Anybody a fan? I'm just wondering what your favorite college football rivalry might be. The big OU- Texas weekend is coming up. I used to live in Norman (OU), and now I live in Austin (UT) and I've switched over to being a UT fan, but I can't get used to how they call it the Texas- Oklahoma game here.

There are so many good rivalries that it is hard to choose, but my favorite rivalry would have to be Ohio St.-Michigan. I think that Michigan has a chance of winning this year although they lost the last two times they have played Ohio St. About Texas and Oklahoma, they better watch out for Baylor.

That Baylor game this weekend- unreal. Baylor as a campus had such a rough summer with the missing basketball player found dead, and then the whole b-ball scandal. So if the football team is stepping up and winning some games, that's great.
yeah, UT can get beat in Waco- that's just a strange place to play.

Hmm.. well I guess I would say I support Indiana's Purdue Boilermakers (I think that's what they're called), since my dad went to Purdue and everything. I follow professional football more, though, and all I have to say is... Go Packers!
Yes, I am a Packers fan living in Chicagoland. So sue me.

I have a couple teams I support.. Notre Dame (they're just a young team I swear) NCState (I have a friend playing OL there) USF (Lots of guys I know play there) and FSU of course since I do live in FL.
Professional football is really more my thing, and there I am a tried and true Bucs fan. And, what's more I'm not embarrassed to say that after last night's game!

Otherwise, I really like Michigan as far as the Big 10 conferance goes.

I am a fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks, so to me the biggest rivalry is South Carolina-Clemson but I am biased. The other top rivalries are:
Navy-Army
Florida-Florida State
Duke-North Carolina
Georgia Tech-Georgia

I am not much of a football fan... but my AP US History teacher is..
he is an alumni of UCLA and he is just.... crazy about football and UCLA (Bruins....)
He is obsessed with them so much that he cancels our daily US History quizzes the day after a game if UCLA wins....
He's really nice though.... but whenever I think of him, it's UCLA and football....^^
*Note: I've just noticed that on the first setence, I've written 'hockey' instead of football... what was I thinking... :wow: I've got it fixed now....:elaugh:

Did anyone see the Oklahoma-Texas game? X_x Did Texas really deserve to be ranked #11 or is Oklahoma just that good? Oklahoma and Miami seem to be above the level of everyone else. I think those two will be in the National Championship game. Moving to my favorite confrence, Ohio St. deserved to lose. I think that Iowa will win that confrence and end up in the Rose Bowl. v_v Pittsburgh also lost. They couldn't establish a run game at all. I think that Georgia also proved that they're the best in the SEC this weekend.

Both, I think. Texas already had lost before, they weren't that good, but Oklahoma just has an inpenetrable defense. Then again, next week, it's Mizzou vs. Oklahoma, and last time Brad Smith faced an inpenetrable defense, he tore them up for over 200 yards rushing. So we'll see.

I dont think there is a "good" team out there this year. Miami is playing horribly, so are Florida and Florida State (usually the top three teams) Then of course Ohio State and everyone else. No one is looking like they deserve to be national champions yet this year. I guess there's still half a season to play, but someone has got to step it up!

I'm an Auburn fan all the way. I've loved them since I was old enough to know that orange and blue are much better colors than red and white, I went to school there, graduated from there, and I'm making another trip there Saturday. War eagle!
As far as rivalries go, our famous one is, of course, Auburn vs. Alabama, but I dont like this rivalry; its too overhyped and silly. I prefer the Auburn vs. Georgia games, they're a more fun rivalry, the fans are better (except the past two years. . . I hope Richt's FSU background doesn't rub off on them), the games are much more interesting, and it's the oldest rivalry in the South don't ya know.

Woohoo, another Auburn fan! Who was it that you knew?
There was a football player that was stationed next to me in organic chem lab; his name was Rob Pate. Nicest guy, but he couldn't hold on to any of that fragile glass paraphenalia we used, poor thing. At the end of the semester he had to pay over $200 in damage fees. He could hold a football, though (thank goodness).
I also was a fan of Florida this past week; thank you for beating LSU, that was nice of ya.

How about my man Brad Smith? 290 rushing yards and five - count 'em, five - rushing TDs.
BTW, can anyone stop Oklahoma? Colorado came closer than anyone, and they're not even that good, but I have a feeling that was a down week of the Sooners. (A down week and they won by 14.)

Is Oklahoma playing Nebraska this year, or did they already play without me noticing? It doesn't seem like anyone will beat Oklahoma this year, but then again Wisconson lost to Northwestern this week. Michigan won big against Purdue so it looks like the Big Ten will be decided on the Ohio St.- Michigan game again. Ole Miss is the only SEC team with no confrence losses...

And I could have told everyone you that were an Ag- just from the TU thing. But that's OK. Some of my good friends are Aggies. Yeah, UT has lost to OU four years in a row now. I think we all knew they'd lose this year, all OU had to do was put their team on the field. We didn't know UT was going to lose that game the way they did, though.

I don't think OU has Nebraska on the schedule this year. They could meet in the championship, I guess. It seems like Nebraska qualifies as a long time OU rival. When I was a kid they used to meet up in the Orange Bowl some.
UT plays Nebraska this Saturday in Austin. That ought to be a game. (Unlike UT / Baylor this week: 53-0 or something.) UT beat Nebraska at home a few years back, breaking some kind of long term winning streak. I think both these teams are having underwhelming seasons this year. Predictions?

Mississippi State isn't doing to great this year. I don't think very many people care about the MSU-Ole Miss game this year because of the Ole Miss-LSU game coming up. Moving to other confrences, I think that Ohio State will either lose to Purdue or Michigan or both. Oklahoma-Baylor = 105-0.

Everybody in the Big 12 kind of thinks Nebraska is a rival. When I was an OU fan, the Nebraska game was a big deal. When I came to UT, the Nebraska game was a big deal- big enough that the last year UT beat Nebraska in Lincoln, UT students poured out into the streets in Austin and blocked traffic. Now I hear that Colorado thinks Nebraska is their rival. I think it's because the Huskers were so good for so long.

We of course would have liked to be undisputed national champs, but you can't please all the people all the time. We got the crystal trophy, and the sheer joy of having been the underdog all year, the one they counted out, only to come back and show everybody how talented we are. I haven't heard the latest rule changes, just wanted to say that I'm not a fan of the BCS. I mean, it's not bad, but I actually prefered the ambiguity of the previous bowl games set-up. I don't know why I feel that way, perhaps I'm just old-fashioned. Plus, games after New Year's Day? Especially the most important games? Still doesn't feel right to me.

I was there and saw it and they sure looked good that first half... but they basiclly gave OU the game with two second half turnovers inside the 10 yard line... o'well they still played good and have Texas Tech Comming up once again at Kyle Feild... it seems that this year the Aggies have been better then last year and with no significent seniors except Terence Murphy leaving it looks like they might be even better next year... so all I can say is that it is looking good for the people down in College Station... and GIG'EM AGGIES

I am a huge Ohio State fan. We've had kind of a down year this year, but there is always the Michigan game to save an otherwise disappointing season. I really think they have a legitimate shot at beating them. And I get to go to the game this year, which I am crazy excited about.
OSU - Michigan is definitely one of the biggest rivalries in sports. I mean, this week is Beat Michigan week on campus, and we have things planned for every day. (Including the largest pillowfight in the history of manking, among other things.)

I cant believe how few USC fans there are out there! Although i am used to everyone that didnt go there hating us. they just cant stand how good SC is!!! I mean seriously, Reggie Bush? INSANELY GOOD. But i have to say i feel for Auburn right now, we of all people know what it means to get screwed by the BCS. They need to get rid of that crazy broken down system and have playoffs!!!! thats the only way that everyone will be happy, except of course the college presidents and the bowl organizers because they wont get their big fat paychecks! anywho, go USC, repeat national champions-to-be!!!!!

AU would beat either USC or OU, mark my words. Best football team I've ever seen, without doubt. Its a shame that the polls are prejudiced against the new blood schools as opposed to old dynasties. The AU/VA Tech game won't even be close. The Tigers will march to a 13-0 season through the toughest conference in the nation and still get no respect. The BCS is a joke, and it needs to go.

But, see, what you need in order to get BCS recognition is a really whiney coach! What a beautiful system!

I wouldn't wager on that, as good as Auburn is, USC is a class above and Oklahoma has THE best coach in College football, still a playoff system would settle this question, shame it won't be done this year. Say what you want about the Texas Coach, he got his team in...

That is why they pay the man the big bucks. I just really hope he can win a bowl game for a change.

Stoops being the best coach in football is a far cry, my friend. In my book he's still mini-Steve, and with the visored one back, he'll be in the shadow again.
Give AU a shot at either team. The offense Borges has installed is a killer, it breaks down defenses. And the AU defense is highly ranked, as well.

The problem for Auburn is that they played non-conference games against Louisiana Tech, UL Monroe, and The Citadel...USC and Oklahoma didn't exactly play a bunch of powerhouse teams in non-conference (USC did play Va Tech though) but that could have been the difference. I'm just glad I attended and am a fan of a 1-AA school...we actually have playoffs, imagine that!

Neither USC or Oklahoma would've run the table in the SEC. I doubt either team would've been able to even beat Alabama. But, I can't change the system, only wait till Jan. 4. AU vs. Va. Tech. War Eagle!

All that non-conference schedule stuff is one big, fat, red herring. The strength of a team should not be judged by who didn't matter on the schedule, it should be who really, really did matter. Many teams could've beaten those three, not every team could've beaten LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee twice. The media threw out that non-conference schedule out there to find SOMETHING to knock somebody down.
It's not even our AD's fault about the schedule. We wern't supposed to play the Citadel, we had Bowling Green scheduled. Well guess what happened -- they got out of the contract to play . . . Oklahoma. Our AD had to find someone to replace ol' Bowling and everybody was already scheduled in somewhere else. All that could come to our aid was the Citadel.
I agree on the playoff system, it is absolutely what is needed. Too bad money gets in the way.

Pete Carroll is one of the best, classiest and most inspiring coaches that ther has ever been in college football. while i understand that texas' coach lobbied hard for his team in the weeks preceding the bcs final standings, most coaches have the self respect and the respect for their programs to accept that the system is flawed, and not be "whiney" in order to guarantee themselves a spot. all of last post-season when USC deserved to be in the bcs title game, carroll never once was anything less than polite, complimentary and respectful of the other teams, even when he expressed disappointment in the system. the problem is not the coaches, it isnt the players, it is the college presidents and the bcs commissioners and their obsession with making the most money off unpaid, "unprofessional" college players. That and the NCAA's ridiculous double standards about athleticism, academia and professional standing. i still feel for the teams left out by the BCS, but until a better system (preferably a playoff!!!!) is devised, someone will always be left on the outside, whether it is like USC was last year, or auburn and cal were this year.
edit: btw, yes USC is an oldschool powerhouse, but that was like 30 years ago. we've been good since yes, been great since, but its only been in the last 3-4 years, since carroll came that we are a "storied powerhouse" once again. i went to USC when Hackett was still there and the only cheers i learned that year were the ones that involved "fire hackett" as their bylines.

I must agree, I was so worried Mack Brown would screw it up for us but thank God we had Vince Young there to save us, he did a superb job. I'm excited about this USC, OU matchup and I must say, I'm rootin' for OU even though they are one of our biggest rivals. Well, we'll see what happens on Tuesday.

I'm not that much of a football fan (I usually don't have the slightest clue about what's going on in a game), but at my house, it's LSU all the way. I think Saban's decision to leave ruined my purple-and-gold-bleeding daddy's Christmas. Just for him -- Geaux Tigers!
