Any fans of the anima/manga Fruits Basket?

I've got a box set of the complete anime now, and I must have watched it about three times, all the way through all 26 episodes. It seems like I'm either teary-eyed or giggling through most of it. I've started watching it with the japanese language/english subtitles now, and it's surprising what differences there are. Sometimes the dubbed version completely missed or misinterpreted a plot point or nuance. (Other times, I thought the English dubbed version was much funnier and clearer. Cultural differences, I guess.)

Anyone else? Anyone got the manga, and can tell what differences there are between that and the TV show? I've heard that Shigure seemed to be more underhanded and scheming in the manga, but he was really fairly manipulative in the anime as well, under all the comedy....he's my favorite character, in any case.

I'm so jealous - a boxed set? I have one of the DVDs. I haven't read (or even come close to) the Manga at all either. I really like Fruits Basket because it's just like nothing I had seen before. I wasn't a huge anime fan, I had only seen one Anime film (but smart of me to have made it Oscar Winning and brilliant Spirited Away) and I only got into Fruits Basket because of one of my closest friends :D

My favourite character is also Shigure,. I'm noticing a pattern here. My favourite (because I haven't seen them all) is the first episode.

One guy had boxed sets for sale on Ebay for 37.99, with free shipping. It doesn't look bootleg, though I have no way of knowing, of course! Nice packaging, anyway :p I might be able to contact him and see if he has any more left....

So, you must have seen the first of the DVD's, eh? You really have to see the whole series...the story slowly keeps building and gets really dark for a few episodes toward the end. You haven't even seen Yuki's brother Ayame yet! Or Shigure's poor editor! If you can't get the videos yourself, see if your library can get them for you on interloan. (/broken record!)

You like Shigure, too, eh? Isn't he particularly adorable when he shifts to Chibi style?

If anyone's interested, it looks like an English version of the manga will be published, starting in February!

The anime series only covered the first six books, so it will be fun to see what happened afterward. I got hold of a Japanese copy of Volume 11, with a handy translation included, so if anyone is curio0us to see where the characters are at that point, here's a spoiler synopsis:

Akito has gone to the seaside and invited the whole zodiac to go along with him. He has become jealous of Tohru, and gets more annoyed anytime her name is mentioned. Tohru is also along, but Akito has it planned that he will keep everyone pretty much dancing attendance on him, so Tohru will be left alone the whole time. Rin (new character) points out that Kyo is with her, and Akito says "What fun is it to be alone with a monster?"

But he apparently takes more notice of that than he lets on, and summons Kyo to him next. In his conversation with Kyo, it turns out that Akito has a bet with him, that if Kyo ever beats Yuki, he will be allowed to join the zodiac. Now Akito decides to up the stakes: he says that if Kyo hasn't beaten Yuki by the time high school ends, Kyo will spend the rest of his life locked up. He then browbeats Kyo that it would be better for Tohru if he left her now, that a monster like him has no right to love anyone.

Kyo takes it to heart, but after leaving Akito, changes his mind and goes back to Tohru. Bit by bit, everyone spends all their free time with Tohru, and Akito complains to Shigure that she is stealing his family away from him. "Even you're not as nice to me anymore."

Tohru briefly meets Isuzu, the horse (a tall, dark-haired girl who has been adopted by Kagura's mother, who we meet briefly) and begins wondering about Akito's role in the zodiac, and whether he is the bird/rooster.

That night, Akito comes to the house where Tohru is staying, and catches Momiji outside. He starts beating Momiji up. Tohru runs out yelling for him to stop.

Akito leaves Momiji alone and turns on Tohru. "How dare you give me an order!" He tells her that she can't take his family away from him: that Kyo will spend the rest of his life locked in a cage, and that he will keep Yuki locked up in the main house, away from her as well. He briefly and sarcastically introduces Rin, the bird. (Haru had infuriated him earlier by commenting that it was weird that Tohru had not met Rin yet.)

Tohru, now knowing Akito is not the bird, asks what he is to the zodiac, and Akito tells her that he is God, who invites the animals to the banquet, which is why nobody can go against his wishes without paying a terrible price. Tohru realizes that the only way she can truly help her friends is to find a way to break the curse.

Akito attacks her and claws her across the face, but meanwhile, Momiji has called Hatori, and he and Shigure show up to restrain Akito and take him home.

The story ends with Tohru setting off fireworks on the beach the next day with Yuki, Kyo, Momiji, Haru, Kisa and Hiro.

I do not know much about the manga except that they show all of the zodiac and the anime is missing two...unfortunately their names escape me at the moment...hmm...they must be hidding under an invisiablity cloak. :::Sighs::: Oh well...

As time goes on, I find that I actually enjoy the episodes with Ayame best. :p

I've also found a site with translations of the entire manga series...but I don't think I can share it here...owl me if you need it, I guess.

Five books of the manga are out now! (Woo!) According to a label on the front cover of #5, it's the best-selling shojo manga in America. :)

And I discovered some time ago that my boxed DVD set is pirateware; :scared: Who the heck knew?

I half wish I could forget all about the series and watch it with fresh eyes....I've been terribly in the mood to rewatch, but I know I have half the dialog memorized by now...

"You're a devil, woman! Everything you do is just EVIL!!!" Love that line...

Tsk, tsk, Inky, pirateware. I have a friend who's anime collection is mostly pirated, but it's legal as long as it hasn't been leased in the states. However, Fruits Basket is, but if you bought it like that you can't do much about it.

I love the series. Kyou is my favorite. He's just so bent on beating Yuki it's funny.

But what's up the the ending? I know the anime film makers decided to finish off the anime before the manga was finished, but it really doesn't make much sense. I suppose it's one reason to finish reading the manga.

I love Fruits Basket too! I sure hope the rumours are true, and they are making a second series of the anime.....

They are releasing a boxed set of the Anime released on November 9th, I've heard you can also get the empty box (which I wanna get)

But, anyways. As you can tell, I am also an avid Fruits Basket fan.

Well, I don't think it's true about a second season, sadly. But having seen some of the Japanese mangas and having read translations, it's interesting how many little 'flashback' images in the anime are about things that are important later, and are explored more fully in the manga. For example, I have a Hana To Yume magazine (where Fruits Basket is originally published) from early 2004, and though I can't read it, it's about young Yuki and how he was forced by his parents to live with Akito (who was psychotic even as a child) including how Yuki asked Ayame for help, and first met Kyo.

Other images which seem to have nothing to do with the anime are explained--for instance, in the anime, there is once a flashback image of young Kyo holding a hat. It's from a memory that comes back to him later, of meeting Tohru when they were both little. And that whole "You don't remember?" thing about why Kagura loves Kyo is explained later, too.

I doubt they could REALLY make a Series II as good as the first. For one thing, even if they could get the same voice actors, some of their voices will have changed by now. The girls who voiced Tohru, both in the Japanese and English versions, are no longer teenagers, for one thing.

I really liked Fruits Basket. At first it seems like a regular shojo anime, but then Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure turn into animals and the whole story of the Zodiac curse comes into play.
I cryed a little towards the end of the series, those last few episodes are sad.
I have all the DVD's (legally) and hopefully I can get the empty box to put them in.
I think my favorite character is...(what a hard decision) Hatsu Haru, the Ox-san.

Couldn't resist watching it through again (must be the 15th time by now) and I still cried at about five or six episodes. :D

Woodman's actually had soba noodles this week! :D Their international aisle is awesome...

Has anyone else tried any of the food from the series? :) I've made riceballs (not having much luck molding them by hand, I bought an onigiri mold to do it with) and even bought sheets of nori seaweed, though I didn't have the nerve to eat the riceball I put it on....it's just not a smell I can connect with something edible. I've also tried miso soup, and leeks in various recipes. :D Never seen pickled plums (umebochi) for sale anywhere I shop, and I sort of suspect I wouldn't like them much, anyway.

And, of course, I've always liked eating with chopsticks, ever since I was a kid. :D

They are pretty much just a lump of rice with a filling....apparently, they're the Japanese equivalent of a sandwich. But they can be pretty tasty if you add some spices to the rice.

Yesterday I came across potstickers at the grocery store, so I guess I'll be trying something new from the series again. :)

potstickers are yummy (we call them gyoza). I tried to make them myself, but I only used the way to fry them or something. But a friend made them for me (same kind) and he boiled them, THEN pan fried them. WAY better. he also made this sauce with soy sauce and sugar and something else (I tried to make the sauce myself, but it tasted nasty :( Good luck with your potstickers tho.

I have seen it often at Barnes and Nobles, but I have only flipped through it to see if I liked the look of it. I like to sit on the floor and read manga. Why? Because 1.) I am poor 2.) I am a bum and 3.) I used to work right next to Barnes and Nobles and would go there on my lunch break or when I got off of work! The people who work there get mad because I block the rows and I rarely buy anything. I haven't actually "read" from what it sounds like from you guys it's good. Maybe the next time I go that will be the one I read. :runs off to schedule manga appointment:

We get more of the backstory of Akito and Yuki, and find out why it's so important for Kyo to beat Yuki at something.

We find out about Hatsuharu's secret romance.

Well, I don't want to spoil the series for people who haven't read it yet, but further back in this thread you can read my spoiler synopsis of Book 11 which has the Kyo/Akito information.

As for the other parts of what you asked:

Hatsuharu and Isuzu are in love, but for obvious reasons keep it hidden. Isuzu has pretty much broken it off because she doesn't want Haru to get hurt. She's trying to find a way to break the curse.

Re Akito/Yuki: Yuki's parents are in the rare position of having not one but two Zodiac members in their family. Parents of Zodiac members are given an income from the family, so Yuki's parents hit the jackpot. Yuki's mom wants nothing more than for Yuki to take his place as Akito's right-hand man, and is terribly annoyed at Ayame for being the fool of the family (Note: there are hints that this is exactly why he does it!) and furious at Yuki for taking off to Shigure's house and going to this undistinguished school, rather than staying 'home' and sucking up to Akito. She pretty much dumped Yuki off at the main house as a child and went travelling and spending the money she got for having two Zodiac kids, leaving Yuki completely at the mercy of Akito.

It's funny, I had thought in the past that the Yuki Fan Club sort of reminded me of the Sevages. I confess, tis all my fault that Prosp now spends more time reading her Furuba than doing her updates over break :)

I'm just way too... wicked... for bringing the first of the DVDs from my box set and not the others ::evil::. Haha, now you'll just have to get your roomie to let you see the other 3 DVDs, Prosp!!

It's quite funny, as we were watching the first volume, Hati and I were wondering if Prosp would guess who Shigure reminded us both of... even before you find out what animal he is... he's just like Sirius in my head... well, at least Mauraders/Alma Sirius...
I think it was the "high school girls, high school girls!" that did it! ROFL!!

But see, here's the thing... there's a good reason for there to be a Yuki fan club... you Sevages are just scary ;)

OK....I'm now looking for a new Manga to read, and with all the good publicity this one has, I decided to go after Fruit Basket now. I just finished watching over the 95 anime episodes of Rurouni Kenshin (My self Christmas present :p ). I'm re-reading my favorite manga ("Monster") and the Volume 18th of 20th Century Boys (another good manga) will not come up anytime soon...so I need mangas...I need I need.. hehehe.

So, I read your posts Inky, and it seems the manga is coming out in English now. I did some research and it seems that there are going to be 14 books (Volumes) and 9 have been already released...Am I wrong? Is this series completed in Japanese? or there are more Volumes to come after #14? If I like it (Surely I will), then I will get the anime :)

Just checking in as another Fruits Basket fan. Love the animé, and the manga though I've only read one volume of it so far. Yuki and Hatsuhara are my favourite characters, though I have a soft spot for Ayame and Shigure, of course.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, the animé is great. There are a couple of slow episodes near the end, but the big ending itself is fantastic. The series is definitely shoujo, though -- no giant robots attacking Tokyo, so if that's all you're into, you might want to avoid this one :)

Only six have been released in English yet, but they come out every two months. Seven should be out in February. :)

There are probably going to be several more than 14 (though I don't know for certain.) There was a fan site online, before they came out in English, with english translations of the Japanese mangas. (It's not there anymore, don't ask!)

At the time they translated the 13th book, the kids were in their last year of high school, anf about to put on a class play, and Tohru had just decided to break the curse. There are some reasons that she may need to do it before they graduate. (Though it could be interesting if she has to afterward.)

I have a couple of Hana-to-Yume magazines from early 2004, though, and the Fruits Basket sections have little to do with curse-breaking--they were (as far as I could tell, not knowing more than a word or two of Japanese) about Yuki's school adventures, and flashbacks to his childhood.

So, I'd bet on at least another book or two! Book 14 will have to have the class performance and the Yuki flashbacks, I can't think Tohru will be able to finish things off between those! ^_^ Though I'm sure it's winding down toward the end.

I keep checking at the bookstore where I work, and so far we only have a listing for volumes 1-7... perhaps since the anime boxset only goes up to roughly that, they're not going to realase more yet. :upset: Maybe they're waiting for more of the anime to be translated. Poop.

The anime ended at a really weird place, I really hope that more gets translated because there's so much more going on. I have a soft spot for Shigure, Hatsuharu and Ayame... BISHI!!!!

LOL!

If you're looking for some fun shonen manga, check out Negima!... it's about a young boy wizard with glasses who has to go teach at an all girls high-school and hilarity ensues. It's by the creator of 'Love Hina', so there's lots of fan service but it's really pretty cute. It's been called 'Love Hogwarts' because of the similar character but besides the fact that they're both boy wizards with messy hair and glasses, that's all I really see in common. No scar or anything ;) The fourth volume is coming out in early January. Just another suggestion for those seeking something else to keep them occupied until July!

Yay for fellow otaku!

I'm afraid they only made one season of the anime. A lot of people keep hoping they'll go back and do another, but I don't know if they would even be able to. They might not be able to get all the excellent voice talent back, and the teens have grown up a few years by now...

Interesting note: the one who actually made the translation was John Burgmeier, who did the English voice of Shigure. :p No wonder he got all the funniest lines!

It shows release dates of books 8 and 9 coming up for April and June...beyond that, the book numbers are still greyed out...but that's bound to change as the release dates get closer, especially if it remains the best-selling shoujo in the US. :p

I think Amazon's listings are screwed-up, though. I can't find any of the new editions on their site, even though I've bought them all through there! I should ask them about that...I want to pre-order #7, and can't find the listing...

Akito is on the cover of this one.

Is it just me, or are the US covers really, really bland? I thought the art on the anime DVDs was also bland and unappealing. They really need to put some effort into it.

Oh, man. I love Fruits Basket! Kyo is definitely my favorite. I love his hair, his cute little "I don't really care for Honda-san!" moments, his obsession with defeating Yuki...

I really detest Akito now. I felt sort of positively neutral towards him, but now he's on my List. You know, the list of characters you hate. Everyone's got one. He's right up there with Ririna (Relena from Gundam Wing), for crying out loud!

I think my favorite part of Fruits Basket so far (I haven't read/seen all of it yet) is the part when Shigure takes everyone up to the hot springs for "Golden Week" when it's actually to dodge his editor again. Then she goes to his house and finds the note on the door - I just love how the people at the publishing company are trying to tell her that Shigure's just messing with her and to not commit suicide! I crack up every time I read that part.
I also like the part where the Yuki Fan Club tries to get at Tohru through her friends and go to (her friend with the psychic powers that scares everyone - I love her to death, but I'm really bad with names!)'s house, and meet her little brother...that scene is pure genius, I tell you.

ElectraStarr, I love Negima! It's so halarious. I dare anyone to read the dodgeball part without cracking up at least once!
"Love Potter"? That's kind of like what I thought when I first saw it - I swear I went "Oh my god, someone made HP into a manga?!" to myself in the middle of the store. People were staring at me...

- Zoe (who really, really wants a Kyo plushie!)

It shows release dates of books 8 and 9 coming up for April and June...beyond that, the book numbers are still greyed out...but that's bound to change as the release dates get closer, especially if it remains the best-selling shoujo in the US.

I think Amazon's listings are screwed-up, though. I can't find any of the new editions on their site, even though I've bought them all through there! I should ask them about that...I want to pre-order #7, and can't find the listing...

Is it just me, or are the US covers really, really bland? I thought the art on the anime DVDs was also bland and unappealing. They really need to put some effort into it.

I went digging a bit and did find the dates for 7 & 8 at work :doh!: Amazon is screwed up, I've never been able to find the correct listings to add to my wishlists... even with the ISBN numbers. Weird..

Also weird is that the Borders/Waldens collectors box w/ vol 6 in it only fits volumes 1-7. It does have a dvd with the first two eppies in it, but not worth the 27 bucks to have a box that only fits half the series.

And yes, the US cover art is very lacking in the design department. It seems to be a trend, the Japanese verisons have better printing and paper quality as well. If anyone has seen the Japanese versions of xxxHolic, it is so GORGEOUS in comparison to the US versions. The picture is the same, but the quality is so much better and the edges are even dyed different colors (kind of like a gilded book would be)! I'm tempted to buy them just because they're so beautiful! TokyoPop needs to get their act together!

I LOVE Hanajima!! She's such a great character, I'd love to cosplay as her one day in the outfit she wears to Honda Kyouko's grave. It's such a cool EGL!

The 'Anime Insider' Magazine did HP in one of their 'What if it were Anime?' sections and I was like 'I would totally watch that!' (not to mention the LOTR version... Bishie Legolas=drool!) The fourth volume of Negima! just came out and I only have two words for you.... field trip! LOL!

Go to the extras menus, then select 10, and you can hear a recording of the voice actors flubbing their lines. :p

Yey! Fruits Basket! I have yet to finish watching the 26 episodes. My friends have loved it for years, but it's only now that I was able to get a copy and watch it. What happened to me? :rotfl:

Excellent, in my opinion. :) I'm just starting to read the mangas, now, and the animes are pretty true to the oiginal. They have a bit less detail, of course, and the stories are slightly re-ordered, and they added quite a bit to the final episodes to make it a huge climax which involved all the characters. But it works well. :p

The funny thing is, in one of those interviews on the DVDs, I could have sworn that the director claimed he didn't reference the mangas at all for character design. That must have been translated wrong, because it's ridiculous...not only are all the characters quite recognizable, but a lot of the scenes from the anime are just redrawn, colored images direct from the manga.

I must chime in and say that this is about the most charming story I've ever heard tell of. Strictly speaking, I'm not a full-fledged fan, but I'm sure I would be if I ever got my hands on the DVDs or mangas. I once did a blitz search for Furuba, and saw a fair few scans/screenshots and read summaries of all the different episodes. And inevitably, in doing so I fell in love with the story and characters. I've promised myself to watch/read it some time before 2020.

There's a great Fruits Basket group on Yahoo that I check occasionally to keep up-to-date on the story as it's released overseas. I think it's on chapter 103 or 104 now. It's a delightful and compelling yarn, even for those of us who keep an eye on it from a distance. ^_^

Well, you haven't corrupted me Inky. I had Fruits Basket on my "I will read later" list. This thread just made it quick to happen. I'm starting to read Volume 6, and I am reading it slowly with the dreaded thought that I will not have Volume 7 until is released....I loved this manga since the first Volume. Like you, my favorite character so far is Shigure, so calmed and mysterious.

I think Momiji has so far the best lines of the story. I like that kid even though he is starting to be a bit too much androgynous for my taste. Yuki has great personality too.

Pirateware = :no:

It's sad that the producers didn't finish Furuba's anime version. I was looking forward to seeing in action the Juunishi's rooster, but he didn't make it to the animation. As well as the horse...

My friends told me the producers and the author didn't come to terms with the production of the later mangas, so the animation was stopped. They left us hanging! :upset:

I think Kyou's the best, but I also like Shigure (a little perverted, yet nice "Oh, high school girls!" :rotfl: ). I'm planning to cosplay Kyou in one of the costume conventions this year. My friends will also take part, we have the perfect Hana-chan and Tohru-kun. Some will cosplay their own Juunishi's, depending on what year they were born. I think this will be great!

LOL, I'm sure you've corrupted someone out there! Otherwise, since you now have your copy of the real boxed set, here's ElectraStarr's easy steps to corrupting your friends!

Step 1: Talk about how great Furuba is to your friends, both otaku and non-otaku alike. Ignore the 'but they're eyes are so big' comments for the time being.

Step 2: Mention how the zodiac is involved and how family members change. Throw in how the Yuki fan club reminds you of crazy Snape lovers ;). Cross-fandom references help!

Step 3: Show anyone of the female persuasion a picture of Kyo in cat form. Prepare for awes.

Step 4: When said friends finally tell you they really want to see this, forget the DVD at someone elses house. ANTICIPATION!!! (Right, Prosp? :D) Make them watch other anime instead to further the desire.

Step 5: When you finally do bring over the dvds... only bring over volume 1, thereby making your friends crazygonutsmad to see the rest, driving them to buy it themselves or go buy their own 'backwards' manga books.

So there you go... that's how I did it, now everyone can do it too! LOL! Then mention how hot Hatsuharu is and how cute Momiji is and pretty soon, they'll be in the palm of your hand and you can mold them into otaku clones of yourself!! ::insert evil laugh here::

Teehee... somehow, I'm just really good at the whole converting the world thing... having an addictive personality helps too. It's how I got Prosp addicted to Inu-Yasha mid series, which we all know is a hard place to catch on.

But, then again, if they're here on the forums... they're geeks already and it's really just a slight push to another fandom :)

You are now an official Furuba recruita! Huzzah!

I'm planning to cosplay Kyou in one of the costume conventions this year. My friends will also take part, we have the perfect Hana-chan and Tohru-kun.
Which con? See, that's the other part of conversion... showing your friends your awesome cosplay prowess and telling them how much fun all night DDR is at the cons!

The Easter egg on Disc 3 is even better than Disc 1. It has more flubbed lines, and a couple of the actors reading for the parts, but it also has the English version of the Serenade song, so you can actually hear what the words are!

I'm very pleased about that, because I tried to find the English lyrics online, and had no luck at all. :)

Heh...maybe you ought to see if you can get the DVDs through your library. That's where I first saw them.

(Key 'Memory' theme...)

I was appointed as the video buyer for my library, and I knew anime was popular, but hadn't seen any yet, so I didn't know what to buy. I got Princess Mononoke (which was awesome) and then started searching the library system for other anime I could watch and consider. Fruits Basket just happened to come up in the catalog, and I got Disc 2 first. (Disc 1 was the last I got, but it still made enough sense to go on with.)

Then I got it for my library, and it just pretty much sat on the shelf for a month or two. (Curse that bland cover art!) Once the popularity began picking up, it was never on the shelf any more. When I heard that the boxed set was available, I e-mailed the directors of the library system hinting that it was their turn to take a share of filling the Furuba demand. Well, ONE more library got it, and another said it would be on their list for next year, but that their young-adult budget was shot for the year. :p

Anyway, I guess my point is that more and more libraries are getting it...and if nobody in your library system owns it, you should ask your librarian to try to get it. :)

Actually, I usually hate goody-goody main characters, but I find Tohru lovable and funny. Maybe it's because she's so incredibly unselfish and understanding...maybe because she's SO FUNNY when she's freaking out over something. But I know what to do about this.... way back in the dark ages, when they had no Tamora Pierce, I put a slip of paper with a request for it in the box every time I was in the library. (bragging) We have InuYasha 1-17, among other mangas. We've been getting the new Fruits Basket ones regularly as well--I've been squeezing them into the movie budget, rather than asking and hoping the YA-buyer would see eye to eye with me about getting each and every issue the moment it's released.

Our Anime Afternoon last week (did I mention? 4 hours of anime showing! :p ) was sort of snowed-out. But the few people who did show up had a blast. We watched the episode where Ayame first appeared, and the Valentine's Day episode, as well as bits of Ranma, Wolf's Rain, His and Her Circumstances, Azumanga Daioh, etc.

Because of the weather last week, we're redoing it again today! This time, though, we're spending the first half on kid's programming. (Hamtaro, Sailor Moon, Yu-gi-oh, a couple of kid-friendly Galaxy Angel episodes, Pokemon...) That leaves only two hours for the teen programming, and we have so many cool choices that I'm not sure Furuba will make it on the screen this week.

Okay!

Tohru means to get through.

Kyo has many meanings, but by looking at the definition of the kanji figure used to spell his name in the manga, it means 'both' or 'together.' Each of which could certainly have meaning related to the story!

Kisa isn't in the dictionary, but Kisaku means 'friendly, outgoing.'

Hiro means fatigue. :p

Of course, I haven't studied Japanese all that carefully, and I may be making errors. I'll see if I can add more when i have more time.

I've always liked Uo-Chan, which we see more of why she's like she is in volume 7. Maybe I like her because she is so unlike me in every way possible.

Does anyone else think that Kyoko changed like she did because she had a family?

For some reason, I've always had a peculiar fondness for that Motoko Minagawa storyline...probably it reminds me of the confusion and passion and despair and general screwed-upness of youth. :) Apart from being hysterical in parts.

April IS going to be a long wait... it seems we are always constantly waiting for something, no matter what your 'geekness' is! :) Thankfully, the local anime convention is the first week of May, so it's double the anticipation for me! LOL... Not to mention months filled with sewing and reminding Prosperine that she should forget graduation and come with me... ::evil laugh::

Anyhoo, I loved the story about Uo-chan in vol 7. Such a dramatic change... it's no wonder the Yuki-fan club is weary of her, she's definately not all talk, that's for sure.

I would like to see more about how the two of them became friends with Hana-chan... it seems that Tohru seems to attract the misfits to her side! :)

I just got Fruits Basket #1 yesterday...

Don't get me wrong...I have read them all... I just have to check them out at the library! GRRR!! The Library doesn't have #7!

I like the Tiger (Kisa???)

My friend won't read it because (and I quote in a high-pitched mocking voice):
'I opened it up and it had too much swearing in it!'
Jeez, GET A LIFE, FURUBA IS THE BEST!!

Yep. Kisa's the tiger.

And Mireille, I think you are in the right track. Tohru is definitely made to change things from bad to good, and from good to too good :D

Yay! A fruits basket thread. I actually fell in love with this manga right before Christmas. I got 1 from my friend, then 2 though 6 from my family. I bought 7 a few days after it came out. I can't wait for 8! So far, who is everyone's favorite character? I love Hatori. Yuki and Kyo are both great in their own ways.

I'm very sorry to say that I haven;t see the anime yet. Does anyone know if it's available for rental anywhere?

I love Fruits Basket! It was the first anime I watched (aside from Sailor Moon). I didn't know they had a manga for it...gotta get it then! My favorite charactor is the guy w/black and white hair! Don't know his name though, I'm terrible at remembering the names of anime characters. I like Shigure too, his brother is very weird though. Is anyone else at least a little annoyed with Tohru for being sickly sweet? for some reason she really bugs me, she's way too nice. Kyoh (did i spell that right?) is awesome too, he's really cool! I've only seen about 15 episodes, but so far I mostly feel sorry for Akito. What happened that made him that way anyway? I think he's the Snape of Fruits Basket, although much, much more cruel!
