Kreacher: love or hate

I did do a search so before anybody tells me ther's a thread like this already...

Anyway. Most people all seem to either love (why?!) or hate (that's better!)Kreacher. Although his mutterings are quite funny, I personally hate him - I hold him responsible for the deth of my beloved Sirius.

So in this thread, all you need to do is put one word, either 'love' or 'hate' and at the end i'll count them all up and find the love:hate ratio of Kreacher.

Kreacher was cute with his muttering (the part about the twins was particularly funny), but when I found out that he was a little turncoat and not being loyal to Sirius, I wanted to chase after him with my dad's chef knife. He should be boiled in acid, he should.

Although Kreacher may be a pest, he is loyal to Mother Black and adds a bit of humor to a dark book.

His constant muttering makes for comedy relief, and in my opinion, brightens up a dark Grimmauld Place.

I think if Harry gets Sirius's estate he will be a little mean to Krecher because he will blame Krecher for Sirius's death. After all if Sirius told Harry that he was safe at home Harry would never have gone to rescue Sirius at the Department of Ministries and Sirius would never have gone to rescue him and died in the process. Ofcourse Krecher had no way Sirius would die but still Harry will blame him. I hope he does be mean to Krecher because Krecher is annoying ofcourse Hermione will say something about that. But Harry will get mad at her and say it is Krecher's fault that Sirius is dead and he was disroyal. Harry never felt bad or an house elf except for Dobly. They will probably have a big fight over this and make up later.

I loath Kreacher. I really feel that he added to Sirius's downfall. At first there was some pity but by the end of the book I wanted his head on the wall.

I neither love nor hate Kreacher (yes, his name does sound excactly like creature :lol: ). Yes, he is responsable to Sirius' death and its consequenses, but really, he couldn't have acted differently. His mind has been poisoned by Sirius' parents, maybe even his grandparents, do we know for how long house elves can live? Remember him going on calling the Weasleys blood traitors and Hermione mud blood, though neither were really nice things to say, but that was how he had been raised in that pure-bloodist house. And he felt more loyal to Narcissa than to Sirius, though Narcissa didn't live at 12 Grimmauld Place, while Sirius did, when she was more alike her uncle and aunt, the ones Kreacher really had been loyal in this world, than what Sirius was alike his parents. You can pity him too. As Dumbledore said, he is what he is made by wizards.

I think Kreacher is too complex a character to lump my feelings towards him into either love or hate. I really feel that Kreacher is a product of his environment and because of that I feel really sorry for him. However,I do have very strong feelings against him because of Sirius but I don't completely dislike him yet because i'm not convinced that Sirius is really gone or isn't coming back. And as someone else said Sirius wasn't very nice towards him either.

Yeah i dont hate him either despite most who dislike his behavior. He certainly is a grumpy old house elf. But I'm going to have to disagree with above. Kreacher was very very loyal to Mrs. Black, thus why he liked to talk/listen endlessly to her portrait after she died. It was Sirius who Kreacher had no loyalty to. He is bound to Sirius by Sirius's Blacks pureblood line but in the book, kreacher respects only Narcissa Black. It doesn't say anything about Bellatrix either (Kreacher respecting her was not in there). Note too that Sirius Black says the same thing about Bellatrix. The word "her" refering to Bellatrix only meant her.
There is a lot to Kreacher than meets the eye, and I'm gonna have to go with Hermione here. Not Harry or Sirius.
Granted, he didn't betray the OotP, but only Sirius himself. This shows a lot of reasons why.

I think it's pretty clear that most people hate Kreacher. I don't like to use hate because it's such a strong word - but I really disliked him. But I really dislike house elves in general, I think they're creepy. So, I dislike him b/c of he lied to Harry, and because he's a creepy house elf.

Well, I dislike him for instigating Sirius' death. But I just don't know how much fault we can blame on him for doing what he did. He was bourne into this mindset that anything but an all-encompassing pureblood sentiment is defamatory to the magical world. So, he's got the immediate prejudice to halfbloods, mudbloods, muggle-loving folks, etc. I mean, that's how he was taught under the Black household, wasn't he? And since Sirius hated the pureblood partiality within his family, I doubt Kreacher had any preconception that he was betraying Sirius by feeding the Malfoys some confidential info. He probably thought it would have made the late Blacks proud of him for doing it.

Anyway, my point is, Kreacher was old, was "conditioned" to hate the people his deceased masters would certainly hate, confused, didn't think about the repercussions of his action, etc. He's misunderstood really and the fact that the Order was indifferent about him was probably the last straw so he turned himself against them. Regardless, given there's only two options to choose from (either love or hate), yeah, I hate the fellah.

I really dislike Kreacher. In fact I sort of dislike house elves in general. Dobby is pretty cool but Winky just annoys me and Kreacher make me feel the way this dog did that belonged to one of our family friends. It was a ratty old scottish terrier with no teeth who was just a pain in the butt and wasn't nice to anyone. I'm against cruelty to animals but even members of Peta would have loved to kick this thing... that's how I feel about Kreacher. (I guess Hermione would be mad at me for saying this.) I think he needs to be promptly removed from Sirius's house, maybe not dismissed with clothes because then he can spill secrets, but he's too close and he's not to be trusted. I hated Kreacher. Most other house-elves are treated horribly and still are completely loyal to their masters, and Kreacher was not loyal to Sirius. It is true that Sirius was basically banished from the family, but Kreacher was bound to him so he didn't exactly act as the house elves should. He also tricked Harry into going after Sirius.

When I stated reading the fifth book, I immediately thought Kreacher was going to be a character which I was going to love to hate. I used to laugh when he gave those under-the-breath insults. I even felt a little sorry for him, because I thought he was a little disstressed, crazy.

But after what he did to Black, I just cannot feel pity for him anymore. I dispise that character. I really dislike him. Because of him Black isn't alive anymore, and even though now I clearly know he is crazy, I don't like him anymore. I re-read those insults and all I got was frustrated. Kreacher, as said before, is the way he is because his owners 'made' him become that way. He was stuck inside that house for years with only Mrs. Blacks painting as company. And even before that, he was brainwashed to belive that his duty, the goal of his life, is to serve and honor those that in his masters eyes, are worthy.

If you're going to condemn Kreacher for betraying Sirius, you might as well condemn Dobby for betraying Lucius. Both house elves had betrayed their masters, who had mistreated them.

i really dislike Kreature. he's evil and not just mad. i'm sure he's had a horrible life, but i've seen no evidence of any kind of heart in him. i don't believe he's brainwashed. dobby turned out fine, didn't he? like any person, a house elf has a choice to do good or evil. i'm sorry, but having an unhappy life doesn't make up for, or account for, all of his vindictive behavior, IMO.

strangely enough, though, i really have quite a soft spot for LOTR's Gollum. he used to be my favourite character (i blame the ROTK movie for making me resent him!), and i still like him. unlike Kreature, there's a lot of evidence that there's some goodness in him, and in the book it rises, almost to the surface, many times.
you just don't see that with Kreature! he has no redeeming qualities whatsoever; and he's not as interesting a character as Gollum either.

now, i do not condone Sirius' behavior towards Kreature at all. i understand Sirius' motives and i sympathize with him - i love Sirius! - but he acted badly towards Kreature. normally he was a moral guy, and i believe he truly believed what he told The Trio about judging a man based on "how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." Kreature was a special case for him, and it made him forget his morals. he ended up acting in a very hypocritical fashion, although that was never his intent. living with that horrible little house elf he'd loathed from childhood....how would we react?

How can anyone like Kreacher? He is vile. I suppose it is interesting to have an house elf that isn't a crawling, goodie goodie, but then again he is in way because he is so stuck on his 'mistress' (Sirius' mother)

I know he had a hard time being by himself with just the portrait, and yes, Sirius should have been nicer to him, but.... I really do not care. His mutterings annoyed me, and his actions helped lead to Sirius's death. So, no I do not like him. I really hope he just dies by book 6.
