View Full Version : If you were given a Hogwarts teaching post...

Which subject would you like to teach? (DADA aside)

Cindy
January 27th, 2004, 3:35 pm
Hmm.. I would like to teach Charms because by the looks of it, Charms is a fun subject and would definitely be my favourite subject if I'm a student in Hogwarts. :agree:

AllanTheGreat
January 27th, 2004, 4:49 pm
I would like to teach Charms too because it's a lot of fun and I like spells and incantations. To make a long story short I like silly wand-waving, as Snape described it :p

I would also like to teach Transfiguration because it's like and art, transforming one thing into another, its just fantastic. And Tranfiguration requires wand work and intelligence too.

If I were a student at Hogwarts, those would be my two favorite subjects too.

Rose Hunter
January 27th, 2004, 4:57 pm
:)

Okay. Besides Defense Against the Dark Arts.

I'd say Potions. It's one of my favourite subjects.

My third choice, even though my third favourite class is Transfiguration (I really wouldn't want to teach it), would be to teach a Flying class.

January 27th, 2004, 6:44 pm
History of Magic, no two ways about it. It sounds like it has the potential to be such an interesting class if only Professor Binns were out of the way --perhaps even a potentially life-changing one. I would teach it in reverse chronological order, starting with the first war against Voldemort and looking at how and why he won people over to his side. Hopefully, some of the students would end up with the critical thinking skills they need to see through his propaganda this time around...

But Herbology or Care of Magical Creatures might be fun, too.

January 27th, 2004, 7:59 pm
Since I really don't know what ancient ruins or arithmancy actually involve, I would have to say:

Charms~ It seems like the most fun because you get to do a lot of "practical" work.

Divination might be fun, too. I think it would be great to pretend to make predictions. I wonder how long it would take the class to realize I was a total fraud. :eyebrows:

Griffyn
January 27th, 2004, 8:44 pm
Hagrid'd cool with his environmental classes but mine would be the physic class thingy. You know with the crystal ball and tea leaves. :tu: But with with potions :upset: that gets me losted.

Astronomy all the way (hence the username).

January 27th, 2004, 11:00 pm
I enjoy animals so id proabably think it be cool to teach Care of Magical Creatures, of course i also like History so i wouldnt mind teaching that either, it could be fun and intresting, but due to Binns it isnt

Catgirl
January 27th, 2004, 11:39 pm
Divintion. I'm really interested in fourtune telling. I have my own crystal ball. Also, I'm sure I could do a better job than Trelawney.

SUPERxSADIST
January 27th, 2004, 11:43 pm
Id teach care of magical creatures because i really like animals and i think it would be neat, however id probablly stick to smaller ones .....

Azura's_Heir
January 27th, 2004, 11:59 pm
I think that I would like to teach Potions or Muggle Studies. Though I might also like Ancient Runes.

Ashkins
January 28th, 2004, 2:48 am
I would want to teach Ancient Runes or Charms. Maybe Astronomy.

strwznbrry
January 28th, 2004, 2:53 am
I would want to teach Herbology. Just because I would get to grow cool plants and stuff.
I also think it would be fun to teach charms. That always seems like an interesting class.

Violet Tonks
January 28th, 2004, 3:18 pm
Divination. The only class that I currently know something about.

Ford Anglia
January 28th, 2004, 4:07 pm
Well, I'm sure I'd do a better job at History of Magic than Binns, once I learned some of it. My first choice would be arithmancy.

ginnybatbogeysyou
January 28th, 2004, 4:35 pm
I'd love Charms, but I'm sure I could also spice History of Magic up a bit.

Flobberworm
January 28th, 2004, 5:27 pm
If I c ould teach a subject at Hogwarts, I would probably want to teach Charms. There are so many different spells to learn and it seems to be one of the most useful Hogwarts subjects. Transfiguration would be fun too :).

Padfoot127
January 28th, 2004, 5:34 pm
I know this really isn't a teaching position, but I'd have to say I'd like to be the librarian! :D I love libraries and old ancient books, and it's sort of a career I'd like to take up in real life.
But if I had to take a REAL teaching position, I'd probably take ancient runes or arithmancy or potions. They seem like the job isn't as involved and don't need a lot of physical attention... since I'm a pretty lazy person. I don't think I'd be able to be a Care of Magical Creatures or Herbology teacher, even though they're really interesting, just because I don't think I'd be up to the responsibility. :D

eruriel
January 28th, 2004, 10:06 pm
Either Astronomy, cause I'm very interested in space, or (what's the name for it) Arithmancy?, cause I'm quite good at math.

persian85033
January 29th, 2004, 12:27 am
I'd teach Potions, with Care of Magical Creatures as my second choice, because I love animals, and Herbology as my third choice.

Jonny Boy
January 29th, 2004, 1:34 am
Transfiguration, charms, care of magical creatures or flying instructor/quidditch ref.

ParselTongue
January 29th, 2004, 4:06 am
Charms, there so useful and cool i think it would be blast.

Mad Macca
January 29th, 2004, 8:51 am
Oooh I'd love to be Charms teacher! I'm a practical liking person, so I'd like a subject where it isn't just books books books! Otherwise I'd find Care of Magical Creatures good, I love animals.

Malfoy'sMistress26
January 30th, 2004, 1:24 am
Maybe History of Magic or Divination because I think that both subjects would be interesting. But I would have fun teaching Care of Magical Creatures because I love animals.

Oh, it's so hard to choose just one.

Moontrimmer
January 30th, 2004, 3:23 am
I would teach care of Magical Creatures, and would make it as interesting as Hagrid makes it (Thestrals, hippogriffs). Though nothing deadly or illegal like chimaeras.

Picko
January 30th, 2004, 5:08 am
I think Charms would probably be a lot of fun judging on what we've seen in the books. I also wouldn't mind having a go at Transfiguratoin.

sykosis17
January 30th, 2004, 9:09 am
I definitely wouldn't mind teaching transfiguration. It sound pretty cool.

hermione_fan
February 10th, 2004, 5:28 am
Definently charms! It seems less complex than the other classes. It's also my favorite.;)

dumbleedore
February 10th, 2004, 10:39 am
Probably History of Magic. Cept I'd be sleeping alongside the students cause I'd be too lazy

Nah- I'd teach something like Muggle Studies- practical, sensible and has the makings of being a fun class.

Liselle
February 10th, 2004, 10:41 am
potions!!!...although Charms would be fun!

Niffler_8882
February 10th, 2004, 1:51 pm
Definitly a charms teacher...that would be so cool...charms seems like so much fun

Tirwen Lupin
March 28th, 2004, 10:58 pm
I'd probably pick Charms--they seem fun (and simple enough! )
But also, I might want to teach History of Magic. Though it's been given a bad wrap because of Binns, I think it could be made really interesting. I actually like history quite well, and magical history would be even more interesting.

HarryPotter
March 28th, 2004, 11:12 pm
Besides of DADA, I'd pick Charms or Flying Lessons...

Auror Williamson
March 28th, 2004, 11:33 pm
I would want to teach History of Magic or Charms.

I'm a history buff, and Magical history sounds even more fascinating to me.

Charms seems to be simple, yet interesting.

MistressOfMagic
March 29th, 2004, 12:08 am
Defense against the dark arts sounds like it could be fun. Divination sounds interesting as well. I like all the dark, mysterious stuff.

Nick
March 29th, 2004, 2:19 am
DADA.

I would hire three Sorcerers of Steel and every lesson students would have to battle with them based on a theme spell.

Jinxie Cat
March 29th, 2004, 5:33 am
From the sound of it, a lot of the classes at Hogwarts sound fun! My top choice would be Charms. Transfiguration would be really cool too and Care of Magical Creatures also. I suppose anything would be fine except for Arithmancy and History of Magic. :p

Pegasus
March 29th, 2004, 5:41 am
Hmm...Is there an equivalent for music or English? I'm terrible at chemistry, I don't like dirt, I'm not much for animals, I'm no good at history, I'm fascinated with astronomy but I struggled like crazy with the basic college course...

skypher
March 29th, 2004, 11:55 am
Besides DADA it would be one of three choices:
1. Care of Magical Creatures (i love animals)
2. Ancient Runes (i study languages, mainly Egyptian Heiroglyphics)
3. Potions (i was good at practical science in skool)

Puffskein
March 29th, 2004, 12:11 pm
I'm a biologist so I'd have to say Care of Magical Creatures or Herbology. But I'd like to be the librarian too!

Charmed
March 30th, 2004, 1:39 am
Care of Magical Creatures-because I love animals.

Lupin_Lady
March 30th, 2004, 1:42 am
Charms. I'm a stickler for details.
I also thought of Potions, but I hate fire and bad smells, I don't like animals, so that rules out Care of Magical Creatures.
DADA would be cool too, but I think I'd prefer charms.

Chartreuse
March 31st, 2004, 2:34 pm
Maybe Divination, I find it interesting and even if I don't believe much in astrology, it's not too bad to look to the stars.. Or if not, Muggle Studies... you could learn much about yourself the wizarding way.

Harriet
March 31st, 2004, 3:02 pm
Charms, it's a really interesting subject & involves doing magic directly, which I love.

Dru Malfoy
March 31st, 2004, 3:50 pm
I'd go for Ancient Runes or Arithmancy. Seems quite logical and structured. Or History of Magic - I always liked History.

Transfiguration would be cool too and probably less work (for the teacher :D ) because the students have to practice more then study. :D

UselessCharmMaster
May 5th, 2004, 6:17 pm
Something difficult, but useful. And I would be a nasty teacher. :p (Actually, I AM a nasty teacher :D)

Godrics_Heiress
May 5th, 2004, 8:34 pm
I'd be a librarian. I love being surrounded with books. Libraries make me feel at home, especially when I'm only there to read novels and not study.

Dagmar
May 5th, 2004, 8:58 pm
I'd probably teach ethics of magic. Or something to that effect. I'd try and bribe students to do things with chocolate. And then I'd sit at the head of the class eating chocolate to temp them.
( any thing that I can do to eat chocolate :eyebrows: )

FirefightingMuggle
May 5th, 2004, 10:00 pm
Astronomy would be fun to teach just because it take place at night. How cool would it be to teach the one and only midnight class? I would love it.

Charms would be my second choice. That class just seems like so much fun.

Pumpkin Juice
May 5th, 2004, 10:19 pm
I don't understand why you would not include DADA as a choice. That implies everyone would want to teach it. Not so, I wouldn't. Personally, I'd love to teach Transfiguration. :) I'd be an animagi too. ;)

Padfoot11
May 5th, 2004, 10:20 pm
Well there seems to be lot of Charms Professors here already so I'm going to go with Transfiguration, it sounds interesting and fun not to mention the fact I'd want to be good enough to become an animagus:)

Nys
May 6th, 2004, 12:52 am
I think I'd like to be the flying teacher, and be in charge of the Quidditch like Madam Hooch.

HagridsHouseElf
May 6th, 2004, 1:08 am
I would teach Muggle Studies to reveal how mad we really are!

koli
May 6th, 2004, 4:00 am
I'd probably be okay at Charms.

padfootgrim
May 6th, 2004, 4:52 am
potions master... or potions mistress.. muahhahah

Lil Red Head
May 6th, 2004, 5:15 am
I wonder what my natural talent inclination would be? I doubt I'd even be interested in DADA, so that's ok that it's not a choice. :)

I'd probably be a decent charms teacher, although it might be a bit too specific for me. Herbology might be good for me - I already like to find natural remedies.

Divination, astronomy, and runes would also be cool to teach. And the history class might be intersting. I wonder if there's a foreign languages set of classes. I'd love to teach that. Wouldn't it be fun to speak mermish as well as be able to speak to goblins.

It's a hard question as the subjects are so intertwined with the professors in my mind.

elf_owl
May 9th, 2004, 3:43 am
i would teach care of magical creatures cause i love animals:D i'd bring big and small ones, i don't see why everyone freaked out when Hagrig brought in the hippogriffs(becides mafoy getting his arm sliced open...but hey, he deservered it right?) i probibly do the same thing:)
transfiguration would be my second choice

indigoeyes
May 9th, 2004, 8:49 am
Ummmmmm.......probabli transfiguration....then care of magical creaturez....[blast ended skrewts are so cool!!]

Hmm, I think I'd probably like to teach Charms, although being groundskeeper wouldn't be such a bad thing (I'm aware that "groundskeeper" isn't actually a teaching position, but indulge me, please). I really enjoy being out and about, so wandering around the grounds all day is quite an attractive prospect, in my opinion.

Otherwise, Muggle Studies. At least I'd be good at that. :D

Venus_77
May 10th, 2004, 1:43 pm
To save the students from boredom, id say i would teach History of Magic. Modesty aside, i'd say i can make a very interesting History of Magic teacher.

And i would also like to teach Potions, i don't know, i just feel like it... c",)

But my ultimate favorite subject would be charms and i think that i will teach Charms.

But first i want to go to Hogwarts as a student first, i think that its more exciting to be a student than a teacher, would you think?

I'd want to teach Transfiguration. It seems to be very hard, but very interesting. If DADA WAS an option, I'd teach that, of course. Except that it's supposedly jinxed....

Probably Transfiguration.. besides DADA, of course. I just find it interesting.. getting one thing to turn into something completely different.

June 4th, 2004, 3:19 am
I would take almost any Hogwarts job (teaching that is)...my favorites are in order

2. (have to start with two because 1 is DADA) Potions
3. Transfiguration
4. History of Magic
5. Muggle Studies

Da_Chinkster
June 4th, 2004, 3:34 am
Charms, transfiguration or potions

DarkMark27
June 4th, 2004, 5:10 pm
I would want to teach Potions. There are just so many different potions to make...I find it very interesting. I would definately teach my 6th and 7th year students the more difficult and fun types of potions, and I would have them test it on each other (under my supervision of course). One of the most interesting lessons would involve The Veritaserum Potion!

FoxyDoxy
June 4th, 2004, 5:14 pm
DADA they always seem to have fun :-)
hopefully I'd be more of a Lupin than a Lockhart
(though I'm not sure how long I'd last, the curse scares me)

RemusLupinFan
June 4th, 2004, 5:32 pm
Besides DADA, I would like to teach Muggle Studies because I could teach them how to use all of the wonderful technologies we muggles have invented. :p

maz_superstar
June 6th, 2004, 10:17 am
Transfiguration becuase it would be so cool to transform things.
I definatly couldn't teach potions because i think I'd be well rubbish at it as I'm not really good at experiments that involve chemicals.
Charms would be fun though its not my favourite i think i'd get bored with it.
(But I know everyone says this but I'd love to be the DADA teacher)

DracosGirl226
June 6th, 2004, 10:21 am
My first choice would be Defense Against the Dark Arts... I would be the one to keep the job hehehe.
My second choice would be Potions
My third choice would either be Charms or Transfiguration

Rinn Shiryuu
June 6th, 2004, 11:28 am
Charms. I love spells, no matter what. Not that I hate Potions, but I just don't see myself as a potions teacher. And I love charms more n.n

Uhm, Charms or Care of Magical Creatures. It would be hard deciding between this two ones. If I wuld teach CoMC I would snatch a dragon to the lesson somehow, n0n XD

angel65
June 6th, 2004, 12:20 pm
charms and transfiguration

Prometheus
June 6th, 2004, 1:47 pm
OK DADA aside I think charms would be pretty cool as you get to use all different sorts of magic. My second choice would be Care of Magical Creatures as I'm a big animal fan, and it'd be great working in the outdoors.

Magi
June 6th, 2004, 1:55 pm
Definitely Charms. The most significant and useful of all magical arts.

jen15poms
June 6th, 2004, 10:08 pm
I would enjoy teaching Transfiguration. It would be fun to be able to change objects into something else.

HPfan18
June 7th, 2004, 4:55 am
DEFINITELY Charms

jemma_kate
June 7th, 2004, 6:57 am
History of Magic, of course - by far one of the most interesting subjects, and safest - chances are if I was a Potions teacher I'd be killed by idiot children's exploding cauldrons, and I don't think I'd be patient enough to teach Transfiguration or Charms. I couldn't teach Divination in Trelawney's hot, stuffy little classroom because I overheat easily, resulting in me throwing up all over the crystal balls and so forth.

Perhaps Arithmancy might be alright. Sounds like a nice sensible subject.

And I could use slides! :D

crazy_angel04
June 7th, 2004, 1:13 pm
I would love to teach Charms. It would be so cool to make things do whatever I wanted them to do. Charms sounds like a really fun class.

I would also have my eyes on Flying lessons and being the Referee. It would be cool to get to ride on a brrom as your job.

toryvic
June 7th, 2004, 11:30 pm
oooh, I'd love to teach either Potions or Herbology, I'd love to know about the properties of all the different plants and Potions ingredients. ALso it's more of a challenge for students to enjoy this kind of subject because it's not really a wand waggling one (unlike Transfiguration and Charms)
Also, both of these are very worthwhile subjects which can teach the students lots of skills

Ronschica
June 7th, 2004, 11:31 pm
Potions. OR defense against dark arts.

Silver
June 7th, 2004, 11:36 pm
I'd say DADA, but it seems to be jinxed. :p

Maybe Charms.
Not potions, I can't cook, so that would probobly be no good for me either..
History of Magic would be hell, since I'm horrible with dates.
Not Herbology.
Transfiguration would be cool.
Divination is fun, but also pretty pointless.
Care of Magical Creatures would also be fun.

Wep
November 8th, 2004, 2:35 am
Hmm, History of Magic or Ancient Runes I think. Though Charms would be pretty nifty too

Arwen42
November 8th, 2004, 2:39 am
I would have to say Charms. I think it's very interesting and of well use. Love the spells.

Definitely Care of Magical Creatures. I just love animals - of all kinds, whether they veiw me as a tasty snack or not - and I think I'd really enjoy that post above all others.

see my response to "If Your were a professor" thread. I would definetly teach Muggle Studies with an emphasis on old rock and roll of the 50s, classic rock of the 60s, films of the 70s, underground comix, Tom Robbins novels, musical theater- basicly whatever I find cool, I'd be teaching :p I'd take several pages from School of Rock as my teaching inspiration

November 9th, 2004, 8:44 pm
History of Magic ahoy! Give over, Binns!

If I was offered to teach at Hogwarts I'd probably choose History of Magic or Transfiguration.

I would try my hand at Potions also if given the chance but I'd probably find it a little tedious...
