I didn't trust myself to correctly copy that complicated code manually. I used ctrl c and saved it in an owl to myself. Good thing, too, as the old computer crashed since then and I would have lost the code otherwise--like Spritey did. :(
I did the same thing - copied it into an e-mail. I also printed a copy of my Wombat card, since there was a function for that on her website. I highly recommend doing that if you've got a printer. The card is a nice little keepsake.

If you need to copy and paste, you left-click the mouse, holding it down while you scan over what you want to save. Then right-click and hit "Copy" on the menu. Open an e-mail or MS-Word, right-click again, and this time hit "Paste" on the menu.

Or when you get your next Wombat code, and you can see it on the screen, hit the "Print Screen" button, then open Paint, left-click and hit "Paste." If it asks you whether you want the "bitmap enlarged," click "Yes." And when the picture appears, go up to File and "Save As" a picture file. Then you've got a picture of the entire page with the code saved exactly as it appeared - no guessing.

Just remember that last time the codes were "case sensitive," so if you type one letter incorrectly as either lower or uppercase, sadly it won't work.

Door openings are a lot like Christmas.I agree! I have seen only one door opening, the last one which led to the WOMBAT test. It was a great experience. Unfortunately I was too busy at that moment and couldn't spend time trying to work the riddle out to open the door myself. I rushed to Mugglenet for the solution. Then I took the test, and was delighted later when I received my results: I got an E, despite English is not my first language! I do hope next time the door open I will have time enough to try and work out the riddle myself, but my chances are not high, seeing that they have been of increasing difficulty.

I really wanna know what the title is!! I think that she should put BOTH titles up on a pole and we et to pic which one we like better...and then it can help her deciede = )
Since when should the readers decide about the title? No, no, this is the author prerogative, it is not up to us to choose which title suits better IMHO.

Another thing I have in mind, it's off topic but I don't know where to post it: don't you think that Jo could dedicate Book 7 to us, her readers and devoted fans? It would be a very nice thing to do, as this is the last book of the series, and considering she cannot anymore give personal dedicaces to anybody. What do you think?

Hem hem! Back to topic, how often does JKR create polls on her site? I've never been able to take one :( And what are they usually about?

MadMagic
September 27th, 2006, 4:51 am
I'm not sure how often she updates the poll section (I'm going to guess not very) but they usually include a few of the frequently asked questions she receives from fans through letters.

PotterPig
September 27th, 2006, 5:28 am
She also usually always comments that the winning question is not the one she would have picked. Then she gives a general answer. Actually sometimes there is great information in the answer. The poll is also home to the notorious Mark Evans fiasco.

There was a lot of FAQ polls during 2004. This was while she was writing Half Blood Prince.
I suspect she is hard at work because she really does want to finish by year's end (to give time for a summer 2007 publication). And I also suspect that an FAQ poll may reveal too much that she wants to keep as a surprise.

She's actually given us something better than an FAQ poll since she's given us a solid clue to think about (the cloak).

You mean the one with the magnetic letters? It's "here I am no ring within, tap 5 times and you get in". It's explained on the JKRowlings site FAQ thread. It has to do with a scrapbook addition.

All this stuff about titles! I clicked the link on someone's siggy and wound up at Amazon.com, selling copies of "Harry Potter and the Secret of Godric". I nearly freaked out...until I read a little further in this thread and realized it wasn't true.

Mugglenet has the order up - I'll put it in spoiler tags so those who want to try on their own won't be spoiled. :)

1. Click the door handle to open the door.
2. Click on the candle to light it.
3. Click on the dark red quill.
4. Click on the WOMBAT paper.
5. Click on the clover at the bottom left of the desk. It will turn into a key.
6. Drag this key to the desk drawer - the top of the key must touch the drawer.
7. The drawer will open, revealing the WOMBAT part two exam.
8. Click the hourglass on the desk.
9. You can now being your exam - good luck

Did anyone else notice the apparent "luck" theme? There was a rabbit's foot, a horseshoe, and a four leaf clover. Think Jo might be trying to tell us something?

The clover spits sparks only when the right order isn't followed.

I didn't mean it wasn't important in HBP. I was thinking that it might be important again in book 7. The Invisibility cloak and the Marauders Map are things that have been important more than once.

But did you notice that at the end of the test there was no "another test will be available in due course"?! This is a handy little clean up program that I found. It will get every little bit of junk off of your computer with one click of "run cleaner". Clears the cache, empties the recycle bin, deletes temp files, deletes cookies - everything. It will also clear out the Easter Eggs you've gathered though - you have to make sure to got to Applications and make sure that Macromedia Flash Player does not have a check next to it. That will save your Easter Eggs. :)

CCleaner (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/)

Just download the latest version. If you need any help with it, let me know. You can also specify certain cookies to be saved - like the cookie for COS forums.

A lot of people say clearing the cache helps get Jo's site to work so this might be a help to some of you. :)

The other tip that I have would be to make sure you enter the site using the Flag icons. Clicking the Accessibility Enabled Version doesn't seem to work for a lot of people - myself included. I always use the British flag for English. :)

Okay, I put for the "Trouble" question, Invisibility Cloak, Hand of Glory, and Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder - hey, it worked for Draco! And who doesn't love the good ol' invis. cloak?

As for the others, you do have to know what's in Jo's mind or at least be able to magically understand the Wizarding World really well. Some were very personal-opinion-ish. I said Muggles are . . . ignorant . . . too. Also, I think I said that Werewolves are more dangerous than Dementors or Hags or whatever the other choices were. Can't remember the other questions. It was hard. Hope these tests get "graded" soon and come with a freakin' book title or a chapter title even . . . or another two-line excerpt from the book. Or a character description. Or something!! other than a pass/fail grade!

Yeah, it was very interesting that she should include HBP and WOMBAT revision guide when you can't access either one. They're just there. I wonder if she's doing 7 WOMBATs though before she actually tells us anything?

I liked how some of the questions were worded "According to the Daily Prophet..." which, as we all know, is not an accurate source for FACTS! :)

I don't think she'll give us the title to book 7 as she hasn't decided what it is! But i hope it is some clue relating to the plot! She is a tease!

OMG! I can't believe we actually got a brand new WOMBAT!!! You know what this means, though. It's rather bittersweet. This means it's almost over. Forever! But, this will keep me til the end. :sigh: I wish it didn't have to end.

I don't know if you are, but make sure you are only single clicking things - I was double clicking everything and the clover wouldn't turn into the key. If you single click on each item the clover should turn into a key, then move the key to the handle etc., etc.,

Didn't she say there would be several, though?

Didn't she say there would be several, though?I only remember the certificates saying there would be a Grade 2 Wombat "in due course".

Maybe it was wishful thinking, then?

Maybe it was wishful thinking, then? Well, I think there has been quite a bit of that in the past six months...:D I remember someone speculating that there would be 7 Wombats, one for each book; I just don't remember any supporting evidence for it. (Could be my faulty memory.) Gosh, I don't think there would be time for more than one more before Book 7 is released if they are going to be 6 months apart...and at this time, we don't know if there will be a Grade 3 exam or not! We will probably have to wait for the grading of this exam before we know anything else!

I really hope not- we need some infomation!

Does anyone know why there were so many lucky charms behind the door of what I can remember there was a horse-shoe, a 4 leaf clover and a rabit foot. Thats too many to be a coincidence.

I noticed that too and mentioned it earlier. I wonder if Jo is trying to tell us something? :)

Your memory is fine. There was a lot of speculation on what the WOMBAT was for - how many there would be - if there was a purpose to having us take them. Lots and lots of speculation. I remember someone suggesting that there would be 7 and the title would be revealed after all 7. But it doesn't seem like there is room for 7 certificates on the wall.

As far as Jo's site goes, all that was said was that Grade 2 would be available in due course. There was never any mention of how many there might be all together - or if there is any purpose to them beyond giving us something to do. ;)

I had to use Internet Explorer to make the clover turn into a key, the clover just sparkled when I was using AOL. Everytime there's a new thing in the Room of Requirement I have to use IE instead of AOL because nothing works otherwise

Like I mentioned earlier in this thread, at the end of this test there didn't say : Grade 3 will be available in due course" like it did in the first test. I think that means there are only going to be these two tests and in a week or so when we get our results (didn't it take a week last time?) we'll get the title or soemthing else just as big. That's my theory anyway!

Actually, I think we got that message after receiving the results for Grade 1 - not after taking the test. I think that was on the certificates.

Hehe. No, what I meant was that the whole thing is almost over. I meant the books. I'm not sure if she will do any more WOMBATS, but it's just that this update makes me think of the inevitable end.

Yay so many updates

First time I opened the door and I have to say I was at the edge of my seat when I saw the inside of it :rotfl: The first thing I saw was the HBP book and it made me even more excited. Thanks for the hints guys because without those, I would have never figured out how to get the key.

Last but not the least, that test was a hard one. Was the first one as hard? How were we supposed to know answers about hags, percentage etc.? Some of them were asking for opinions too. Ah well atleast I got a chance to take it.

I like the latest update in Rumours. Especially the Snape one. Jo's answer cracked me up -simple and easy! "No" :rotfl: I can't believe HP is one of the banned books. It makes me sad.

I always thing questions that ask what you think should be marked right no matter what you say, because the question was what you thought, and you replied with your opinion. Some of the questions had no wrong answers if they were marked fairly.

I agree. Opinions are never wrong. I wonder if they will mark those questions wrong
