View Full Version : Sent or received a letter to JKRowling or to the actors?

I wonder how many of you, Harry Potter fans, have sent and thereafter received a letter to your favorites people involved in the Harry Potter world.
I, particularly, sent a letter to J.K. Rowling just to say “Thanks for such wonderful books and blessing her marvelous mind.”
Three months later I received a letter from England!!! I know this letters are likely Xeroxed since she can’t have the time to read them all. However, I DO believe she writes the original.
For example from my letter I can highlight the following phrases:
"OotP is a long one - even bigger than GoF. Though I really don't think I've rambled".
"There are a lots of questions to be answered along with all the new developments"
"I have just had a baby boy called David"
I have already started book six"
With very best wishes, J.K. Rowling
I have this letter as a treasure. It means a lot to me. So have you ever written a letter to her or the actors? Why? Did you receive an answer? How it make you feel?

Sometimes at night, when I am falling asleep I plan a letter to JKR, but when I get up I never have te courage to write to her. I don't want to be annoying to her, but I think in the summer I will have to write to her, and let her know how she has changed my life through creating her world.
You are very lucky to have had a letter from JKR, you are right to treaasure it, hold it close to your heart.

I'm like Justin, I will often fall asleep thinking about what I would write in a letter to JKR, but I never do it. I remember once I seriously considered doing it and decided if I got a response I would frame it and put it on my wall. :D But I didn't for some reason. Maybe I will this summer. It would be really exciting to get an answer back I think.

I wanted to send JK one of the 'Harry Potter' clothing items I found. And also a jumpsuit when she had her baby. But i'd feel foolish doing it.

She seems really busy, and with the amount of fan-mail she does get, I wouldnt want to be a hinderance to her writing of the books!

Eactly my sentiments Mad AMcca. And how would you address her. Would it be JKR, Mrs Rowling, Jo, Joanne, Ma'am???

I think I wrote Mrs. J.K Rowling (I don't quite remember).
And well, I don't think she reads ALL the mails. She has a secretary to do so. Maybe she goes through some. I wrote a short letter, not my will or a three pages letter, just to show her my gratitude, and give her good wishes. Maybe it had three short paragraphs. Really, I wasn't expecting a letter back, but it was cool to receive one. It's funny because the letter says it's from the Owl Post.
The first sentence says that she appreciates receiving feedback from its readers, and thanks me for writing her. I don't think that she gets bored for that. I mean, if you do something like writing a book is because you want to be read, you want fans, and it's great to receive good feedback from them

I wrote a letter to her a few months ago, but never sent it....it was really long, and I addressed it to Ms. Rowling, since i have never seen her as the "mrs" type. Then again, that was before i knew she was pregnant...so i guess she is a Mrs now.

No, I didn't write one for her. I think she hears about her fans from pages like this, and knows we all love her and the series. I don't want to fill up the mailbox to an overwhelming length now. . .

I wrote her one a really long time ago... it must have been even before Goblet of Fire came out. I got a copied letter like JofpGallagher got and also a "signed" photo. Even though I know she really didn't sign it, I still love it and it's taped to my wall. :o

Flobberworm, I got the same thing! I wrote her a letter after CoS came out, filled with tons of questions about the wizarding world. I was naive enought to think she would personally answer it. :o I only wish I had copied it, but I do remember asking her why Harry's parents weren't ghosts. It was a handwrittern 3 page (front and back) letter. I still have the generic reply and the little signed picture thing of JKR. It's in a box somewhere. :D

I wrote to Rupert Grint, and I recieved a signed picture, and a letter (both done in blue felt tip - how cute!).
I wrote to him about a year ago, and the letter just says about how he'd finished filming COS, and how he hated the spider scenes. I was soooooo pleased with it! It now takes pride of place in my HP shrine on my bedroom wall!!

I haven't written to anybody.
But I have also thought about it while going to sleep. I guess I'll never get it done and actually send it off.
And it has to go overseas with another stamp, which I have plenty of.
I'll think about it...

Where do you write to? I guess JKR is c/o Bloomsbury and the actors are c/o Leavesden Studios? It would be a bit mean to write to them personally - though if I was an actor I'd like getting more mail then my Dad!

well... I've never written a fan letter to anyone related to Harry Potter books or movie yet. I've been really involved in some of the fan stuff for an artist years ago... and let's just say I've figured out and learned everything about the 'behind' part of the fan stuff.... and since I've never written a letter, I never received a letter.

I wrote JK and she responded in two months time. Saying how pleased she is to have so many adults fan who openly admit that they are fans of the series and how she was just making finishing touchs on the fifth book. Basic generic letter but hey its nice :) and I like letting people who are good know I adore their work!

I wrote a letter in February, thanking her for book 5 and asked a few questions, was about a page on computer, I even wrote it in Harry Potter font!
I still havn't got a reply. I actually cried when my mum said in May she doubted I would get a reply. I feel so let down, I know how many letters she must get but it's the first time I've ever gotton the courage and then I hear all about your replies...it hurts :(. I even wonder whether it got there, I sent it to bloomsbury.
I want to write to Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman, I think I'll do Alan this week.

Dear Mr. Bradley,
I am a huge fan of the way you so incredibly and accurately portray the character of Argus Filch, and especially of the funny bit in the Chamber of Secrets DVD where you show how to put in Filch's fake teeth.

What about writing to Mrs Norris? You have to write to her.
Anyway my main point was to say that i've written another letter to JKR and one to Alan Rickman. Both ready to send tomorrow. I really hope I get a reply from them.
Can I just ask if people hand wrote their letters? I typed mine, it would take up less room yet it's less personal. I'm worried now.

I am planning on writing to JKR and some of the actors this week. I wasn't planning on doing it but I read all the replys and everything about people getting signed pics and stuff and that just sounds toooo coooool. Even if they aren't really signed I would still love mine. So, I've copied down everyones address and I'm constantly going over letters in my mind but i'm still worried. Should I expect a reply? If so how soon? Should it be hand written or typed? I want a picture but should I ask for it, or would that seem to rude? The actual people probably don't even read them so I am probably overanalyzing. Oh well. I'm still worried.

You know, I never thought about writing any of them. I wish JK had a website. Many of my other favorite authors do. They usually include how to send them a book you want signed and all of that. It would be so cool to send her PoA, my favorite so far, to have it signed by her.

Ooh, I'm all enthusiastic about going off and writing a letter! But who to... JKR, obviously. For a moment there I thought of Richard Harris, but unfortunately I don't think that one would get through to him. :(
I should write to the boy who plays Dudley, I bet he doesn't get enough nice stuff. What's his name again? Harry something? I'm confused now... And the chap who plays Percy, he's a nice fellow as well. And Fang, I've heard he likes his fan mail...
Ah well, I best bounce off and begin writing, aye?! :D

I wrote a letter to J.K. Rowling after the release of the 5th book, saying how she had better get the 6th book printed and ready to go, because people will be annoyed because she killed Sirius Black and she would lose a lot of fans. I didn't get a letter back from her, but I did get one back from the publisher, saying that she would take my comments into account and she was sorry about how sad I was that Siri died.

Well, in the past experience, I have gotten incredible responses through fan mail but my plan is to target behind the scenes people and/or write when the thing is new. (My brother got both X-Files stars autographs because he wrote them in fall of 1993!)
Anyway, obviously, JK Rowling is too busy in the era of Potter-mania. But since she is only 11 years older then me, I assume that perhaps 20 or 30 years from now, things will have died down and perhaps when my future children are into reading the books, and JK is long since retired, we will send some fan letters to her about her long-ago written series and most likely, she will be able to send personal replies again. Just need to have Patience.
However, I also like Dan Radcliffe, maybe someday I'll drop him a line. (you NEVER know)

I'd like to wait until a few years after she has finished writing the series, and then I don't think she'll be as busy or get as much fan mail. Then, I will write her a very very nice letter thanking her for everything she has done for all of us and wishing her the best and all that. And I'll hope with my whole heart that she can write me back. I wouldn't even mind an automated reply, come to think of it. I just want to let her know personally that I think she's a fabulous person in every way. Cheers, Jo!

Well, I wrote Jo soon after GoF was replied. I checked and double checked it before I sent it to her, but in the end I forgot to put the return address in my letter, so chances are quite slim I'll ever get my answer.
“OotP is a long one – even bigger than GoF. Though I really don’t think I’ve rambled”.
“There are a lots of questions to be answered along with all the new developments”
“I have just had a baby boy called David”
“I have already started book six”
“With very best wishes, J.K. Rowling”
I have this letter as a treasure. It means a lot to me. So have you ever written a letter to her or the actors? Why? Did you receive an answer? How it make you feel?
Hey, can you give the address of some of the actors, so I can send them some letters? please? or send me an owl. please.

I've often wanted to, but I havn't.
I feel that if I write to her, I'll be disrupting her routine, even if she does get lots of those cardboard/plastic boxes they carry the mail in.
Though, I have thought about what to say to her if I ever did write to her, or if I ever did get the chance to meet the woman. Be it now, of 10 years from now.
These books have changed my life. (Sorry, they have. . . .) They've also changed the way I look at literature, and people in the world. It shows how you can go from nothing to something if you've got the right way to say it.
So, thank you J.K. Rowling for your oustanding literature.

I sent JKR a postcard last year saying happy birthday..the postcard was HP of course. I didn't get a letter back, becaus I didn't put a return address on the postcard. I was going to make a card and send it to Dan Radcliffe but I didn't have time.

Alfonso Cuaron looks like my band director!! :p
(back to reality, sorry about the randomness.) I'm thinking that if I ever wrote to JKR it would in a couple years when the craze has died down, that way I would know she actually had time to read it and wouldn't feel guilty that I'd annoyed her. I've had a couple of those moments where you fantasize about meeting her (followed by the long list of others) and I know I'd love to send her one, but not now. I'd probably just depress her anyhow.

My friend wrote Dan and got a reply, and then we got an idea from another book- we wrote him a letter saying how much we worshipped the dirt between his toes (I don't, she does  ) and would he please send us a dirty sock. That one never got a reply :rotfl:
That was a little dumb, don' you think so? because i won't do that if i were you.

Eh, Sure, I would like to. But I would never get around to doing it. And, with my luck, I would not get a reply anyways :p
So, I am just taking joy here from reading your all's experiences. :D

I wouldn't want to get a lame reply, because I might think less of them, but if I were to, I'd send an appreciation letter instead of a peice of paper with messy writing asking for an autograph, saying I love you, and including a billion red hearts on it. :) It depends what kind of mood I'd be in, but it'd definitely be a long letter.
I would feel guilty to bother the actors and actresses, + Jo anyways. I think of it as something annoying when they're so busy....Hmm. For now, I'll try the editors. They don't get as much fame. Poor them...:upset: ...they rock. I shall send my appreciation to them in a banana peel because it's lucky. :eyebrows:
I hope you know I was joking. Banana peel?:rotfl: Hehe. I will send an appreciation letter, though. :)

I wouldn't mind sending letters to Rupert Grint and Tom Felton, cause they are the same age as me, so, even though they are like big actors at the moment, it would be nice to correspond with someone my own age! I wouldn't be saying things like "oh I love you!" and other things because that would probably freak them out! lol!
I wouldn't mind sending one to Emma Watson and possibly Dan Radcliffe too! I would actually feel a bit scared to write to JK Rowling! lol!

I know, it's kind of scary when you send a letter that you don't know very well, I think.

IF I got a reply, it would be one of ht most memorable moments in my life :p
Ah.. Happiness is fun, but its hard to come around the kind of happiness that ACTUAL non copied replies bring :)
Owell, may as well dream on 'cause its never going to happen

I know because it will be cool to have a reply form an actor, actual reply, not copied replies as you said.

I just read through this thread and thought that she (j.k.r.) seemed really open about the progress of book 5 (adding finishing touches etc.) and then i thought maybe she would be the same if someone wrote to her and asked about book 6. So has anyone yet - if so share your news cos i'm dying to know and I'm too scared to write to her myself!

I sent a letter to Rupert Grint in February this year... and still haven't gotten the reply. People say it does take him a very long time to respond... so I am still hoping. [how lame is that? :p]
I did receive once or twice an e-mail response, so it's cool too.
I may try to write to other HP actors, because everyone seems to get a reply from Emma, Matthew and Phelps twins.

I would love to write to the actors and JK to say how much i love their work, but (and please don't laugh if this is a stupid question) how do you know the addresses of where to send them? are they on their fan sites, and if so is there a place in the Chamber Of Secrets that has this information?:scared:

I sent an e-mail to Tom Felton on his official website, but he didn't mention me or answer my question when he updated. Yeah, I was disappointed, but I'm sure he was too busy to check out all of the e-mails, what with studying for his GCSEs and filming GoF.

I've sent a letter to JKR 2 years ago in the 6th grade. For a class assignment, we were supposed to. And about a month later I got a reply. It's one of those things I treasure a lot. I suggest anyone who wants to to write to her. Her letter starts off...
"Thank you so much for your letter about the HP books. I am delighted to hear how much you like them. I think letters like yours mean more to me to most writers..."
And I've sent letters to Dan, Rupert, and Emma. Except I didn't know I needed extra stamps to send to the UK, so I only had the extra ones to Emma. But I do sure hope I get a reply.
On my JK letter, the address was handwritten. Does anyone know if JK wrote it herself?

I sent an email to Jamie Waylett via his web page and got a lovely response just 3 days later! It wasn't just a mass email as his response included comments directly related to my letter. I was quite pleasantly surprised!
