Matrix Reloaded is definitely up there. X2 as well.
Are we getting Spirited Away in theatres out here? I head Disney wasn't bringing anymore in because of that spat with Studio Ghibli. Oh well, there's always DVD.
Frustration of the Week (or 2 or 3): I've been trying to rent Charlotte Gray for 3 weeks now. But everyone only has one copy, and I can never seem to get it. :yell:

Well, I can't WAIT to see LoTR: TT...it looks to be better than the first, which I sense is the same with Harry Potter and the CoS! So, yeah, you can mark those two movies as ones I can't WAIT to see.
Also, I can't wait to see X-Men 2, especially after seeing a production teaser Brian Singer showed at Comic-Con this year.

I just want to see something original. I'm loving HP, and LotR, but at the same time I'm getting tired of movies based on books (especially comic books, I really hate those), or true stories, or remakes, or just sequels of other movies. What was the last big movie that was really original? Let's see:
Harry Potter: book
Lord of the Rings: book
A Beautiful Mind: true story
Spiderman: comic book
X-Men 2: comic book and sequel
Daredevil: comic book
Black Hawk Down: true story and book
Windtalkers: true story (based on real people anyways)
Goldmember: sequel
MIB II: sequel of movie based on comics based on supposedly real people
Star Wars: sequels
Artemis Fowl: book
Indiana Jones 4: sequel
Road to Perdition: book
Sum of all Fears: book
Jurassic Park: book and sequels
Forrest Gump: book
Pearl Harbor: true story
Hollywood just won't take a chance anymore. The only really original successful movies I can come up with off the top of my head are The Matrix, the Sixth Sense, and Gladiator (which was itself basically a re-make of old Roman movies)
Sat0shi
August 12th, 2002, 12:01 am
Ok...I'll give ya a few movied that are original and coming out soon.
28 Days Later is one. This is directed by Danny (Trainspotting) Boyle, and is about a post-apocolyptic world filled with..well...everyones favorite Zombies! There is more interesting things about it..but I can't think of any right now.
Another is a movie that is already out in Japan and other nations, but will soon have a short theatrical release then a DVD release from Media Blasters. The movie..Versus. I just got it on DVD from Japan and it is AWESOME. The story is this: There are 666 portals to the other world. The 444th is somewhere in Japan...The Forest of Ressurection. This movie tells the tale of a escaped prisoner who is being chased by the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia for those who didn't know) through the Forest of Ressurection until a mysterious man shows up and...well...I will leave that up to you to decided. If you want to know, you'll have to see the movie. Throw a girl in there, some wicked sword/gun play battles with zombies, some funny scenes and you have Versus. I love this movie...:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well, not that it was really a super-quality movie, but "Signs" was original. So was "Mulholland Drive" which was pretty successful...
Anyway, I agree with you. It would be great to have some really original films come out for a change. Though I don't mind the sequels and stuff...they can be good, too.
Today I saw "Signs" again with a friend, and I rented two Mystery Science Theatre videos (to watch with that same friend tonight).

What's a graphic novel? Is that somewhere between a comic book and a regular book?
Sat0shi
August 12th, 2002, 3:53 pm
Graphic Novels are like comic books but instead of being 17-25 pages they are like 100-120 or so pages. They are the length of a regular book with comic panels.
Ah yes...David Lynch does make the most original movies.

I have been waiting sooooooo long...and finally it will come. The Ring will be released on the 18th of October to hopefully much success. A remake of the UNFORGETTABLE Ring, which is a story about a video tape that after watching it you die seven days later from the original time you watched it. Seven days to the second. This was an amazing movie, and hopefully the remake will also be good...

Spiderman sequels-I am such a sucker for super heroes in tights:drool:

Die another Day-New James Bond, for those of you living under rocks. heehee JK

Now that's a promising film. Bruce Campbell is my hero, even though he has yet to respond to my email inviting him to come to a local convention. Really? I saw, presumably, the very same teaser trailer and was totally uninspired to see "Ned Kelly." No doubt I will end up forking out the $5.25 to see it, but I'm not hanging onto my seat with anticipation.
The only films I can think of that I'm really looking forward to this year are "The Matrix Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions." No doubt this list will become considerably longer and more complex as the year progesses, but that's all I can think of right now.

They had no chance to make it live up to the comic, none what-so-ever. X-Men might work because you can do the special effects and such, but LofEG is forever a classic in comics. The Authors sold the rights to the first edition about 8 years ago and it was sold off three more times when companies realised there was no way they could do it justice, unfortunatly someone tried anyhow. I'll still go and see it, but I'm very afraid as to what they'll have done with it...

LoEG seems like it's going to be an interesting film. I saw the trailer and it looks quite promising. But you can't judge a film by the trailer, so we'll have to wait and see how is the final result.
Today I went to the cinema and they played the Johnny English triler and if you ask me it seems funny, very Rowan Atkinson-ish. It will be Mr. Bean being a spy indeed.
The other trailed they showed was The Guru and it seems an horrible movie. The trailer at least was grotty and stupid. I'm definetively not going to see this one.

Hey, I saw the trailer last night at Anger Management, and I have to agree: the plot sounds pretty cool. Still, I have to admit that eye candy is the number one reason I'm going to see it. Well, I'm also interested in seeing if Orlando Bloom can act like anything/anyone besides an immortal who sleeps while he runs and gracefully (?) skateboards down stairs. :rasp: (LOL) From the trailer, it looks like he got some chops...

Yeah, Shelob! I was disappointed that they left that out of TT, but come to think of it, it makes sense to push it into the third movie; that would have been an even worse cliffhanger than the first movie, in my opinion.
