By the way, is that Sirius or just anyone!
It could be anyone, but it's pretty much meant to be Sirius. I drew the original doodle last week while imprisoned behind the convenience store counter on my Sunday job. :grumble: I planned to do something with it eventually.
Today I actually intended to add a few more chapters to Mary Rotter, but my little pet rat Nash died this morning :'( and I wasn't in the mood to do anything funny, so today was Azkaban's day.
Friday the Thirteenth, yet....

Sorry to hear of your loss, Inkwolf. I know it is hard to lose any pet, having lost a few in my lifetime. My condolences.

Wow! its exactly how I imagined it. Is that the shadow of a dementor on the wall?

Inkwolf, once again, I love your work!! That picture is amazing. It truly shows what Azkaban would look like. It's depressing and dark, exactly like Azkaban. Wonderful!!

Wow, that is a great picture.
It's nothing like I imagine Azkaban, in my imagination it's a white, light place (huh? I'm weird) with small cells.. something like a hospital but with bars instead of walls..
but I still like this picture because it really captures the mood of Azkaban, when it's described. Great job!

Eeeek... that is spooky. I don't think I want to go to Azkaban... :scared:
How do you manage to capture such a great mood in pictures? It's completely marvellous!

How do you do it Inkwolf? The power in that picture is astounding, the shadow on the wall disturbing. It sums up everything I've heard about Azkaban - great job!

How do you do it Inkwolf?
Thanks! :D
I'll take the question literally.....
It started with the original sketch which I doodled in a slow period at work--you'll notice the handlebars of Snape-on-a-bike next to it. :p

I scanned it in, and all the computer graphics work was done in Painter 6.1. This is Sirius as originally completed, in the original size.
He was painted using the Airbrush and Smooth Ink Pen brushes.

I spent some time thinking about what to make the walls and floor like, and one of the things that crossed my mind was the hexagon patterns of a beehive or hornet nest. I drew a hexagon pattern for the floor, and had the computer generate the scaly rock pattern under it. Then I skewed it for the right angle to be on the floor.

The very dramatic walls are mainly a trick of the computer program. I had decided the best and most depressing walls would be slimy black metallic stalactities...like alien fangs. I made the black-and-white image below by using the Airbrush brush, white on a black background, very transparent, at several fifferent widths. Then I used the 'Creat Surface Texture' command based on image luminance to convert the black-and-white drawing to a simulated 3-D surface, with the lighting colored and adjusted to the appropriate effect. Then I copied and pasted the wall into the final picture. It's pasted in twice, skewed to the right angles to give the walls perspective. Then Sirus was pasted in on top and various shadows were added.
The Dementor shadow was selected and darkened, and the tonal control button used to suck all the color out of the shadow. It didn't show up that well, so I airbrushed a little color outside the edge....which made it look too crisp. Then I got the idea of using the smudge control to give it the feel of sucking in all the joy around it, like a black hole.
That was pretty much it...this picture didn't actually take that much time to create, since so many effects were used rather than hand-painting everything. Ony Sirius and some of the shadows and smudges were hand-painted.

It looks completely different to your usual style Inkwolf but it looks absolutely awesome - not that I'm surprised.

Inkwolf, I was wondering, are you a painter in real life? I didn't have a chance to see any of your art works that weren't amazing!
And this one is definitely one of my favourites...

Thanks, Guardian! I'm not professionally an artist, if that's what you mean, but i hope to someday illustrate and publish a book of my own.
By the way, all--SPOILER! DON'T READ BEFORE OoP!
Frankly, it rather creeps me out now that I was inspired to do this painting just before the book came out...you understand?

Wow that is great. It really draws the negative and scary feeling of Azkaban. Its dark and gloomy. And the person with his head in his arms is exactly how I pictured people in Azkaban. Very good!

Oohhh, this a good pic of Sirius in Azkaban!
Everything seems to fit. The coloring, the darkness to it, the way you have Sirius holding himself.
Maybe you should have Sirius looking up, instead of down, to give a certain determination in his character. Because him looking down shows that he's giving up. And we know that Sirius doesn't give up.
