Elyse December 28th, 2006, 1:14 am Well, I know that I have been sad to end some pretty good books. Just wondering if you have too.
1. Eldest. The betrayal in the end made me want to read more!!
2. HPB. I was so swallowed with greif that I really didn't want to stop reading. (i've been scared for life by Dumbledore's death.)
rgardneruk December 28th, 2006, 4:57 am I was really sad to finish "The Work And The Glory" Series. There is 9 volumes in the series and I just wanted them to go on for ever. I fell in love with the one family in the books, they are incredible books
ILoveEdward December 28th, 2006, 5:05 am I agree with both Eldest and HBP. I also was sad to finish Pride and Prejudice because I really enjoyed it. Also New Moon by Stephanie Meyer because it was so good and the next book isn't due out until next fall.
AchelRay December 28th, 2006, 5:09 am I was really sad to finish "The Work And The Glory" Series. There is 9 volumes in the series and I just wanted them to go on for ever. I fell in love with the one family in the books, they are incredible books
I know the family is just so loveable. When you watch them grow up it's hard to know that there isn't anymore.
Also New Moon by Stephanie Meyer because it was so good and the next book isn't due out until next fall.
I haven't read New Moon but Twilight was hard to finish because I knew how long the waiting list for New Moon was when I got it.
manying December 28th, 2006, 5:13 am ....OotP's graveyard scene really made me fall off my seat, after reading the whole book, i imagined how the battle will begin, it made me have insommia, you know, constructing my own continuation of the story...i am experiencing it again, waiting for the final book....it's giving the title a good pay off....Deathly Hallows, it's killing me...<help!>...
TheMagicMongol December 28th, 2006, 6:31 am Obviously each Harry Potter book. Angels and Demons was also a book I was sad to finish.
Necro December 28th, 2006, 10:42 am Lord of the Rings. But particularly, The Silmarillion.
Harry Potter too, of course.
Sev December 28th, 2006, 12:11 pm Harry Potter.
When I realis ehow great of a book it was, then how much longer I have to wait for the next book to come out. :p
baseballblondie December 28th, 2006, 12:18 pm The Song of Ice and Fire Series by George R.R. Martin. They leave me hanging and I have to wait wait and wait til the next one comes out.
Others I've been sad to finish are the Christy Miller books by RObin Jones Gunn, Emerald Windows by Terri Blackstock, Forgotten Daughter by Caroline Sndecker, most of the books by Dee Henderson, and I think that's it for the moment at least.
lord_brademort December 28th, 2006, 12:23 pm I've recently realised that though I love reading, the only books I've finished in years are the Harry Potter books.
This isn't a good sign, I think you will all agree, so I got a lot of books for Christmas and am making it my New Year's Resolution to read more.
So... I will come back to this thread in a year or so, and then answer it :p
Linda86 December 28th, 2006, 12:26 pm 1. Eldest. The betrayal in the end made me want to read more!!
2. HPB. I was so swallowed with greif that I really didn't want to stop reading. (i've been scared for life by Dumbledore's death.)
I haven't finished Eldest yet but I know I won't want it to end 'cause because of my curiousity, I read spoilers :p I agree with Half-Blood Prince too. It just ended on a high note & I wanted moreeeeee!
I was sad when I finished:
Stormbreaker. The ending was just superb but it left you wanting more.
He's Just Not That Into You. A girl's bible! The book made me feel so good & I just wanted to read on & on.
Freaky December 28th, 2006, 6:20 pm Well, definitely that Harry Potter series, but that might change when we have an actual ending, but other than that, Anne of Green Gables, certainly the first two books. By the time I had finished reading all 8 I could cope with the endings!
LadyM December 28th, 2006, 6:37 pm except harry potter (HBP mostly..), uh, The secret garden (i just really liked that book :D), Tuck everlasting (not that i wanted a sequel, but that book was lovely), the chronicles of narnia (the last battle), and the da vinci code.
trollsclub December 28th, 2006, 6:43 pm I didn't want to finish "Where the Red Fern Grows" and HBP. ELdest might be on that list.
Daemon_in_a_Box December 28th, 2006, 6:45 pm The Lord of the Rings and the last book Asimov wrote for his Foundation novels (I think it was the last book he wrote before he died). Also the Chronicles of Amber and Dune. I guess they're sad to finish because all the authors are dead and won't write any more books.
dumblewarts December 28th, 2006, 7:13 pm Beyond the HP books, I was sad to finish "The Sparrow" by Mary Doria Russell and "The Grapes of Wrath" by Steinbeck. I was just into the "worlds" of the books that I didn't want to have to leave...which is definitely why you hate to get to the end of HP...and why Book 7 will be so hard to put down at the end, knowing there will be no more.
potions_geek December 28th, 2006, 7:15 pm Among the Free by Margaret Peterson Haddix...the last in the shadow children series
Ben24 December 28th, 2006, 7:18 pm HBP, Eldest, and CoN The Last Battle.
Danio December 28th, 2006, 7:40 pm I was sad to finish Little Women. I thought it was the right point to end the book, but I just liked reading about them so much! And I was also sad to finish reading the What Katy Did books. Actually, there are loads of books I was sad to finish. I guess that's why I like rereading them so much.
Bunny December 28th, 2006, 7:58 pm I love reading.
When I get into a book, I really am into the book and I hate being dragged out of it.
The Harry Potter books definitely.
There are many, so I'll think of more.
ETA:
Lord of The Rings
Kathy Reichs books
TheMagicMongol December 28th, 2006, 8:10 pm I forgot about it but finishing The End from a Series of Unfotunate Events was very sad since it really was The End. I can't imagine what it will be like to actually finish the HP series.
prophet09 December 28th, 2006, 8:20 pm the Merlin books by T.A. barron, I wanted those to go on forever.
I recommend those books(5).
gottalovelife December 28th, 2006, 8:28 pm the original foundation trilogy
aprilpotter December 28th, 2006, 9:30 pm 1. Half Blood Prince. I regret finishing it now, IDK why. I wish I would have read it much slower. I'll probably go back and read it again today.
2. Speak. That was SUCH a good, moving book, I didn't want it to end.
3. To Kill A Mockingbird. Same thing as with Speak.
sparkly December 28th, 2006, 9:55 pm I was sad to finish Little Women. I thought it was the right point to end the book, but I just liked reading about them so much! And I was also sad to finish reading the What Katy Did books. Actually, there are loads of books I was sad to finish. I guess that's why I like rereading them so much.
There is a sequel to Little Women called Little Men. Then there's a sequel to Little Men called Jo's Boys.
For me, I always hate to end the Lord of the Rings. I find myself reading slower and slower as I get to the end of Return of the King. Thank goodness for the Appendices! I've been reading Lord of the Rings every year for 30 years, and I never want to leave Middle-earth.
Saxsoon December 28th, 2006, 10:49 pm Thr3e by Ted Dekker (yes that is how the book title is written)
I was so attached to the character, in ways I haven't with any other book, including Harry. I wanted to feel bad for him and root him through to the end. The big twist at the end made me feel so bad for him, yet I was glad that he triumphed.
The book is about a young man who is threatened by guy who is out to kill him. His childhood friend comes back to help out, as well as an FBI agent. The book studies what is really good and evil.

That is a really good book. Usually with books like that I've managed to figure out who the bad guy is, but with that one I had no clue until the very end. And then I was like, what? How'd that happen. It's one I've reread several times to see if I can pick up on it.
Elyse December 29th, 2006, 2:39 pm To add to my list, I was really sad to finnish OotP beacause of Sirius's death. I was really upset. I had sortof gotten close to the character and I didn't want him to die. The thing that crushed me most was that Harry was hoping that Sirius would become a ghost, and so did I.
hpalltheway December 29th, 2006, 5:35 pm I would honestly have to say I was sad to finish His Dark Materials Trilogy. I love those books an dhte ending was a bit depressing for me. I haven't read them in a while but I'm thinking of buying them...
foreveratlantic December 29th, 2006, 5:37 pm Besides Harry Potter, I was sad to finish Eldest, and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray.
SusanBones December 29th, 2006, 5:46 pm Books fall into the following categories for me when it comes to finishing:
1. love the ending, wish the story would go on
2. hate the ending, feeling very unsatisfied - wondering why I wasted my time
3. just plowing through to the end, just to get the darn book over with, even if I liked it
4. the ending came at the right time, I was satisfied and didn't need to read anymore
5. never got past the first 60 pages before I gave it up
I have a lot of books I was sad to finish, but can't think of any off the top of my head
EBJ23 December 30th, 2006, 2:59 am I was really sad to finish Wicked by Gregory MaGuire. It has the kind of ending were you know what's going to happen ahead of time yet while you read the book you don't want it to end that way.
OverheardInOhio December 30th, 2006, 3:00 am I was really sad to finish Wicked by Gregory MaGuire. It has the kind of ending were you know what's going to happen ahead of time yet while you read the book you don't want it to end that way.
Did you read Son of a Witch as well? I was somewhat sad to end that one because of the ending.
EBJ23 December 30th, 2006, 3:04 am Did you read Son of a Witch as well? I was somewhat sad to end that one because of the ending.
I havn't actually read Son of a Witch but I know what happens. This really has a cliffhanger at the end. I can't wait for the third book!
Danio December 30th, 2006, 7:54 pm There is a sequel to Little Women called Little Men. Then there's a sequel to Little Men called Jo's Boys.
I know, but my sister (who has the smae taste in books as me) said that they just weren't the same at all and advised me to just stop at the end of Little Women. So I did, even though I would like more of the same.
Actually, I think that's one of the signs of a really good book, when you just don't want it to end because you're so caught up in the whole thing.
qwertumz December 30th, 2006, 8:08 pm There are a lot of FanFics I didn't want to finish, but for a book, there was Holes by Louis Sachar. It had an amazing story and though everything was laid out in front of me, I couldn't see it. Small Steps felt the same.
cgold December 30th, 2006, 8:20 pm The entire Harry Potter series is about the only thing that comes to mind. It's the only book I've ever felt the need to join a forum so that I could further discuss it. I mostly read romance and mystery novels so that's perhaps the reason.
Cheers :tu:
deathplce4myhed December 30th, 2006, 8:26 pm I read this book for a reading class I as in, I think it was called Hero, it was pretty good but the ending was unfinished, I still am unsure if the kid dies or not
ravclawprefec December 31st, 2006, 9:33 pm The Red Tent. I was crying at the end, and went right back to page 1 and started over.
Also, HBP. It will be the same for book 7, I'm very sure.
TheInvisibleF January 1st, 2007, 11:51 pm Of mice and men. I wanted the hope to keep going but...
~TheInvisibleFiend~
Elyse January 6th, 2007, 2:18 pm Yeah, HP7 will definantly be a book that I will probably be sad to finnish; its the last one!!! Noooooooooooo!!!
Also finnishing Twilight wasn't sad, but sortof. (hard to explain)
IronLady January 6th, 2007, 8:56 pm The 7th of course. That'll be a crying fest.
Apart from that -The Beach. My, my, I want to visit Thailand ever since.
Ruth1579 January 7th, 2007, 10:14 am Dunno why, but the end of the Alex Rider series by antony horowitz. I used to read them constantly! One book a day and then i finished the last one and it was a bit of a cliff hanger. But yeah, them, and of course the Harry Potter books.
Emmanuelle January 7th, 2007, 10:41 am Oh God ! I have just finished Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire 3 minutes ago and I'm so shocked ! I am currently re-reading them all for the second time & I had forgotten the end was so sad ! I had enjoyed less this fourth book the first time but this time I have enjoyed it more. It definitely makes a change in the serie, the characters are more complexe, full, more complicated so is the story... Wow, what a book. Ew at the graveyard scene, it was awful, I was so tense while reading it. To answer the question, in one end I was glad to finish it, because I was like "Wow, Harry has been through so many bad things this year... Good for him it's over now". And on the other hand, I didn't want this fourth book to stop. I wanted Dumbledore to spend more time with Harry, I wanted him to comfort Harry a bit more... I wanted more explanations, I wanted more cheerful passages in the end, like when Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle are attacked, aha that will teach them ! Boo :grumble: Gosh, poor Harry !
Hmm. What others books I was sad to finish... The Ice People by René Barjavel. It's very famous here in France, I don't know whether it is the same in the US. It's a wonderful story, so moving, so beautiful, yet so sad. I read it about once every year and I always have the same pleasure
Also, Little women by Louisa May Alcott. I've loved this book for ages and I always feel a bit sad when it is over. :sigh:
And surely a few others but nothing comes to mind right now. Maybe I'll come back later !
TheMagicMongol January 7th, 2007, 7:16 pm Dunno why, but the end of the Alex Rider series by antony horowitz. I used to read them constantly! One book a day and then i finished the last one and it was a bit of a cliff hanger. But yeah, them, and of course the Harry Potter books.
Well there not over yet. Who knows how many more books he'll do but at least one more. I stopped worrying that Alex would die at the cliffhangers after he survived in Point Blanc.
Suzy_Lee January 7th, 2007, 7:19 pm This will have been said but the Harry Potter's.
I don't know how the hell I'm going to manage the last one. It's such a split, part of me wants to never read it because it will be over, and the other half wants it now.
As long as Ron and Hermione end up together, I'll be satisfied.
morsmordre7 January 7th, 2007, 7:30 pm Well of course Harry Potter.
I mean, if Harry dies there will be a national day of mourning.
And since the series is done, there will be a national day of mourning.
[well, at least for me ^^]
Of course, I hated it when The Mediator series [Meg Cabot] stopped. It just didn't satisfy my collective needs.
And Twilight by Stephanie Meyer! I absolutley loved that book!
MachineGus January 7th, 2007, 8:52 pm Harry Potters-- like everyone else has said.
I also was really dissapointed at the end of A Great and Terrile Beauty by Libba Bray.
It was an excellent book.
Tithe was one that I was wishing the sequel, Valient, had more to do with the original characters...
muggle82193 January 8th, 2007, 5:56 pm For me, probably...
1.) HBP
2.) Artemis Fowl: The Lost Colony
3.) The End (Book 13 in Series of Unfortunate Events)
4.) Eldest
I don't know if anyone has read The End, but the ending was amazing. I loved it.
Blossomlily January 9th, 2007, 3:45 pm Inkheart and Inkspell and The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. She has such an incredible style and gives some or the other new twist or element in each chapter that you actually wish you could go on and on.
I also feel sad to finish any of Sharon Creech's books, like Wanderer, Bloomability etc. Really touching...
Heidi was also rather hard to finish... books like that one are a rare thing...
pietherapy January 9th, 2007, 5:21 pm I found The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to be one of the best series I've read. I couldn't put it down. I read the whole series in just two weeks. The last book kind of finishes hurriedly, so it was hard to believe it was over.
yyyiiilllaaannn January 9th, 2007, 8:54 pm I was a bit sad to finish Lord of the Rings, because Frodo and co. had gone through so much, and I enjoyed the reading the journey so much that I didn't want it to end.
And of course Harry Potter. :)
stetson January 9th, 2007, 11:07 pm New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, Pride and Prejudice, and any book that is the last of a series. :sigh:
silverpalm January 10th, 2007, 1:07 am Definitely Harry Potter, I don't know what I'll do when the seventh comes out. -sigh-
Lord of the Rings. I like the idea of Middle Earth, I was kind of sad because I had to return to the real world. Isn't that how all good books are, though?
Elyse January 10th, 2007, 1:32 am I also was really dissapointed at the end of A Great and Terrile Beauty by Libba Bray.
It was an excellent book.
LOVE that book. really want to read the sequal!!! :)
BlakeMP January 10th, 2007, 1:35 am Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
Besides being the books that indirectly brought me to my girlfriend, it was just a masterful series.
boredumforme February 8th, 2007, 9:28 pm I was extremely sadden to finish reading HBP. I was very upset at how the book ended. It was just sad to see the greatest wizard in the world leave like that.
lord_brademort February 8th, 2007, 9:37 pm HBP
I was choked at Dumbledore's funeral
hcnbedbugs February 8th, 2007, 9:46 pm I just finished David Copperfield and I was sad to finish it. I just really enjoyed reading it.
Muggledude February 8th, 2007, 11:12 pm Every single Harry Potter book so far. After I finish Deathly Hallows, it's going to be awful. I'm going to cry... Other than the the Harry Potter series, there are a couple. One big one that sticks out in my mind is Redwall by Brian Jaques. I remember telling myself that that was one the the greatest books I'd ever read (along with the Harry Potters, of course).
ems11fox February 8th, 2007, 11:13 pm Eragon, Eldest, and the Children of the Red King series.
xFluerDelacourx February 8th, 2007, 11:22 pm Eragon, Eldest, Harry Potter, Warriors: The New Prophjecy
Mad_Druid February 9th, 2007, 12:18 am Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy. Each book had a great ending but I knew what was coming with The Amber Spyglass :(
MrVirtuous February 10th, 2007, 12:41 am Magician by Raymond E. Feist, it was such a good book that I just wanted to keep reading and not stop.
silverstarz February 10th, 2007, 1:22 am I was really sad to finish Wicked by Gregory MaGuire. It has the kind of ending were you know what's going to happen ahead of time yet while you read the book you don't want it to end that way.
Same here! I have Son of a Witch [got it for Christmas] but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I also got alot of his other books, but anyways, some other books that were hard to finish were: Eldest, Jinx on the Divide..and uhh a whole lot more *looks at my bookshelf with all my lovely books*
huckleberry February 10th, 2007, 7:17 am most of the books I read are sad to finish, but the top would be Harry potter series
Yewberryblu February 10th, 2007, 10:25 am For me it's got to be The Lord of the Rings.
I've been reading it at least once a year for the last 25 years and I still get choked at the point at which the hobbits watch Aragorn lift up his elessar stone and it flashes in the sunset, as they turn towards the Western lands again.
Even more choked when I read the Appendix "Aragorn and Arwen". :upset:
Matrinka February 10th, 2007, 4:22 pm Two books (kinda): Queen of the Darkness by Anne Bishop -- I loved the characters so much it hurt to part with them.
Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones. Same story - only I wanted a more complete ending!
BublGumPnkHar February 10th, 2007, 5:00 pm Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
I agree, I wanted to continue on with "long, tall, and ugly". Plus, another Stephen King book/epic: The Stand, I really wanted to know what happened to the survivors.
And, of course, Harry Potter. It will be satisfying and sad (the story will be done). :upset:
Anhelda February 10th, 2007, 6:59 pm I'm going to second the end of Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, and I'm sure Deathly Hallows as HP series ender will be on this list by the end of July. In addition, I would list Brother Cadfael's Penance, the end of the Cadfael mystery series by Ellis Peters, because I know the author has died, so there will be no more. Polgara the Sorceress by David Eddings is another I was sorry to see end, because he has said that he won't write any more books set in the world of the Belgariad.
AliceFO February 10th, 2007, 11:22 pm The Secret Garden.
Secrets.
Harry Potter - Whenever I finish one of the books for the first time around I go "Ok, so now I want the next one!"
Any of The Famous Five - Although theres so many I don't think I have ever 'finished' the whole series!
Maraudian February 10th, 2007, 11:57 pm  Ah, so many. Here are a few:
Ptolemy's Gate by Jonathon Stroud. It was the end of a trilogy, so I knew there wasn't more coming - the ending was sad, too...
East by Edith Pattou. Can't say why, just liked it a lot.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's hard to find a book like that, and even harder to find a good book like that.
Peter and the Starcatchers and Peter and the Shadow Thieves. Awesome plots, that's all.
The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo. It was kind of put together like The Book Thief (kind of, not really though), and it had lots of those brilliant reoccurring phrase things.
lillink February 12th, 2007, 9:50 pm I think I've been sad at the end of two books.
The End by Lemony Snicket. It was one of my favourite series since forever, and to have it end was just... not-pleasent.
The Watcher by James Howe. I guess it wasn't a sad ending, but it was a very emotional book. The whole final scene was just so well written that it was hard to not cry.
And while writing this, I remembered another book.
Ptolemy's Gate by Johnathon Stroud. It, like Harry Potter and the Series of Unfortunate Events, is (part of) my favourite series. Reading the final book, especially with the way it ended, was really sad.
And I think I can officially say I'll be super sad to finish Deathly Hallows.
Sugar_High February 12th, 2007, 9:56 pm Harry Potter series and His Dark Materials series stand out in my mind, but there are tons others that I can't remember right now.
Anhelda February 13th, 2007, 12:44 am I'd like to add one more book to my list--Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern by Anne McCaffrey is a heartbreaker of a story, with a heroically tragic ending that leaves you in tears.
Agraphia February 13th, 2007, 12:50 am I never wanted to stop reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I read it one summer when I didn't have any work or school. I literally stayed in bed all day reading for about four days straight.:relax:
House_Elf_21 February 13th, 2007, 2:35 am The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit (the series' prequel) was probably my third novel to actually finish (my first: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea...*snore*), so the Trilogy was something special to me. Yes, I was sad to finish it.
SB_Padfoots_G February 13th, 2007, 4:49 am For me it's got to be The Lord of the Rings.
:upset:
That makes 2 of us, except for the reading the book for 25 years...I'm not even 25 yet. I love that book. The next one in line would be Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. Cause I, incase you couldn't tell, have this extreme fascination with Sirius Black. Well...the same fascination I have with Aragorn...so it makes sense...doesn't it???
kh312 February 13th, 2007, 9:18 am when i was younger the dark is rising series. now the wheel of time series and ofcourse harry potter.
Matrinka February 13th, 2007, 1:23 pm I agree, I wanted to continue on with "long, tall, and ugly". Plus, another Stephen King book/epic: The Stand, I really wanted to know what happened to the survivors.
And, of course, Harry Potter. It will be satisfying and sad (the story will be done). :upset:
Oh I agree with The Stand. 1200 pages of tiny print wasn't enough. Not being sarcastic - it just simply wasn't enough. I fell in love with that book. The characters were so vivid that its amazing that they're fictional. Anyone who claims that Stephen King is a bad writer, overly cliche, or unintelligent has obviously never read this book. It was his masterpiece. :)
Loui February 13th, 2007, 7:15 pm Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Even tho I wanted to know what happened, I didn't want to finnish it.. one step closer to the end :(.. roll on 21st July.. 10 days before my bday!! woohoo!
BublGumPnkHar February 13th, 2007, 10:16 pm Oh I agree with The Stand. 1200 pages of tiny print wasn't enough. Not being sarcastic - it just simply wasn't enough. I fell in love with that book. Until Jo came along with Harry Potter, The Stand was always my favorite book and Stephen King was my favorite author, I loved when they published the "uncut version". Now we will have to see how Jo follows up after Harry. I hope it satisfies her and us.
At the time The Dark Tower Series was still being written, imagine waiting almost 30 years for Jo to complete Harry's story. There were quite a few years between the first five books, then the last two right after within a year-and-a-half's time (after his accident).
Harrys_Scar February 13th, 2007, 10:21 pm i dread the the end of hp but also can't wait
the alex rider series is great as well
_HeRmIoNe_G_ February 13th, 2007, 11:41 pm I was so sad to finish The Amber Spyglass( rom His Dark Materials)...it was so depressing and i also was sad to finish The Last Battle(from Narnia)... i absolutely loved the books...and of course I'll be EXTREMELY sad to finish HP because it seems like its been with me forever...i dont know what I'll do!
Elyse February 13th, 2007, 11:52 pm Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It was just such a good book, and New Moon still isn't out.:grumble:
And Angel Blood by John Singleton.
Love that book too!!!
New Moon is out!!! I'm reading it!!!
The 3rd book will come out late August/ early September 2007!!! go to www.stepheniemeyer.com to find out more!!!
Spirit February 14th, 2007, 3:14 am I felt sad when I finished reading...
- Of Mice and Men (mostly because it was a sad ending)
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (because I would have to wait for the next one)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (because I would have to wait for the next one
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (because I would have to wait for the next one plus Dumbledore died)
That's pretty much it.
hedwig_3180 February 15th, 2007, 12:02 am I will be really sad to finish the HP series.
Iqen February 15th, 2007, 1:48 pm -HBP
-Artemis Fowl IV
-Eragon
are the books that I dreaded to finish!
Vampire_Girl February 15th, 2007, 2:21 pm Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. After I finished reading the very last book, I started cying. hahaha...I'm such a loser:p
It just made me so sad because Lestat is one of my favourite characters out of all the books I've read and there isn't going ot be more of him...
potterbuff February 15th, 2007, 4:30 pm Obviously each Harry Potter book. Angels and Demons was also a book I was sad to finish.
I wasn't so much "sad", but when I read HBP I was sat there thinking "where's the rest...what happens now" :upset:
Angels & Demons...I take it you mean the Dan Brown one? It was a bit of an open end I thought tbh. Didn't enjoy it as much as da vinci but could've been worse!
I've read the "A child called It" series by David Pelzer. When I was reading the 1st book I felt awful cos all these unforgivable things were being done to a young child & everyone I knew had cried all through it. I felt really hard faced cos even though it upset me I wasn't very emotional, but then when I read the last chapter about him moving on etc...that was it. Floodgates opened lol
Elyse April 6th, 2007, 7:33 pm To add to my ongoing list.....
New Moon (I finnished that many months ago)
Uglies
Pretties
Specials
xhanax315 April 6th, 2007, 7:38 pm Half-Blood Prince. Dumbeldore's death was very upsetting....:upset:
lily_of_erised April 6th, 2007, 7:48 pm Oh, mostly every book I read (and I read a lot).
But I was especially sad when I finished the book 1984. It was extremely interesting (but intensely depressing).
IntricateLogic April 7th, 2007, 2:25 am Well, I know that I have been sad to end some pretty good books. Just wondering if you have too.
1. Eldest. The betrayal in the end made me want to read more!!
2. HPB. I was so swallowed with greif that I really didn't want to stop reading. (i've been scared for life by Dumbledore's death.)
I agree. Eldest was so disappointing to finish. I got to the last page and was like 'oh maaaannnn...' Can't wait for Book III to come out!
HPB was sad, plus the end was sort of a cliffhanger. Now we have to wait till this summer for the next/last one.
Carb_King April 7th, 2007, 2:34 am Eldest- I hated the wauy it ended. It reminded me of The Empire Strikes Back: A bunch of action and little resolution.
Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment- I read this and I almost died at the end because I wanted more but I was on a road trip and didn't have time to buy the sequel.
flimseycauldron April 13th, 2007, 3:49 pm Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. After I finished reading the very last book, I started cying. hahaha...I'm such a loser
It just made me so sad because Lestat is one of my favourite characters out of all the books I've read and there isn't going ot be more of him...
I'm not really into Anne Rice's stuff but I will have to say that I fell in love with Witching Hour (the first in the chronicles of the Mayfair witches) although the sequels stunk quite frankly.
Love Clash of Kings, Game of Thrones, etc etc Series by George Martin. Last one wasn't great but it didn't feature John Snow or Daenerys (sp?) so I will wait diligently for the last.
I adore Janet Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie should so be with Ranger. Morelli is boring.
I was sad there wasn't a sequel to The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. What a powerful story.
And I've bought Under the Tuscan Sun several times because I keep wearing it out.
The first book in the Bartimeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud The Amulet of Samarkand.
Just reread the Swiss Family Robinson. Loved it.
hcnbedbugs April 13th, 2007, 5:04 pm The Thirteenth Tale, By Diane Sutterfield. It was just such a good book I didnt want to be finished with those charactors. I think I may read it again.
InsaneKira April 13th, 2007, 8:16 pm I never wanted any of the Harry Potter books to end.
hedwig_3180 April 13th, 2007, 9:58 pm Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. I hope Bella will become a vampire. I think I will be really depressed at the end of New Moon, though.
xhanax315 April 13th, 2007, 11:55 pm I was actually a little upset to finish Twilight, it was so sad! :upset: I wanted to know what happened, but then I didn't because I was agraid of what would happen.
lunyluna April 17th, 2007, 11:27 pm I just finished reading "Ark Angel", the lastest book from the Alex Rider series and i'm little sad because it was soo awesome! It dosent have as bad as a cliffhanger as "Scorpia" did but I still thought it should have gone on longer.
The other book I was sad finishing was "Maxinimum Ride:schools out forever"- I loved it and I just found out that there is only one book left to come out; that sucks!
Oh and of course Harry Potter...
Elyse April 18th, 2007, 12:36 am I agree. Eldest was so disappointing to finish. I got to the last page and was like 'oh maaaannnn...' Can't wait for Book III to come out!
I didn't think that the ending was a disapointment, I was just sad to finish it. All though it shouldn't have had such a cliff-hanger ending, I guess. :grumble: I need the third book to come out!!!!
Malakian April 18th, 2007, 1:39 am the Narnia series.......just cause l loved them so much, and the last book was strange in a sad sort of way.
MidnighterWitch April 18th, 2007, 8:32 am The truth series by Dawn Cook.
It was a very nice ending, but more bittersweet. It had it's sad moments and something happened at the end of the book that I cried.
The Dream Trilogy,
Three Sister's Island Trilogy,
The Irish Trilogy
The Garden Trilogy... by Nora Roberts
I tend to get too attached to romantic novels that usually have ghosts or witches in them.
Elyse April 24th, 2007, 12:56 am The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo. It was kind of put together like The Book Thief (kind of, not really though), and it had lots of those brilliant reoccurring phrase things.
Desperaux is my HERO!!!!!!
Oh, I finnished Rebel Angels in like a week. That was a really good book. I thiink my parents were a tad annoyed at me because I couldn't stop complaining about how I didn't have anything else good to read.....!!!
Pegasus April 24th, 2007, 4:22 am I love Kate DiCamillo.
I can't really say I've been actually sad about finishing a book. I did get angry enough to throw a book after it ended, though: Of Mice and Men.
auricachan April 24th, 2007, 4:47 am I'd have to say HBP - I was so devastated that Dumbledore died! As for non-Harry Potter books, I was sad at the end of Little Women and The Diary of Anne Frank.
ginnypotter19 April 24th, 2007, 12:15 pm Hmmm, I believe it was called Gathering Blue and I can't remember what the sequal was called, but the sequal was much better even though the other one was sad. It has a third book (I don't know how far it goes) But I can't finish it because my library claims that they can't order it because they don't know the title! :grumble: Stupid Library.
:D Not really, the library's my second home. :D
Hmm, I can't think of any other books yet.
BublGumPnkHar April 24th, 2007, 6:43 pm Hmmm, I believe it was called Gathering Blue and I can't remember what the sequal was called, but the sequal was much better even though the other one was sad. Hmm, I can't think of any other books yet.
May I offer a suggestion? When I can't come up with a name of a book, I go to one of the book-sellers (like Amazon), and if I don't know the author's name I put in the book title and when it appears, highlight the author's name and find all the books by this person (which will usually give me the name of the elusive book). I order enough books that I don't mind using them for a "finder's service" once in a while to find a title.
Wright1771 April 25th, 2007, 9:54 am 'The City and the Stars', and 'The Half Blood Prince'!
Eliya April 25th, 2007, 10:35 am Chronicles of Narnia.... it was amazing to read them! And Dandelion Wine, which is a really amazing book!
ginnypotter19 April 25th, 2007, 1:11 pm May I offer a suggestion? When I can't come up with a name of a book, I go to one of the book-sellers (like Amazon), and if I don't know the author's name I put in the book title and when it appears, highlight the author's name and find all the books by this person (which will usually give me the name of the elusive book). I order enough books that I don't mind using them for a "finder's service" once in a while to find a title.
Thanks! Oh, and the Amoung the Brave and so on serious by Margret Peterson Haddix. Anything by her is good, and normally sad... Though, I do think I spelt her name wrong. I'll edit it here in a minute.
hcnbedbugs April 25th, 2007, 7:13 pm Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer, because I really loved the charactors in the book and the next book in the series is checked out from the library at the moment:grumble:
freelantzer April 26th, 2007, 5:48 pm I was sad to finish A Prayer for Owen Meany because I felt so close to the characters--I actually missed them when it was over!
ADnotdead777 April 26th, 2007, 9:07 pm Sons of destiny this was the last book in the very entertaining Cirque Du Freak seris
ginnypotter19 May 4th, 2007, 3:13 am Yes, Cirque Du Freak The Vampire Prince was pretty sad to finish, but I'm not done with the series so I still have a while. :D
redhead_warrior May 16th, 2007, 1:40 am WAIT, do you mean books that were sad to finish because they made you cry? or books that you were sad to finish because you wanted to keep reading more?
if you meant the first one, then my answer would be : Lord of the rings, (return of the king ) peter and the starcatchers, the rules of survival, and define normal.
if you ment the first one, my answer would be: harry potter (duh) the Eragon series, the Alex rider series, the lightning thief series, and the Inkheart/Inkspell series
:agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree: :agree:
my army of nodding smilies agrees. :agree:
Elyse May 25th, 2007, 10:45 pm I mean, books that you didn't want to finish. But I guess that this thread can be for books that you cryed over, too!!!! :upset: :)
HarryPotterLover May 25th, 2007, 10:48 pm Too many to list here. It is as if I just wanted them to continue on & on I liked them so much. I want to know more about what happens to the characters etc.
lupislune May 25th, 2007, 11:32 pm If we are strickly talking Harry Potter, then Half Blood Prince. It seemed so final. If we are talking all books, I would include, The Great Gatsby as well as All Quiet on the Western front.
NarcissaWeasley May 26th, 2007, 1:04 am I'd have to say wuthering heights, gone with the wind, east of eden, circle of friends and of course every HP book..
jordmundt6 May 26th, 2007, 9:14 am Wuthering Heights? Really? That ending, with Heathcliffe's own nature consuming him and a rebirth in the next generation was a necessary relief. Ah well, I suppose we'll never agree on that one.
Oceania May 26th, 2007, 9:31 am I was terrible sad to finish....
The Dark Tower (series by Stephen King)
Lord of the Rings (Tolkien)
The Sandman/Dreaming (chronicles by Neil Gaiman)
The Vampire Chronicles (Anne Rice)
And I will be awfully sad when I finish Harry Potter, I am sure.
Ya' know, books, especially series that are dear to you, really represent an era of your own life. When that last chapter comes to a close, it's a sadness and relief, and it almost feels as if a certain chapter of your life has just ended as well. I don't know, maybe that sounds dramatic, or cheesy, but books have always been SO important to me---as an escape, an inspiration, as tomes of knowledge and different points of view. I am always a little bereft when I finish any book, but those I listed above really got to me.
I dread and can't wait to read Deathly Hallows. It will definitely be the end of an era.
Reading a book changes you---even if it's just the tiniest bit. :)
NarcissaWeasley May 26th, 2007, 10:59 am Wuthering Heights? Really? That ending, with Heathcliffe's own nature consuming him and a rebirth in the next generation was a necessary relief. Ah well, I suppose we'll never agree on that one.
The ending's my favourite part :D Especially when the ittle boy sees the ghosts of cathy and heathcliff up on the moor at the very end.
Ginger98 May 26th, 2007, 5:09 pm The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon because I was attached to the characters.
Johnny Angel by Danielle Steele is a tear-jerker.
Remembrance by Jude Deveraux is the one I read over & over, & want to see past the happily-ever-after.
I'm sure there's more, but I'm also one of those who hate to see a book end. Thank you for starting this thread! I'm actually making a list of books to read, & am itching to get to the library, but I'm stuck at work. *snarl*
I_See_Thestrals May 27th, 2007, 4:21 am Minus the fact that I didn't understand the book, The Great Gatsby.
Other wise, Flowers For Algernon, The Game by Ken Dryden, and All Things Possible, by Kurt Warner.
Nineteen May 27th, 2007, 12:40 pm I was terrible sad to finish....
The Dark Tower (series by Stephen King)
:wow: Me too! I don't know many people who've read the DT series, but every one of them didn't want it to end. I think it's his greatest work, I read it whenever I really need to escape. I think it has meaning on so many levels.
Also I didn't want The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough to end, it was so beautiful.
Wholockedupstan May 27th, 2007, 3:05 pm Im going to be sad when Harry Potter ended. When Series of Unfortunate events ended so fast I was sad:err:
know_it_all May 27th, 2007, 9:13 pm In the Hp series, i'd say HBP, i just wanted more, and fast.
In general, the Autobiography of Santa Clause (that book is brillian:lol:), and Peter Pan :P
Atomic01 June 22nd, 2007, 9:16 am Magician by Raymond E. Feist, it was such a good book that I just wanted to keep reading and not stop.
Bringing up an old topic.... MrVirtuous, you are aware that there are currently 24 books in this series? Enough to keep anyone happy for years (and the series still isn't complete! More to come ;) )
Melsmel June 22nd, 2007, 11:04 am I was sad when I finished John Marsden's tomorrow series and the sevenwaters trilogy by Juliet Marrilier. To good to end.
General_Maximus June 23rd, 2007, 9:35 am Ender's game, ender's shadow, both great books that tell the same story from diffrent points of view, not revolutionary but well done. And although there are other books after these in the series these two are my favorite
MLynas June 23rd, 2007, 10:54 am I was sad to finish Assasins Quest, from the Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb. It has such a bitter sweet ending. I read the Liveship books and the Tawny man trilogy which does continue the story of Fitz but to me the first three books where the real deal.
mac_attack June 23rd, 2007, 3:18 pm Besides all the HP books, ummm.....
The "jewel" series by Lynn Gardner, The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards, The Book of Bright Ideas by Sandra Kring, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott (hated the ending)...
That's about all I can think of right now...basically, if it's a good book that I enjoy reading, I'm sad to finish it.
potters_queen June 25th, 2007, 10:26 pm i think it was sad to finish the last book in The Chronicles of Narnia, The Last Battle.
silverstarz June 27th, 2007, 3:59 am the titan's curse in the percy jackson and the olympians series by rick riordan. it was soo good and i hated having to stop there. i'm soo ready for the next book!! :D
hplova15165 June 27th, 2007, 4:02 am I was sad to finish the Nancy Drew series and His Dark Materials series.
bookkid June 29th, 2007, 5:28 pm The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. I really did not want that book to end
devonforever June 30th, 2007, 6:42 pm The Historian by Elizabeth Kostava. And the end is very very open indeed.....
Onyma June 30th, 2007, 6:59 pm Everworld - the ending was horrible and inadequate, and nothing was brought to an actual conclusion; I wanted to know what happened with Ka Anor and see what other Gods the characters would encounter. Otherwise, I am always sad to realize that I've read everything there was to read about a particular character, but as far as the books themselves go, I don't mind finishing any one of them.
NarcissaWeasley June 30th, 2007, 8:48 pm The Historian by Elizabeth Kostava. And the end is very very open indeed.....
I didnt know quite what to make of that.I enjoyed it for the most part but it was just so..odd at places.I never really knew at the end whether she was actually claiming certain highly unlikely things were factual or was it just a fictionised plot mechanism.
Meh,might read it again when i get the chance.:)
devonforever July 1st, 2007, 10:26 pm The honest answer is google! Brilliantly open ended though, which I enjoy...
Kelfa23 July 1st, 2007, 11:03 pm My favorite books of all time I was sad to finish. This does not include the Harry Potter books because I knew I'd just be waiting for the next in the seires (however, I will be sad when I finish the 7th book).
These books include Twelve, Candy Girl, The Da Vinci Code, Summer Sisters, West Side Story and a few others I read during school.
flickerandfade July 1st, 2007, 11:07 pm 'Cat's Eye' by Margaret Atwood. I have never been so sad to finish a book in my life.
owlchick9 July 1st, 2007, 11:16 pm Half Blood Prince. I'll also be sad when I finish Deathly hallows.
vanilla_lace July 1st, 2007, 11:36 pm Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.
Totally brilliant book.
Was so sad when it ended.
SiriusLoveGirl July 1st, 2007, 11:39 pm All the Harry Potter books, particularly OotP, HBP, and GoF. I'm gonna be REALLY sad when DH comes out...
I was also sad to finish the DaVinci Code, The Series of Unfortunate Events, and Peter Pan.
Fury July 2nd, 2007, 4:38 pm Eldest (second book of the Eragon series)... I was reading it again this weekend and I was really sad to have finished it. I wanted more!!
Elyse July 24th, 2007, 9:29 pm I finished Deathly Hallows on July 23, and I have to say that I am soooo sad about finishing it!!! It still hasn't sunk in that this was the last one and that their will be no more after it!!!! Deathly Hallows was a book that I had waited for for soooo long and now I'm really sad to have finished it so quickly.
I still have a strong feeling of longing for more Harry, but I do have to say I have a strong sense of closer for this one.
I see that many of you have posted that you are sad to finish DH.....I knew that this thread would be good for something!!!!!!
_Avada_Kedavra_ July 24th, 2007, 10:52 pm Finishing Eldest was pretty sad for me. Hopefully the 3rd book comes out soon...
I'll probably cry when I finish DH.
raz320 July 25th, 2007, 4:27 am The first 5 books of the Xanth series.....because you lose all of the main characters that you grow to love after that
LoonyPuaLove July 25th, 2007, 5:25 am I was sad to finish Little Women. I thought it was the right point to end the book, but I just liked reading about them so much! And I was also sad to finish reading the What Katy Did books. Actually, there are loads of books I was sad to finish. I guess that's why I like rereading them so much.
Ditto on Little Women! I was so sad to finish that. It's my most favorite book ever. Even though Alcott wrote Eight Cousins, Little Men, etc... well, I just wasn't that impressed.
Also I was sad to finish Deathly Hallows. The end of the series. No more Harry Potter :-(
Rustyspoonman July 25th, 2007, 6:17 am There were quite a few books that I did not want to finish. The first one is Cleric Quintet by R.A. Salvatore. It had a strange plot for the hole series. In the third book the father hires an assassin to kill the main character, in the fourth book the father(a powerful wizard) tries to kill him and fails. In the fifth book he is forced to destroy his friend that becomes a vampire and the some of the people that helped raised him were also turned into vampires. After this the main character(Cadderly) becomes a minor charcater in other books written by the author. The best character though is Pikel Bouldershoulder a dwarf druid with dyed green hair and has a cookin pot for a helmet.
A series that was kind of a let down was the Hunter Blade Trilogy. Drizzt and the Companions of the Hall along with the dwarves and humans prepare to fight a massive orc army. The series sets up for an epic fight in the end between Drizzt and the Orc. After the fight neither are dead and leaves it open for the next series, shich was a bit disappointing.
I was also sad when I finished the whole Harry Potter series not much of an explanation is needed here.
LuvHP_001 July 25th, 2007, 7:47 am Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Obviously. Haha.
I felt so empty after finishing it. There is no more Harry Potter to look forward to and I am not a fan of the movies.
whitney2243 July 25th, 2007, 7:59 am umm i agree with eldest and new moon..also i really was sad to finish the narnia series cause they were so good and im sure theres more but nothings coming to mind at the moment
Ressurected July 25th, 2007, 8:10 am Finishing Eldest was pretty sad for me. Hopefully the 3rd book comes out soon...
Yeah, Eldest was pretty sad, and so was DH as well :(
twisted_angel July 25th, 2007, 11:34 am I love reading so any books that really draw me in and keep me hooked till the end I never want to finish. Apart from the Harry Potter books Philip Pullman's Dark Materials Trilogy I didn't want to end.
Megin July 25th, 2007, 11:49 am Private Peaceful, Jamaica Inn, loads of books :D
YellowRose July 25th, 2007, 2:02 pm Deathly Hallows.
LeGoogelGuRu July 25th, 2007, 2:40 pm Silverwing was a great book. I'll eventually have to read Sunwing and Firewing, the sequels.
imacheeto July 25th, 2007, 8:23 pm Deathly Hallows because now Harry Potter is OVER!!!! what'll I do with my life?!?!:upset:
SiriusLoveGirl July 25th, 2007, 8:26 pm Deathly Hallows, of course.
Inkheart and Inkspell. I reeeeally wanna read Inkdeath now.
hedwing July 25th, 2007, 9:02 pm Deathly Hallows no doubt but also Eldest.
NikMalfoy July 25th, 2007, 10:29 pm Of course all of the Harry Potter books, especially HBP and TDH, with them "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown, "Meg" by Steve Alten, and "The Loch" by Steve Alten. The Loch was a very interesting story and a new twist on the Lochness Monster.
Twitchy July 26th, 2007, 3:34 am Obviously each Harry Potter book. Angels and Demons was also a book I was sad to finish.
Bingo! Angels and Demons was a fantastic book that I actually read when my father and I were traveling in Rome Italy!
Sheree July 26th, 2007, 3:51 am Deathly Hallows, obviously!
With every page I turned, I was looking for an excuse to stop reading just so that I could hold onto it a little longer!
Ah, how silly I am!
Robinho July 26th, 2007, 4:15 am I finished the book on sunday, and its now wednesday and im filled with nostalgia. theres no more looking forward for the next adventure. i been very sad the past 4 days.:(
AcmilanAP July 26th, 2007, 4:27 am Deathly Hallows of course and probably The Thousandfold Thought(Prince of Nothing is a great series by R. Scott Bakker btw).
all4music July 26th, 2007, 5:42 am Getting to the end of The Chronicles of Narnia usually inspires a lot of tears...every time. I get all mixed up between happy and sad about it. In fact I sniffled a bit just thinking about it now.
Breaca July 26th, 2007, 4:50 pm I was sad to finish HP: OOTP cos my favourite (Sirius) died. Also HP: HBP cos Dumbledore dies (my next fave).
Non related books I was sad to finish were Boudica: Dreaming the Serpent Spear by Manda Scott. Such a sad story, although inspiring, and based on what really happened. I was most sad to finish the quadrilogy:upset:
Credo Buffa July 26th, 2007, 4:56 pm I was very sad to finish Return of the King, because it, like DH, is the end of a very long and emotional journey. But in general, if I'm reading a book of any sort in which I find myself emotionally invested, there's a bit of sadness at the finish. Reading a great book you've never read before is such a great gift, and you only get that experience once with each book.
Impossamole July 26th, 2007, 5:02 pm I can't recall ever feeling such a great mixture of sadness yet elation when finishing any other book than DH.
I think it is because the HP series has been unfolding for so long (ten years from the release of the first book until the last) and i've been with the books from the start that i felt closer to the characters.
There have been plenty of other books that have made me sad/cry when reading them but never when i had finished them.
jamie_h July 26th, 2007, 9:02 pm Deathly Hallows. Harry potter is the only real series I read so Deathly Hallows is the only one.
Semprax3 July 27th, 2007, 12:21 am Honestly, I'm sad to finish any book. I get so into it and feel to attatched to it, I'm sad to let any book go. I agree that DH was deffidently the hardest. You read every word so carefully not to miss anything, and when you're done, you're sad. :[
Artemis_Black July 27th, 2007, 12:24 am DH, of course! I'm rereading it for an audio recording of the books that I'm doing for a friend.
loonyluna0114 August 7th, 2007, 3:00 pm Well Harry Potter seven for a start, I was absolutely devastated, I just did not want it to end at all cos I knew that that was going to be it. THE END. It was awful, I was on a bus the same day that I finished it and really had to stop myself from just roaring my eyes out all the way home I just couldnt stand it.
frag12 August 7th, 2007, 3:18 pm I was very sad to finish Return of the King, because it, like DH, is the end of a very long and emotional journey. But in general, if I'm reading a book of any sort in which I find myself emotionally invested, there's a bit of sadness at the finish. Reading a great book you've never read before is such a great gift, and you only get that experience once with each book.
i remember when i finished ROTK-i stayed up all night, lying on my bed with eyes open...my mind was totally blank,i felt sad and depressed
i eventually got over the feeling when i started reading the appendices.....but with DH,the case was very different
as i closed the final chapter of the epilogue-i was teary-eyed,my vision was obscured and i was so,so,sooooooooooooo sad.
i started reading the HP books just before the GOF book came out and ive been reading it for so long that i thought that the books would never end and there would be another book after that, another after that....
but sadly, all good things must come to an end.when i finally read all of DH for the first time, i went back over previous pages with the memorable moments in them-ron+hermione's kiss, the dialogue and fight between voldemort and harry and gave out a deep breath and a long *sighhhhhhhhhhhh*.
YFWE August 7th, 2007, 7:30 pm Only two come to mind for me...
First would have to be DH... and for obvious reasons, of course--- no more Harry Potter!! =[
The other would have to be The Amber Spyglass, part of the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman.... and for the same reason as DH! Except... replace the characters in HDM instead of Harry Potter, of course. =P
Link00seven August 7th, 2007, 8:09 pm I'll be honest - I don't read all that often. However, as I approach the end of HP7, it'll be sad to see the series come to end.
_everlastp0tter August 7th, 2007, 8:20 pm Harry Potter - DH
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
His Dark Materials

Artemis_Black August 7th, 2007, 8:20 pm DH, for sure.
I was sad to finish The Children of Hurin, too.
daronisgod August 7th, 2007, 8:56 pm LOTR: FOTR, TTT & ROTK.
Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: mostly because I knew it was the last one. :(
xxAmyxx August 7th, 2007, 9:26 pm I think the Harry potter series they are such good books and i've grown up with them.
popcornzyum August 7th, 2007, 9:58 pm Deathly Hallows, Just because i didnt want HP to end.. :upset:
Miss_Darcy August 7th, 2007, 10:27 pm Believe it or not, I was actually sad to finish The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons by Dan Brown.... huh. I'll go on and add HP and LotR series to that list, because I'm always sad to come to the end of an on-going thing... I've nothing to look forward to, now....how depressing.
rainie_hp August 7th, 2007, 10:34 pm Harry Potter

Dred August 8th, 2007, 4:18 pm Harry Potter DH - it's the eeeeend
His Dark Materials - The end is just so sad
I don't think other books made me sad...
Ressurected August 8th, 2007, 5:10 pm Well, I know that I have been sad to end some pretty good books. Just wondering if you have too.
1. Eldest. The betrayal in the end made me want to read more!!
2. HPB. I was so swallowed with greif that I really didn't want to stop reading. (i've been scared for life by Dumbledore's death.)
Yeah, I was definately sad at the end of Eldest, and I don't know why, but I was more sad when i'd finished HPB than when I finished DH, which is really weird :S
Marie0903 August 9th, 2007, 12:31 am Like most everyone else, I was sad to finish DH eventhough I was happy with the outcome. I picked it up in the morning and began to read it again!
I was also sad to finish The Time Traveler's Wife. I've read that about five times now.
Zubairi August 9th, 2007, 1:15 am Hpdh
DragonWing August 9th, 2007, 4:38 am well, besides HP of course, I actually cried when I finished Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy! The end of that was heartbreaking. I wish it could have gone on forever.
dweaselqueen August 9th, 2007, 7:46 am Any one of the Harry Potter books, especially DH. I'm always sad when I come to the end of them.
I was sad when I finished Eldest. Partly, because I was disappointed that I had been right, and also because I wasn't done reading it yet! I wanted it to go on (especially since I read the excerpt in the Deluxe Edition of Eldest, now I'm sad every time I finish it).
Blofeld August 9th, 2007, 7:52 am I was sad at finishing Deathly Hallows.
As for Eldest, I'd had a feeling since the first book that there was something with the father, and I was not happy at being proven right; that twist stank of Star Wars. :grumble:
somerandom592 August 9th, 2007, 7:57 am dh- i still can't help re-reading the series over and over again obsessively
princesscrunk August 9th, 2007, 9:13 am Books I was sad to finish:
1. Deathly Hallows {but thats a given}
2. A Child Called IT. {SAD}
3. Goblet of Fire.
4. Where the Red Fern Grows.
Barney August 9th, 2007, 10:00 am DH - of course
Bleak House - Dickens - I loved the characters
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austin - again, I loved the characters
One Hundred Years of Solitude Gabriel Garcia Marquez
A prayer for owen meany - John Irving
Blind assassain - Margaret Atwood
The Multiple Effects of Rainshadow - Thea Astley
I'm really not going to miss the practice paper I'm trying to read at the moment - I'll give you all an example of one paragraph:
"Except for the small business 15-year exemption, the small business concessions are applied after any current year and prior year capital losses have been applied to arrive at the net capital gain. If there is more than one capital gain, the small business entity can choose the order in which capital gains are reduced by its capital losses. If the small business 15-year exemption applies, capital losses are not reduce before applying that concession"
I really, really , really hate tax law!
Alains August 9th, 2007, 11:02 am There are many books I were actually sad to finish. Of course Harry Potter, but also Artemis AND the wish list also by Eoin Colfer, whisper and all the other books, that were good and you had to love the characters...
lemonbeansprout August 10th, 2007, 11:39 am i was sad when i finished Harry Potter like most people.
I was really sad to finsh Spies by Micheal Frayn i wasnt sure why exactly though, cos i was studying it in english and the fact my teacher kept finding sexual referances in it made it rather boring, but i was also sad to see the characters go in a sense.
I was sad when i finished Lolita by Nobokov because its such a sad book.
