This is the thread to discuss Jo's site (http://www.jkrowling.com/) and any updates, or to complain about the lack of updates!

But the "something" isn't really anything enjoyable. It makes it sound like there is no way we will be getting a title or release date anytime soon.:(
I'm kind of happy... I don't mind waiting for the title/release date. But it is a little scarey to hear that she is no where near finished :p
Aw, don't despair! That's just Jo. She said the same kind of things before HBP, too. The lack of any major updates means she is hard at work on Book 7; she's superstitious about revealing titles and it seems she is rather apprehensive about revealing her progress, too. :)
rich_505 September 11th, 2006, 5:54 pm Woohoo version 11 :p
I wonder if she has any other updates planned/sorted seeing as she has found the time to respond to the "750 page" rumour in the rubbish bin, maybe she has instructed Lightmaker (I think that's who manages the website) to do further updates in due course.
anabel September 11th, 2006, 5:56 pm Updates to the Rubbish Bin. (http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/en/rubbishbin_view.cfm?id=15)
Alastor September 11th, 2006, 5:59 pm Thanks anabel!:)
No need to speculate over those 750 pages anymore.
anabel September 11th, 2006, 6:04 pm :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset:
Oh well! The longer she takes, the better it will be! And it might still reach 750 pages or even more!
LadyofthePensieve September 11th, 2006, 6:09 pm Thank you dear Joanne Rowling.
I never believed it! Well, it seems so you read my wish to make a statement at your website.
Once again! Thank you!
MrsLupin September 11th, 2006, 6:18 pm For weeks we have been whining that we would be happy with any update, and now we got it! :tu: Thanks Jo!!! So we know that she isn't close to finishing, that eliminates the 7/7/07 release. As long as she is happy with the book, I am more than happy to wait!
Nicole September 11th, 2006, 6:21 pm So we know that she isn't close to finishing, that eliminates the 7/7/07 release.Naw, it doesn't! She said the same things about HBP in 2004 and we had the book the following summer! :p
inahans September 11th, 2006, 6:21 pm Version 11! Woot! Lets hope this whole version is spent disussing the cool new updates rather than by posts going 'Jo pleeeeeesseee update'...
*wishful thinking* :p :tu:
rich_505 September 11th, 2006, 6:30 pm I can see Jo giving us all of the details (release and title) around Christmas time, especially if she wants a July release... She will be working like mad to try and get the book ready for her ideal release date.
mysterious September 11th, 2006, 6:47 pm I had a beleif that she would be awarding us with some surprise update on the 9/11 to cheer us all up but I think she thinks otherwise. http://www.smilies-and-more.com/pics/smilies/sad/036.gifhttp://www.smilies-and-more.com/pics/smilies/sad/036.gifhttp://www.smilies-and-more.com/pics/smilies/sad/036.gif
karatekid September 11th, 2006, 6:47 pm This blows my theory that she's so busy writing Book 7 she had not time to update  At least she hasn't forgotten us!
Version 11!
Annett September 11th, 2006, 7:08 pm Does someone know where I can find earlier versions from her diary? Is there an archive where I can read this? I think not so long before she anounced that HBP was finished she said the same about the six book. But for proof I need the archive.
And we have the middle of September, from today to December (in 2004 she anounced on the 20th December) there is plenty much time for finishing the book!
gertiekeddle September 11th, 2006, 7:08 pm *joins the party.
Yah - an update.
meesha1971 September 11th, 2006, 7:17 pm For weeks we have been whining that we would be happy with any update, and now we got it! :tu: Thanks Jo!!! So we know that she isn't close to finishing, that eliminates the 7/7/07 release. As long as she is happy with the book, I am more than happy to wait!
I agree with Nicole. Jo did say pretty much the same thing in 2004 about HBP - and then announced it was completed shortly after that. I think 7/7/07 is still the most likely release date. :)
Nicole September 11th, 2006, 7:17 pm Does someone know where I can find earlier versions from her diary?Yes, at the bottom link in my signature. ;)
MHPFAN September 11th, 2006, 7:33 pm Look at that! An update. I hope she updates again about the rumored "Secret of Godric" title.
beth83 September 11th, 2006, 7:34 pm so not 750 pages then (yet anyway. think i had best hold off buying that book stand!!!!! :)
thou happy there is finally an update!:)
Annett September 11th, 2006, 7:35 pm Thanks Nicole  Unfortunately she starts writing the diary a year after the announcment of HBP.
Jo did say pretty much the same thing in 2004 about HBP - and then announced it was completed shortly after that.
Yeah, I think so too. But where can I found the source where we read this? Can you remember?
beth83 September 11th, 2006, 7:40 pm i can't remember where it's, from but the book 7 release date thread people are coming up with very similar quotes, i'm sorry but i don't know how to insert thread links.
Nicole September 11th, 2006, 7:40 pm Yeah, I think so too. But where can I found the source where we read this? Can you remember?Head over to the Book 7 Release Date thread (here in the Common Room), or check the link at the bottom of my signature. ;)
meesha1971 September 11th, 2006, 7:41 pm Thanks Nicole  Unfortunately she starts writing the diary a year after the announcment of HBP.
Yeah, I think so too. But where can I found the source where we read this? Can you remember?
Nicole posted the quote on the Release Date thread earlier.
Annett September 11th, 2006, 7:59 pm Now I have the information I need, thanks Nicole.
Only 10 days between "I have nothing noteworthy to report" and the opening of the room of requirement where she announced she had finished. Therefore "I`m not close to finishing it yet" doesn`t say nothing about if we read later this year she finished the last book.
Alastor September 11th, 2006, 8:03 pm i'm sorry but i don't know how to insert thread links. Here's ComicBookWorms general advice to anyone who doesn't know how to do what they see done in other peoples posts: Click the 'quote' button of that post and you'll see exactly how it was coded. :)
Snivelly September 11th, 2006, 8:22 pm That's depressing . She's not close to finishing it? Now I feel terribly pessimistic for a 2007 release...fingers crossed though...:sigh:
silver ink pot September 11th, 2006, 8:22 pm Everyone wanted an update, and now we've got one! It just isn't the update you wanted.
I'm relieved to hear she isn't "speed writing" Book 7 just to get done with it - glad to hear that!
I love the way she bypasses the Diary and goes straight to the rubbish bin.
Thanks JKR! I'm in no hurry - take your time! It's your book, after all!
olive632 September 11th, 2006, 8:44 pm I'm so pleased for an update. I've been away for a few days and rushed back to my computer almost as soon as I got through the door to find a new version but am glad for some news on the book. Let's hope for some more news soon.
Tane September 11th, 2006, 9:32 pm Wow go to work and come back to an update. An update, even if it is the number of pages rumor it is still an update.
No where near finished, ouch!
Oh well this book should be great as it appears Voldemort gets really going close to the beginning or at least just before mid-point.
anabel September 11th, 2006, 9:34 pm It's a kind of anti-update! Instead of giving us news, it is taking away the previous piece of news!
olive632 September 11th, 2006, 9:35 pm It's a kind of anti-update! Instead of giving us news, it is taking away the previous piece of news!
Yes but she could easily have refuted the title at the same time.
anabel September 11th, 2006, 9:41 pm Yes but she could easily have refuted the title at the same time. She didn't, did she! She ought to have done! Does that mean it's the real title?
(Will I get banned for spoiling?)
Nicole September 11th, 2006, 10:07 pm (Will I get banned for spoiling?) No! Morgoth posted the title himself, didn't he?
I think Jo may feel as though it's beneath her to respond to yet another title rumor, and I doubt SoG is the only one floating around at this time! :elaugh:
BellatrixL September 11th, 2006, 10:27 pm Awww man, I really liked the "750 pages" rumour! I wish she had thrown in another diary update while she was updating the Rubbish bin.
And about her saying she's nowhere near finished writing, I'm still thinking 7/7/07 release is the most likely date. It's Jo we're talking about! She said the same thing with HBP and then few daus later she announced she had dropped the book off to her editors!
meesha1971 September 11th, 2006, 10:29 pm  No! Morgoth posted the title himself, didn't he?

No, we have a whole thread full of them!
If I remember correctly, some of the other title rumors floated around for quite a while before Jo debunked them. The difference with the hoax was the fact that the guy copied images from her site and made "screencaps" that looked real enough to convince people.
anabel September 11th, 2006, 10:32 pm No! Morgoth posted the title himself, didn't he? You mean Morgoth will get banned for spoiling! :wow:

Mgan September 11th, 2006, 10:36 pm Ok. So what has changed now?
MadMagic September 11th, 2006, 10:38 pm Ok. So what has changed now?
Just one piece of "rubbish" debunking the 750 pages finished rumor reported in a British tabloid.
Mgan September 11th, 2006, 10:48 pm Ah. I was wondering. Last time I really looked there were only 69 pages on the last thread and then all of a sudden it was full and we were on a new version. I thought perhaps something big had happened. Kinda disappointing. :grumble:
meesha1971 September 11th, 2006, 11:16 pm You mean Morgoth will get banned for spoiling! :wow:
And my sig isn't convincing? No, maybe not. *heads off to Photoshop*
 Your sig is amazing. Good job on that.
But it's not a copy of Jo's official site. I think that was the difference. This guy copied images from her site and manipulated them to create false screenshots of the door opening and revealing the title. He then posted that on a message board and claimed to have gotten it from Jo's official site. It was a very elaborate hoax and just about everyone was convinced that the door had opened and they missed it.
Jo was left with no choice but to reveal the real title because people were positive that the phony title had come from her official website. The guy later made a very public apology for the hoax and said he thought people would figure out that the images had been manipulated.

Quick! Somebody do that again now!
Just joking, I'd rather get the title when Jo's ready to tell us!

cemour September 12th, 2006, 12:16 am First, I must say "Thank You" to Jo. We have been asking for an update and we received one.
Second, we must look closely at the update. She ends it with the word "YET." She isn't up to the 750 pages....yet....so it is a possiblity that the book just might have 750 or more pages when all is said and done.
As I am typing this, my son said he would love to see this book at somewhere around 1000 pages. He said he didn't care how long it was, he would still read it. :D
anabel September 12th, 2006, 12:22 am She isn't up to the 750 pagesIs it too optimistic to hope that she's up to 739 pages?
SharksRNm1 September 12th, 2006, 12:29 am Is it too optimistic to hope that she's up to 739 pages?
lol probably anabel ...i think it is safe to assume that she isn't within a hundred page window of 750 pages. Now, whether she is beyond page 576 is completely possible! :p
dumbleISdead September 12th, 2006, 1:07 am NOOO im SOO extremly dissapointed
i seriously was convinced there was an update today, so i come on mugglenet and this is what i get
what a dissapointment
im now almost certain it wont be out next year
ughhhhh
mugglesrock September 12th, 2006, 1:27 am I was laughing when I saw Jo debunk the rumor. It was too unrealistic in the first place. Seriously! 1500 pages is too much and Jo is actually aiming for a book shorter than OotP
Don't get me wrong. I want more than a million pages but *shrug* we gotta deal with the truth.
meesha1971 September 12th, 2006, 1:27 am Is it too optimistic to hope that she's up to 739 pages?
It's too early to determine a page count because they will still be editing. Whatever she has now will change after all the editing is done. She or the editors could decide to cut a scene because it interrupts the flow of the story. Or she could decide to add something to improve the flow of the story. And so on and so forth.
If she were to reveal the page count, it wouldn't be until it was ready to be printed I think. I don't think she did reveal the page count for HBP - just said it was less than OOTP if I remember correctly.
The other thing we have to remember regarding the page count is that it's going to be different between the UK and the US versions. They started using a smaller typeface in the UK with GOF - not sure why because it doesn't change the page count by all that much. But that could be another reason that she doesn't reveal the page count.
Ronni_SL September 12th, 2006, 1:28 am Is it too optimistic to hope that she's up to 739 pages?
 Not at all, now if you were asking for 749 that would be a whole different story. :p
mugglesrock September 12th, 2006, 1:50 am Is it too optimistic to hope that she's up to 739 pages?
 Not really, I'm kind of hoping more than that so you're hopefully safe.
As Meesha said, after editing a lot is going to change. My dad is editing a book right now and you'd be surprised how many parts are cut and how many pages worth imformation is added everyday. It changes the whole page count. All we can do is hope more is added and not cut

She's aiming for a book shorter than OOTP, it still could turn out to be more than the 760 odd pages that the UK edition of OOTP was. I think she will have real trouble knowing when to end it, there are so many tid bits that she will want to tie up etc.
ComicBookWorm September 12th, 2006, 9:43 am  No! Morgoth posted the title himself, didn't he?
I think Jo may feel as though it's beneath her to respond to yet another title rumor, and I doubt SoG is the only one floating around at this time! :elaugh:Besides, I can't see how revealing the title would be spoiling. Everyone will know the title once it is announced. I can't see anyone sitting around, not wanting to know the title. Besides once they bought the book to actually read it, they would know the title anyway. A spoiler reveals something inside the book.
Freaky September 12th, 2006, 11:24 am Besides, I can't see how revealing the title would be spoiling.
Absolutely, I'm sure she won't be obvious like Harry and Lord Voldemort, or Harry and the way he dies/lives - although even that doesn't give anything away, but there's no way that the title will actually tell us what the book is all about as like you say, as soon as you go and buy the book you would know what was going to happen.
mugglesrock September 12th, 2006, 9:28 pm Absolutely, I'm sure she won't be obvious like Harry and Lord Voldemort, or Harry and the way he dies/lives.
:rotfl: How about 'Harry and his dream'
Yeah I agree, it can't be too obvious. Look at the other titles. You know what it means but you have no clue how it's going to relate in the book or in the plot.
meesha1971 September 12th, 2006, 11:02 pm Besides, I can't see how revealing the title would be spoiling. Everyone will know the title once it is announced. I can't see anyone sitting around, not wanting to know the title. Besides once they bought the book to actually read it, they would know the title anyway. A spoiler reveals something inside the book.
I agree, but that doesn't change the fact that Jo doesn't like to reveal the titles in advance. The titles for the first four books were not revealed in advance at all. The ads for GOF all said "Harry Potter IV" right up to the moment that the boxes were opened and the books were set out.
Jo never intended to reveal the title for OOTP in advance - she did so by accident when she let it slip during an interview. I don't think she ever intended to reveal the title for HBP in advance either - but the hoax had people believing that the door had opened on her site because of the images that guy created.
At this point, I'm not expecting the title to be revealed in advance. After all the slip ups with HBP, I think security will be even tighter regarding book 7. The title itself may not give anything away, but we can't really say that for sure without knowing what it is.

But Jo loves us! She knows we are desparate! It wasn't like that with the first 4 books. I think Jo is a lot more aware of the fandom now. And she has her website. Don't you think it's about time that door opened?
Nicole September 12th, 2006, 11:50 pm Don't you think it's about time that door opened? Yes, yes I do! Past time, in fact, but just mho! :D

I still don't think she will reveal the title. If what she said earlier was true - that anything she reveals would give it away - then it is unlikely she will give us anything. My guess is that the door will open again and give us another WOMBAT test - there could possibly be three. And sometime in November or December, the door will open to reveal that the book is complete. Beyond that, I'm not really expecting much.
Just a sneaking suspicion I have, but I'm following my dad's motto. It's better to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised, than to expect the best and be disappointed. I would love it if she would give us something on book 7 - even a chapter title would be nice at this point - but I really don't think she is going to.

I think a lot of people are expecting the worst at this point! I guess only good things can happen with such a negative outlook on our propspects of information in the near future.
Frenullus September 13th, 2006, 12:22 am Yay, v11!! And no update! Yippee!! That means Jo's busy as a bee writing book 7! And she's 'not even close to finishing it yet'! :tu:
*jumps for joy at the thought of a 1000 lbs book.

It is kind of negative, isn't it?
I would just rather be pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed. ;) And it really doesn't look like she's going to give us anything this time around.
mugglesrock September 13th, 2006, 3:26 am I won't be disappointed as long as Jo actually writes Book 7 and she is doing that so yay I'm safe
We need more rumors so Jo has to debunk them on her site
Neptune September 13th, 2006, 3:40 am We need more rumors so Jo has to debunk them on her site
I agree...
I mean, didn't you hear about the supposed book 7 title, HARRY POTTER AND THE SECRET OF GODRIC..... it must be true. :D
SharksRNm1 September 13th, 2006, 4:15 am How do these kinds of rumours start? I mean I understand that one person says something, but I don't understand why anyone repeats them and they end up growing so large that JK has to debunk them. Has JK in the past let things slip and they got around? Did she used to have an assistant with loose lips?
marianna58 September 13th, 2006, 4:27 am I have had this inkling that Jo will not tell us the title.
I really believe that it will just be Harry Potter VII up until those boxes are opened...
It's book seven!! If she reveals the title....it may just lead to some very good guesses and maybe a few leaks.
Even though it stinks....and I'm not one for waiting for a surprise, I love knowing what I'm getting!...imagine being at the book store, release night, anticipating those boxes opening....you and a bunch of Potter maniacs...and they open them up, get on the store loudspeaker and announce the title.....oooooh.....thrilling indeed!
I wonder if that's better than telling us in advance. She'll figure it out!
anabel September 13th, 2006, 1:23 pm It's book seven!! If she reveals the title....it may just lead to some very good guesses and maybe a few leaks.
Well, maybe - but be honest - did anyone actually guess the plot of HBP from the title? Even though there was a leak right at the end that Snape was the HBP, I didn't believe it and promptly forgot about it - so the book wasn't spoiled for me after all!
Neptune September 13th, 2006, 2:37 pm Well, maybe - but be honest - did anyone actually guess the plot of HBP from the title? Even though there was a leak right at the end that Snape was the HBP, I didn't believe it and promptly forgot about it - so the book wasn't spoiled for me after all!
I completely agree. None of the titles gave anything away. If anything it just made us fans speculate and theories even more which is part of the fun in waiting for the books.
OOTP is one that I know myself, including may other guessed correctly (that is stood for a group of members who where followers of Dumbledore...) but that didn't give anything away really.
I doubt the title would be something that would spoil book 7 for us, so I don't see why giving us the title would be a bad thing. I personally think that entire wombat testing has to do with revealing the title. Maybe the next test will give us the title when she is read to give it out.

No - she would never have an assistant with "loose lips!" :) She makes everyone sign secrecy agreements!
Here is a page with some of the rumors from before Book 6.
http://www.halfbloodprince.info/
Here is the story behind the release of the Title for Book 6:
http://www.wizardnews.com/story.20040628.html
J.K. Rowling announces title of Book 6
by David Haber, Wizard News Wizard
Last Saturday, a fan reported finding the title of the sixth Harry Potter book behind "the locked door" on the official J.K. Rowling website. The new title was reportedly "Harry Potter and the Pillar of Storgé". The rumor was quickly denied by official J.K. sources, and on her own website, J.K. commented, "Storgé, for crying out loud. Come on, people, get a grip."
However, possibly due to the existance of these rumors, and possibly due to the fact that she was probably going to announce the real title sometime around July 1 anyway, today J.K. Rowling has announced that the title of Book 6 is "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince".
The announcement of the new title was very cleverly hidden on the www.jkrowling.com website
calicoangel September 13th, 2006, 3:09 pm She says she's posted the one question she's surprised no one's ever asked, but I can't find it. Help please!

Extra Stuff - Miscellaneous - NAQ (Never Asked Question)
*Thanks Dung for the first report of this. ;)*
silver ink pot September 13th, 2006, 3:23 pm Thanks for posting the Text Link to the new tantalizing question without an answer! that should make everyone nuts for a few months to come!
I went to the Flash version of the site, and read the Diary, but couldn't find the question anywhere.
Annett September 13th, 2006, 3:25 pm Our begging has helped, she finally updated the site with more than a rumor.
The Question ist in the Extra`s section, under Miscellaneous, like Sage Thyme wrotes. Mundungus has posted the link to the answer.
HP_hedgehog September 13th, 2006, 3:25 pm That Never Asked Question... hm.
It was most certainly not for Dumbledore. But why would James want to get rid of it, even if he expected to die? (He knew Voldemort was after them, after all)... I mean, Moody even had two Invisibility cloaks - are they really that valuable? And James inherited a lot of money and was really rich...
I don't know.
silver ink pot September 13th, 2006, 3:26 pm Looks like no Book Title is coming soon ~
From the News Section:
"I'll have to wait until I'm further into the book to decide which one works best."
Mundungus Fletc September 13th, 2006, 3:28 pm Perhaps Dumbledore had Hagrid remove the cloak from Godrics Hollow when he picked up Harry (or of course Dumbledore might have been at GH but unable to help because of the fidelius charm)
olive632 September 13th, 2006, 3:35 pm Great she is thinking about us again and updating her site. I like the bit about taking her manuscript with her on the plane though.
Nicole September 13th, 2006, 3:40 pm How wonderful! New information to pick over. :eyebrows:
And she may tell us the title when she makes the choice between the two...:tu:
meesha1971 September 13th, 2006, 3:43 pm Thanks for posting the Text Link to the new tantalizing question without an answer! that should make everyone nuts for a few months to come!
I went to the Flash version of the site, and read the Diary, but couldn't find the question anywhere.
I overlooked that too. Then I realized all of those were in alphabetical order - not in order of update. Tricky - clever - but tricky!
Annett September 13th, 2006, 3:54 pm Because silver ink pot wrote
that should make everyone nuts for a few months to come! and Jo said (http://www.jkrowling.com/textonly/en/extrastuff_view.cfm?id=23) There IS a significant - even crucial - answer.
I thought we need an extra thread for the discussion, here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?p=4063179#post4063179) you are. Please share your thoughts.
Nicole September 13th, 2006, 3:59 pm Jo does seem very sorry about not saying much on her website since May. Glad she is making such wonderful progress on Book 7, glad to see the NAQ (I must confess to not giving it much thought before; thanks for getting a thread up about it, Annett! :tu: ) and just glad for a few tidbits to discuss! :D
MadMagic September 13th, 2006, 4:17 pm I'm so glad she got on the plane with the manuscript! I guess if they had tried to take it from her all she would have had to do was not get on the plane, but still...
NAQ? What an interesting, slightly amusing concept. I hadn't ever really given much thought to the cloak though. I guess I should have.
I don't like hearing that she needs to get further into the book before knowing what title will work best though.
But it is something!
Tane September 13th, 2006, 4:21 pm I overlooked that too. Then I realized all of those were in alphabetical order - not in order of update. Tricky - clever - but tricky! :lol:Dito. I was like no where, where is this little question. Now I found it all we need is the answer and I think that ties in with another question asked before.
guad September 13th, 2006, 4:25 pm So, resuming there are 3 updates:
News: Working on book 7, and waiting to be a bit further in the book to decide between 2 titles-
Extra Stuff/Miscellaneous/NAQ: The never asked question, why Dumbles had James invisibility cloak, and the answer is that there is no answer but that this is crucial.
Diary: Apologies for no updating and a bit about the reading in New York.
Is that right?
valerie September 13th, 2006, 4:25 pm Yay Updates!! Oh yeah Invisibility cloak!! Been saying that fer ages!!
Thank you Jo I am not a crazy person grasping at straws WooHooo!!!!!
neoPhantom September 13th, 2006, 4:33 pm Quick question. In the Extra Stuff section just to the right of the center page, there is some writing that says "Try and finish book seven by" and the rest is covered by some other stuff, that is old right?
Liselle September 13th, 2006, 4:34 pm Now I'm just wondering what the whole thing with the invisiblity cloak is.
Just why did Dumbledore have James invisiblity cloak? Dumbledore "could" become invisible without an invisibility cloak so who was using it?
Annett September 13th, 2006, 4:36 pm Quick question. In the Extra Stuff section just to the right of the center page, there is some writing that says "Try and finish book seven by" and the rest is covered by some other stuff, that is old right?
Yes its old.
We discuss the question here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?p=4063179#post4063179).

Is that right?I thought there was a thread about whether someone else was at Godric Hollows the night Harry died but I do not seem to find it when searching Godric or Godric Hollows. I think this could tie in well with what Jo has mentioned reguarding Jame's invisability cloak. What this does suggest is that Dumbledore and Jame's new where and when Voldemort was going to kill Harry. In fact for all we know Dumbledore, James and Snape might have been discussing the whole Voldemort issue and that line just sent a shiver down my spine.
Edit:I need the thread because Snape might have told Dumbledore and James together about him telling Voldemort the partial prophecy he over heard and that he did not realise that they would go for Jame's own son. It could be why Dumbledore said to Harry that he did not understand the remorse Snape went through when they both died. Snape tells Dumbledore and James about Voldemort and where he is about to go and James turns to Dumbledore and gives him his cloak and heads off to Godric Hollows.
neoPhantom September 13th, 2006, 4:37 pm Ok, thanks!
MadMagic September 13th, 2006, 4:39 pm I thought there was a thread about whether someone else was at Godric Hollows the night Harry died but I do not seem to find it when searching Godric or Godric Hollows.
Who else was at Godric's Hollow the night James and Lily were killed? (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=89590)
Tane September 13th, 2006, 4:49 pm Who else was at Godric's Hollow the night James and Lily were killed? (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=89590)Thanks MadMagic, just saw the new made thread and posted there.
It is also good to hear that Jo is busy with the book and down to two titles.
inahans September 13th, 2006, 4:51 pm It was definitly lovely to see that Jo is doing great progress with writing the book...but now when I think about it...she has her own way of teasing us, doesn't she? Like, she's mentioned that even she hasn't decided on the title as yet (so keep guessing... :D ) and she's told us that she's nowhere near the 750 pages mark and...if this wasn't enough...she's given us another thing to discuss: NAQ.
Boy, Jo sure has her own way of getting us all excited without giving any information at all...
Villemo September 13th, 2006, 4:57 pm I'm so glad that there is update :) We have been waiting for so long and now we have it :)
anabel September 13th, 2006, 4:58 pm Imagine if they had confiscated the manuscript at the airport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tane September 13th, 2006, 5:25 pm Imagine if they had confiscated the manuscript at the airport!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:wow: :wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow: Yes imagine that. Jo might of refused to leave the country with out it in her hands on the plane.
That guy would become the most unpopular man on the planet.

I can see the headlines now -
J.K. Rowling forced to relocate to the United States in order finish book seven!
Film at 11:00.
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
MidnighterWitch September 13th, 2006, 6:06 pm  I'm so happy Jo updated.. My mood changed because right now I have to go to math class. I hate math.
echinopsis September 13th, 2006, 6:11 pm Why on earth the security wouldn't let Jo get on the plane with the manuscript? It is not as it was something dangerous, it is just a stack of paper, you are allowed to take a notebook with you on the plane. I am puzzled :wow:
Ascella September 13th, 2006, 6:17 pm She update, never mind :)
Mgan September 13th, 2006, 6:20 pm Hurray for the update!! It's only been 4 months after all lol. But every little bit makes us happy, right?
Freaky September 13th, 2006, 6:24 pm Why on earth the security wouldn't let Jo get on the plane with the manuscript? It is not as it was something dangerous, it is just a stack of paper, you are allowed to take a notebook with you on the plane. I am puzzled
Maybe she wanted to take it on in a bag - which is a no no...but like she says she managed it by taking it on tied up in elastic bands. I'm guessing that either security are not Harry Potter fans, or they were mortified at having to ask her to work something out!
YellowRose September 13th, 2006, 6:34 pm I was expecting an update as she had shot down that rumour! :)
olive632 September 13th, 2006, 6:38 pm Can anyone tell me what JK means by the mark evans situation as this is news to me. Also how could dumbledore make himself invisible.
YellowRose September 13th, 2006, 6:43 pm Can anyone tell me what JK means by the mark evans situation as this is news to me. Also how could dumbledore make himself invisible. One of the little boys that Dudders bullied in OoTP was called Mark Evans. As Evans is also Lily's maiden name it caused a storm of speculation for the longest time but Jo said Mark has nothing to do with Lily and was sorry she ever used that name like that
Annett September 13th, 2006, 7:00 pm Can anyone tell me what JK means by the mark evans situation as this is news to me. Also how could dumbledore make himself invisible.
We do not know how Dumbledore makes himself invisible, but we know that he can. In PS he was in the classroom with the mirror of erised, but Harry didn`t saw him. And Dumbledore knew, that Harry was there before.
rich_505 September 13th, 2006, 7:06 pm It seems you wait forever for a bus then 2 come a long at once... The same can be applied to updates! First the rubbish bin update and now this flurry of updates.
Everyone was right then, she was busy working on the book and that's why she hasn't updated for far. The little tid-bit about the manuscript and flying restrictions was very interesting; it's rather funny to imagine what would have happened if they wouldn't have let her take it on board :D
Aside from all of that it's good to know she's getting on well with book 7, she seems to be enjoying it but realises at least that it's the last book, I should imagine that as she gets further into writing the book she will find it more difficult to write; she's said she can at the moment comfort herself with the fact that she still have loads to write.
BublGumPnkHar September 13th, 2006, 7:26 pm If I was Jo I wouldn't have cared about them not letting me take the manuscript on the plane; I would have taken the boat. (I've been wanting to do the trans-Atlantic crossing.) It would have given Jo an excuse (no one would have known to look for her there on the boat) for more time for the kids and more chance to write, with nothing to distract me (all that water :D).
beth83 September 13th, 2006, 7:30 pm thought just occured: what on earth would have happened if the manuscript was taken at the airport. ahhhhhhhhh they may have done the worst thing possible and started leaking information!!!!!!!!!!!!
nooooooooooooo as much as i want the book i wouldn't want that!!!

To be honest I doubt any true Potter fan would steal the manuscript. Only someone who wanted to gain financially would take it, lol or someone who just thought it had been left around and didn't really know what it was :p
beth83 September 13th, 2006, 7:35 pm no sorry i ment security looking for a quick buck (more likely serval thousand)
Firebolt_Rider September 13th, 2006, 8:02 pm Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Jo! I can now spend countless hours scouring your webpage looking for something that was overlooked (instead of spending countless hours here, rereading things people wrote 2 years ago).
I am in need of a life. :p

Jeez, anyone would think she'd given us and update :rotfl: ;)
MHPFAN September 13th, 2006, 9:29 pm Wow! She's definitely making up for lost time. Thank you, Ms. Jo!
anabel September 13th, 2006, 9:50 pm Why on earth the security wouldn't let Jo get on the plane with the manuscript? It is not as it was something dangerous, it is just a stack of paper, you are allowed to take a notebook with you on the plane. I am puzzled It was in the middle of the last terror scare, when no hand luggage was allowed at all except essential travel documents and money in a transparent plastic bag. Even babyfood had to be tasted before you they let you board.
mugglesrock September 13th, 2006, 9:51 pm :rotfl: I knew there had to be an update because yesterday I saw this thread at page 4 I think and now people are posting like every hour. Thanks Jo for the update! And for that NAQ. Now we have more to discuss about. :D
My favorite update was the diary. When I read the first sentence, I went "aww"
dumbleISdead September 13th, 2006, 10:06 pm FINALLY!!!
the second i came on mugglenet and saw the headline "JK site updates galore" i was 98% sure we had the title!! so i rushed to the site before reading the article on mugglenet( i didnt want to spoil anything) and was heavily dissapointed when it wasnt there
well its ok
at least she updated
as for the NAQ, i love it
i think this fits with something ealse jo once said
when someone asked her if anyone ealse was present at godrics hollow the night the potters were killed she replied with "no comment"
she seemed very sorry that she hasnt updated recently, so im thining that means shell update more often now....hopefully once a month if not less
but id go with every month or two
BellatrixL September 13th, 2006, 10:19 pm I love, love, love that she updated! Thank you Jo!
The diary is fantastic (the airport thing made my heart beat faster, I just kept thinking: What if the security guards had taken it away from her and banned her from taking it aboard the plane? I instantly thought Jo would have settle down in New York until she finished the book! ), the news are fantastic and that NAQ is faboulus! I swear, everytime I read PS I pause at the moment were Harry gets the cloak and I think "Why did Dumbledore have it to begin with?" but as soon as I'm on the next page I forget all about it again! Well I won't be forgetting it now!
anabel September 13th, 2006, 10:23 pm I seem to remember that as Jo neared completion of HBP, the number of updates increased. Maybe this is a good sign!
BellatrixL September 13th, 2006, 10:27 pm I seem to remember that as Jo neared completion of HBP, the number of updates increased. Maybe this is a good sign!
Really? That's awesome! What was it again she started updating when she was finishing HBP? I can't remember (I'm too tired tonight!) and she didn't have the diary then.
olive632 September 13th, 2006, 10:32 pm One of the little boys that Dudders bullied in OoTP was called Mark Evans. Thanks for that yellowrose and annett
anabel September 13th, 2006, 10:33 pm I remember getting three chapter titles behind the door - I think that may have been Halloween that year.

BellatrixL September 13th, 2006, 10:50 pm Oh yeah I remember that! Good times, good times!:D

I haven't collected data about other updates, but 2005 was a scant year and 2006 hasn't been a lot better so far. But in 2004 there were quite a few updates, perhaps because HBP was at a stage where there was quite a lot to hint at. We got the book title, the Lion Man excerpt, chapter titles, and the release date that year.

MadMagic September 13th, 2006, 11:49 pm the second i came on mugglenet and saw the headline "JK site updates galore" i was 98% sure we had the title!!
Heh, I thought MuggleNet was being a bit over-enthusiastic with their headline! I wouldn't consider what we got today "updates galore".
I am quite pleased with what we got though, don't get me wrong :D

Mmmhmm I agree, If I had gone first to mugglenet and read the title I would have thought Jo revealed the Book title
I see in the comments people were thanking Micah (part of MuggleNet staff). Why, did Micah persuade Jo or something?
BellatrixL September 14th, 2006, 12:40 am I see in the comments people were thanking Micah (part of MuggleNet staff). Why, did Micah persuade Jo or something?
I would like to know too.
cemour September 14th, 2006, 2:35 am I came home from work and the phone was ringing. It was my mother. I sat at the desk with the computer while I was talking to her and clicked through my favorite websites. One is Mugglenet. I noticed that there was an update and my heart just jumped for joy. All I wanted to do was hang up on my mother to read the updates. Like the dutiful daughter I am, I finished my phone call and immediately read the updates. THANKS JO.
Yippee Yippee...Updates:clap: :D
weasleyluver15 September 14th, 2006, 2:54 am Jo- (if you are reading this) I realise that you are a busy woman, and are embroiled in the construction of the 7th novel, and updating your website should be about 1000 on your to-do list, but I am greatful that you did!!!! :D And thanks to Micah too for spurring her on:tu:

I really hope so!
I am so eager for the next book, and it is great to know that Jo has at least updated her site. I was really tired after nine hours of school, and all my himework, but now I am so happy that I am fully awake. Thank you so much Jo!
dumbleISdead September 14th, 2006, 4:58 am well it doesnt look like were getting a title for a while....if we even get it at all
but hopefully on halloween well get something such as an excerpt, quote or chapter titles
Rastaban43 September 14th, 2006, 6:55 am Did anyone notice the piece of paper in the extra stuff section that reads, 'Try to finish Book 7 by ...' Presumably, the real date is behind the business card and Coldplay tickets. I wonder if this means we will know the expected release date pretty soon?
But I definitely can't remember ... was that paper there before the update? It probably was, and I'm just getting excited over nothing.

This piece of paper is there for a while, it isn`t new. I had the impression, before there was fritten "try and finish book 6".
moonlite September 14th, 2006, 8:07 am I seem to remember that as Jo neared completion of HBP, the number of updates increased. Maybe this is a good sign! Yes, I remember too, and I really hope we'll be getting more updates soon! *crosses fingers*
By the way, has anyone noticed that if you wait for a while, the watch on the main page suddenly flashes, the dial turns yellow and has 12 hands? (Dumbledore's watch?!). It then turns back to "normal" almost immediately. Because i've never notuced that before, and was wondering if it's a new addition (or if i've just been rather blind before hehee).

How many goodies do you have in your book? I`m sure you missed one, otherwise you cleaned your cookies lately or you use an other pc because this is at least two years old. Try to click at the marble when the clock turns in Dumbledores - you receive a goody.

I guess the official at the airport thought that it was a horcrux, like the Riddle diary. :agree:
And who knows...maybe...
cfptwenty September 14th, 2006, 9:06 am do you think we'll get the book title as an xmas present like we did last time? Or do people think she's too far off completing to have one decided?
EDIT: i tell a lie, Jo released the date of publishing at xmas not the title, the title was released 6 months earlier. So what will we get for xmas?

Justafan1107 September 14th, 2006, 11:40 am YIIPPPEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the updats.
Have the flu very sick.
Never really thought about why Dumbledore had James' cloak.
Yes moonlite, I have twelve goodies in my scrapbook.
olive632 September 14th, 2006, 3:54 pm I was wondering how JK would define quite a lot towards book 7. I know that sometimes she says that she has had a good day working on the book but has written no pages. I presume that this would mean that she has done a lot of planning towards future chapters of the book. Let us hope that she has written two thirds of the book by now and that we can still expect a July or August release next year.
Nicole September 14th, 2006, 4:03 pm And I have 12 goodies in my Scrapbook - is that all of them?Yes, that's all there are...so far. ;)

You must be a hard core fan - the last time I had flu the only place I ventured was the bathroom!!! I couldn't even sit upright, not even for Harry Potter.
At least she must have made you feel better!
SharksRNm1 September 14th, 2006, 6:13 pm Why on earth the security wouldn't let Jo get on the plane with the manuscript? It is not as it was something dangerous, it is just a stack of paper, you are allowed to take a notebook with you on the plane. I am puzzled :wow:
It probably had something do with the case she was carrying the manuscript in. She said that they ultimately let her tie rubber bands around it that way - meaning she held the thing the entire flight because it was no longer in its carrying case. I'm personally not surprised, security wasn't letting people take anything on planes right when that huge scare hit. I also bet that because the scare revolved around US-Britian flights and JK was on a flight from the US to Britain, that those airlines had the most rigid rules in place.

That's what I was thinking as well. Jeff Foxworthy has a really funny bit about the airport in Atlanta. They have this big clear display full of items that cannot be carried on the plane - including a leafblower and a lantern. So, "if you're an international yard man who works nights" you're out of luck.
It's good that they're taking security seriously, but I think they go overboard on some things. Good thing someone had rubber bands for her to use. :D
mugglesrock September 14th, 2006, 9:12 pm I guess no one knows what Micah did to persuade Jo? :sigh:
Nicole September 14th, 2006, 9:17 pm I guess no one knows what Micah did to persuade Jo?Might I suggest you ask at MuggleNet? CoSforums is independently owned and operated, as is MN. Whilst CoS is the Official Forum of MN, they have separate staffs, separate servers and separate "funds". For instance, I have no clue who Micah is...at all. ;)

No problem. Most of the comments there thanked Micah so I assumed everyone would know  Thanks.
Ronni_SL September 14th, 2006, 9:43 pm Yay, Yay, Yay for an update. I bet the girl who asked the "NAQ" will be so excited to see that Jo actually refers to her on the webpage.
CoppellMuggle September 15th, 2006, 4:58 am Gosh I haven't been on any of the Harry Potter related websites or JK Rowling's Website in FOREVER! I have been trying to catch up but there is just so much information. Would someone please tell me how to work out the potions next to the plant in the Room of Requirment on JK Rowling's site? Sorry but I have been doing a lot of reading and I haven't come across anything regarding this yet? Anyone willing to help me out? Thanks!
MadMagic September 15th, 2006, 5:03 am More idle jottings (Page 1): First, go into the Extra Stuff section. Turn the radio off (if it isn’t already off), then turn it on and wait while the radio tunes itself. Listen to the program “Toots, Shoots and Roots” by Tilden Toots. He will suggest putting six drops of rejuicer (red potion) followed by three drops of the regerminator (green potion) on the flitterbloom plant. (He will also say that the next program will explain how to skin a gurdy root and what to do if Muggles hear your honking daffodils.) Leave and click on the Eraser Portkey on the desk. It brings you to the Room of Requirement. Follow the instructions with the potions on the plant, lifting each bottle in turn until it tilts and drips on the flitterbloom. Now you have another scrapbook piece, revealing (around the time of Prisoner of Azkaban) genders of teachers and some attempts for hippogriff names.
You can find more info on her website in the FAQ thread (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=90143) :)
Hope that helps!

IgoRetla September 15th, 2006, 10:25 pm Just curious. Now, how do we get Jo to put a DNA on her FAQ Poll?

Yes the words need to be arranged to say. Here I am no ring within tap five times and you get in. Then you go to the fan sites bit and you will find a ring box in there and do just what the words state

My parent's anniversary is on the 7th and my youngest son's birthday is on the 8th. A friend of mine's son's is on the 18th.
Lot's of parties! We should have one!
MHPFAN September 20th, 2006, 1:53 am Question! If you didn't take the first WOMBAT, you don't have a student ID, right? How do you get one?

That is so cool! :) Was your son born on Labor Day? My daughter was, and the moon was full, too. She and her cousin (my niece) are the same age, too, born just about 10 days apart, and now they go to college together.
PotterPig September 20th, 2006, 2:06 am Question! If you didn't take the first WOMBAT, you don't have a student ID, right? How do you get one?
I think you would probably get one when you take the second wombat; if that ever happens. I am sure that JKR won't stop someone from taking it just because they didn't take the first. I am also sure that she wouldn't expect everyone to keep their student ID after so many months. (Although mine is still on a post-it on the computer desk.)

No, the weekend after. Labor day fell on the first of the month that year. Which was a good thing because my family reunion is that weekend and, even though I couldn't go because I was huge and due any day, my mother threatened to kill me if I gave birth while she was six hours away. They thought it made a nice anniversary present - I went into labor on their anniversary and gave birth the following day.
That's how I remember that Hermione is a Virgo though. ;)
mugglesrock September 20th, 2006, 3:39 am Happy Birthday Hermione!

You can't open the secret door until the Do Not Disturb sign is removed and some other tests are involved but I have never seen this either as yet but am eagerly awaiting the next opening. Someone else here will be able to tell you what has happened before.
SageThyme September 20th, 2006, 1:31 pm In the past, when the Do Not Disturb sign is removed, we have to figure out how to open the door then solve a riddle to get the juicy surprise inside the room.
The last time, we were rewarded with the WOMBAT test.
We're hoping the next time will be the 2nd WOMBAT or the title of Book 7.
*IhopeIhopeIhope*
lindaluna September 20th, 2006, 5:38 pm Yeah - I missed Wombat 1 - I really want to get Wombat 2!
The title wouldn't be bad to release - they have to know at least 6 months before given that it goes to the publisher.
That JKR has a real knack for publicity & sales. She's a jeanius!
dumbleISdead September 20th, 2006, 10:09 pm i dont see what is so spectacular about the wombat at all
i mean, i really would rather NOT have the door open for wombat 2 unless there was something revealed to us at the end or something
IgoRetla September 20th, 2006, 10:36 pm I suppose that I may as well ask...
I entered my WOMBAT code just as I wrote it down after taking the test. Nothing. I've tried all sorts of variations, thinking I might have misprinted a capital. Nothing. Any suggestions, anyone?
zoeydsngwrtr September 20th, 2006, 10:41 pm So can you still take the WOMBAT test?
IgoRetla September 20th, 2006, 10:42 pm So can you still take the WOMBAT test?
No, it's been closed for months. It was only open a few days.
Spritey September 21st, 2006, 12:44 am I think you would probably get one when you take the second wombat; if that ever happens. I should hope so - I just discovered that the word document I was using to keep hold of my student ID didn't transfer over to my new computer too well... well, at all, really. Who'd have thunk it, I thought I was all clever to have saved it, and then technology screws me over  It would've been so easy to change it to a notepad document before the move, too... urgh.
That's how I remember that Hermione is a Virgo though.
Heh, my mum's how I remember Hermione is a Virgo. September 19th is her birthday, too. And no, I have never forgotten it was my mother's birthday and remembered Hermione's... really.
MersaPotteress September 21st, 2006, 12:01 pm No, it's been closed for months. It was only open a few days.
I wish it would open again.
PotterPig September 21st, 2006, 3:49 pm I am counting on Halloween for the door to open again. I believe it has opened on Halloween before or at least around that time. I could be wrong. I hope that if it is the 2nd Wombat we will get information at the end.
Freaky September 21st, 2006, 5:02 pm i mean, i really would rather NOT have the door open for wombat 2 unless there was something revealed to us at the end or something
I know what you mean but at least for those of us who have never experienced a door opening we would at least get that minor thrill...but it would be nice if at the end of it she could then release something like the book title or something equally special.
MHPFAN September 21st, 2006, 5:08 pm I know what you mean but at least for those of us who have never experienced a door opening we would at least get that minor thrill...but it would be nice if at the end of it she could then release something like the book title or something equally special.
:agree: Very special indeed.
Elysia September 21st, 2006, 5:14 pm :td: I missed the first WOMBAT test, too - and I'm embarrassed to think of how much time I spent trying to make up a student ID that would get me in.... never worked, of course. Wished I had some veritaserum to pour on my keyboard.
I've never been inside the secret room, either - not for the WOMBAT, not for anything. I wasted so much time trying to get the website to work properly and missed half of the good stuff. Finally someone told me to click on the UK version of the site to get in, and then everything worked swimmingly.
Unfortunately, I'd missed a bunch of cool stuff. :upset:
I'm ready for it this time, whatever it turns out to be!
Nicole September 21st, 2006, 5:25 pm I entered my WOMBAT code just as I wrote it down after taking the test. Nothing. I've tried all sorts of variations, thinking I might have misprinted a capital. Nothing. Any suggestions, anyone?I didn't trust myself to correctly copy that complicated code manually. I used ctrl c and saved it in an owl to myself. Good thing, too, as the old computer crashed since then and I would have lost the code otherwise--like Spritey did. :(

I know what you mean about us who have never experienced a door opening before. That in itself we be something to look forward to. I remember last week when she did the 3 updates I was so excited about it, it was like it was my birthday.
PotterPig September 22nd, 2006, 3:29 pm Door openings are a lot like Christmas.
WattleBird September 22nd, 2006, 3:43 pm I really wanna know what the title is!! I think that she should put BOTH titles up on a pole and we et to pic which one we like better...and then it can help her deciede = )
