As I huge fan of this band, and having seen some threads about favorite bands, I have decided to open this is thread for all those who enjoy the great music from the Gallagher’s brothers:
Noel Thomas Gallagher and William (Liam) John Gallagher.
Let’s write down our opnions, comments, reviews, news, etc about this epic British band.

First, I will do something of brief history for those who know little or nothing about this Manchester rock and roll band. Manchester, England, a city that has brought great rock and roll bands like Happy Mondays, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans UK, James, Inspiral Carpets, Blur, Joy Division, The Smiths, Candy Flip, and others.

After meeting Graham Lambert (Inspiral Carpets) in 1988, and eventually auditioning unsuccessfully to be the Inspiral’s vocalist (Even Tim Burgess - The Charlatans UK lead singer - applied and failed to be The Inspiral’s vocalist), Noel got a job as a roadie for The Inspirals Carpets. Noel worked until 1990. He had his own ideas already!

On the other hands, younger Liam was not into music nor rock and roll. In 1990, the great band The Stone Roses awakes Liam’s interest in music. Liam Gallagher was highly impacted seeing Ian Brown (Stones Roses) on stage. Liam liked the power Ian had over the public, his energy. Liam wanted be like Ian Brown. Liam decided to form a band to pursue his dream of being like Ian Brown or the best rock and roll singer of the world. That band was called The Rain. The Rain just fired its lead singer. Liam saw an opportunity. The band was conformed by Paul McGuigan (Bass), Tony McCarroll (Drums), Paul Arthur – Bonehead - (Guitar) and Chris Hutton (Singer). They only played in pubs. Paul Gallagher, the eldest of the three Gallagher brothers, was friend of Paul Arthur and Tony McCarroll. Liam auditioned to be the singer, and got accepted. He put as a condition to change the band’s name from The Rain to Oasis.

Oasis had born from Liam’s ambition in 1991.

According to Paul Gallagher, the name OASIS came from a poster. An Inspiral Carpets poster that was in Liam and Noel’s bedroom.

In 1991, Oasis did its first gig supporting a band called Sweet Jesus. There were 40 or 50 people in the club. Noel was present. They played songs composed by Liam and Bonehead. Only one song “Take That” will survive the Noel’s era. Liam has what Noel wanted the most at that time: A BAND! Later, when Noel finished working as a roadie, and without nothing better to do, he joined Oasis.

In 1992 Oasis played their first proper Gig opening with a lyric-less Columbia. In November the 22th, they played at Boarwalk in front 100 people a version of Columbia, and attention! they attempted for the first time live, Whatever, one of the first Noel’s compositions and one of the greatest Oasis’ singles. In April 1993 they played for the first time Live Forever in Liverpool. After that, Oasis recorded a demonstration tape with the following tracks:

Side one: Cloudburst, Columbia, D’yer Wanna Be a Spaceman, Strange Thing
Side two: Bring it on Down, Married with Children, Fade Away, Rock ‘n’ Roll Star.

In May 1993 they went to play with the Sister Lovers at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow. Alan McGee, head of Creation Records was present. He thought he just heard the greatest rock and roll band in the world and signed Oasis. At that time Oasis merely had 14 gigs of experience. Not bad.

NOTE: I have extracted most of this information form two Oasis’ biographies I have read as well as from magazines readings like NME

All songs composed by Noel Gallagher, and all songs interpreted by Liam Gallagher. AMG best pick (4 and a half stars) for an Oasis album where they highlight Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, and Cigarettes & Alcohol.

In my opinion, this is the Oasis album that is more into Hard Rock Style. This album brings the anthem “Live Forever” voted for the Oasis’ fans as their best song ever!
This is an awesome album with great songs.

The Swampson (Gallagher)
Some Might Say (Gallagher)
Cast No Shadow (Gallagher)
She’s Electric (Gallagher)
Morning Glory (Gallagher)
Champagne Supernova (Gallagher)

This album is recorded with a new drummer, Alan White, after the Gallagher brothers decided to fired Tony McCarroll due to his poor performance and lack of responsibility. Another 4 and a half stars AMG album rating. First album where Noel sings (Don’t Look Back In Anger) though Noel sings some b-side songs (Sad Song, D’Yer Wanna Be A Spaceman) in Definitely Maybe’s singles. AMG highlights Roll With It, Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger, and Some Might Say. “Wonderwall” is the first No 1 single in the U.S. and the song that projected them internationally. For new Oasis listeners, this is maybe a good start to find out what Oasis’ music brings.

This is my favorite Oasis’ album so far, and my favorite all time album! It has the best Oasis’ song IMO which is “Don’t Look Back In Anger”

In this album Noel also sings one song (Magic Pie), and getting more involved in singing the b-side songs for this album.

This album simply rocks. I never get tired of listening. A complete Masterpiece from the beginning to the end.

Standing on the Shoulder of Giants (Released in Feb, 2000)

F#@$#$ In The Bushes (Gallagher)
Go Let It Out (Gallagher)
Who Feels Love? (Gallagher)
Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is (Gallagher)
Little James (Noel Gallagher music / Liam Gallagher Lyrics)
Gas Panic! (Gallagher)
Where Did It All Go Wrong? (Gallagher)
Sunday Morning Call (Gallagher)
I Can See A Liar (Gallagher)
Roll It Over (Gallagher)

Highly criticized album where even its title has a grammatical mistake since the word Shoulder should be plural. Probably, Noel most psychedelic album so far. AMG unfairly rated it with 3 stars, and highlighted Go Let It Out, Who Feels Love?, and Gas Panic!. Liam Gallagher gave an unusual effort when he wrote the lyric for the song Little James who is dedicated to his stepson James. For the first time Noel sings two songs (Where Did It All Go Wrong? And Sunday Morning Call – being both Acoustics)

After (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? this is my second favorite Oasis album. Most of the songs are beautifully written by Noel including Liam’s first attempt “Little James”. Who Feels Love? has one of the best Noel’s lyrics (IMO) since Live Forever. The album is slow, and very different from its predecessors, but highly melodic. Roll It Over is a slow-motion 6 minutes simple song that seems to last 2 minutes. The b-side songs for the singles are probably the best Noel has written highlighting Cigarettes In Hell, Carry Us All, Let’s All Make Believe, and the excellent Full-On, this one soars. “Cigarettes In Hell” and “Full-On” should have made it into the album, they are too good to be b-side songs.

My top five in this album?

Go Let It Out
Who Feels Love?
Roll It Over
Gas Panic!
Where Did It All Go Wrong?

Heathen Chemistry (Released in Jul, 2003)

The Hindu Times (Gallagher)
Force Of Nature (Gallagher)
Hung In A Bad Place (Archer)
Stop Crying Your Heart Out (Gallagher)
Songbird (Liam Gallagher)
Little By Little (Gallagher)
A Quick Peep (Bell)
(Probably) All In The Mind (Gallagher)
She Is Love (Gallagher)
Born On A Different Cloud (Liam Gallagher)
Better Man (Liam Gallagher)

Last Oasis album released so far. 3 Stars for AMG. It highlights only The Hindu Times, Songbird, and She Is Love. This album marks a new Oasis era since original members Paul Arthur, and Paul McGuigan decide to retire. Both married and with children, and a pretty decent bank accounts decide their personal lives are over the music. Gem Archer (Guitar), and Andy Bell (Bass) filled in Oasis. Gem Archer was born the same day than Noel Gallagher, even the year (May, 29 1967). Liam surprised many collaborating with three songs. Gem brought the good tune “Hung In A Bad Place[/b], and Andy composed the instrumental “A Quick Peep”. Noel keeps increasing the number of songs he sings. This time is three (Force Of Nature, She Is Love, Little By Little). This is the first album where there is a hidden song after “Better Man”, 36 minutes have to pass for an instrumental-acoustic song kicks off. This long span has angered some fans (Including me) since that instrumental tune is worth listening. The song is known as “The Cage”. Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, considers Liam’s song Songbird as the most beautiful song he has ever heard. Coldplay has covered this song in live presentations.

Maybe because “Heathen Chemistry” is the album I listen the less, it’s the one I like the less. Songbird is easily the best song of this album. This two-chord song exhibits one of the best lyrics of Oasis, and it came from Liam’s brain which makes it interesting for future albums.

My top five in this album?

Songbird
The Hindu Times
Force Of Nature
Stop Crying Your Heart Out
She Is Love

I like 'Definitely Maybe' a lot but their later albums don't really impress me I have to say.
I went through a huge oasis kick in '00 but the lyrics don't speak to me on an emotional level such as some of the other Manchester greats you mentioned such as The Smiths and Joy Division.

Best tunes - Slide Away, Supersonic, Whats the Story Morning Glory, Talk Tonight and Live Forever.

I'm so glad you opened a thread on Oasis at last. Those posts were great! ;) I haven't done mine yet,so you will have to wait for a few more days.

Oasis has been one of my favourite bands for about 5 years. There were times when their music, along with Guns N' Roses',The Beatles' and the Smiths' kept me alive.I can describe their music in 5 words :swirling, melodic, wistful, creative and alive.

My favourite album is Be Here Now.It's such a beautiful album. My favourite songs in Be Here Now are :

1.D'you know what i mean
2.Stand by me
3.All around the world
4.Don't go away
5.I Hope,I Think,I Know

I read somewhere on the net which said that their music are influenced by The Beatles,The Stones and Neil Young.Perhaps, one of the reasons that i love their music so much is that i love The Beatles and Neil Young. I actually don't see many similarities between their music and The Beatles' music but one thing i have to say is that their music are both beautiful and unique.Oasis's music seems to be a bit more rebellious and metallic, but there are still some really sweet songs like All around the world,Live Forever or Sad Song...

Anyway,i think i'll stop here.Gotta go up for dinner.I'll add some more later.;)

I think they were influenced by the smiths Kassandra. I've read my share of Oasis articles back in '00 and Noel's mentioned them a few times.
He also did an interview for Liam when his teeth were knocked out and mentioned wanting to do a cover of their songs.

Oh yeah,i remember Noel said something about the Smiths's lyrics being funny but i can't find the exact quote. He also mentioned that he learned so much by playing along to the Beatles and the Smiths.

By the way,I remember that someone in Oasis owns many of Beatle memoriblia, including a used Lennon piano, but i couldn't remember who.

John Frusciante also learned melodies from The Beatles and has been playing Smiths songs all last year. :tu:
Moz likes Oasis.

I like Noel's voice better than Liams'. It sounds more sincere [his words and everything] but I did like Liam's performance on 'Don't go away'. Entertainment Weekly may have been on to something when they said it was more relatable to Liam than Noel since he struggled to write songs himself.

What bothers me is they are unprofessional. Cancelling tours that often when they can't get along isn't fair to the fans. Just don't schedule the tour if you don't want to perform.

Me too. Noel sings naturally and with more feeling in my opinion than Liam, but there are times I need to listen Liam too. Both are great, and I always say that Oasis is like two great bands, Liam's and Noel's.

You are right saying they have cancelled many concerts, but also there are few bands that have made more gigs in a year than Oasis.

And about The Smiths, Paul Gallagher (Liam's and Noel's older brother) assure than Johnny Marr (The Smiths) were crucial in shaping Noel guitar playing. He said that there was an instrumental song (B-side of the single "Panic") called "The Draize Train" that Noel played until everybody got tired of it. Noel did played a lot of The Smiths songs when learning guitar by his own.

There's a story about Johnny Marr taking Noel to a guitar shop in Doncaster Road in either Manchester or London and Noel watching as the man spent £10,000 on guitars. To most of us, it's a waste of money, but to Noel it was an act of rock 'n' roll.

Johnny also gave Noel one of his guitars in Oasis' early days, which Noel played on Definitely Maybe.

I have this great picture at home of Noel with all his guitars lined up and the guy has hundreds! He must have a million pounds worth of guitars. I was  quite a bit.

I've been an Oasis fan since 1995, but I'm yet to find a better album than (What's the Story) Morning Glory. I don't think there's a single track on there (with the exception of the instrumentals) that I don't appreciate and enjoy on some level.

Oasis was supposed to be my first concert waaay back in 1996, but Liam and Noel have a tiff, or they were arrested...or something, I can't remember, but the point is they cancelled. I was remember being so disappointed that I cried.

My top five on (What's the Story) Morning Glory:

1. Don't Look Back In Anger
2. Champagne Supernova
3. Wonderwall (even though it's overplayed!)
4. Roll With It
5. She's Electric

My first live experience of Oasis was when they rehearsed in a local club before a warm up gig to Glastonbury in 1995. It was June and quite warm. Liam didn't seem to care too much about the warm up gig, but it was actually the first time Roll With It had been played to a live audience and I do believe the video was also shot in the same venue.

Their Glastonbury performance was not really as good as the 1994 one. It lacked something. Noel said it was nerves that made the band perform badly, but no one doubted that Oasis were destined for stadiums before the end of the year.

Does anyone remember the great battle of the bands BLUR vs OASIS, in 1995? Blur had been persuaded to push the release date of their single back to meet the release of the Oasis single. It's long believed that Steve Sutherland, former editor of NME orchestrated the move to help boost NMEs flagging sales and boost Blur's chances of their first UK number 1 as Oasis had already acheived that milestone four months earlier when Some Might Say went into number 1.

Well the media frenzy was amazing. Both bands were headlined on the main news channel referring to a Beatles/Stones type rivalry, with Blur as the Beatles and Oasis as the Stones. Major recording artists got involved as people speculated who would get the number 1 spot. It ended up going to Blur, but only after several thousand Oasis CDs were incorrectly tagged, so they didn't register as sales. It is like Oasis would have been number 1 that day.

Anyway, the battle was won by Blur, but Oasis won the war with Morning Glory, which as we all know shifted them from popular britpop band to worldwide stardom culmulating in the massive Knebworth shows in 1996. 125,000 people each night... To quote Noel & Liam on the opening night:

NOEL: "This is history... This is history, right here, right now."

LIAM: "Na man, I thought it was Knebworth."

I can't say I remember the Blur/Oasis issue since at that time I only had Guns and Roses, White Lion, and Nirvana in my head, and it was few what I knew about Oasis. I became an Oasis fan very late, when they released "Don't Go Away". In addition, I didn't have any clue who Blur was.

However, I read about that issue later. Singles "Country House" (Blur) vs "Roll With It" (Oasis).

There was a funny quote from Liam in the NME Brat Awards (1996) where Liam said that "They can stick their awards right up their Country Houses"

As Morgoth said, Oasis ended winning with the album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?"

Noel said once: "People from my band have been quoted saying that they hate Blur but I'll say that, although I've never been into a Blur album, I'll buy the singles compilation when it comes out. They are a great singles band, simple as that. Regardless of whether they hate us or we hate them..."
This is a link of (I think) is an important NME issue at that time about the war between Oasis and Blur.
http://microsites.nme.com/rock100/site/34.html

I'm pleased many of you have been into Oasis concerts. Unfortunately for me, I'm yet to go to one Oasis presentation. :sigh: Oasis went to play once in my country (Caracas Pop Festival) in 2001, but 3 or 4 before the concert I left Venezuela to go to the U.S. And while in the U.S. Oasis toured with The Black Crows in several U.S. cities. The closest one to my home was in Baltimore, but the very same day they had the concert I had a final exam...at the same time...:banghead:

I'm still hoping to see them one day!!! :D

I've got this about the Oasis/Blur issue.

Oasis Vs. Blur Again!
September 20, 2002

Noel Gallagher of Oasis looks set to upset Damon Albarn again with his remarks published in this week's edition of U.K. music magazine NME.
The Oasis/Blur rivalry was front page news in the '90s and in the year 2002 Noel has added his views on the much-talked about, but not confirmed departure of guitarist Graham Coxon from Blur.

Noel said that he had bumped into Graham the other day: "But it's not for me to say, 'cos I've got a lot of time for Graham and it should come from him, not me. If it was the other C***, I'd tell you everything he said 'cos he's a knob."

He continued: "You've got to say this, in Damon Albarn's last couple of interviews he was saying that Blur should be grateful to have him in and it's good for them that he's in Gorillaz and stuff like that, well it's only gonna go one way, innit? You can't be saying things like that to your bandmates you've grown up with. Saying, 'well, now that I've done all these things I'm doing you a favour being in this band.'"

Younger brother Liam also commented: "They should've split up a long time ago. Are they gonna get another guitarist?" -- (www.mtvasia.com)

I actually read a few more articles about that last year in some magazines, but i couldn't find them.My mum must have put them somewhere when she tidied up the room.

Anyway,i just want to say that there's a quote about music from Noel that i really love.It was from an interview back in 1993 or 1994,i'm not sure :
"It's not like bands, it's songs.A s### band makes a good song, it doesn't matter if they're a s### band if it's a good song. It's like, there's only two forms of music. Good or bad".

:wow: QUEEE!!?? I mean, what!? They went to Caracas Pop Festival!? I don't believe it! All my friends told me this "Oh, only No Doubt, Papa Roach, and bands like that played- nothing major". Oasis...in Venezuela...for some reason it sounds unbelievable. I wonder what they thought of us :D.

I've been an Oasis fan for a year, maybe two. I heard some random songs, forgot about them, and picked up on Oasis again this year. I bought 3 of their albums - Heathen Chemistry, (What's The Story) Morning Glory, and one I haven't listened to yet, Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants - oh, what the heck, I'll listen to it now.

My favorite songs... Don't Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, Songbird, Little By Little, She Is Love, Cigarettes in Hell, maybe Go Let It Out.

I've never been to an Oasis concert - or any concert, but I want to change that. Most of you guys have been fans since before I was 10...

I don't know if any of you has read this, but i found it quite interesting,so i decided to share with you lot. :)

Oasis's similarities to the Beatles

The Songs:

Noel Gallagher admits to "borrowing" some of his songs from the Beatles. Here are a few instances...

The beginnings of "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Imagine" sound the same.

The ends of "She's Electric" and "With A Little Help From My Friends" also sound very similar.

Many lyrics also contain references to the Beatles :

"Be Here Now": "Sing a song for me, one from Let It Be"

"D'You Know What I Mean": "The Fool on the Hill and I Feel Fine"

"Fade In-Out": "So get on the Helter Skelter"

"Magic Pie": This could be a reference to "Flaming Pie," a song and album by Paul McCartney and also an element of a story written by John Lennon about the Beatles' origins

"Morning Glory": "I'm walking to the sound of my favorite tune/Tomorrow Never Knows what it doesn't know too soon"

"Wonderwall": "And all the roads we have to walk are winding" could be related to "The Long and Winding Road"

Also, George Harrison wrote the soundtrack for a movie called "Wonderwall"

On Stage

They have been known to cover "I Am the Walrus" live.
In a concert, Liam Gallagher ran behind the keyboards and began banging on them with his elbows, kind of like John Lennon did at the Shea Stadium concert.

Music Videos

"All Around the World" looks very similar to "Yellow Submarine." Also, a yellow submarine is shown getting swallowed by a fish.

Other

Oasis claimed to be "bigger than God," just like John Lennon's statement that The Beatles were "more popular than Jesus."

Oasis fired their first drummer, who had the same lawyer as Pete Best.

And,Liam and Noel Gallagher's moptops...

*Noel Gallagher has covered "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away" (Excellente version by the way).
*Noel played a very weird slow motion version of "Help". Really cool. Recommended!!!
*Noel & The Stereophonics played "I'm Only Sleeping", but it was because a Lennon tribute.

I ordered a set of four Oasis stickers from their web site www.oasisinet.com
What a dissapointment...They look like paper, very bad quality, and I put one in my car that in the first rain simply got destroyed. :grumble:
I have been always looking for Oasis merchandise, but they seem to have few options.
Does somebody know a site where I can buy good quality Oasis stickers?

Anyhow,I've got some great Oasis posters from http://www.pushposters.co.uk. I don't know if they have any stickers, but you should have a look at the site.
http://eil.com. is another good site to find rare records and music memorabilia. :)

I've known about Oasis for a long time, and apparently I've heard a lot of their songs over the years despite never owning one of their albums. I've only recently gone on an Oasis kick because I bought What's the Story and I love the CD! There isn't one song on there I don't like, but my favourites at the moment are Hello, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Cast No Shadow. I plan on buying more of their CDs when I have some money to spend.

That's about all I have to add, since I don't know much about the band :) It's an interesting thread though. You learn something new every day!

They've done more Beatles stuff as well. Octopus's Garden has been performed at the end of Whatever many times.

For the charity record HELP in aid of Warchild (http://www.warchild.org/), Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, Paul McCartney and I believe Johnny Depp formed a group called The Mojo Filters and did a cover of Come Together.

In the mid 90s, Noel & Liam joined Ocean Colour Scene (http://www.oceancolourscene.com/) on stage to do a cover of Day Tripper. It was awesome!!!

Ohh Yeah..I have that "Help" album. Oasis plays an excellent version of their song "Fade Away" which also appears in the single "Don't Go Away" in its Japanese version (Which I also have ;) ). The last song of the album is "Come Together" which is mainly sung by Paul Weller, with some backing vocals by Paul McCartney. Noel Gallagher simply plays guitar. I love that album (Help!). It's really weird, an most of their songs were recorded in one day! Artists just got together and made a song for the album. The combination of the songs are very very odd, but lovely!
"Help!" is really worth to buy (It's hard to find, but worth the effort). The album not only has that fantastic version of "Fade Away" but:
*** Radiohead made an excellent song of "Lucky"
*** Suede with the song "Shipbiulding" is outstanding!
*** I'm not a big fan of Sinead O'Connor, but her cover of Bobby Gentry in "Ode To Billy Joe" is touchy.
*** Massive Attack version of "Fake The Aroma" is in my opinion much better than the original version.
*** Manic Street Preachers cover of Burt Bacharach "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head" is AWESOME....it's really good. (One of the best songs of the album)
*** Portishead's "Morning Air"....SIMPLY EXCELLENT!!!
*** The Boo Radley song "Oh Brother" is a very good one.
*** I even love the version of the most odd song of the entire album "Dream a Little Dream"...Very lovely done by Terry Hall and Salad (Not very well-known artists).
*** The Charlatans UK got together with Chemical Brothers in an excellent tune "Time for Living".
Morgoth, if you have the album, great, but if you don't have it and you see it, buy it. It's an interesting weird album to have. It's nice to listen and crazy. :D
The weakness os the album? The Stone Roses version of "Love Spreads" :td: and Blur appearance is rather weak.

I don't have the second help album, but I do have that song "Marry Xmas Everybody" It's lovely tune that fits perfectly in Noel singing-style. Right now it is the song that I listen the most. :)

Back when Oasis became famous with their hit "Wonderwall", almot every guy I know in highschool just loved the tune. Some of them even 'vandalised' every classroom's blackboard with lyrics of 'Wonderwall'. And when they shared a private joke in class and then laughed out loud, our teacher would become intrigued and asked, "Hey... what's the story..", and before she could finished her sentence the whole class replied in unison, "Morning Glory!!" We all laughed everytime that happened, even those people like me who absent-mindedly refuses to acknowledge the band. And even the teachers laughed and jokingly repeated the same question the following week. Those were the days where a music band could actually made a random moment became a warm, fun and happy moment, universally shared by all.

However, growing up listening more on American music, and liking Pearl Jam and Nirvana instead, I must say I'm not very familiar with British bands and their music revolution. On radio, the mainstream radio station would air Rickdees and the Weekly Top 40, and right afterwards, the UK Top 40, the latter usually ignored by me. I must say, I didn't pay attention to British scene much since they're usually have these techno sound and house music and dance mix, which, are not my favorites. Thus I missed a lot of British acts. Oasis, for me, was one of the likes of the band who sang 'Lemon Tree' (which I really, really am not fond of).

I was skeptical about Oasis, since I do think that the song 'Wonderwall' was way overrated. I couldn't understand the hype of it, so I kind of ignored them altogether. The only song I still find catchy and not overrated was 'Don't Look Back (In Anger)'. Other than that, I just didn't take notice. Don't shoot me Oasis-fans!

The music video for 'The Hindu Times', which was shown repeatedly on one of our local channel, was somewhat a notice for me that the band didn't fade away. The title alone made me curious to have a listen. But still, I wasn't that interested in them somehow.

However, as I got to know them better (thank you Javier for the CD :) ) I'm still adjusting to their sounds. British rocks have different tunes than American rocks. Though I found a few of Oasis songs beautifully sung, I'm still pretty new with them. One of my current favorite is 'Let's All Make Believe'.

Yeah... their songs are pretty cool, once you listen to them a couple of times. :)

The same thing occurred to me. Actually, it was Oasis the band that opened the British bands to me. After I became in a Oasis fan, I started to pay more attention to British bands. I started to listen the bands that were the base of Oasis. Then I discovered The Stone Roses, The Charlatans UK, Blur, and others. In addition, I started to read a lot about Oasis, and I started to listen the bands that Noel considers as good. Then I discovered Ocean Colour Scene, The Verve, The Jam, Doves, Manic Street Preachers and others. So my musical world span at a huge pace. There is a lot I have to show gratitude to Noel Gallagher. Before Oasis, I was listening 90% of the American rock bands. Now, I listen about a 75% of British bands. I prefer now the British rock than American rock.

Oasis, for me, was one of the likes of the band who sang 'Lemon Tree' (which I really, really am not fond of).

Very different styles. By the way, I’m listening Fool’s Garden right now. :p Well, about Fool’s Garden I can say that it’s an excellent band, and they are among my favorite bands. I don’t know why, but they have very catchy songs very rich in melody like The Beatles were in their times. The Beatles is practically the main influence for Fool’s Garden. Fool’s Garden has made some excellent covers of The Beatles where “Martha, My Dear” is an excellent example. Do not get fooled by “Lemon Tree”. Fool’s Garden has a lot of good tunes. It’s weird since I don’t like too much this kind of bands, but Fool’s Garden has “something” I like a lot. They have released four albums, I have the last three. I haven’t been able to find the first one called “Once In A Blue Moon”. Stellaluna couln’t find it neither in Germany and Fool’s Garden is a German band.

I was skeptical about Oasis, since I do think that the song 'Wonderwall' was way overrated. I couldn't understand the hype of it, so I kind of ignored them altogether. I will not shoot you *I can’t find the darn pistol * Wonderwall was aired like crazy, but even so, I still love that tune, and I can listen it and listen it. “Don’t Look Back In Anger” is for me the best Oasis song.

However, as I got to know them better (thank you Javier for the CD :) )
You are very welcome!!! :)

I'm still adjusting to their sounds. British rocks have different tunes than American rocks.
FORTUNATELY!!! ;)

Though I found a few of Oasis songs beautifully sung, I'm still pretty new with them. One of my current favorite is 'Let's All Make Believe'.

That is a beautiful song! Another excellent b-side song that Noel didn’t consider to record in an album. There are many of b-side songs that could have easily make it as a-songs. (Acquiesce, Cigarettes in Hell, The Masterplan, D’yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?, Full-On, Half The World Away, Listen Up and maybe other)

Don't look back in anger is, indeed, one of their best songs, but Wonderwall is great too. Honestly,i love Wonderwall so much because my brother hates it,he will leave the room immediately if i turn that song on.:D Also,Wonderwall is one of those Oasis songs that reveal the raw beauty of Liam's voice and Noel's lyrics. The lyrics and the chords are quite plain and simple but at the same time, emotional and fantastic.

I love Wonderwall.
But the ultimate song has been "Champagne Supernova". I mean, I love that song.
Yesterday they asked me which were my favorite bands and I nearly get lynched cos they didn't include any heavy rock or hip hop groups. I said, "Oasis, Coldplay, U2 (some people didn't even know who they are!) and t.A.T.u".
I got a couple of funny looks. But I don't care. Oasis is way better than Mystikal or whatever their names are.

And who are those Mystikal?? Never heard about it. They must be pretty bad. The only thing (Objection) is what is t.A.T.u doing among such a great bands you listen like U2, Oasis and Coldplay. It's like burning a CD half with Marylin Manson and half Ricky Martin.

Oh..I had forgotten this thread. Probably the best thread in the forum :D
I had posted infor regarding to Oasis five albums released so far. Now, I will add another album that was recorded after (Supposedly) fan's pick of their best choices for b-side songs via Internet (I guess  ). Anyway the album was called The Masterplan, and it is another masterpiece of this great british band.

The Masterplan (Released in Nov 1998)

Acquiesce (Gallagher)
Underneath the Sky (Gallagher)
Talk Tonight (Gallagher)
Going Nowhere (Gallagher)
Fade Away (Gallagher)
The Swamp Song (Gallagher)
I Am the Walrus [live] (Lennon-McCartney)
Listen Up (Gallagher)
Rockin' Chair (Gallagher)
Half the World Away (Gallagher)
It's Good to Be Free (Gallagher)
Stay Young (Gallagher)
Headshrinker (Gallagher)
The Master Plan (Gallagher)

Very acclaimed record that shows that Noel Gallagher does not composed songs to be aimed as b-side songs. Noel Gallagher once said that he does not compose b-side songs, and he does not have intentions to composed bad songs just to be b-side songs. This album is a proof of that since it has truly gems like The Masterplan, Aquiesce, It's Good To Be Free, Talk Tonight. Liam Gallagher wanted The Masterplan to be a a-side song, but Noel decided to put it as a b-side song of the epic single Wonderwall. Later Noel said that he shouldn't have put such a good song as a b-side. He has even said in several opportunities that The Masterplan is his best song ever. However, probably the best tune here is Aquiesce. With an excellent electric guitar playing, this song is believed being composed by Noel for his brother Liam. Noel has denied it, but certainly it could be thought as that. Both brothers sing the song together where Noel does the high pitched chorus (Liam cannot reach high notes), and Liam doing the verses, the song has the chorus:
Because we need each other
We believe in one another
And I know we're going to uncover
What's sleepin' in our soul
That has made people to think about Noel composing this song to Liam. Half the World Again is a nice acoustic tune which happens to be Paul Weller's favorite of the Noel's compositions. Paul Weller has played this song in some shows. Talk Tonight is another beautiful acoustic piece. Going Nowhere is a very simple and catchy song, probably a tribute to Burt Bacharach from who Noel is a big admirer. A Bacharach's poster can be seen in the Oasis first album Definitely Maybe. I am the Walrus live version is great!

My top five in this album?
Aquiesce
The Masterplan
Half the World Again
Listen Up
Talk Tonight

http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drd300/d347/d3471527fs3.jpg

Next I will talk more about the Oasis b-side song which are great! and some other songs that have been unreleased that unfortunately I haven't listened yet. Among those unreleased songs is Solve My Mystery, a truly beautiful song.

Finally a good quote from Aquiesce

You want to be alone
When we could be alive instead

OASIS drummer, Alan White, is said to have left the band :(
Excerpt from www.nme.com:

OASIS drummer ALAN WHITE has reportedly left the band.

According to yesterday’s The Star newspaper (January 11), the drummer has decided to leave the group because of an ongoing problem with tendonitis.

An official spokesperson for the band is unable to confirm the reports to NME.COM today, and there has been no official comment.

Alan White provided to be a solid and stable drummer after the fiasco of Oasis' first drummer Tony McCarroll

I like Oasis alot actually and I saw them play live on 14th August 1996 in Cork...good gig that! Personally all my favourite songs are the ones sung by Noel and not Liam....I just think that Liam is a twat, at that gig I mentioned above he walked off stage so many times, I lost count and Noel picked up all the slack and was fantastic.

I defy anyone to say that "Don't look back in Anger" isn't a great song or "The Masterplan" either, written and sung by Noel....absolutley genius!!!

I've heard people say that Noel is the heart but Liam's the Soul.....I don't agree :)

Oasis will live forever!

It's really hard being a fan of Oasis in America. I only heard one song off of Heathen Chemistry on the radio, and that was on some obscure radio program at 7 in the morning on a Sunday. When they were popular in America you could hear Wonderwall or Champagne Supernova all the time, but those days are long gone. I was amazed when I went to England and actually heard Rockin' Chair on the radio while in a taxi.

I have yet to even see them in concert. By the time I find out that they are coming here it seems like it always too late. Usually by that point my brother's have purchased their tickets and forgot to ask me. It would be different if at least one of my friends was a fan, but none of them are. Oh well, I'll just have to get by on the cd's and dvd for now.

I decided that this picture probably belongs in here. Keep in mind that I made this back in June before the book even came out. That means that the back cover has no reference to anything so it looks weird. Also, forgive the fact that Noel is reading the American version of the book.

From NME:

NOEL GALLAGHER has announced OASIS will play no new material at the band's forthcoming headlining slot at GLASTONBURY.

Oasis will play the festival with Ringo Starr’s son Zak Starkey on drums. The festival appearance will be his first with the band.

"It's a pity that we haven't actually got any new stuff to play but I think we kind of George Best'ed it the last time we headlined it. So this time will be great I think," Noel explained to BBC 6 Music.

"Then again we're not doing ourselves any favours because Zak's first gig will be to 150,000 people but y'know. He's rehearsing all the Oasis songs now."

The star also shed light on why the band continued without Death In Vegas producers Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes.

"We're in the studio at the moment, it's going alright, one step forward two steps back, but it's going alright. I dunno whether it'll be out by the end of the year. We didn't sack our producers, we just ran out of time."

He added: "They had to go off and do their Death In Vegas thing and we sort of gave ourselves about three or four weeks with them, and we just ran out of time, but there wasn't a sacking.

"We're trying to get this album finished and it's taking a little bit longer than expected but there isn't any rush on it really. We were trying to get it out by Glastonbury but it doesn't seem to be working out that way now."

Noel also spoke of new friends Franz Ferdinand, whom he met at the band's show at the London Astoria last week (May 6).

He concluded: "If we don't there's no rush really - Franz Ferdinand will look after the charts for us, I'd have thought."

The band headline Glastonbury on Friday June 25

NOEL GALLAGHER and IAN BROWN have collaborated on a track for the former STONE ROSES vocalist's new album.

According to The Sun newspaper, the pair met by chance at the Electric Cinema in London’s Notting Hill.

"We got talking about music and agreed we should do something," explained Brown .

He added: "Noel sent me some music he’d done and I recorded a vocal. The result is brilliant, I’m really excited. I hope it will be a single."

The news comes after denials from the Oasis camp that Liam was to form a supergroup with ex-Roses guitarist John Squire. As previously reported on NME.COM, the band claim the story was "dreamed up" by editorial staff at The Sun.

Oasis are currently working in the studio on the follow-up to ’Heathen Chemistry’, which is due for release later this year.

Brown’s new album is expected in August or September.

So, Oasis has some direct connection with the Beatles!....Nah..Just kidding!!! though it's good to know that they got a new drummer. I even thought that after this upcoming album the band will disband...that is dreadful to me!

Liam working with John Squire? Hmmm that would be interesting though I think that the real genius behind The Stone Roses was Ian Brown. Squire was a brilliant guitar player....but his solo first album "Time Changes Everything...er... stinks. He just released a new album that I haven't listened yet, but after "Time Changes Everything" I got scared! I have read good reviews for Squires' last album (Marshall's House) though..

I can understand you. I live in Hungary... At least in the USA they HAVE concerts, but here... Although in 2000 I saw them at the Sziget festival (Budapest), but it was an awful gig without Noel... And that was their only one gig in this country. But i don't complain. I had my own Oasis site, (I've done it with my sister), and we got some letters from other hungarian Oasis fans. OH MY GOD THIS THREAD WAS OPENED AND I MISSED IT!

Anyway, Oasis is and always will be the greatest and my favorite band of all time. Musically it blasts, drives, encourages, excites, and inspires my soul. Noel Gallagher is magic when he writes songs. Since the first lyricless Columbia to My Generation at Glastonbury a few days ago, Oasis have rocked and rolled their way into mine and millions of others fans' lives. It's quite a shame they haven't caught on in America, even though albums have gone Platinum and they've played sold out shows.

I have to laugh at the critics who say the newer Oasis sucks, it doesn't. Is it as good as the old? Hell no but it is 100x better than the pieces of **** that pretend they are true rock and roll today. Also with all the "embarassing" things that people don't like Oasis for, I happen to think they are the most hilarious things ever and it is part of what makes Oasis so great. Liam at the MTV awards? I laughed my butt off. Liam challanging Harrison and Kieth Richards to a fight? Noel and Liam getting Harrison's son drunk out of his mind, puking everywhere, dropping him off with George with the line "You've just been Gallaghered?" Every story makes me chuckle, laugh, and smile. Wibbling Rivalry? I can't stop listening to it!

Noel: "It's Liam again isn't it?"

I know it's late to be posting this but in MY opinion, Oasis is, quite basically, the Gallagher brothers, and no matter how many drummers or bass players leave, they will still sound the same.

Oasis are probably my third favourite band, (Coldplay and the Verve before them).
They played a great set at Glastonbury, and hopefully they will have a new album out pretty soon.

My favourite Oasis lyric is: - Thank You for your smile, you make it all worthwhile to us" from Little James

My favourite song is probably "Talk Tonight" or "Wonderwall" although i do like the new Ryan Adams version of the Oasis classic. I think that for British people at least, Oasis will go down as one of the greatest bands of all time. No so sure about the rest of the world though.

It annoys me sometimes because the last time i was in America was when Heathen Chemistry was just repleased. My cousins over there have basically the same taste in music as me but they had no idea who Coldplay, The Verve or Oasis were. Even though it wasn't there fault, i was still annoyed that these great bands were not getting the worldwide regongnition that they deserved. Coldplay have got it now, but Oasis have never which is dissapointing!

“Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” could be a hard to digest Oasis album since it’s the more “different”, but I just love it, and after “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory” is my favorite album. It relaxes me a lot. VERY Curiously, I am a huge fan of Noel singing, but the couple of songs in this album that Noel sings are probably the ones I like the less. The b-side songs for “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants” are probably the best b-side songs Noel has written. With “Full-On”, (As Long As They’ve Got) Cigarettes in Hell”, Carry Us All,” and “Let’s All Make Believe” Oasis could have released a awesome album. “Go Let It Out”, “Who Feels Love?”, “Gas Panic” and “Roll It Over” are more than worth to buy the album. :)

I can't wait till September, new Oasis DVD coming out called Definately Maybe, which has live footage of each song, along with interviews and it's a complete documentary about the best debut album of all time.

I absolutely love their music, but I thought Liam and Noel were prats. They effectively brought about the end of their band because they couldn't stop fighting, and it drove all the rest of the members crazy and they left.

They were hardly the Beatles... but I liked them a lot.

End of the band? The band is still alive and kicking! A sixth album is being recorded and the band just played a great show at the Glastonbury festival.

At least it's in the works, right? I'm hoping they might get big stateside again.

Here is the letter of Noel to the nme:
"Dear NME,

"We started talking about recording a new Oasis album in November last year. We thought it would be a great idea to try something different with the production this time around, and Liam came up with the idea of using Death In Vegas as producers/mixers, which everyone believed would be a fantastic collaboration.

"We drew up a list of songs (10 in total), booked Sawmills Studio in Cornwall and gave ourselves three weeks. Unfortunately, after the recording process we decided we didn't like anything we had played/recorded during those three weeks, and because of commitments with Death In Vegas, Richard Fearless and Tim Holmes couldn't find any more time to give to the project. It was then decided we would attempt to finish off the record ourselves, which so far has proven quite frustrating and fruitless. All the while, new songs have been written and old ones have fallen away. So we think the 'moment' for that particular record has passed.

"We plan to start work on a new set of songs some time in July and we hope to have a new album out in February/March 2005, so hopefully you will hear some new tunes by the end of the year.

"As for the other two points you've raised, the one about separate dressing rooms, is as usual, laughable. And as for not watching Macca from the stage, all I can say is Liam and his friends did, and me and my friends prefer the shared experience of the masses to the privileged position of the few. Now if you don't mind...

"Peace, love and bananas,

"Noel Gallagher."

My opinion, they are rip-offs of bands from 60-70s, just like Jet and the Darkness, they just did it first. WHats the point of doing somethings thats already been done.

I have a thing for Brit rock, it's a lot more composed than most Western bands. I still haven't heard as much as I would like about them, but Wonderwall, Rock n Roll Star, and cigarettes... Pretty good stuff, and great variety in songs, which is a rare thing.

Isn't it all different members except for the Gallager brothers though?

Andy and Gem have been on since 2000, and the drummer was just released after about a 10 year run. It is a different Oasis, but they still rock just as hard.

McCarrol was kicked out due to his irresponsible behavior and drug abuse.
Bonehead and Paul McGuigan left the band mostly because their families. THey married and have children, and they decided to be family men.
Alan White departure is still a mystery. They have been playing with Ringo Starr's son: Zak Starkey though nothing has indicated that he will be Oasis' new drummer.

I've heard many stories about Alan and each is probably as likely as the next, from the file sharing HC scandal to tendinitis in his arms.

Yes, but in fact oasis is Liam and Noel. While they are in the band oasis exists.

Well, Bonehead was kicked by Noel beacause of his behaviour. His father died that time, and he was always drunken. Guigsy left the band because his family.

Oasis is a great, but egotistical band...they were once quoted as saying that they could have been the Beatles if the Beatles had never happened.

Which is true! Really the ego stuff doesn't bother me at all, they've proven they are a great band, and they aren't fake like a lot of bands these days.

WOOHOO!!! :) Great news...

OASIS guitarist NOEL GALLAGHER has spoken out about the release of the band’s forthcoming studio album.

The as-yet-untitled LP will hit the shops on May 16 and features 12 songs written by Noel, singer Liam guitarist Gem Archer and bassist Andy Bell.

He said: "The finished album is my favourite one of the last four. Because we're all contributing to the songwriting there's a different feel to it. In fact the only songs that sound like Oasis are Andy Bell's funnily enough.

"I've been listening to a lot of Bob Dylan last year, Liam was obviously some guy who used to be in a band in Liverpool, Gem's a very rock and roll but not in a Jet way if you know what I mean. Andy's just sound like Oasis, which is great."

The band are currently approving the artwork for the release, which according to Noel "looks quite bleak and northern", but are yet to decide on the first single to be lifted from the LP.

"There was an obvious first single but I was singing it," Noel explained. "After 12 years of Oasis, Liam thought that might sound a bit odd, people might think he'd left the band. He threw his cans out the pram."

Talking to Radio 1's Jo Whiley, the guitarist gave fans an insight into his favourite tracks on the album and said that his brother’s songs are "very, very good".

"If I had to pick one it would be ’The Importance of Being Idle’," he revealed. "That sounds a bit like The Kinks, a bit like The La's, a bit Liverpudlian. I think it's got the best lyrics. I'm getting quite fed up with London at the minute, there's one song called ’Part Of The Queue’ which is about living in London and how you always seem to be queuing up for things in that city and how it almost … when I moved to London about 12 years ago it blew me away but the novelty has worn off. It's become so overcrowded over the last three or four years that we're upping sticks and moving."

Noel said: "The most interesting thing will be when you hear Liam's songs. They are very, very good. A song called ’Guess God Thinks I'm Able’. The end 30 seconds will blow you away. It's great."

OK, so we will have pretty soon a new single of the best band ever, and a new album that is better than (What's the Story) Morning Glory or Be Here Now. That sounds promising. I like the idea to release the new single with Liam on the vox, like it has been always, but I can't deny that I am a bigger fan of Noel's tunes (when he sings)...but anyway, I can't wait to hear those 30 last seconds of "Guess God Thinks I'm Able" that will blow us away :)...

I used to love Oasis when I was younger, I suppose they were the first band that introduced me to rock music. I even named my two hamsters after them, sadly Noel beat Liam up and he died. :)

*lol* Aww, poor Liam :)

I, too, used to love Oasis when I was younger. If I remember correctly I was around 14 years old when I really started to love their music. Back then I could only get my hands on their first three albums as well as The Masterplan which had some really great tracks even though they were all B-sides. I used to listen to their albums over and over again.

Nowadays I'm much more of a numetal fan so I rarely listen to my Oasis albums. But that doesn't change the fact that they make great music.

I wasn't really getting excited about the prospect of a new Oasis album, but I am now. I can't wait to hear "The Importance Of Being Idle", I like the sound of that one.

Oasis are easliy the best band I have ever seen live, Knebworth was out of this world (125,000 people and I got to the front. How chuffed was I?) Earls Court was great but for me the best I have seen them was at Finsbury Park just as they relased Heathen Chemistry. I have been into Dance music for a while but I was blown away by them - it got me back listening to rock.

The best album was Whats the story but album of B sides, The Masterplan, was awesome as well. Infact I have felt there B sides are often better than the singles. My favourtie song so far? a toss up between Masterplan and Champagne Supernova.

This is also their last album on the Sony contract so Oasis will be free agents after this unless they've signed another deal. So that probably means album seven will take 10 years to make

Oasis blows me away...Morning Glory was easily one of the best, if not THE best, albums of the 90s and I'm kicked to death that they're coming out with a new one...sounds interesting, from the title. Practically all the good rock bands of the 90s (the ones I listen to and love even now) were part of what seemed like a major Brit wave- Oasis, The Verve, Pulp and Radiohead, to name just a few. They're great even now, and are among the rare cases of bands whose music outlives the band itself.

Gooner, I really envy you for having gotten to see them live.

Oasis is coming to the USA and Canada with a small gig of five shows :D (Here info (http://www.oasisinet.com/site.php?site=news&idx=532).)
Three shows are already sold-out: Toronto, Madison Square Garden (Sold-out in hours), and Philadelphia (Sold out in a weekend).

Oasis are coming accompanied with the great Australian band Jet (http://www.jettheband.com/). Of course, I bought my tickets just one minute after they were available to general public. I will be going to the Philadelphia concert for the Festival Pier @ Penn’s Landing. It's going to see the first time I will see them live, and I have not to tell you how exciting I am about it!!! :D

Can't wait

A clip from www.nme.com:

"It's The Who,” added Noel. “’Lyla’ was specifically designed for pogoing.”
