View Full Version : Who did you think was going to die?

Bren
June 30th, 2003, 6:11 pm
ok, we all know who died in OOTP. I heard it on the radio before the book was released, that JK cried while writing the scene. With that in mind, who did you think would die while reading the book.

In the starting of the book, I thought it would be Mrs. Weasley, because she was so stressed out, and upset. Surely she would of been hurt protecting everyone. Then I thought it would be Herminioe (whoops) because she got hit with that curse. But in fact I was wrong.

Who did you think would go?

Before I started the book I thought it was going to be Dennis or Collin Creevey.

I was pretty sure it would have been Hagrid or Dumbledore. If Dumbledore had died, I would have definitely cried. He symbolises peace and tranquility which would have ultimately disrupted books 6 and 7 and made them really dark. I didn't upset me much that Sirius died. I had heard he died before I read it and wasn't too bothered when I came to that part of the book.

I saw a spoiler. The first one was okay; it only gave hint. 'It's a guy who first comes out in PoA, it's one of Harry's fans' I thought....Sirius or Lupin??? Then I saw another spoiler that said "scroll down if you want to know who dies' I clicked it out of curiousity. I closed my eyes; then I made up my mind to not see the spoiler. I opened them and started to click on the back button, when I noticed the person who posted the spoiler did not post the spoiler to scroll down. At the bottom of the screen I saw ; 'It's Sirius"

Gee, that sucks. I always try not to look at spoilers but can't help myself. Eventually I do and then feel like a total sh*t for having done so. But I was told by a friend who was flipping through my copy of the book and blurted it out. I didn't believe them but it turned out that she was telling the truth. Ah well, it didn't affect me too much anyway.

Before reading the book, I thought that Hagrid was going to die. But when I got about halfway through the book, I decided that Mrs. Weasley was the person who would most likely kick the bucket. I never even suspected Sirius :'(

Before I started reading I was so convinced that it would be Malfoy, since J.K. said it would be a key character. Then I heard that the death would cause problems with the school as to who the headmaster would be (I must have heard that wrong!), and I thought "well since Malfoy's dad has a lot of power maybe he'll be the new headmaster since his son died?" But then when I was about halfway done reading the book I saw a pretty obvious spoiler, so that kinda ruined it for me. :(

Actually, Sirius had been my number one choice of who would probably die for weeks prior to the release of OotP. However, in all honesty, once I began reading, I must have changed my mind 4 or 5 times--I know I thought Mrs. Weasley, Mr. Weasley, Hagrid, Hermione and Neville at different points in the book. But, once Harry began having the dream of Sirius being tortured, I knew it was him. Then, shortly before his death, I accidentally turned a couple of pages too far and immediately my eyes focused in on the line: SHE KILLED SIRIUS! Yeah, that pretty much bummed me out. It really sucks to be right sometimes.

I was so sure it would be Hagrid or Mrs. Weasley.

Sirius came out of nowhere for me; I automatically assumed that his story was bound to go somewhere right until the end of the series. There was just so much to write about him. I must have gone through every other character and pondered their chances of dying EXCEPT Sirius. :(

Luckily, I started to expect it right before it actually happened in the book. My mom peeked ahead and told me that I would be extremely surprised when I found out who died, and, as my mom is a Sirius fangirl , it became pretty clear judging by how upset she was that it was Sirius. I was only slightly prepared when I read it, because I still didn't believe that Sirius could possibly get killed off.

Before I read the books I thought it was going to be either Hagrid or maybe Mrs Weasley. Then as Hagrid was missing from most of the start of the book I didn't think it was going to be him and after Arthur got attacked I knew it wouldn't be Molly as we had already seen the Weasley's grief.

To tell the truth from about Christmas on I had the dread in the pit of my stomach that it was going to be Sirius. The relationship between him and Harry was being built up so much that I felt sure that it was going to be him. When Hermione got hit by the curse I did think for a second that it was her and I lost the run of myself for awhile! But no, I knew it was going to be Sirius for most of the book.

I was absolutely sure it would be Hagrid. I don't know why, but that's what I always thought. I thought he would come back from his journey and fall down dead on the Hogwarts ground or something dramatic..
So when he didn't return I was quite worried.
But when Mr. Weasley got attacked I thought it would be Mr. Weasley dying.
I never thought it would be Sirius. If Hagrid or Mr Weasley died I would have been much more upset I think, now Sirius death didn't bother me.

I thought either Hagrid or Mrs. Weasley. I was so sure it would be one of them! Then I heard a spoiler lie on Mugglenet, and thought it may be Fred, but it was a lie, obviously, as I said. I heard that bookies were taking bets on who would die, and the odds were for Hagrid 7:1!!

I enjoyed contemplating who would be the one to die. But I was more than cautious to watch out for spoilers. I really like reading things for myself.

But anyway, I had three different people.

Sirius-When JKR said a fan of Harry's dies, I thought of him instantly. But he was already my favourite character, so I refused to believe it. I eventually talked myself out of it somehow. Just like in the book, its hard to believe something when you don't want it to be true.

Neville-I sincerely thought it was gonna be Neville who hit the bucket. (sorry to be short with that). But the way the first four books are written, it builds a hype around NEville in so many directions. I knew Neville would HAVE to do something spectacular or amazing in the future. Just instinct, and in the sense of being spectacular I was right. But I thought as a result of his achievement he would die. That part I was wrong about. Although it was a close call. But I am glad it wasn't him, because he's such a sweetheart,

Hagrid-probably because I don't like him much at all, so part of me hoped it would be him because I could have tolerated losing him.

Although once I started reading, I began to lean towards Percy or Luna being the ones.

Somewhere in the midst of this book, I got the distinct impression that Sirius was going to die. There were just so many warnings about how he would be in trouble if he left his house. I wasn't convinced that he was going to die but I wasn't shocked when it happened.

When I first heard that someone died in the book I thought it would be Hagrid. When I started reading the book I got the feeling it would be Sirus and kept hoping it wasn't going to be him. It couldn't be him I kept thinking to myself. I thought it was Mr. Weasley when he was attacked. I was so sad when it was Sirus :'(

I was almost positive it was Hagrid. But when i was thinking about it, in the fourth book, they built up the death so much, and then it turned out to be someone that I barely remembered from PoA, so I thought it might no tbe someone as pivitol as Sirius. I was shocked.

About a week before the book came out I *knew* it would be Hagrid or Dumbledore. The day before the book came out I was *certain* it would be Molly Weasley.

Sirius was probably the very last person (apart from Harry, Ron and Hermione) that I would have expected. I didn't even think it would be him when Harry had the vision of him being tortured - I thought it was a red herring.

July 2nd, 2003, 1:28 am
As soon as I heard that the death would be "horrible to write", I knew it was Sirius. I don't know why, really, other than the fact that he was too good to be true for Harry and couldn't last. He was pretty much a cure-all for him, and you can't keep that going for the whole series. Hagrid was a fan, and I thought it might be him dfor about 5 minutes, but I just didn't see it happening...

I thought that Hagrid was going to die, because I immediately thought of him as a fan of Harry's. Then I thought Sirius, and for the reasons KeliSiTing said, I somehow mentally blocked that idea out of my mind.

Before I read the book, Ginny Weasley and Hagrid were my top two candidates for death. When I began to read the book, I started thinking Ron would die, even though I knew it wouldn't be Ron or Hermione. There was a point I though Mr. Weasley would die, and another point I actually thought it would be Dumbledore, Snape, or McGonnagal. Once Harry dreamt of the attack on Sirius, I knew it'd be him <tear>.

I thought it was gonna be Lupin or Hagrid. I read ahead of the book cause I was soooo determined to find out who died and saw that same line, "She killed Sirius" but even when I read that, I still didn't think he was actually dead, maybe something happened and he wasn't dead... I just didn't see how JK could kill him off. Harry had no one, then Sirius came into play, made things better for Harry. Didn't think it would be fair at all to kill him off. Harry really needs him. It just sucks that he had to die I suppose.

These are the people, in order, that I thought would die while reading the book.

Ginny: I only hoped she would die because I had been a Harry/Cho shipper and wanted to stop people believing she and Harry would hook up. After this book I've changed my logic completely and am glad Ginny is still around.

Mrs. Weasley: She just seemed like such a likely canadate and it fit in with all the rumours.

Cho: When Harry started dating Cho I thougtht that she might be the one to die. Though now it would make me happy to see her go.

Sirius: At this point in the book, my friend called saying she had finished the book and the the death was horrible letting slip that it was a guy AND was worse then the entire Weasley family dieing. This totally threw me and I had to drop all of my previous predictions. I figured that only one of these three guys would be worse then the entire Weasley family. I guessed that Sirius would be the only one worse then the Weasley family because I had just fallen in love with him.

Lupin, Snape, Doby: After I told my friend who I thought it was she said I was wrong (oviously to throw me off). So these guys were the ones I guessed instead.

Even when Sirius fell through the veil I didn't belive he had died because of what my friend had said. It took me until the end of the book to relize my new favorite character wasn't coming back

Would there be someone who is going to die in book 6? If there would be one then i think its going to be Hagrid or one of the advance guards. Maybe Kingsley Shacklebolt or anyone. Or it may be Lupin who is following the trails of the other marauders. But i hope it's not him. I don't want him to die anyways.

I was totally shocked. Going into the book, I thought for sure Hagrid was going to get it. Not that it never crossed my mind that sirius would die, I just dismissed the idea as it would just be too cruel for Harry (and well me too). The whole scene leading up to it I was just waiting for Neville to die. Then all of a sudden, there goes Sirius. I couldn't believe it.

Eventhough in all fairness, thinking back on it, i think that instints told me he would be the one, but I was just refusing to believe it.

Hmm. I must re-read it then.
I thought it was talking about the emotional connection between Harry and Hagrid. Like the baby chick that decides the hound dog is it's mom because it is the first thing it sees out of it's shell, Hagrid was the first magical person Harry met.

I have almost convinced myself that Harry would have reacted more harshly towards Hagrid's death than to Sirius's.

I had figured Hagrid or Mr. Weasley before I read the book, leaning toward Hagrid. But once Mr. Weasley was attacked I knew it wasn't him, and since Hagrid was getting the crud beat out of him I figured it wasn't him. From then on, I never had a definte person.

Sirius really threw me though. I figured JKR wouldn't kill his Godfather. He was the closest thing Harry had ever had to a parent. (he even says so in GoF) I never thought she would be that cuttthroat. :(

before starting the book, i really didnt wanna think about it too much. then i started it. first i thought it would be mrs. weasley. then i thought it would be any one of the weasleys because, u know, of that part where molly was tryin to tackle a boggart, and really couldnt, and corpses of like ron, arthur, harry, ginny, etc. started appearing. then i thought it would be arthur weasley for sure because of that very suspenseful part in which he got bitten by a snake. then i kinda thought it would be sirius black when it came to that part in which harry dreams he's about to get attacked by voldie. i wasnt as convinced with the possibility of sirius dying as my earlier guesses because i thought he was too important to harry to die. i didnt think rowling would be cruel enough to take his beloved godfather away from him. ok, so then came the part of ron, herm, harry, luna, neville and ginny going to the ministry of magic to try to save sirius. i was ever-so-happy when they found out sirius wasnt bout to be attacked after all; he was never at the ministry in the first place. then there came the battle between the 6 hogwarts students, and a group of death eaters, and i guessed it would either ron, herm, neville or ginny.

like a friend told me prior to me finishing the book, rowling does an awesome job on making ppl guess who's gonna die. one moment, u'd think it would be this man. then u change ur prediction to this other person, u get convinced it would be him/her. then BAM! ur wrong...

Sigh...the death of sirius black was so devastating...it just happened...i seriously believed things could not get any worse for harry...he went through a terrible amount of ordeal already...he lost his parents...surely fate would not take away the next best person to being his real father?? *sniffs* :( :( :(

I was almost positive it would be Hagrid.

One, because I had a hunch Harry would learn about his destiny in this book and Hagrid represents his introduction into the wizarding world, which is now over.

Two, because I couldn't help but think about the epilogue or future of all the characters in the story. If the Order/HRH is successful, I thought hagrid's greatest reward to be cleared of all charges and made a Hogwarts teacher...well already happened.

Three, I thought (and this is still a possibility) that Hagrid would go down the only way he would want to go down, giving his life to save Dumbledore's or Harry's. I would be interested/intrigued to see a situation is Book 6 or 7 where Dumbledore shows some sign of weakness or vulnerability and Hagrid jumps in front of the curse to save him.

Before I started the book, I was guessing people left right and centre, because I had absolutely no idea.

Reading the book: at first I thought it'd be Molly, then I thought Arthur, then Neville, and Percy, and Hagrid. For a fleeting second, I thought it was Hermione, and then Neville again. About two pages before Sirius fell, I knew it would be him, and I almost couldn't read those pages, I was dreading it that much.

So really I had no idea until just before it happened.

Before the book I, too thought it would be Hagrid, because of hints and also what Robby Coltraine said after the first movie.

Anyhow, starting the book I tried to erase any preconceptions, and just read the book. As the book progressed, I enjoyed it, and at the last battle, I was really worried about first one person and then another possibly buying it. When Sirius actually died, I had to go back and re-read as it was so offhand. It only hit me when Harry started having angst over it.

Now Harry has no godfather, is the Hogsmeade permission cancelled? Will he have to get the Dursleys to sign it for his last two years?

Harry will certainly have a lot more issues over Sirius dying than he ever did with Cedric--and he had a lot of issues with Cedric--still does.

Before reading the book, I honestly thought that it was going to be Hagrid. Because Ms. Rowling had said that someone close to Harry would die, I assumed that it would be either Hagrid, Ron, Hermione, Sirius, or Lupin. But for a while I dismissed the idea that anyone but Hagrid could die, as I thought it was too soon to kill either Moony or Padfoot, and too cruel to let Hermione or Ron die.

However, by page 300 of OotP, I had conjectured that poor, reckless Sirius would be the unfortunate.

July 2nd, 2003, 3:26 pm
Well before the book I though Hagrid, but once I saw the first vision I thought it was Mr. Weasley. This could be true since the Weasleys are on the poorer side of wizards and now they have no source to bring in money and it would be totally harsh on all the kids. But then I thought Hermione(they cant kill her off) when she was hit with the purple slash spell, and Neville. But I never suspected Harry's last family to be killed. Atleast his friends are there for him, especially after they get off Hogwarts Express and the Dursleys are waiting for Harry. Mad-Eye, Tonks, adn Lupin are there. I liked that part.

But over all Sirius was a shock to me and I felt really bad. No I feel a had a better connection to him :'( I miss him already!

Before I began reading, I was sure that Hagrid would snuff it and was increasingly willing to accept it as his recklessness reached new heights. But, in the middle of the book, I was SURE that Mr. Weasley was done for. So sure, that I went to the very end of the last chapter to see how Molly would handle being a widow and a single mother. Imagine my surprise when I saw Arthur confronting Vernon. Whew! I wasn't nervious about McGonagall, not even when she was hit by the Stunners. That woman could march through walls. I wasn't really concerned about Dumbledore or Hermione (big shock when she was horribly attacked) but I hadn't even CONSIDERED Sirius as a candidate.

Another theory I had once I read of Dumbledore leaving is that a student would die. Dumbledore is pretty much the only thing keeping Voldermort directly away from Hogwarts. With him gone I though a student would die, didn't know who though

I though and hoped that it would be Hagrid. It's ironic because right before the book came out I saw a poll which asked people who they thought would die, and the number one answer was Hagrid, but Sirius was a close second. When I saw the results, I immediately thought that the people who took the poll were insane, Sirius couldn't be the one who dies! It's just not possible, and then my worst fears came true.

I actually thought it would be Neville Longbottom, though why, I have no clue. When I found out it was Sirius, I was shocked, because I was hoping that his name would be cleared. While I was rereading the book, though, I found several clues that pointed towards his death, that I hadn't found on my first read, such as this quote: "There are some things worth dying for!"

I knew it wouldn't be Ron or Hermione... I mean, I'm not ruling them out for book 7, but for book 5... NAWWW!!!! I thought it would be Hagrid with everyone else, but I also had the sneaking suspicions it'd be Dumbledore (I definitely hoped it wouldn't.. favourite character... but what an interesting plot twist! No DD to protect Harry... the madness!) or Mr. Weasley (no idea why I thought that in the first place... then when JKR played us all with that injury and all the drama with the snake bite...)... had no idea it'd be Sirius. However, I'm not too broken up. I didn't want him DEAD, but I've never, EVER been fond of Sirius Black and still am not.

In no particular order, I thought the following people were going to die:

1. Mrs Weasley
2. Hagrid (when he was cornered in the Forbidden Forest by the Centaurs)
3. Professor McGonagall (when she was hit by Stunners launched from Umbridge's goons' wands)
4. Hermione (when she went all "limp" in the Department of Mysteries)

I did know that Sirius was going to die before I finished the book, however. Being a moderator on these forums leaves you open to read all sorts of nasty spoilers. ;)

JKR was really clever in giving us the death hint, because every time something happened to a character, I though "well, this is it..."
Before reading I was pretty sure it would be DD, actually.... I imagined the disarray of the Wizarding world and Hogwarts without him, and thought that would be a good launcher into Voldie getting more power in books 6 & 7. I still think that he might be one of the characters to go in later books....which is very upsetting.
But, yeah, during reading, at first I thought it would be Hagrid, when he didn't come back, then I was sure it would be Mr. Weasley after the attack, then Hagrid again when the toad came to his house, then McGonagall with the stunners, then Sirius with the dream, and Hermione with the curse, and then came the death, which ended it. So I went all over the page with this death.

I think the only other candidates for the fifth book for death would have to be Mr Weasley or Dumbledore, since Mr Weasley dying would bring Ron and Harry closer together through a similar desolating despairful experiance, but I'd rather see Harry and Hermione grow closer togehter, so I'm glad Mr Weasley is still around. And Dumbledore would also be a good candidate, but he still seems too important...but still...Sirius was important too, right? But I think Sirius had it coming eventually.

I thought that either Dumbledore or Sirius would snuff it, my money was mostly on DD though. I felt it would be one of them, as they both had a sort of father role for Harry. My reasoning : We hadn't see Harry lose anyone he was very close with yet. I was pretty sure it would be an older person, a parental figure, someone who had provided good guidance for Harry. It would force Harry along that path to becoming a fully independent, come-of-age adult.

I NEVER thought it would be Sirius. Harry NEEDED him. I thought he would be a surviver throughout the series. I thought it would be Hagrid or Mrs. Weasley because they both are very loyal to Harry.

As I was reading the book however, JKR created a whole lot of bluffs (Ron apearing dead on the floor, Hermione and the curse, Mr. Weasley was a big one, etc) but JKR created a mood around Sirius saying he was lonely in the house, his life was in danger, stressed that everyone was still looking for him, and made him REALLY close to Harry. I knew it was coming when Harry viewed him in the department of mysteries.

Same here on Hagrid. But I must admit, he seemed too obvious. He not a student, he lives in that house all alone near that forest, he raises dangerous beasts who may eat him at any time, his character (according to some) may have outlasted his usefullness. However, I always liked him.

Almost instantly when I first met sirius in this last book his overall disposition and character struck me as the "doomed" kind of person who through his obvious troubles is going to meet an unfair prediciment. It was just his general attitude and all the things against him that sort of made it obvious.

Plus the fact that he was in the book a lot more than he should have been for doing so little. That was especially foreboding.

ALSO: DigitalHeadache, I'm sorry about it being spoiled for you, and punching the kid is almost acceptable, however, here at CoS forums, however rude people may be, we try to refrain from violence :agree: :tu:

I didn't even try to venture a guess before the book came out, the "fan" clue was too confusing. All i could think of was Colin, and he just wasn't important enough. When I was reading it, in the back of my mind I knew it was going to be Sirius the whole time. He kept doing stupid things and trying to get out of the house; I was yelling out loud at him. At first i thought it was gonna be Colin Creevey cos J.K said the one that's gonna die is a huge fan of Harry. I never once thought it was gonna be Sirius...:( But then all these discussions and theories came about Hagrid most likely to be the victim and I started to believe that it was him. But then as I read an article about J.K actually crying when she wrote the death, I knew it was not gonna be Colin cos Colin wasn't that big of a character in HP. Hagrid was okay but I couldn't imagine J.K actually crying if Hagrid died. So then I recalled back the COS DVD interview where the interviewer asked her something about the characters and J.K answered that she's really keen/attracted to Sirius Black and Remus Lupin...so then as I read OOTP, i knew it was gonna be either of them cos they both showed up in the book and play quite a major role in the book. :sigh:

I had a few possibilities. Sirius was at the top of my list only becasue I didn't want him to. I kind of denied the fact that he was in the running to die, but then came to terms with it. I was quite certain the fabulous three weren't on the list nor were the Wesleys (although i wouldn't be surprised if percy dies in a book to come). I also though Dumbledore, Magonagle, Hagrid, and Lupin were possibilities.

Prior to the book coming out, Molly was my top pick. Never once did I believe before reading the book that it would be Sirius, I was expecting it to be a character we had known since at least CoS, if not since SS.

After I started reading, someone posted on another site that Sirius was the one to die, without any spoiler warning whatsoever on Monday, in a thread we had all agreed we wouldn't divulge that information for at least a week, and even then we posted spoiler warnings. I wasn't positive the information was accurate, so I found myself falling for it every time JKR set someone else to look like the victim (Arthur and the Snake, Hermione in the DoM, Hagrid because he was gone so long, the Molly Boggart scene, etc)

And, to tell the truth, I was relived it was Sirius, because, I like Sirius' character well enough, but Hagrid and Molly are more dear to me than Sirius. I think any of the three of them would've had the same dramatic impact on Harry. Dumbledore, I could not see dying yet, as it's too early, I figure end of Book 6 at the earliest, but, I am certain he won't make it to the end of Book 7, the mentor has to be gone for the hero to fully "become"

I really didn't have an idea. As the OotP went on, and Hagrid's absence continued, I thought he was gonna die. I also thought about Sirius dieing because he was left ALONE in the house with Kreacher. I never imagined it would be Sirius, I thought that he was too much important to die. At first I though it would be Mr Weasley, then, when they got in the department of mysteries I had no idea of what would happen: It could have been Hermione because of that spell, then, I thought it would be Ron, because of the brain; I also thought it could be Neville because he was the only one who resisted with Harry, and I suspected that he would die defending him; so I was absolutely lost and decided to stop thinking and continue reading.
I didn't feel anything when Sirius died, I was too much interested to know what would happen next to care about him... but I cried when Harry found the mirrors Sirius gave him, if he had just remembered that he got them, nothing would had happened... that thought made me feel absolutely depressed.

Before reading the book, I seriously thought it would either be Hagrid or Mrs.Weasley. Then, when the book came out and I was in the middle of reading it, I went to youth group, and this guy was there who worked for the radio, so he learned stuff that others didn't know yet. His daughter guessed three people, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley and Sirius, and he said that the one who died was one of those three. I actually wanted it to be Mrs. Weasley (now, before you get mad at me for thinking that, I'm going to say that she wasn't acting very motherly before they went back to school, Mr. Weasley's always been cool, and I had come to love Sirius so much that even when I knew he died, I, like Harry, wouldn't accept it, so Mrs. Weasley was the one I chose for me to want to kill off) Anyway, then when Mr. Weasley was attacked, I was actually relieved, because I had started to be really suspicious about it being Sirius, and I thought that it would be Mr. Weasley instead. I was devastated when I found out it was Sirius. (though not totally, because I think I really knew it'd be him all along) But I can't believe he's gone!!!!! :upset:

Like a lot of you I thought it was Hagrid, because I don't find he has so much to add to the plot, which was not the case of Sirius. I also thought of Dumbledore, because Harry is safe as long as DD is alive and I still think DD will have to disapear as the final fight between Voldie and Harry.

Then I thought Mr Weasley wouldn't survive his snake bites. When he recovered, I gave up and just read as fast as I could to find out. I had theorized that it would be Sirius, just for the simple fact that Harry losing him would be Harry losing the only parent-like person he'd ever had. I figured it would be a pretty harsh impact on him, but it would bring him some understanding as well....but I don't know if I really believed my own theory or not.
It was a random idea, but I kept arguing for it, and it wound up being right on. I also thought Dumbledore was going to die in OotP. I thought there were some hints in the other books about it, but as of yet, I'm wrong. We'll see what happens with that one.

Sirius was my first prediction in the Who Will Die thread...but I thought it would be him for different reasons. I just followed the book logic that if Sirius didn't die then for what reason would Harry need to go back to the Dursley's? It was simplistic logic, but kind of effective. That was back in September of 2002, and by the time the book actually came out I had no clue who would die.

I never thought it would be Hagrid, before reading the book, but, I did think it would be Molly. I even thought the folks who guessed Sirius in the "Who will Die" thread were crazy, thinking, Sirius isn't fleshed out enough, it's gonna be someone who's been around since Book 1, how stupid can you be?

While reading the book, I fell for every single misdirection, Dudley during the Dementor attack, Hagrid (Because he was gone so long and trio were worried about him) Arthur due to the Snake bite, Ron at the Bogart Scene, Hermione and Ron at the MoM.

Well, I guess I was the stupid one, since it was Sirius who died

My problem was that I kept reading the new theories early on...by the time the book came out I thought it could be a Weasley, a Creevey, Hedwig, Hagrid, or Sirius. Oh well, I guess this just shows I trust my gut instinct.

I was more than half convinced it was going to be Neville. Because of this, I wasn't really hit by Sirius' death when I read the book for the first time. Then, while reading the book I thought it would be Arthur until he recovered and they went to the Ministry, by which time I again thought it would be Neville. My mum thought it might be Dumbledore. Neither of us (so far as I know) even considered Sirius as a possibility.

I thought it was Hagrid or Sirius. When they got to the OOTP headcourters i thought it was sirius just because it would make the story flow more, but then sirius will probaly come back..........

I thought it was Hagrid and to some extent Dobby who was going to die. I never would've thought it would be Sirius
