bloodline issue he got from James. As you can see, I'm not particularly opposed to Harry as an heir of Gryffindor, but all the same, it doesn't seem quite right... I don't know.
So we can assume Voldemort isn't a killer in cold blood (even though I know Cedric sort of contradicts this... perhaps he anticipated more difficulty with Cedric alive). If Voldemort has even a shadow of a facsimilie of a redeeming quality, that is it. Actually, quite a lot of things contradict this, now that I think about, so make of the former what you will, and I'll give my two strongest pieces of evidence for the OotP being dark: Voldemort has a phoenix feather wand core, and it does seem the sick and twisted Voldemort way of doing things to name his order after a phoenix. After all, he was "reborn", and what are phoenixes known for?

I also agree and think that Harry will visit the Ministry of Magic.

Victor Krum or Fluer Delacour is a Voldemort supporter assigned to convert one of Harry's closest friends, who will then be ordered to make a sneak attack on him. And the answer to the angry reply I got to this prediction on another forum is - I never said Fluer or Victor would succeed in changing Ron or Hermione's allegiance, only that he/she would try.

1 Harry and Hermione are made prefects

2 Dumbledore tells harry about the order of the phoenix, how last time he had Mrs Figg, Fletcher, Moody, James, Lily, Sirius, Remus, (Snape and pettigrew were also helpers). harrys wands reaction (priori incantatem) means he's had loads of new wands with fawkes' tail feathers made for the reforming of the order.

3 Fred and George are co captains, Neville keeper (to disappointment of ron)

4 Harry begins to see Hermione in a new light, possibly after spending time with her as prefects

5 Mrs Figg is revealed as Harry's guardian at privet drive (not his secret keeper-read GoF to see why)

6 Mrs Figg is new DADA teacher

7 Fleur is back as a kind of classroom assistant

8 We find out prof Trelawneys first Prediction

Figg can't be his Secret-Keeper, Voldemort wouldn't know he was there if he really had a Fidelius Charm on him.

OK, my fourth predition, about Fred & George being co-headboys. I know it's a long-shot, but what a joke it would be on them!

My predictions:
1.) Harry will not have a face to face encounter with Voldemorte himself this year.
2.) Mrs. Weasley will die.
3.) Hermione will become a prefect, and this will cause some tension with Harry and Ron. (I give Harry a 50-50 shot at Prefect, but he may have broken the rules too many times to make it)
4.) Ron will FINALLY *notice* Hermione.

1. OotP will be a group of anti-voldie fighters.
2. Harry, Ron, And Hermione will be made prefects (They have done extrodinary things for the school).
3. Ron and Hermione will get together.
4. I like that idea about Mr. Weasley getting to be MoM so yeah theres number 4 :).
5. Harry will get a lot of O.W.L.S. so will Hermione to...
6. Percy maybe ask Penelope Clearwater to marry him but I don't see them getting marryed because Percy just started his job at the MoM and won't have alot of money...
7. DD will tell Harry hes Godric Gryffindors heir
8. Fleur will become the new DADA and will turn out to be working for Voldie. Thats right! :)

Okay - some predictions....

1. The DADA job will be filled by Narcissa Malfoy - that's PROFESSOR Malfoy to you! :p

2. Hermione and Draco will be made Prefects, though I'm not sure about Harry or Ron.

3. Cho will be head girl, Fred and George will be joint head boys, and Cedric will have a memorial put up that says he's an honorary head boy.

4. Draco will start acting a little bit strangely towards Hermione... :crush: Hermione will not express similar desires. I expect we'll see the beginnings of this bout of unrequited love when Hermione and Draco are forced to work together as Prefects.

5. The Order of the Phoenix will be a bit like the Freemasons - a mysterious society with lots of secret handshakes and passwords! (I hope!!!) ;D

6. Harry will get offered a place on a professional Quidditch team. (I think this is wishful thinking, but what the hey?)

7. Ron's position on the Quidditch team will be shaky during the first game as a result of nerves, and Harry ends up catching the snitch only just in time to save the game. This will resut in Ron feeling a bit ashamed and jealous of Harry.

8. Ron starts to feel a bit fluttery whenever he's around Hermione, though I doubt we'll see the "Harry, if you wanted to... you know... with a... a girl... what would you... you know, what would you... use...?" conversation for some time. ;)

dont mean to be picky, but Cho will only be in 6th year!!!! so she cant be head girl in OotP. Love the quidditch theory tho!!!!! Id like to add that i think itll be hagrid who dies. sob.

Oops! I forgot that Heads have to be in their seventh year... Forgive the poor Australian and blame her school system which doesn't even have prefects!

1. Harry will witness Petunia performing a magical act at the end of chapter 1. It will emerge that the protection Harry receives whilst at Privet Drive comes via Petunia, as Lily's sister.

2. Rita Skeeter will be the DADA professor, as Dumbledore wishes to keep her close at hand during troubled times, where he can keep an eye on her.

3. Harry will learn to deal with death, in that he finds that he has to offer support to Ron who will suffer the 'unbearable sacrifice' of coming to terms with the death of his brother Percy at the hands of Voldemort whose first task will be to weaken the authority of the Ministry of Magic.

4. Snape will re-enter the Death Eaters circle, proclaiming his alleigance to Voldemort, but will in fact be acting as a spy for Dumbledore.

5. Because of Snape's absence from Hogwarts on this mission, Arabella Figg will teach Potions this year, at which point Harry will finally realise why her house always smelt strange when he used to visit as a small child.

6. Hermione and Ron will have a brief flirtation with romance. But Hermione, logical as ever, will back away from this, not wanting anything to compromise her OWL's, and not wanting anything to distract the trio from the fight against Voldemort.

7. A 'council of war' will be established at Hogwarts, comprising, amongst others: Dumbledore, Lupin, Black, Snape, Fletcher, Weasley and Figg.

8. It will emerge that Harry and Voldemort are the only living members of The Order of the Phoenix, and that the Order derives from the fact that the wand cores of Harry and V are from the same origin, and that those feathers have in the past resided in other wands, whose owners (now deceased) are also members of the Order.

9. The door at the end of a long corridor, about which Harry has nightmares, will turn out to be the door to the room at Godrics Hollow where Voldemort struck Harry as a baby.

'Twould would be soo good, I hope that's how it turns out!

And here are mine:

1. Angelina will be captain of the Gryffindor team (or maybe one of the other girls). Draco will captain the Slytherin team. Gryffindor will win the Quidditch Cup, but Slytherin will win the House Cup.

2. Hermione and Draco will be prefects.

3. Although ArabellaBlack gives a really good explaination of why the OotP could be Voldemort's followers (you really made me think!), I'll stick with my original thought - it will be a force for good, comprised mainly of the Old Crowd.

4. Lily and Petunia's parents were squibs, and Harry finds out Mrs. Figg is a part of his protection at Privet Drive at the end of Chapter Two.

5. Voldemort will have been quiet over the summer. Many will refuse to believe he is back. This will change with a high-profile attack... hmm... lets say, on Halloween night. Both the MoM and Azkaban will become unstable.

6. Hermione will do brillantly in the OWLs. Harry will tie with her. Ron will get an above average number too. Neville will surprise everyone, getting good results *and* scraping a pass in potions. Go Neville!

7. The Chamberpot Room will be visited.

8. Arabella Figg will be the new DADA prof, and the real Moody will show up at the school too. Trelawney's First Prediction is revealed.

9. Ron will realise he likes Hermione and not have a clue what to do about it, cue many funny moments. It'll get sorted out in the end though. Harry will finish the year without a girlfriend, but closer to Ginny.

... and...

10. Harry is in the flowerbed. ;)

Well, if Ron doesn't know what to do about liking Hermione, I suspect that she will. And act on it, too.

1. Alicia will be head girl

2. Hagrid or Ginny will die (its a tossup)

3. Winky will work for the Malfoys

4. Arabella Figg is not an old woman.

5. Arabella will be the DADA teacher.

6. Harry will start to have fluttery feelings for Hermione but not reveal them because of Ron.

7. Hermione didn't go to Bulgaria because Viktor broke up with her at the end of GOF citing her feelings for Harry.

8. Harry and Hermione are prefects. Ron experiences another bout of jealousy.

9. Percy and Ron will be seduced by "dark forces". One will give in.

10. The twins celebrate their last year with a flurry of practical jokes. Gryfinndor wins the Quidditch cup again.

11 Draco is Slytherin Capt and a prefect.

12. Hermione will receive the most owls but Harry and Ron will have the second most (each recieving one from Trelawney of all people)

I am throwing a bunch of wild stuff out here. I want to come back in four weeks to see just how much I got right.

-- Trevor (Neville's toad) will revealed to be a Basilisk's mum. I base this on Fantastic Beasts and a question posed to JKR about Trevor (He's still lurking around)

--- The Florence Bertha Jorkins saw kissing someone behind the greenhouse was the future Mrs. Lestrange. She was kissing Peter Pettigrew.

-- The one to die will either be Mrs. Weasley, Ginny or Dobby. Can't really elaborate on this one without some serious spoilers (Sun picture and OotP summary).

-- Harry will begin to have romantic feelings for Hermione (angst!), however...

-- Nothing serious/permanant will happen on the shipping front as they are only 15 years old ferchrissakes

-- Hermione will date Krum, much to the dismay of Ron. Harry will be slightly relieved since this means he can crush without having to actually confront anything.

-- Hermione will get more OWLS than anyone in the whole history of Hogwarts. They make up extra ones just to give to her. You go girl.

-- Hermione will be Prefect, but she will hate it.

-- Neither Harry or Ron will be Prefect. Perhaps Dean, Seamus or Neville will though. Remember how Neville stood up to H/R/Hr in PS/SS?

-- Draco will be a Prefect. EVeryone will want to kick his snotty little arse.

-- Draco won't be redeemed. He won't date Ginny or Hermione. Or Harry for that matter.

-- Fleur will return as Snape's Teaching Assistant/Apprentice. Can you see it? Well, maybe not, but it would make for great comedy and she *did* say she was going to get a job at Hogwarts to improve her English.

-- The Dementors will join Voldie and all DE's in Azkaban will be free. And not crazy.

-- Mrs. Lestrange will return.

-- As appealing it is for those wanting someone besides Lily of the MWPP generation to ship Remus/Sirius/Snape with (besides each other, of course), I don't think Arabella is a poly-juiced young(er) woman. She's an old cat lady. Deal with it!

-- DADA will be someone new (the summary made me think Mary Sue... argh, been reading too much fanfic)

-- Dumbledore is really Ron. That is how he knows everything. It is also how he was able to eat a vomit flavored Bertie Bott Bean in his youth when Bertie Bott wasn't born until 1934. Both are tall, skinny redheads with long noses. It is the ultimate HP twist. JKR didn't set up that time travel thing in PoA for nothing. Ok, that won't be revealed until book 7... but just hold tight.

-- Draco will be Quidditch Captain for Slytherin

-- Harry will be Captain for Gryffindor, but I really want it to be Angelina Johnson. I just like her for some reason.

-- Ron will be Keeper (duh)

-- Cho will be the Captain for Ravenclaw

-- If Mrs. Weasley or Ginny is the one to die, Percy will somehow be involved. It will be partially his fault through evasion of the real issues. Percy will choose the ministry over his family... with grave consequences

-- Neither Harry or Ron will become Animagi... however, if anyone has the talent, it would be Hermione.

-- The significant room is the room full of chamber pots. It is like the Mirror of Erised, only it actually gives you what you want/need most right that moment.

-- Fred/Angelina get together... yay!

-- G&G open their joke shop

-- Trelawney's oh so predictable first true prediction was that Voldie was would be defeated by the Heir of Gryffindor. No groaning! there is a twist.....

-- The Heir of Gryffindor will be revealed to be.... Lily Evans Potter. Yep, that is right. Lily.

Here is my take:

Unlike Salazar Slytherin, our good buddy Godric didn't put much stock in bloodlines. His Heir only had to have his gift and be able to perform some act or challenge -- like opening the Chamber, only... something else that would require the 'gift' and the qualities that made a true Gryffindor (not really important here what that is exactly). The gift had something to do with doing magic with the eyes (see some JKR interview on the eye thing). Lily is not related to any founder. Her family are either muggles or long time squibs.

Now, James Potter *is* related to Godric Gryffindor. Lily has Godric's gift of the eye thing. Trelawney makes the prediction... 'Voldemort will be defeated by the Heir of Gryffindor'. Voldie knows the Potters are related to GG. He knows Lily has the eye magic gift. He also hears little Harry Potter has his mother's eyes. He makes the conclusion that Harry is the Heir, disregarding the fact that Godric's Heir isn't required to also be a descendant and also stupidly disregarding the fact that Lily had already done the deed that made her the Heir. He spares Lily (the true Heir) because he thinks her gift might be useful, even if she is a Mudblood. So Voldie goes after Harry... only have Lily (the true Heir) imbue Harry with the old and Ancient magic, thereby defeating Voldie. Self fulfilling prophecy.

This is a little too predictable. I think JKR has something even better up her sleeve. Harry may be Godric's heir. But I think there was something else that Voldemort wanted to kill him for.

I agree with that too. Unless Petunia knows something else that she's hiding from Harry. Maybe she knows about the protection.

As for why he didn't show up that night, Snape has the perfect excuse: He couldn't disapperate, because he was at Hogwarts, and you CAN'T disapperate from Hogwarts.

Snape's mission won't be to be a spy for DD. In book 1 he kept threatening Quirrel(who was possessed by Voldie).

Harry and friends will see more of Ginny, maybe develop a friendship, but not much more.

Harry will find out why Voldemort wanted to kill him and James.(I hope it has nothing to do with the "heir of Griffindor" stuff).

No idea who'll die.

I forsee nothing for Cho Chang. The theory that she will be distraught over Cedric doesn't swing for me, but she probably won't be interested in Harry anyway.

I think WhizBang was just commenting on how kinky it would be if Riddle/Voldemort was the heir AND ancestor of Slytherin. I'm just as stumped as you though as to how that could happen... Sirius's name will be cleared, but some people who are Fudge supporters will not believe he is innocent.

Harry will go to live with him. (i'm not sure this one is likely).

It's a weird one. but a guess of mine is that Parvati will be the one to die. But not by You-know-Who but by Percy. Parvati is a fan of Harry and she must beware of a red-haired man. Of the Weasleys Percy is the most, well uncertain one, so that's my guess.

I like that idea, Percy certainly would be a common choice for having to beware in the future. Parvati could be the by-product of Percy's actions when or if he goes to the dark side. Although, I don't think she is quite a large fan of Harry's after the ball, so she isn't really a fan of Harry's. But its a good idea for her to be attacked by percy in one way or another in the near future..

Relationship predictions:

-Ron will realize how he feels about Hermione, and perhaps tell her about them.

-Harry will find a new love. (not Cho)

Fun Thread!! Here're 21 Predictions:

1. Harry is not anyone's heir but his parents. However, DD tells him that Trelwaney's first prediction was that Harry (described by his birthdate, or eye color, or the traits of his parents, etc.) would be the only person capable of stopping Voldy from taking over the world.

2. Ron is the new keeper. Someone else (Angelina? Harry?) is appointed captain, but decides that they can't handle it after the first game, so Ron eventually becomes captain.

3. Hermione and Draco are made prefects. Not Ron or Harry. We don't learn anything about the OWL results until Book 6, because the results come out in the summer (however, I think all four will do very well with Hermione leading, Harry a close second, and Draco a close third).

4. Angelina may be Head Girl, but most likely HG and HB won't be anyone we know, so they won't be menitoned.

5. Later on in the book, Percy will get caught up in the Fudge faction at the MOM, and inadvertently put his mother in great harm. She will not die (saved by her husband, Bill or Ron), though it'll be a close call. This incident will change Percy's priorities and bring him back from the brink.

6. Bill will either quit his job in Egypt and get a new job at the MOM, or he will transfer to the the Gringotts in London. He'll want to be near his family right now to support and protect. He might do occasional free-lance curse-breaking/protection work at Hogwarts.

7. Fleur will return as Flitwick's assistant. She'll get a chance to see a little bit more of Bill and a little something may start between them. If it happens, it'll be very peripheral, and we'll only learn about it because Ron will feel jealous and inferior, then slowly gain confidence and rise above it.

8. Harry and Cho will go out on one or two dates, but it'll be awkward because of Cedric, and they'll realize that whatever chemistry H/Ch once had, is now gone.

9. Ron and Hermione will begin a turbulent relationship which will end rockily near the close of Book 5, or the beginning of Book 6.

10. Ginny and Harry will spend a little more time together, taking refuge from the R/Hr angry sparks. Ginny will realize that Harry will never see her as anything more than a little sister, so she will eventually hook up with someone who's much better suited to her. Harry will suddenly notice Ginny, but it will be too late and he'll nurse a quiet jealousy, which will fade out in time.

11.Throughout Book 5, Harry will become closer with Hermione, but won't become conscious of her importance in his life until it is threatened in some way towards the end of the book.

12. Hagrid and Maxime will succeed in bringing the giants over to their side. Hagrid will be reunited with his mother and convince her to return with him to England. Hagrid will be killed by Fudge or Percy.

13. The Order of the Phoenix is not a group of people but a secret honorary level, which once attained, confers extra powers on that person. Like the Order of Merlin, but practical, rather than just figural. When DD tells Harry about Trelawney's prediction (and everything else), he will reveal that Harry is eligible to begin work towards earning the OotP which, if he succeeds, will increase his natural talents, his focus, etc. In working towards the OotP, Harry has to discover and use the hidden power of the chamber pot room.

14. DD will tell Harry all about his involved plan for Harry's protection which will include Mrs. Figg (not secret-keeper, but rather watch-dog), Petunia, Snape, Mc Gonagall, and Hagrid. Harry will be shocked to discover that Snape has been on his side all along.

15. After Snape spends the summer spying out Azkaban, he and Sirius will have to go on a mission which will force them to rely solely on each other and their skills (animagus, former Az knowledge, potions, curses, etc.) to attempt to prevent the dementors from joining Voldy and releasing all of Voldy's supporters. They will try to strengthen those innocently imprisoned to help form an insurrection.
The plan will only partially succeed. Voldemort will get his strongest supporters, but not the dementors (which will be destroyed by the combined efforts of all the old crowd + Harry). At least one of the supporters returned to Voldy will be a spy (the mysterious 4th person at the Crouch, Jr. trial, and perhaps Mr. Lestrange).

16. Winky will turn spy for the Dark side. Dobby may die trying to protect Harry from her.

17. Peter Pettigrew will have to confront Sirius, Lupin and Snape again. He may be killed by Voldemort or Winky in fufilling is life debt to Harry. Sirius' name will be cleared at the end of Book V, right as Rita Skeeter is preparing to end him.

18. Rita Skeeter will be the new DADA teacher (though I wouldn't be surprised by Narcissa Malfoy), appointed by Fudge. She helps Fudge discredit DD to the parents and the Board, and DD is sacked, about halfway through the book. Mc Gonagall steps in, but Skeeter makes things so difficult that MG's not able to accomplish much. At the end of the book, Rita's either revealed to be a Death Eater, or becomes one and is found out. She goes into hiding with Voldy's clan.

19. Malfoy will begin at the height of obnoxiousness. Halfway through the book there will be a confrontation between his father and Snape which will cause him to re-examine everything he was raised to believe. The end of Book 5 will leave him still undecided and questioning, but he will have made one small action in favor of DD's side.

20. Harry will seek out Neville and confide in him, which will encourage Neville to tell Harry and Hermione the story of his parents. H and Hr will start thinking about what he might have seen, and will enlist Bill and Fleur's help to break the memory charm on Neville.

21. Hermione will begin work on becoming an animagus. (JK already stated that Harry would not become an animagus, somehow, I don't think it would appeal to Ron).

This is a great thread and I am glad someone started it. We can all come back here and laugh at what we thought would happen.

Some of my predictions:

Hermione will become prefect

The DE will target Hermione because she is a muggle born and people think she is Harry's girlfriend.

Ron will be in some sort of danger also. I think that the DE will target Harry's friends because they can't directly get to him.

Ginny will get over her crush with Harry. They will become closer as friends and she will become very important to the fight against Voldemort. I see her 'blossoming' and become a little more independent (we will see more of the fiery temper that red heads are noted for).

Ron and Hermione will resolve some of their issues. They might date a time or two but realize that they are just friends.

Harry will get over his crush on Cho. Might make some moves towards her but will realize it won't work.

I really don't see too much in the 'falling in love' department in this book. They are too young and are worried about the future. They will have some crushes and maybe a few dates but nothing serious.

Ron will be tempted or mislead into betraying Harry but will make the choice of what is right versus what is easy.

Narcissa will be the next DADA teacher.

Percy will be torn between his family and his duty to his job and it will cause problems for him.


I think Hagrid will die trying to save Harry.

I can't think of anything other than that.

Before, I dive into my predictions, I would like to add I had a really weird dream in which I found a copy of Book 5. Some of my more crazed parts are taken from said dream. It isn't because I think the dream will come true either. I just want everyone to know what a loon I am.

1) Ron and Hermione will start dating, even though I'd wish it would be Harry and Hermione.

2) The OWLS are a mix of written and performance based tests.

3) The Oder of the Phoenix has to do with Voldemort's search for immortality. Speaking of which, Voldemort will acquire some kind fo book that tells him what he needs.

4) Dumbledore's quote happens close to the begining. He wishes he had told Harry at the end of year 4--now that Voldemort's back, Dumbledore will want Harry to know the truth. And don't worry, there will still be many surprises along the way. It will take place no later than the end of the welcome feast.

5) Voldemort will know that Harry has been told. Either by spy or somehow he will see it for himself.

6) Voldemort will set the dementors free.

7) Hagird was sent to find the giants and offer friendship. They accept.

8) Winky starts harassing Harry.

9) Dobby and/or Molly Weasly die.

10) The "dream" mentioned by scholastic will come true. Maybe not in Book 5, but it will come true.

11) Fleur becomes DADA teacher.

The questions several peopled have answered within this thread are part of the Book 5 challenge and you aren't supposed to submit your answers until June 15.

Personally, I think there's at least one question among them that's completely irrelevant. Can we go back to just listing our own ideas and leave the challenge for a few more weeks?

Another personal prediction that has been mentioned but hasn't really gotten a lot of publicity is that McGonalgall is related to Harry or at least very close to him for a unknown reason. There is actually quite a bit of clues that suggest it. Every time Harry was in mortal danger (such as the fourth task) or a very happy event (quidditch final in POA) McGonagall was there. And it seems to me that her reactions and comments vaguely and specifically represent the sort which is used by a caring parent or relative. Out of all the teachers, whe is the one who is shown with the most emotion towards Harry. And she practices more empathy on him then would be usually expected from her which could be the product of, say, favoritism? (given, he is HARRY POTTER, but she does practice it more than other teachers though.) Sentences like "He noticed that her hand shook as she pointed at his shoulder." pushes me to believe that McGonagall is related to Harry, or as a bare minimum, has some sort of feeling of duty to look after him because of some unknown happening which we have never heard of. Guess we'll find out soon enough though!

Ecthelion-- Actually there's an all-inclusive McGonagall thread where people have talked about the relationship with Harry. My belief is that DD gave specific protetction roles to McGonagall, Snape and Hagrid in regards to Harry. That's one of the things I was talking about in my post of predictions on page two.

Many people think that McG is Harry's godmother, as evidenced by the fact that she showed a stronger reaction to Lilly and James' deaths than just about anyone. The part of that theory that I like a lot is that McGonagall is one of the cats at Mrs. Figg's everytime Harry is there.

Yes, I agree-- all of the revelations won't be limited to Lily and the Dursleys.

Ah, I see the thread now, funny I've never seen it before...Thanks though! McGonaagall as one of the cats at Figg's house is a neat idea that is very interesting! Oh, and I only read some of the first page and the third page so I guess I missed your post as well.

As for McGonagall being related to Harry - I did a post on Harry's godparents where I suggested that Dumbledore and McGonagall were Harry's honorary godparents - in other words, they wouldn't raise him, but would be there for him in all other respects. That would explain why McGonagall seems to get so misty about him.

I also noticed that in the books, McGonagall has brown eyes, but I could swear Dame Maggie Smith had green eyes in the movies. (Yep, she was knighted a while back.) Made me think. Actually, it made me go back to re-read the initial description of her to see what color eyes she had.

Now, I have to update my original predictions.

First, I retract the one about Mrs. Figg being the secret-keeper. Several people have posted things that have convinced me I'm on the wrong track with this one. She was probabaly a "Harry-watcher" for the ministry.

Second, I think Lily was in Slytherin, but not a death eater. I don't even think that was on my list.

However, I stand by my prediction that the twins are going to be co-headboys, laugh if you must. Someone posted that they were too irresponsible to be headboys, but I don't think "responsible" is a word that would be used to describe James Potter. "Major prankster" would be more like it!

BTW, does anyone how the headboy and -girl are selected? Is it just based on grades? And how many prefects can there be? They can't all be prefects; who would they boss around?

As far as I know, both prefects and HB & HG are honors based on both outstanding grades and conduct. The twins, while adorable, did not get enough OWLS to be eligible as either prefects or HB. In fact, I have a feeling that only current or former prefects are eligible for HB & HG. Molly was pretty disappointed that neither one of the twins were asked to be prefects, and we can assume that it was because of un-outstanding grades or their record with Filch, or a combination of both. True, James was a Marauder, but it could be that he wasn't caught at it as often as the twins.

No idea about the number of prefects, but there've been idle comments in the books which imply that there are at least two per house. Not a surprise if there's 250 kids per house ranging in age from 11-18.

The only alive people related to Harry are the Dursley's and their extended family. If there was anyone else, chances are he would be living with them instead.

Although James liked to explore the castle and break many rules with the other Mauraders in his cloak, it doesn't mean the word responsible can't be used to describe him. I like to do a lot of... stuff, but when its important, I can be very responsible.

Lily was actually in Gryffindor. JKR says that in one of her Scholastic interviews.

Besides, Harry told DD everything about the graveyard scene, which included a comment that Karkaroff would be punished and Snape killed, so if there were plans to the DE spy-effect, they're pretty much toast now.

That's why I think Snape's mission has more to do with Azkaban. Polyjuice is just so overdone by now...

I see loads of great predictions here! Good job! I do have an opinon to share on several of the topics based on those "strings" that have been left "hanging"....

THE OOTP COVER
If you know that HP is right handed then the fact that his wand appears to be in his left hand may have crossed your mind at some point. Remember that JKR revealed that the Mirror of Erised/Desire would make a return appearance... also keep in mind that artists often portay an image that is part of a whole image... 360 degrees... if you try to imagine that Harry is standing in a round room - which JKR also revealed is the shape of that "Important" room that Harry has been in but does not yet realize the significance of... Consider this: Harry is in a round room with three doors... he wants to go through the correct one... if he is looking into the mirror of Erised, it will show him which way to go... if the picture you see on the cover is Harry looking over his shoulder into the mirror then his right hand (reflected) would look like his LEFT hand. Hence the picture you are seeing on the cover is actually the reflection in a mirror and everything is opposite of what it appears. Hope that reads correctly.



HARRY AS A SEER (The Dreams)
What I haven't read mentioned is the dreams Harry has prior to his ability to See in his dreams in Book 4. In book 3 we see his first dream (while Black is standing over Ron) where he is running through the dark forrest and chasing something that is silvery-white and he hears the sound of hooves. Apply to this Firenze and JKR's revelation that he and his kind will play a significant role in the later books... Throughout ALL of the books you will read where there is something silvery-white emerging or disappearing... for example... after Crouch Sr. is discovered by HP and Krum, JKR describes a silvery-white whisp of something that comes out of Hagrid's Cabin's open door... (Hagrids cabin is also round)... What is this silvery-white? In Book 4 we learn that dreams are significant to Harry... re-reading about his dreams in previous books where we thought he was just a kid dreaming... makes it more interesting...

THE IMPORTANT ROOM
JKR says that this is the first place she would want to visit - that Harry has been there before but that he does not realize its significance. JKR aslo says that the room is round. In re-reading, there are only three rooms that are mentioned as "round". Hagrid's hut, Dumbledores Office and Professor Trelawney's Classroom. Personally I think it is D's Office.

NEW PET
JKR was asked if Harry would ever have another pet. She said "yes" that he would acquire/inherit another pet and it would not be an owl. The only other "pets" of significance are Hagrid's Boarhound "Fang" and Dumbledore's Phoenix... the only way he could acquire them is if one or another of the owners was killed... I say that Hagrid is more of a "fan" as a friend and Dumbledore is more of a "mentor" than a "fan". I think Hagrid makes the sacrifice in OOTP which kind makes me think maybe his cabin is something special.... consider also this...

CORRIDORS
In book 3 Harry inherits the "Marauder's Map" with seven passages... Four of which Filch suppossedly knows about, One that is caved in - not the COS passage - one that goes under the whomping willow and leads to the village, and one in the witches hump that also leads to the village. Perhaps the one that is caved in is significant. Perhaps the other four are as well...

Great post, Tallulah! I love the Mirror of Erised-Cover theory. Also, it was nice to see Fang mentioned as a possibility (most people focus on Fawkes or "Snuffles").

Harry as a Seer is definitely going to be important in this book-- I completely agree with you. It's time for him to have some other powers besides pluck and good hand-eye coordinaiton.

As for the centaurs, JK DID say they would be coming back, and I think Book V is a good time to learn a little bit more about the independent Firenze.

However, I believe that the silvery stuff we see at Hagrid's house the night that Crouch appears was sent out by DD's wand. It's the same stuff he shoots out at the Dementors (that Lupin also uses in the Hogwart's express). I think it's a diffused Patronus. Not unintentionally weak like Harry's first attempts-- just positive light to alert, warn, or deter.

It was good to list the three circular rooms together. Still, we have no idea what shape the chamber pot room is... ;-) And it would be really nice to discover more of those other tunnels on the Marauder's Map.

BTW, Speaking of the cover, there were those promotional E-Bay stickers hanging around, and the House pictured looked uncannily like her earlier chapter illustration of the Shrieking Shack. No reason why that can't be one of the places revisited...

I don't think she said the room was round. Here's the quote: "When asked by one fan what she would do if she could travel to Hogwarts for an hour, Rowling replied, 'Go straight into a certain room, mentioned in Book Four, which has certain magical properties Harry hasn't discovered yet!'"

I'm a long time believer that Harry's new pet will be Fawkes. But he won't be a "pet". I think Fawkes originally belonged to Godric Gryffindor, and has chosen his "keeper" throughout the years. I'm also a person who believes that D will die at some point in the series. His death will propel Harry to the position he needs to be in to defeat Voldemort. So beause of D dying, and Fawkes chosing his owner, I think Fawkes will choose Harry. Fawkes is quite fond of Harry already.

Could Harry be meeting with the mirror of the Erised once more? Maybe since Harry is going to be pursued relentlessly by a choice, the mirror of erised will finally come into play and show Harry what he really wants in the big choice he'll have to make.

HOWEVER:

Will it really show him the right one? Think about it. The mirror of the erised does not always tell the correct choice, it tells what you really most desire. What if Harry's greatest desire for this choice is the wrong choice? Perhaps that is what Harry will have to go through: doing the right thing but not the thing that he wants the most. This would definitely cause the upmost turmoil and would serve the statement that he is going to be troubled by a door (choice) quite nicely.

About that, I think that there are many doors (choices) to choose from but one of them (either the right choice to do or the absolute wrong choice, we don't know yet) haunts him the most because it holds his future in check by the enormous change it will bring. So even though scholastic said that Harry sees 1 door in his dreams, that doesn't mean that there is only going to be one door in the whole picture, just one that stands out more than the others.

Perhaps an ancestral/ historical line of people with wand cores, some kind of connection, just speculation. But probably the gorupt thing.

2. Why do some people become ghosts and not others?
Unfinished business/ overwhelming emotion: anger, misery, maybe even happiness

3. Who will die?
McGonagall

4. Who will fall in love with whom?
Ron and Hermione at the end of the book. Maybe a little bit of talk between Harry and Hermione.

5. What is the big revelation about Lily?
I can't make myself accept the Slytherin idea, but clearly something about the eyes and almost definitely family related. Something to do with charms.

6. Who will fill in the empty spots on the Gryffindor Quidditch team?
Ron will be the new Keeper. Fred and George will be the new Captains.

7. Who will be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?
As much as it seems like a trap, I'll say Arabella Figg.

8. Who will become prefects?
Hermione and Hermione.

9. With whom will Percy side in this book?
He will side with Fudge and the MoM at least in the beginning, and maybe even waver as to where is loyalties should lie but ultimately side with good.

10. Will Sirius get caught in this book?
No.

11. What was Snape sent to do?
I just don't see Voldemort falling for the double agent gag again, he's no fool. May have something to do what Snape's specific job was with the Death Eaters.

12. What was Hagrid sent to do?
To convince the giants to work with Dumbledore against Voldemort.

He has to, it's been integral in his adventures.

Agree with PotterFreak, yes but kind of add-on at the end, not essential to the story. Though it does explain alot.

However - the good news that is she's not going to die. Maggie Smith stated in an interview last year before CoS that McGonagall survives the series, and that she's signed up for the 7 movies.

Well i think that Harry's dream of going out with Cho Chang might come true, while they're going out, Ron and Hermione will be ignoring their feelings toward each other.:hug:

I think that either Colin, or Dobby will die...they're, well the craziest Harry fans ever!! though i hope it is colin as i kinda think that Dobby has some kind of role to play against evil in the future books. :angel:

None of your theories struck me as hard as this one did (I personally liked & agreed with it). I DO think it may come true, since it a spoiler divulged by JKR herself says, 'One of Harry's fans will die'. If Dobby wasn't a fan of Harry I don't know who would be. He has practically idolised him ever since Harry freed him from Lucius in CoS. While almost all the rumours have been about Hagrid dying, I personally find it hard to link 'a fan of Harry's' and 'Hagrid', he is more like a friend IMO.

I think Hagrid dying is a little obvious, and JKR never does the obvious, does she?

All those spoilers - Robbie saying he won't be in all the films, for example - has anyone besides me considered the possibility that a lot of these so-called spoilers are red herrings, put out there to keep us guessing?

As to Colin vs. Dobby - who'd really be upset if Colin bought it? He's such a little pest.

Goldie...I know this is kind of off topic...but people were annoyed with Jar jar binks...and Lucas didn't make him kick the bucket. I think that Colin is there to provide a little comic relief. :) I think he's hilarious...and the quote by Ron (I think) about making sure that he stays away from Ginny...otherwise they will start the Harry Potter fan club! I laughed so hard I nearly cried!! I think that colin's character is like Ginny's...they are backdrop characters that will step into the light when needed, then step back into the shadows when JKR is done with them....It's Ginny's turn to step back into the light...how long she stays there...who knows...

Me neither, but I think that Ginny is a good match for Harry.

9. Draco will be a prefect and Quidditch captain.

10. Mrs. Figg won't be the old lady she seems to be, appearance wise.

11. Dumbledore will be revealed to be an animagus, after all he taught transfiguration, and Hermione never mentioned who else was on the list, plus he's old and could be on last century's list.

*12. I've decided that Snape will be taking a polyjuice potion made from Barty Crouch Jr. and get some info from the inner circle.*

13. Cho will be the Ravenclaw captain.

14. Dumbledore will return the Mauders Map to Harry, either in person or with another note telling him to "use it well"

Jar Jar Binks annoyed me so much I didn't bother seeing the fifth movie- what was it called, Attack of the Clones? (And this from someone who bought a limited-edition boxed set of the first three films before she even owned a VCR.) Hate to say it, the first SW's were so memorable, but all I remember from #4 was the race.

As for Colin biting the dust, no. His death wouldn't have the impact of Dobby, Hagrid, or even Filch, for that matter. OK, maybe not Filch. But being an annoying pest is what Colin's all about - endearing in his own way, I suppose, but still a pest.

I also think Ron and Hermione will either settle down and stop fighting, or they'll just agree to disagree and live happily ever after. Personally, I'd like it if they agreed to disagree - they're more fun that way. I can here Ron now - "Yes, dear! No, dear! Anything you say, dear!"

And yes, Ginny is a good match for Harry. Someone on some other thread said that Arthur Weasley would like nothing better than a muggle for a son-in-law. Well, if Harry ends up with Ginny, and Hermione ends up with Ron, that will be almost the same as two muggle in-laws. In fact, it may be the only way Arthur ever discovers the function of a rubber duck.

I like the idea of Snape masquerading as Barty, Jr. via polyjuice. Nice, sneaky idea.

If Snape decides to take Polyjuice to spy as Crouch, Jr., anybody working at the MoM who is also a DE, would tell Voldemort and then Snape would be revealed.

1. Ron will be Keeper, obviously, but Harry won't be the Captain. I think it would be too cliche if Harry gets the captainship. But still I'm hoping he gets the job on his sixth year.

2. It's either Fred or George who gets to be captain, or even Ron.

3. Fred and George will have another batch of new inventions for Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. Probably more dangerous and definitely funnier.

4. Harry will discover the love of his life in book 5. (Hermione or Ginny or Cho--it's gotta be one of these three)

5. Hermione will be a prefect and will continue badgering Harry and Ron about studying for the OWLS. As for the two boys becoming prefects, it's a long shot. They get detentions and lose points almost every year!

10. Ron will discover that he has a gift in Divination. (Okay that may sound far-fetched but still I think it's possible!)

I thought Fred and George were two years older than Ron and Two years younger than Perc. But I could be wrong. I thought that's why they could not be in the Twizard Tournament. If they were 7ths years they would be able to put there names in. Right? But then again I don't know when their birthays are.

Ok my predictions. Hagrid will die. Lilly will either be only Petunias half sister or she will not be as noble as we all thought. Despite Ron becomeing Keeper his resentment of being in Harry's and Hermonie's shadow will grow. Draco will start to have doubts about the dark side which will be told subtly b/c it is Harry's POV. We will learn more about the Longbottoms and hopefully the Lestranges. We will get more backstory on everyone who will be important in latter books. Volde will keep quite forming a new power base maybe he will do something tiny at the end. This book will be mostly about character introduction and development and exposition like POA.

Uncle Vernon discovers his magic powers! Think about it - everyone is saying Petunia or Dudley. What better way to really drop the bomb on us! I know I would be shocked.

I keep thinking it's Aunt Marge who is going to turn out to be magical. Everytime something happens to her Harry is angry. So we automatically assume it's him. But what if it's her? She's angry as well everytime something happens.

- the order of the phoneix will be an elite group of witches/wizards to combat against voldemort

- after hagrid dies trying to get the giants on their side, the giants realise which side is right and join DD

- the elves have an important part to play in the battle against voldemort

- i dunno how exactly the prefect selection works but hermione is a shoe-in for one of the positions while the other position could go to a number of ppl

- hermione will get the most number of O.W.Ls, followed closely by harry, then ron and neville will surprise a few ppl

- snape will be on a mission to azkaban along with sirius?

- mrs. figg or rita skeeter are the only ppl that comes to mind to be the new DADA teacher unless there is a new character. Fleur is not qualified enough

- there will be something going on between ron/hermione/harry, ron will finally figure out what he feels for hermione but realises that she cares for harry more

- harry will not be able to face cho after wat happened with cedric last yr so nothing occurs between them from this

- harry near the end of the book starts to look to hermione as more than a friend

- harry will have an encounter with voldemort or a death eater, he definately will have an encounter with a dementor

Your right. I have never thought of Christmas vacations before. Always sort of took them for granted considering he hasn't done anything different the whole time he has been there. However, maybe he'll go to Hermione's house over the chrismas break. After all, he's been to Ron's house twice now. And as you said, JK may just go and do something different. Plus Him going to Hermione's house will potentially give Harry the first chance to see how a family is during the Holidays and how enjoyable families really can be. How sad :'( . But I hope it comes true.

3. The Order of the Phoenix will be Dumbledore's closest friends and allies against Voldemort. Phoenixes rise from the ashes of their destruction, so the order may be made up of those whom Voldemort has affected personally. So they 'rise' from their trials against Voldemort.

4. The OotP use a phoenix image to sumon each other. Remember when Dumbledore is investigating Barty Crouch Snr at Hogwarts, and he finds Krum? Something like a bird flies out of his wand and goes to Hagrid.

5. Ron will make the Gryffindor team.

6. The significance of Harry having his mother's eyes is that she had some sort of vision or seer ability. That would explain Harry's ability to 'see' what is happening elsewhere with Voldemort.

7. Hermione will top her OWLs and Ron and Harry will do well also.

8. Romances? I was a teen once and I am not gonna touch these ones!

9. Snape will go back to Voldemort as a spy. Possibly using polyjuice to impersonate Barty Crouch Jr. The trouble is where to hide Barty in the meantime?

:??: Can you believe it predicitons?

1. Percy will flirt with the dark powers, probably giving away information in his attempts to get further in life. I think he will repent and change back to good, but his error in judgement will have serious consequences. This is one of the reasons I think Mrs Weasley may die. It would allow more development of Ginny as a female Harry, put Ron and Harry on a more even footing, and really drive home the point about how our choices affect our lives. The other person who may suffer from his error would be Penelope. This would again demonstrate the effects of our choices.

2. As I said above, Lilly will have had some unique ability as a seer of sorts. Harry has his mother's eyes and as he develops magically we see him having more visions of what Voldemort is up to. This may also tie into Harry being Gryffindor's heir. Although I feel that James Potter is a direct descendant of Gryffindor.

3. Lilly Potter related to Voldemort? There could be Slytherin blood in Lilly Potter. It would help explain why Voldemort offered to let her live. His need to kill Harry, would then have been from the fact that Harry would be the only other MALE Slytherin heir. If Voldemort only had to kill the heir of Gryffindor then why not kill James Potter before he had Harry? If it is not the male/Slytherin combination it would be the Gryffindor/Slytherin combination that makes Harry a threat to Voldemort. Also the blood link helps explain why Harry has some of Voldemorts abilities and can 'see' what he is doing sometimes.

4. Lilly a Death Eater? At least at one time, or she was close to being one. This is an alternative to why Voldemort offered to let her live and it ties into my next thought...

5. Snape in love with Lilly Potter? This would explain why Snape turned spy against Voldemort. Perhaps an affair between them. JKR hinted we would learn something about Lilly. Snape was envious of James, and what a way to get back at someone. Make their spouse love you and turn them against the person you hate. Of course it was Snape who turned, not Lilly.

6. Petunia magical? As other's have stated she does seem to have stereotypical squib traits. If Lilly has Slytherin blood in her, as I stated above, so does Petunia.

Well that's enough for now, time to get back to looking for dinosaur fossils (yes I really do). There are a lot of good predictions in the thread and I did not want to go on repeating all of the ones I agree with. No matter what, I am sure the book will be fantastic and JKR will make the wait well worth our time.

1) Harry goes to Azkabam
2) Harry and friends stay over at Mad eye moody's house
3) One of the Dursleys dies.
4) the giants side with Voldie, along with the dementors.
5) Fudge sides with Voldie
6) Percy sides with Voldie, but doesn't realize it, tries to make amends at the end and dies.
7) Harry pushes his friends away, afraid he'll be the cause of their death.
8) Harry is consumed with finding a way to kill Voldi, even if it means using dark magic.
9) Dumbledore tells Harry about the first prediction.
10) James nor Lily needed to have died. Voldie only wanted Harry.
11) Neville will do great things.
12) A teacher will die.
13) Bill Weasley will teach at Hogswarts while hagrid is away.
14) The centares will come to Harry rescue again in the forbiden forest.
15) the housevles have ancient magic and this will be a huge deal in the next books.
16) The goblins will have another uprising and join Voldie. Hogsmead is no longer safe.
17) Ron is mad at Harry for the way he is acting so he pushes him to the limit during practices.
18) Dumbledore has to create a secret ministry to try to beat voldie.
19) Figg of course is the new teacher, or it could be Nevilles gran.
20) Harry begins to like Hermione, even while Ron and she dates(kinda)
21) Harry has to go back in time, thru his memories, to understand everything. Dumbledore puts him thru this ( the cover).

- I think Voldie will try to use the house elves to get at Hogwarts from within but how SPEW would fit into that I have no idea.

- swinging merrily on my limb I say yes he is. And I'm going to add that it's due to Voldemort and his quest for eternal life that Snape was turned vampire and that's why he turned against Voldie.
Is Dumbledore an animagus?
- I don't think(if he is that would be yet another unregistered animagus and i would be doing some performance evaluations in that MOM department) so but I do think he can become invisible without a cloak

1. Harry will hook up with Hermione.
2. Hermione will score the highest on OWLs,etc. with Harry coming close.
3. We already know Ron is keeper, but he won't be captain. No quidditch experience.
4. Snape will at the very least dodge an attempt at his life, courtesy of Voldemort or the Death Eaters. In my mind, he will die.
5. Arthur Weasley finally climbs the Ministry ladder, perhaps not to the top, but definitely into a position where Dumbledore can manipulate (or work with) him (moreso than Fudge).
6. Sirius gets cleared.
7. Ludo Bagman continues his bumbling and screws up (leaks) a major plan.
8. The fake wands from Fred and George save Harry's butt in a skirmish with Voldemort or in some other life-threatening situation.
9. Draco Malfoy renounces his family's dark ways due to something tragic that happens to his family. He begrudgingly helps Harry as his only recourse.
10. Victor Crumb is the DADA teacher or becomes a student (if he's not too old) at Hogwart's.

Basically ppl, i see several possibilities here.
1) Hermione: seems 2 b the obvious choice, though many ppl have her tipped for Ron
2) Cho Chang: Harry likes Cho, only problem is she is mourning Cedric.
3) Ginny Weasley: v. unlikely but all the same Ginny does have a HUGE crush on Harry.
4) SUSAN BONES: I can see no-one really expected this one, but I reckon that they will be a pretty good match as both of their parents were murdered by Voldemort and she has been there since the first book!

ok, my predictions-

concerning relationships:
Harry befriends Cho Chang, they have a talk about Cedric or somthing, Cho says she knows it was in no way Harry's fault. But they will just be friends in this book, nothing more...(Cho needs some time to herself, Harry is busy with a brand new plot!)

Ron and Hermonie will have an 'awkward' stage, as Ron realises that he likes Hermonie and Hermonie knows it too. Nothing will really happen, maybe Ron will admit at some point to Harry that he thinks he fancies Hermione?

Harry gets annoyed with Ron because Ron is not too hot at Quidditch and they lose a match against Slytherin and its Ron's fault

Charcters-
I hope Mundungus Fletcher and Arebella Figg will be how ive already planned in my mind what they should be like...i'm convinced they are both good people. Figg will be new DADA teacher.

A Weasly will die (I'm thinking Bill, Charlie, or Arthur)

We find out something about Dudley or Petunia - one of them is either a witch/wizard or a sqib

Cornelius Fudge does not join with Dumbledore. He won't join Voldemort either - he'll kind of be sitting on the fence. Percy will follow Dumbledore. Percy will do something very important involving his ambitious side. Neville will also do something important...somehow everyone in Gryffindor finds out about his parents too.

And i can't think of anything else right now about what i think will or should happen...part of the excitement for me is not having a clue what will happen.

Everytime something happens to her Harry is angry. So we automatically assume it's him. But what if it's her? She's angry as well everytime something happens.

By the way, this quote is about Aunt Marge. And to add some skeptisism, but why would she blow herself up in the process of yelling at Harry? Wouldn't the magic be directed towards harry himself? Sure Magic is unpredictible, but I am sure wizards, if motivated enough, which she was, can send in in the general vicinity and enough specified direction that it can cause harm to the person as to whom you want it directed...not upon yourself. As always, this theory is quite possible, but I just had a few ideas of how it couldn't be true.

Also, for some reason, I think Harry will become head boy, being as much as a suprise to us as it is too him. After all he does possess the qualities of a leader and portrays, most of the time, what people need to be like. (At least in his moral decisions and values)

I made a post much earlier in this thread, but as the book draws nearer, I'd like to make my *final predictions* (which may be edited after that JKR interview).

The Order of the Phoenix is a group of people, headed by Dumbledore, sworn to fight the Dark Arts.
Over the Summer, Hagrid and Olympe Maxime went to negociate with the Giants.
Hagrid's tendency to say things that he shouldn't will come into play again. Maybe it will even get him killed.
Ginny will begin to get over her shyness that suddenly appears around Harry.
Ron and Hermione will NOT show obvious signs that they love each other.
Harry will harbor feelings of regret and anger that he has never been allowed to have a normal life.
Although the members of the Order of the Phoenix are the sworn enemies of Voldemort, as many of its members will not get along.
Snape will have trouble trusting Sirius and Remus.
Dumbledore will be the Target of Voldemort's wrath, however, through out much of the book, it will seem as if Harry is still his target.
Dumbledore will die, and the Order will fall apart.
Moody will reappear in this book...the real Moody.
Winky will harbor feelings of irrational resentment toward's Harry and Dumbledore. Dobby will be hard pressed to keep her calm.
There will be more talk of shutting down the school.
Before the school year is even started, Dumbledore will be removed as Headmaster.
McGonnagal will take over,
Snape will be her deputy.
Arabella Figg will be a powerful and good witch, but a truely unpleasent person to be around.
The end of this book will be the most powerful yet.

- Mrs. Weasley will die.
- Ron will be temporarily put under the imperius curse and fight against Harry.
- The broom closet will be an important room.
- Much more will be explained about the magic that saved Harry from Voldemort when he was a baby.
- Draco Malfoy will NOT turn good in any way.
- Harry will give up on Cho, and Ginny and Harry will get together.
- Hagrid's journey to get the giants will take a lot of time, and most of what we hear about him will come in the form of letters from Hedwig.
- Hedwig will die or go into retirement or something. (I know I'm pushing it)

I dunno. Those are all my zany theories for tody.

5) that weird house is a muggle house that James transfigured into a safe house. It looks creepy on the inside and on the out, but it's not really bad....it just looks that way
6) Lily worked as a Charm Maker for the MoM
7) Hermione becomes a prefect
8) Sirius and Remus team up again
9) Snape takes polyjuice potion to spy on Voldemort
10) The Dementors join up with Voldemort and all the Death Eaters get out of jail
11) Fudge will also die (who said there is only 1 death)
12) Hagrid will be gone this whole year, but will keep in touch with Harry by letters
13) Harry will get a phoenix for a pet, maybe even Fawkes!
14) We find out who some of the ghosts were before they died (for my theories on that check the spoilers thread)
15) Draco will begin to question some of the things his father is doing.
16) Myrtle will help Harry out again

Harry Gets Expelled and Reinstated

Hermione and Ron get to be Prefects
Dumbledore gets into trouble

I came up with some theories. They were a little out there, but i figure I better post them just in case they are right.

1. The Great powers of the Order My first theory starts with the theory that Snape's Mission was to use polyjuice to become Barty Jr., to be a spy. I am against this theory. To me, Voldemort seems to have some powers where he can see many things and know many things. He would know it is Snape. This seems to be a power possessed by Dumbledore as well. So, maybe this is a power only great wizards have. Maybe this power decides if you are in the Order of the Pheonix. I beleive those members to be the old crowd are in the Order, BUT are good. I also beleive the Order to not just be GOOD people, because Voldemort is in it. He was probably put in it while a child, in Slytherin. I beleive Harry, Ron and Hermoine will be placed in the Order for the great things they have done in the past 4 years. Ron and Hermoine know, but Dumbledore does not allow them to tell Harry for reasons dealing with Ms. Figgs protection. He also does not allow them to talk to Harry over the summer. This is why Harry is said to be a lot angrier in book 5.

2. The Beginning The book will start with Harry lying down angry because he hasn't been written to and his letters aren't answered. I beleive Dudley will become a spy for, and try to turn Harry in to VOLDEMORT!! He does this out of pure anger. Of COURSE he is angry at Harry. A long time ago, Dumbldore told the Dursleys of Ms. Figgs protection, so they do not want Dudley to spy. Petunia and Vernon are scared of the wizarding world if Dudley were to help Voldy. BUT, as I said, Dudley is doing this out of pure anger. Why is he angry at his parents? One word,DIET! He has been on his diet and HATES it!!

I thought Fred and George were two years older than Ron and Two years younger than Perc. But I could be wrong. I thought that's why they could not be in the Twizard Tournament. If they were 7ths years they would be able to put there names in. Right? But then again I don't know when their birthays are.

And, if you remember correctly, they had just taken their OWLS at the end of PoA. OWLS are traditionally taken at the end of year 5, so they would have to have been in year 6 during GoF.

As for my predictions: The new DADA teacher will be someone we've never met before, Ron and Hermione will be made prefects (how else is he eventually going to become Head Boy and Quidditch Captain?)[I do believe that what he saw in the Mirror of Erised will come to pass].

I have a feeling either Mrs. Weasly or Sirius will die (after all, Harry can only go to live with Sirius or at the Burrow after the protection at the Dursley's ends......which I believe will in book 5).

I believe one of the Dursleys has some magic in them. I can't say which one, but I think it will manifest itself subtly, like one of the Dursleys seeing a dementor on the front lawn or something........

And I believe the Order of the Phoenix will be: Combo meal #5 with a chocolate shake!:p

I think it has to do with unfinished business, or perhaps that way they were killed. Lily, James, and Cedric are the only ones we've met who were killed with the AK, and they haven't shown up as ghosts.

Hagrid, maybe Sirius

4. Who will fall in love with whom?
Ron and Hermione, and Harry might have a date with someone, but I don't think we've met his match yet.

5. What is the big revelation about Lily?
I think she may have been a type of apprentice to Dumbledore. He used ancient magic around the Dursely's and studied with Flamel. Lily used ancient magic to protect Harry - she had to learn it somewhere. I agree that there might be something with Slytherin.

6. Who will fill in the empty spots on the Gryffindor Quidditch team?
Ron will be the new Keeper. Alicia will be the new Captain.

7. Who will be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?
New Person

8. Who will become prefects?
Draco and Hermione.

9. With whom will Percy side in this book?
He will side with Fudge and the MoM at least in the beginning, and might be somewhat responsible for the person who dies because of inaction.

10. Will Sirius get caught in this book?
No.

11. What was Snape sent to do?
I still have yet to figure this one out...

12. What was Hagrid sent to do?
To convince the giants to work with Dumbledore against Voldemort.

13. What will happen with SPEW?
I hope nothing - I didn't like that part of the story...

14. Why does Peeves obey the Bloody Baron?
I think Peeves and the BB knew each other in real life, and perhaps Peeves was the BB's assistant?

15. Will Harry get the Marauder?s Map back?
Yep!

16. Is Harry the Heir of Gryffindor?
This is my first thought when reading CoS, but it almost seems too obvious. I think he might be, but he's also part Slytherin if this is the case.

17. Is Snape a vampire?
Nah - I think his mother was smothered by a lethifold when he was still in her womb.

18. Is Dumbledore an animagus?
Yeah, but I don't think it will be important to the story. I think D has different tricks up his sleeve, and doesn't *need* to be animagus to do them.

19. Anything you'd like to add?
Yes - I think we'll find out that Sirius was a Slytherin or has some Slytherin in his family. Perhaps he's kin to Snape.

Note: my predictions have changed a smidge - hence the repost (deleted my first one).

I reckon the Order of the Phoenix is a group of anti-Voldemort activists who are after Harry because they think he's telling lies about Voldemort's return.

Sadly, I believe Sirius is the one to die in OotP. As the tibits say, Harry is going to see death more closely. I think it means that the only family that Harry has left is going to die, which means his godfather. Sirius is one of Harry's fans and I think he'll die protecting Harry, like from Voldemort or some Dark creature or Death Eaters. :(

No idea -- another good surprise, I guess!

6. Who will fill in the empty spots on the Gryffindor Quidditch team?
Ron as keeper, Angelina as the new captain.

A new character

I think he'll side with the MoM. Perhaps there'll be a climactic moment where he decides to sway in his loyalties and join his family again, though.

Spy on the Death eaters, either by infiltrating himself, or simply spying from outside. I think he'll be trying to find solid evidence that Voldemort is truly back, to help Dumbledore convince the wizarding world of his return.

Nothing, I hope.

Its funny, I just emailed this into Anne yesterday, and the I read the JKR interview and laughed about her answer about the DADA teacher. Anyway... this is what I thought yesterday...

1. What is the Order of the Phoenix?
I don't think the Order of the Phoenix ever existed until this book. It will be consisted of the group of people Dumbledore requested at the end of book 4. Their purpose will be to determine who is on Voldemort's side, and who is on their side, and to defend Hogwarts (as well as Harry) from Voldemort. I think we will find out more about our friend Fawkes, and perhaps he has a stronger connection in the ways to defeat Voldemort, rather than simply being Dumbledore's pet, thus, where they derive the name Order of the Phoenix - that Phoenix will be Fawkes.

2. Why do some people become ghosts and not others?
I think some people become ghosts because they were never really ready for death. Also, I think there is a reason Lily and James are not ghosts, perhaps because they were killed by Avada Kedava. The ghost world really is the place between here and the next life.

3. Who will die?
Sadly, I think Hagrid, but since JK said there will be lots of deaths, I also think some students will be killed off as well.
(adding today that I also think Dumbledore is in the running)

4. Who will fall in love with whom?
Ron will fall in love with Hermione (or at least realize his feelings for her), and Harry will start to recognize Ginny, but I don't think he will have time to fall in love with Ginny. I think Hermione may be interested in Ron, but not in love with him, yet. I also think Hermione is really going to become quite attractive this year, and thus, Neville will also develope feelings for her. This should be Hermione's year to blossom.

5. What is the big revelation about Lily?
I like the idea that Snape had a crush on Lily, and that perhaps she even dated him before falling in love with James. Also, I think she had a special power that few wizards have, something unique to her, but also passed on somewhat to Harry. Not sure, and I don't want to go with the obvious guess that it was her eyes.

6. Who will fill in the empty spots on the Gryffindor Quidditch team?
Well, Ron will play Keeper, and I think Angelina was a 7th year in book 4, so perhaps Seamus Finnegan will be a Chaser.

7. Who will be the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher?
I think it will be a new character, but not Arabella Figg like everyone suggests. A long shot would be to guess that it will be Rita Skeeter - LOL.

8. Who will become prefects?
Definitely Hermione. Personally, I didn't know 5th years could be Prefects, but Hermione should be an exception in any case. I also think Draco will be a Slytherin Prefect.

9. With whom will Percy side in this book?
Percy will side with his family of course! I think he will be tempted to go to the dark side, but he won't do it. He has more loyalty than that.

10. Will Sirius get caught in this book?
No, in fact, I think Sirius will be cleared.

11. What was Snape sent to do?
Snape was sent to Azkaban to determine which of the prisoners there are still loyal to Voldemort, and which are willing to be on the side of good. Because not many in Azkaban know that he was a spy, they will think he was a death eater, and will show their true feelings, (ask about Voldemort's return) etc.

12. What was Hagrid sent to do?
Hagrid was sent to get Arabella Figg and the Giants. He will be killed defending Dumbledore

13. What will happen with SPEW?
With Hermione becoming a Prefect, she will have more power to get more people interested in SPEW. I think SPEW is going to start changing some things for House Elves, and some are not going to be happy.

14. Why does Peeves obey the Bloody Baron?
Because the Bloody Baron killed Peeves, and accidentally died in the process, so the Bloody Baron has some control over him.

15. Will Harry get the Marauder's Map back?
Yes - I think Dumbledore will return it to him.

16. Is Harry the Heir of Gryffindor?
No, in fact, I think that theory is really crazy.

17. Is Snape a vampire?
No, definitely not.

18. Is Dumbledore an animagus?
Yes, I think he can change into a Phoenix.

19. Anything you'd like to add?

I think Harry will be expelled at first, but then allowed back into school. His expulsion may be because he performed magic off the school grounds, for what reason I'm not sure. I think Neville is going to play a bigger role, and become important to the trio, and in efforts to defeat Voldemort. I do not think Neville is another Peter Pettigrew, but I think he is going to be important. I also think that the new place Harry sees will be Godric's Hollow, where his parents lived. The Dursleys will be a little more lenient on Harry, but still hate his association with magic. Dumbledore will be keeping a very close eye on him during the summer.
If Dumbledore dies, I think McGonnagal will take over the school. If Hagrid doesn't die, I think he will be gone most of the time anyway because he'll be off with the Giants.

And today I'd like to add... I hpe that most of my predictions are wrong - LOL

also.... if harry isnt the heir of gryffindor (not that he isnt), then who is? i mean that role is a very important part of the book, and there has to be some siginificance to it. i dont think JK rowling will just leave the heir of gryffindor out of this, it may not be harry, but it has to be someone... same goes with the heir of slytherin
