Damien Rice. An excellent artist I absolutely love. I found out about him when I went to Ireland and England for Thanksgiving, and my Uncle was playing his CD. Who else likes him, and wha'ts your favorite song by him?
He is coming here to Chicagoland in April and I am dying to get tickets to see him live, because every song he has is a masterpiece. And he has such passion in his songs. If I had to pick, my favorite would be Cheers Darlin' or Cold Water. Even though Cold Water is rather repetative I love it.
Go check out his lyrics on a site, or his personal site. Go buy his acclaimed CD "O" GO NOW! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

I enjoy his music when the mood takes me. Only now getting some acclaim after his debut and only album O became so popular in his native Ireland. He's had some comparison to David Gray, but he has more of the male version of Tori Amos about him, or the acoustic moments of Radiohead, with his angst and contrast between dramtic minor chords and the gentle folk. He is still growing as a musician, where i feel his best moments came in the dramatic rocking tracks in the second half of the album where he experimented more. His gentle moments can be lovely though.
Not as deep as i want of music sometimes, but its well worth having :tu: I saw him live once as a solo support act, and chatted with him afterwards. He's a nice fellow.
I'll put up a stream from a live preformance at a radio station by him at the bottom here. There's an interview in it too. Just so people have an idea of what he is like if they are interested:

I sadly only heard a couple of his songs, but am hooked. I'm waiting to get some money to go buy his CD next time I run to the music store. He's an excellent artist. :)

i was going to post a new thread about him but seeing as there is already one, i can speak about him here.
My brother kept on bugging me about listening to him. As i'm into bands like Coldplay and Oasis, he said that i should check him out. So i did and i love his music. The television videos esoecially of Volacno is brilliant.
O is a extrodinary album and my favourite songs on it are I remember and The Blower's Daughter.
I know this thread is about 2 months old but anyone who reads should check him out, if you are into indie, soft rock music!

I only heard a couple of his songs, when he was in Oz. I was going to go and see him live but it sold out on me....I do desperately want his album for Christmas though...

I adore Damien Rice. "O" is full of beautiful music. When I first heard him, I thought Jeff Buckley had secretly had a child with a beautiful Irish singing lady.
I like to think of Damien Rice's quality as somewhat ethereal. And he works very closely with the band that plays with him; I read one review that said the name Damien Rice should be though of as a band name, like Travis, rather than as a solo artist. I don't know about that, but I'd love to see him perform live sometime. Especially that song "Cold Water"; it got me through some rough waters in my own life.

The Blower's Daughter made me cry when I watched Closer. It's so sad and poetic. The tone is also great, Rice's voice makes it seem even more heartbreaking.
