This is going around on "Harrypotter.com" so I thought i'd go ahead and mention it here. On October 31st Harry Potter fans around the world are wearing red and gold ribbons on a pin. Spread the word to all of your friends!

no...its Halloween...some Harry Potter fans decided that Harry Potter fans should...show how much they really like Harry Potter.

Every day is Harry Potter day :D
Nah, I just don't think fans need to show that they like Harry Potter. It's something that speaks for itself really, and since so many people enjoy the books that it's major news when someone publishes a negative review, then a badge isn't going to be doing anything any favours.
And the way I see it, us fans already know who we are and we certainly know that we've read and enjoyed the books. Why do we need prove it? :)

Halloween is definitely October 31. :)
I'm also sending this off to the Common Room.

I like that everyone wants to show how much they love Harry Potter, but really, is there a need for a Harry Potter day? If things keep going like this Harry Potter is going to become way too commercialized.

I have to agree with WeasleyIsOurKing. Some things are way to commercialized. But it was cool that they picked the day that Harry defeated Voldemort for the first time.

Yea, as much as I love Harry Potter, I wish there weren't HP action figures, HP broomsticks, HP everything, etc, etc. I'm not sure if a Harry Potter day would make it more commercial, but I think we show our loyalty to Harry and JK by going out and buying all the books (not to mention devoting much of our time that we don't have to this site). So this is just my opinion, but Harry will live on without a special day just for him!!

That's an interseting idea but I agree with what most of you have said.
And Halloween is on the 31st October (obviously, as has already been mentioned). You can't go crowding that day with another event. :p

My big sis once told me, "Jump on the bandwagon if you do so choose." and on this one, I'm choosing not to. We know we're fans of Harry Potter, we have no reason to wear pins to show that.

:agree: I completely agree, I mean, those who are fans, know they are, and there isn't any need for a Harry Potter day. To those who love Harry Potter, pretty much every day is Harry Potter day. Halloween is Halloween, and some do dress up as a character of Harry Potter!

mmm...come one..it's just for fun...anyway I think this is a perfect day to show that Halloween isn't a completely devilish day....well in my country the prayers (specially catholic)...are refusing this party....
mmm....with HP I think this day could have a good sight...HP represents on most situations a valerous and good spirit

I agree everyday is Harry Potter day! :D plus cleansweep11 made a good point, Lilly and James were killed on that day.
This may sound a little corny and/or stupid, but i always thought it would be cool if some fans came up with a day to mourn Sirius' "death" by wearing black arm bands.

Would it not make more sense to have a Harry Potter day on his birthday (July 31st) rather than on Halloween?

Yes, but it would give the Christian fundamentalists much less ammo :-)
And there's nothing they like more than finding new proof that we are all part of a global satanic conspiracy.

I don't think we need to go all public for Harry Potter. It's kind of my own private sanctuary and I don't think many people would remember either. And what is the point? We all know Harry Potter is awesome, we don't need to tell everybody.

Alas, I have read this thread just a tad too late! Halloween has come and gone already!
But I do agree, that I'm not sure that we should set aside JUST one day of the year to be Harry Potter day.
All of us who love the Harry Potter series love it EVERY day. It is a part of our lives.
Although I am not a big fan of all of the HP collectibles, I would certainly love to see a small, refined sort of pin that we could wear if we so choose to show our love of the series.
I have a few HP keychains but only use one, but a nice little tac pin with hp or of a snitch or a little wizard hat or even a little wand with sparkleies coming out would be sufficient.
We could wear it as often as we want, and it wouldn't be too noticeable but other HP fans would know. It could even be worn as a tie tac.
Just something small and discrete.

I think that's taking it too far. Sure I love Harry Potter and all, but there are also a lot of people who don't, and if you wore something commemorative, they would only point this out, and you'd be getting snide comments from Harry-Haters all day, "Ooh I hate Harry Potter, its for babies" etc :D

I agree, for us HP fans every day is HP day. :) Still, I kind of like Windstar's suggestion of some kind of pin. Why run around with a huge scarf or a HP t-shirt when a small and discrete pin is enough?
And if there should ever be such a HP pin, I'd vote for some kind of common Hogwarts pin instead of something red-and-gold (personally I prefer green and silver). Not every HP fan is necessarily a Gryffindor. ;)

How about a nice gold or silver lightning bolt? Or a gold or silver HP? A small snitch? Just something that only we would understand. It wouldn't have to be huge and gawdy nor even have color necesarily.

So they should make green and silver for slytherin, yellow and read for hufflepuff and blue for ravenclaw. If I can find out where they are selling them I will buy one do you know where they are selling them.

I agree with those who say Harry Potter Day should be his birthday (or everyday), but I do see the significance of Halloween.
October 31st:
- Lily and James were killed and Harry broke Voldemort's powers
- Harry, Ron and Hermione took on a twelve foot mountain troll
- the first attack of the Basilisk occured (on Mrs. Norris) and the message in blood was written ("Chamber of Secrets is open...")
- Sirius Black attacked the Fat Lady
- Harry's name came out of the Goblet of Fire
- and... that's it (was I ever disappointed when nothing happened on Halloween in OotP...)
And whoever it was who brought up that thing that McGonagall said about that day being known as "Harry Potter Day" in the future was good too...
Although... suppose whatever day in June of Harry's 7th year the battle between him and Voldemort takes place... that might be a good day to call "Harry Potter Day"...
Then again, we could just keep it simple, as so many of you have said, and call everyday "Harry Potter Day"...

i like this idea way better because that is one of the worse days to put something like this on for younger true fans of the book...they will be too interested in their costumes...and the house colorsare better than just gryffindor colors...hehe...yay for ravenclaw my true house...gryffindor my fantasy house...

Instead of National Harry Potter Day make it International Harry Potter Day or, even better: Universal Harry Potter Day! I think I'll try to scrounge up some other "closet" Harry Potter fan friends of mine, and maybe have a little movie marathon. Problem with most of the people I know is that they won't admit they read Harry Potter because they think its childish. Pah.

Haha. Does anyone know if there's set to be another semi-official HP day in the near future? I know all of us fans have Harry at heart every day, but it would be nice to get the non-HP world a bit involved by having a day for him, too! I vote for Halloween or Harry's b-day, but I prefer Harry's b-day as 1. It's sooner and 2. It's also JK's birthday. Why don't we have a JK Rowling day too, for the heck of it?

I think the ribbon idea is cute. If i knew about it last year i would have worn a ribbon, to go with my Hermione Granger costume. LOL
Ya Harry Potter's B-day is already widely celebrated, so it's basically a Harry Potter day already.

I think it is for the series in general, but I could be wrong. :)
I think it would be better on his birthday, seeing as October 31st is already a holiday. Even though many events occured in the series on Halloween, the younger fans will be dressing up in some other costume. Oh well, I'll have my Gryffindor ribbons on :D

Hmm...I think its cool to have a harry potter day but halloween seems like a very unoriginal day to have it (for obvious reasons) I think it would be cooler to have a different day out of the year where we could go to partys at places like Barns and Noble or something like that. Either way I will have something HP on for halloween.

I agree, that it shouldn't be on October 31, that is already a holiday (kind of).
Does anyone know the date the Sorcerer's Stone was released? That would be a good day because it was the beginning of all the Harry Potter hype.
If it is to be considered Harry Potter Day due to the series and not due to Harry himself, then it would make more sense to have it be on the day the first book was released and not on Harry's birthday.
