Duel to get potions or buy them of Fred and George.
I don't think you can target the eggs until you've eliminated all the doxies.
I find dodging alot helps, but my other two characters get poisoned. Just keep fighting. Even if your the last one standing you can give them Wiggenweld potion to get them back on their feet.
Once the Doxies are gone and you can target the Eggs and use Carpe Retractum on them to pull them off the tree.

Did someone played PoA, PC version? I passed all challenges, except the last Buckbeak's ride..but I still needing 11 wizard cards and non student want to help me!!

I've played it.
The only reason I bought the XBOX and PC is because they are so different (but I think that the XBOX one is better).
For buckbeak's challanges just take it slowly. When you flap you get some upwards force and you can always turn around to get the one you missed.
The students won't give you cards that you can still get. I.e. you can get around hogwarts or go back and get in challanges.
You also get cards from the Pixy challange and the Book challange.
I don't know which cards your missing specifically so I can't really help, I suggest you get a walkthrough from Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com).
I will tell you that once you are short of 1 card, go to Fred and George and you can pick it up for free (but only once you have all the others), then you go to a room similar to the bonus bean room, and you have to pick up all the Special Hogwarts cards (there is no time limit though, it ends once you get all the cards).

Thanks, I finally won the game, but just because I passed Buckbeak's ride.
I didn't know that about the cards...at the end I was needing 10 cards but I went to talk with Dumbledore, who sent me back home.
I think I'm starting again!
Thank you.

Me and my friend were playing my Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban game for PS2. Anyway, we're not very far and we're already stuck. We're at the Neville and the Ghoul level and we're at the Hinkypunks part. We already learned "lumos" but we can't seem to do anything after that. Help!
They're Himkypunks!? I thought they were ghouls! same as above.

Hey! I'm having a little trouble with the Prizoner of Azkaban game for PC. I get through Ron's and Hermione's final exams no problems, and then I come to the Glacius final exam. I get past all the fire crabs and get the shields, and then I get to the floor where all the imps are, and the salamanders that appear after a certain length of time. Well, on this floor my control of Harry goes really dodgy - it's fine for all the other floors and with all the other tasks on the final exam, but when i get to this one it's really difficult to control Harry, it's going in sort-of slow motion and I'm finding it hard to even pick up crackers (which I usually have no trouble doing). Is this a fault with the game? Is this supposed to happen? If so, could anyone give me some tips as to how to deal with it?
Thanks a lot! x

Another question regarding CoS PC game. In the spongify challenge, we (my daughters and I) are missing 4 secret rooms; consequently we don't get all of the silver wizard cards. These are the secret areas found so far:
1. First room - gnomes thrown in holes, then the lumos appears and secret room opens above.
2. Second room - gnome & imp thrown in holes, secret room appears.
3. Room with firecrabs - when flippendoed in their little holes, room appears below.
4. Upside down painting in hall - alohamoraed into secret room below hall.
5. Room with 3 imps - thrown in hole, lumos and secret room appears.
6. Room with pixies - lumos to star
7. very large room with pixie and owl and large columns; lumos walk down steps and spongify to room across columns.
8. small lumos room after dropping floor with two spiders - after spiders are killed, then floor goes up to lumos, and little secret room is down the hall.
9. Room with footprints on a column; alohamora face tile on wall and secret room opens.
10 - 12. 3 rooms right at the end of the challenge above the large spider that is dropped out of a web.
If anyone can help it would be great! Thankx

Well I can remember 1 other (long time since I played it)
It's where you have the "moving staircase" where you must flip the picture to make the staircase go down (I think it reviels a secret).
But before you do that jump through the picture on your very left just as you enter.
You can tell which one it is because when you wave your wand, the dot disappears when you aim at it.

I've completed it about 3 times on the XBOX, which should be the same.
I find that first you should activate Lumos, then run up to a Hinkypunk (visible as smoke and with a lantern), then target it to shine the light on it. Keep moving closer until it becomes solid, then flipendo it. It's not that hard to get past if you have it all worked out, but hinkypunks can be annoying.
It's not the knowing what to do bit thats hard, just the doing it! Do you know how hard it is to dodge a lantern whilst trying to kill another hinkypunk?

Has anyone played the new PS2 version of PS/SS and if you has, can u tell me how much better it is compared to the PS1 version and can you swap characters like in POA?
Also, don't you think the ending on the PS1 version of CoS is rubbish? I got all the cards, did all the duels, and went into the founder's duels secret room and all there was was a boring book of character illustrations! :( (sorry to dissopoint some of you)

PoA's the first time you get to swap chars, even if it is annoyingly easy to be stuck at a load of Hinkypunks it is the best of the lot.

In PoA, the Carpe Retractum challenge, does anyone know how to set the block of ice onto the switch? The way the floor is set up, Hermione can only push the block right past it! I've gotten the block of ice, beam of light, etc. is there something else I'm missing? Thanks! :D
GodricHollow
August 10th, 2004, 7:50 pm
Can't you push it? I havn't got that far yet, the closest I've got is Hinkypunks and that Glaciys thing where you push the ice block up to the switch after freezing it and climb onto it.

Yeah! It's another one of those blocks of ice and you can push it in a square pattern along the floor. But the quare isn't even, there's just enough overhang so that the block doesn't fall on the switch- where you want it to go. But I finally got it! there are crates that Hermione can flipendo/reparo. The trick is positioning the block of ice and the crates so that the crates force the block of ice to stop at the switch.

Please, for the love of baked-goods, someone help me before I have a mental breakdown! This is why I can't play video games lol My patience wears thin because I absolutely cannot get past this darn Patronus Challenge. I may have jumped the gun in asking about a previous challenge because I figured it out almost minutes later... however, this particular challenge in PoA is really taking me days. Sad, but true.
What I need to know is how to move the last block. The, field I guess, is shaped like a big flower. I've managed to use Carpe Retractum to get to all corners except for the last one. There's no getting over there! Please let me know if there's some type of pattern or other means to make it to the last corner, thanks! :D

The trick is to do each corner in this order (facing the initial starting direction):
Bottom Right corner
Bottom Left Corner
Top Left Corner
Top Right Corner
Heres my crude map/key:

i have completed them all. I thought the 3rd is an age past the other 2 in games play and enjoyment! I still think though that the map needs to be bigger. Like the actual size of all of hogwarts. Maybe not for the PS2 version because its not capable but most peoples pcs i think would be able to!!!

¡Hola! Well, I've finally finished the PoA game. It took me extra-long because Blockbuster wanted it back and stuff :) But there are some lingering things about it that I think I most likely have to do over...
1. I didn't finish the card collection  I think there were about 10 that I never found.
2. (and this is why I think I couldn't find the rest of the cards) there were fixtures on the walls all over the place. They were fairly small and could be auto-targeted, but I never figured out what to do to/with them...
3. (and this is another reason why I think I couldn't find the rest of the cards) The locked doors. In the other game we were eventually allowed to open them but I never was able.
-The room beyond Fred and George's bathroom had a locked door. There were obviously steps leading away from it into all sorts of things I'll never know about! :upset: lol
If anyone would um, like to tell me maybe how I could go back and rectify any of these things, I would really appreciate it :)
edit: 4. In the shortcut from 7-4 I think, there was a Carpe Retractum thing on the floor but I didn't see any way in which Harry could use it there...

These stumped me too at first! These are part of the challenge that Ron must undergoe. If you enter Fred and George's bathroom with Ron (it is different with each character btw,), you will notice that one of the items up for sale are stink pellets (10 in a box). Once you purchase the pellets, you will witness a CG, where Fred and George give Ron the directions to complete the challenge, not unlike the way they did it with Hermione's statue challenge. Your goal is to target and through a stink pellet into all twenty of these 'fixtures on the walls all over the place.' Haha, it is pretty easy, but there are alot to find. I am missing one myself, and it is driving me crazy. I'm not sure exactly what you get for completing the challenge...but thats what they are there for! Good Luck :D!

If you stand in the correct spot, the little dragon-type thingy will come out of the floor on the other side of the chasm. On the other side is a treasure chest with a wizard card in it. At least I think that is the secret passage you are talking about!

I think that you have to get rid of all the pixies and then the "carpe-retractum-thingy" appears.
-The room beyond Fred and George's bathroom had a locked door. There were obviously steps leading away from it into all sorts of things I'll never know about!
This leads to the "challange" where you have to get the maurauders map.
However there is a button (hermione has to crawl under the grate to get it). Then a bridge should appear.
Get rif of the fires and have one person step on each of the 3 switchs in the floor. Then a card should appear in the very centre on the pillar.
Harry can use carpe retractum to get it.
There are cards in the maurauders map "challange" area. If you missed them you might be able to buy them off Fred and George.

I was at the store and saw PoA for $10. I got all excited thinking they had made a mistake in the pricing. I was going to truly own my first game for my new GameCube! :D But it was the PC game lol I'll buy the regularly priced one eventually...
Anyway, you guys are great! Stink pellets? I never would have figured that out. I'm hopeless with games most of the time but I love them nonetheless.
Thanks once again to xharrypotterx! And also to Mumps! *runs off to the game*

My son who is 6 is obsessed with the Quidditch World Cup game and expects his mum to be good enough to help him out. I can't seem to do some of the special moves as detailed in the inventory. Manage combos just about and occasionally score with volleys but what about the rest. and why don't I ever get a team special move and if I did how would I use it? It's the PC version we have.

Thanks to a LOT of perserverance, a certain friends' walkthrough guide and a heck of a lot of luck I'm at the part where your trying to get back to the dorm in "The Patrounus", this is after I've got the spell aforementioned and Snape/Filtch is about, they get to my end of the corridor and don't budge for centuries, then when I do move I'm nabbed! Someone help me please!
Altohugh WHY they didn't think to put a certain invisibility cloak in I don't know... :upset:
Scrap that. Finished it precislet half an hour ago, not that much to do now, a few cards, a few stink pellet things, statues, folio bruti....
Where's the Oilphaunt statue? (I've got one more to get after that but I can't remember it,) and what are Harry's challenge things from Fred and George's shop? I've bought out evrything (pretty much) for him and there's no sign of a challenge any where.

Where's the Oilphaunt statue?
Alright, check this out:
Go to the fourth floor
In the back of the room, to the right of the fire place is a 'dragonifors' statue that Hermione can activate..this opens an archway.
Inside to your left is the statue. This is also a secret passageway to the seventh floor.
If you can tell me the last statue you are missing, GodricHollow, then I can help you find it! :rotfl:

To use the team special move, you have to press the ' enter ' key on the keyboard ( Default Setting ) . You can get the team special move by performing combos and other special moves. I have a cousin who's 7 years old and he likes the QWC too

Generally if it's in a rectangular box, it's the PC version. Square box is Gameboy or Gamebody Advance. DVD-like clamshell cases are console. If you missed THAT one, make sure you know what you're buying! A game for gamecube will have "gamecube" written on it.
The HP games aren't exactly super-high-priced fare anyway. They usually debut at 30 bucks, so it's not a mistake. I will say they are completely different games, so do check out the console version if you get the chance.
If you stand in the correct spot, the little dragon-type thingy will come out of the floor on the other side of the chasm. On the other side is a treasure chest with a wizard card in it. At least I think that is the secret passage you are talking about!
This is triggered by killing the pixies on the other side.
Look up when inside the room. There is another secret room in here.
2. Second room - gnome & imp thrown in holes, secret room appears.
After this, when you continue in the level, you'll find a room that has spongify tiles that propel you forward over a large gap. But to the left, there is also a ledge that you can climb onto that leads to a ledge under a sunlit window and another spongify tile. After getting the beans, jump onto the tile to yet another ledge under yet another window. Use your wand to look for a hidden door in the wall. Alomohora. The rest of this is relatively self explanitory.
3. Room with firecrabs - when flippendoed in their little holes, room appears below.
4. Upside down painting in hall - alohamoraed into secret room below hall.
There is another painting that you can walk through without hitting it with any spells or whatever.
That's all I can remember. Hope you find them.

:rotfl: Yeah, at the time I was having some sort of common sense lapse. I'm still laughing at myself for considering that the GameCube game might have been $10, even in Target. Said lapse only lasted about 15 minutes though. I didn't actually buy the game and wonder why it wouldn't fit in the GameCube. In my own defense though, it wasn't clearly labeled lol

My nephew finally helped me figure out this one. You have to jump on the light colored tile at the top of the stairs. This opens up a spot in the ceiling that you use the spongify tile to reach.

How're you supposed to save it after you've seen DD in PoA PS2? I've seen him twice, loaded it up again and it's thrown me back to before I saw him!!!

Melanor,
If you go in the bottom room you find a faucet. Take it back to where there are two with a space in the middle to place the one you just got. Go to the right and up and freeze the water. This stops a waterfall. Go in the area you can now access behind the waterfall and flip the switch. Keep doing this until all the donut looking thingy's are going and then freeze them to walk across them to the door you can't reach and continue.

sorry to jump in like this, but has anyone played the HP game for GBC? It's so loyal to the actual book it's scary, plus, they have actual witches and wizards cards to collect (about close to 200), so you never really finish the game, it's awesome. I have 197 as of now :D

I have a question:
The trio needs ingredients for Snape's class so they have to go outside (its snowing by then) and then they go up to Hagrid and he tells them they have to lure out these creatures into the lake (forgot the creatures name). My sister used Ron's lumos spell to lure this huge bug looking thing to the lake. What does she do when she lures them to the lake? Are the bugs supposed to go in. If so, how do you do it?
also, what are cheeseperfuls (sp?)? we need to look for those too. How do you get them?

I'm desperate for some help in the incendio challenge of CoS for PS2. I've been there for ages, and I just need to get out. I've got the spell book but I can't get out of that room with the boars that breath fire when you light them. I've tried different combinations with lighting the boar heads down the two tunnels, but I can't jump to the side of the room with the door and the two buttons. help?

If you want to use a walkthrough, try GameFaqs. Here's the link to the CoS walkthroughs for PS2:

Cheesepurfuls are the blighters you need to get out of the bush, and also the things that your sister got to the lake. Use Ron's Lumos spell to lead them to the plants just ahead of where they are, (Work with me on this, it's been a while since I did this bit.) and the plants'll eat the things, then spit something out, grab three of the spat out bits and that's them done.
For the lake thing fly Buckbeak down to the shaft of light and use Harry's hookibg spell, (that proves it, I can't remember that spells name!) to hook out three of the things in the water, try and get it right, it takes practise, need any more help then just owl me.

I'm having some issues in the First Day of Term challenge on PoA for GameCube...I got the walkthrough, and it's not really helping. I'm in the room where you have the three "hotspots" on the floor and you have to put the box on one and Ron and Hermione on the other two. The walkthrough says to push the box to a "wardrobe" and have Harry climb up and then have Hermione push the box to the hotspot. I only found two things that I could push the box in front of and have Harry climb up, so I assume those are the "wardrobes." However, Harry can't make the jump from the last bookshelf to the ledge where the switch is. How do you get over there?

Yeah, I was doing it right, you just have to take a run and go at it...Harry was just falling off the edge instead of jumping, but I finally did get him to jump.
Now I have to manage to kill all those fire breathing lizard things...but this game is much, much easier on the GC than it ever was on the computer...man.

A couple weird quirks in the console game:
If you jump off the wrong edge where there is no intended "jumping puzzle" (for example, if you jump the corner instead of the edge) then your character will do a quick turn and grapple the edge instead of jumping.
Also, only one row of bookcases in this room will let you jump to the ledge you need to get to.

Stuck at the cauldron boss now...I can get him to blow his arm off by glacius-ing him, but once the arm is off, what do I have to do? I've tried flippendo-ing it, but it just gets sucked back to his body and he's back to full strength. Do I have to freeze it again after it gets blown off, then flipendo it? Bah...I apparently suck at video games.

Hey guys, I would love to have a HP game for my PC, but I'm kinda a game moron. Will you answer some basic questions for me? Do I need special tools like a joystick, or can I operate the game by keyboard? Am I showing my age? I guess that's the only question I have - do I need gaming tools? Thanks!

November 23rd, 2004, 11:14 pm
You can operate it with a keyboard, but it's harder. The console games are much easier to control, IMHO. You can also purchase a Nintendo-style controller for your PC which would probably help substantially. You do need to make sure your PC meets at least the minimum and preferably the recommended requirements to run the game -- otherwise you'll be disappointd and it won't be much fun.

I'm playing Harry Potter: Quidditich World Cup and just unlocked Bulgaria. (Krum is in the house!) I'm curious, to unlock the Quidditich card that enables me to get their Team Special Move, I have to win a game without scoring! I'm assuming that the only way you can win is to catch the snitch. What is the best way to get that Snitch bar up without letting the other team get it higher than me?

i'm having a bit of trouble with quidditch world cup for the gamecube. the problem is the sixth challenge (combos challenge). how the frap am i supposed to do that? they don't explain it very well within the game and i seem to have misplaced the instructions booklet (i hate when that happens).
whenever i try to do a volley pass, i usually get it, but when it comes to doing a volley shot and score is where i always mess up. i'm trying to get that hufflepuff card and this is starting to get frustrating.
the question is, how exactly am i supposed to press the buttons. L+B/R+B?etc. at the same time, or hold R/L/R+L and then press A or B or what?
i would check gamefaqs but the QWC boards are all empty. please help.
EDIT: seems this wasn't nearly as hard as i was making it out to be. i did it not five minutes after i posted this. i now feel silly. never mind and thanks anyway.

If you are still stuck :: Shine lumos on them until you can "see" them and then flipendo them. There are 2 batches of them. Seperate them from each other the best you can - just watch out for the fire ball thingys. After they are all gone do the "light the big ball thing" Hope that helps a little.

i have a question for the PS2 Prizoner of Azkaban. all of my characters are poisoned but i only have 1 antidote and i dont know where to go to get more. I'm trying to catch doxy's i think theyre called (flying creatures) near Hagrids Hutand they poison you. I cant buy antidotes from fred and george because the door leading to them is locked (i believe its the 6th floor?) Ive also looked in some bushes but all i find is health.
where can i get antidotes?!
the hinkypunks took forever! All you do is shine the light on them and then hit R2 (to aim) and then hit flipendo.
the problem is when you hit R2, ron will aim at a different hinkypunk. its a pain! try and get them spaced out from eachother and once you get down to 1 its simple. There are 3 more after that though.
ALSO: after you beat the first 3, take a healing potion!!

To get more antidote you just have to walk Ron around anywhere with books or shelves...he will get them until he gets around like 10, then he'll start to get every flavor beans..........at least that's what i do...

Actually, the poison goes away by itself after a while. You loose a little life but if you don't have any more antidote, it's an option. You can also find it in a bookshelf, just have Ron search for it.

I found it easiest to shoot some quick Patronuses  first to clear a path. The dementors are a bit slow so if you are fast so if you hurry you can make it though before they fill the gap again. Then hold the triangle button to fire a charged Patronus. You have to press X to make it "Charge" otherwise it won't have enough power to make it across the lake. It takes about 3 charges to reach Harry and Sirius. You have to repeat this about 4 times before you've beaten the dementors.
Good luck! :tu:

I just beat CoS for PC, and thought that the final challange was pretty cool. Some tips...
The basalisk pokes just his head out of the statues mouth first. That part is easy--controlling the sword is the same as controlling spell, aim and power up by holding down the left button. Just don't stay in one place for too long, and be warned, you can't move as fast when your charging of the spell; in fact you can barely move at all. When you beat that part, the basalisk starts coming up randomly through those vents in the floor. He also shoots poison that sticks to the floor and hurts you if you walk over it. His main poison attack is a near straight line which he will use to get you into a corner. If you hit him, he writhes in agonye and sprays poison everywhere, it bounces off the walls too so watch out. A tip: while you're waiting for him to pop up, power up your spell. If you relaese it when you first see him he'll duck it, but wait too long and he'll lunge at you. Another tip: don't fall into the big, dark pit. Sounds pretty basic but my little brother didn't seem to get it! :)

Is there a support group for addiction to these games? Once I start playing, I CANNOT STOP. I've lost full days plaing these silly games. :)
Question - has anyone found ALL secrets and ALL cards in the CoS game or the PoA game?
Question 2 - Are the games different for playstation, etc.? I see people talking about antedote, etc, and I don't remember needing antedote in PoA for PC, or am I remembering it wrong?
I've got a cheatsheet for CoS which I'm not yet ready to read. There's a gargoyle in one of the challenges that I cannot figure out for the life of me. I have no clue what his purpose is. But I've got to play the game again to figure out which one he is.
Also fun is finding little hidden things that I totally missed in my first couple of times playing it.
Ok, I'm at work, but I might sneak in for a little quidditch practice.

Yes! It's in the skurge challenge before you get to the first pixie. Ok, it's all coming back to me, and I think I know what his purpose was. It also might have been the one challenge star I couldn't find for that challenge. Cool. Thanks for allowing me to walk through that mentally.

I only played it on PS2 but it might be that same:
Get close to a hinkypunk, cast Lumos on it and hold it until it start to appear (watch out for the other hinkypunks, they are quite tedious) and then hit it with Flipendo twice. I think that there were 6 hinkypunks all in all.
