Lily Evans

Lily sat pondering over her charms homework in the Gryffendor Common Room. She was angry. James Potter and his rowdy friends would not be quiet. She longed to scream at them to "Shut up!", but felt it wouldnt be polite as she usually was.

Lily's friend, Alice, and her boyfriend, Frank Longbottom, were sitting near her. Alice had just told Frank a joke and he was laughing fit to burst. Lily found her self wishing she could skip homework and sit with them but she never left homework behind and wasn't going to start just then.

"Moony!' called James Potter as Lily began to write down an aswer. It startled her so band the answer smumged and was not legible.

Lily gritted her teeth. "Potter!" she called. "You need to keep it down. I'm trying to study!"

"Sorry... Proffessor Evans." he mocked. "You are worse than Mcgonagle some times."

Lily threw an angry look at him and went back to homework. Flitwick was cracking down this year and she was worried about her grades.

Sirius Black, a friend of James's, was now mocking Lily from the other side of the room. "Quiet! Quiet!" he called in a high pitched voice.

Lily picked up her books and walked up to her dorm. Could they never be quiet? She just wanted an O on her OWL's but she thought it nearly impossible with them around.

Alice came up a moment later.

"Did he finish mocking me?" Lily asked her.

"Uh... well... Frank asked him to stop." Alice said.

Lily sighed. She finished marking number three on her work and looked up at Alice. "Why are some boys such dorks?" she asked. "Frank is okay but Potter and them are so... so..."

"Normal?" Alice suggested.

Lily looked at her.

"Most boys are that way." said Alice. "At least at our age."

"I wish they weren't." Lily anwered.

"Me too, but we can't change it." Alice sighed. "How's Flitwick's homework coming?" she asked.

"Alright I suppose." Lily anwered.

"I finished mine already." said Alice. "I had a bit of trouble on number seven."

"I'm only on number four." said Lily. "Flitwick is cracking down this year. I think the OWL will be a dreadful mess."

"What are you worried about?" asked Alice. "You always make the highest grades on everything you do."

Lily blushed.

"I'm going to bed." Alice continued. "I'm tired."

"Alright then." said Lily.

Alice fell aslieep in a matter of minutes.

Lily finished her homework and leaned on her pallows. Her eyes slowly closed and she felt how long the day had been. she fell asleep fully clothed and didn't awake for many hours.

When Lily awoke, the dorm was empty. She wondered at this. Had she been asleep that long? It was Saturday and the only thing that was happening was the Quidditch game. She stood up and began to get dressed.

In the Great Hall, only a few people still remained. Everyone was out in the stands rooting on Gryffendor and booing Slytherin. James, she remembered, played Quidditch. "All the more reason not to go," she thought. She had better things to do, like study.

As she walked to the dorm she saw Severus Snape. He was an ugly Slytherin boy that hated her. Everytime he saw her, he always worked in the word "Mudblood."

As Lily passed, Snape said, "Why aren't you out on the feild, Mudblood?"

"I have better things to do, Snivelis." Lily had learned this nickname through James and Sirius, who also hated Snape.

Snape scowled. "Like what? Write a love letter to Potter, perhaps? You Gryffendors a pithetic. Why would anyone want to be in that house?"

"Well," said Lily, "it's a great deal better than Slytherin, isn't it?" With that, Lily walked off. Why were the Slytherins so rude? She couldn't help that she wasn't pure blood. That wasn't her fault!

When Lily reached the dorm she found Peter Petagrue, a friend of James's, sitting in the Common Room. "Why," Lily asked, "aren't you watching Potter play?"

"He always makes me nervous, flying so fast." Peter muttered. "What about you?"

"I have better things to do," Lily said. "I need to study, anyway." She walked to the Girls' Dormatory and opened her Potions book. Truthfully, Lily didn't have the heart to study. She would like to watch the game but knew studying was more important.

Alice came in about an hour later. "We won!" she annouced.

"Good," said Lily.

"What's up?" asked Alice.

"Studying."

Alice looked at her. "On a Saturday?"

"Yes!" snapped Lily.

"Oh, sorry." said Alice. She left the dorm.

Lily sat the book down. She leaned back into her pellows and stared at the tiles on the cieling. Daydreams over came her. Dreams of flying and dueling and doing more than just studying. She was getting tired of school.

The next day, Lily and Alyce stolled along the lawn. Lily stared into the black lake. She tossed a piece of toast to the giant squid.

"Alyce," said Lily, "I think I'm getting tired of school."

"You and me both," said Alyce. "But summer is coming. Just wait a few more weeks. Then you can go home."

"Yeah," said Lily, "just a few more weeks."

As they strolled, James Potter and Sirius Black came toward them. "Hello Evans." said James. "How are you?"

"Fine, thanks." Lily said rather stiffly.

"Why weren't you at the game?" asked Sirius.

"I didn't feel like it," said Lily. "Why? What's it to you?"

"Just asking," said Sirius. "You don't have to get all mean."

Sirius and James strolled off.

Alyce looked at Lily. "you know he likes you, right?"

"Who? Black?" asked Lily.

"No, Potter," siad Alice. "He has a major crush on you."

Lily thought about this a moment. Did he really? He was always showing off for her. Lily now had something to think about.

Later, as Lily sat in her dorm, she heard a pecking on one of the windows. Surprised, she got up and opened it.

An old, gray owl flew in and landed on her bed. It looked confused.

"Who are you looking for?" Lily asked.

The owl continued to look confused but then extended it's leg to Lily. She untied the letter, almost certain it wasn't for her.

The letter said:

James
Moony is changing into the warewolf. I'm scared. Meet me at the womping willow, ASAP.
Wormtale

Lily stared at the note. Moony, she knew, was Remus Lupin. But that meant that he was warewolf. Lily was surprised, yet it seemed to make sense. He was absent from class on a monthly bases. Feeling she should tell James about the note, Lily ran down stairs.

She found James in an arm chair by the fire. "Uh, James," said Lily, "this letter came for you. It landed in my dorm."

Lily handed James the note. He read through it then looked in fear at Lily. "You didn't-"

Lily just nodded.

"So you know he's a-"

Lly nodded again.

"This is not good."

"I won't tell anyone." said Lily. "But I asume Dumbledore knows, right?" said Lily.

James nodded.

"Look," said Lily, "I won't tell, honost. Just go and help Peter or Wormtale or watever he's called. I promise I won't tell."

And she didn't. She never told a soul.
