I just saw the newly-designed Harrypotter.com
To tell the truth, I think they could have done a better job with the intro...
The quality of the sound for the music was not very good, and the small screen (where the clips from the movie were played) was too small, in my opinion.
As for the main site, I liked it. Just like the CoS forums, they had the alternating images for the main home. I sort of wish they gave each character their own 'page' instead of clumping 3 characters at once on one image - I personally hated the quidditch theme main page (instead of Whomping Willow).
I think the new graphics, etc. are fabulous although I think they could be of better quality (it might be just me, but the pictures are not as clear as I thought they would be)
the skull, and weird head thing that popped down randomly were too much. I thought PoA was a children's book, not a horror novel.
One flaw is that all the screensaver, buddy icon, etc. were all over the place. Maybe it should have been put on same page or something...
I am still exploring the new site. Any comments or opinions on the new site?

ehhh i kinda liked the new site. i liked the marauder's map and the darker colors of the site. but yeah, they should have put all of the screensavers and downloadings together. you have to go through all the different sites to find something. but overall, i really like it.

I don't have time to look into the new site much right now, but I hope it shows a bit about WB interpretation of the Marauder's Map some. I have always had trouble picturing how it works, and want to see their version of it.

I didn't like the intro at all. Too small! I spent 10 minutes loading that?!
I haven't explored the new site too much, but so far, it is satisfactory. The new layout is probably the highlight of it.
I don't have a problem with the skull or weird head thing. The books are scary despite the kiddy feel to them. This goes hand in hand with the aging audeince who can handle more scary aspects of the books.

I didn't get a chance to explore much as the site kept shutting down on me. I'll give it a week for the traffic to die down and then try it again.
I did watch the trailer there and also thought the screen was too small. I can't wait for it to be on the quick time site where I can hopefully watch a full version.

Oy It isn't a childrens book! It was just sold towards kids cause it would make more money in that gernre! It is FANTASY book, not supposed to be for a certain age group. It is a book that kids can read, sure, but that dosen't make it a kids book! I mean, read GOF and OOTP! I like the wb layout though. AWSOME site!

hmm, am I the only one who still sees the boring old theme on the site? Maybe its because I live in the UK and the site is redirected to the co.uk domain? Any UKers who can confirm this?

I'm not getting the site up either. The one from the image above is what i get. It must be because Ukers et redirected. I don'tthink that is fair seeing as Harry Potter was created and developed in England. UKers always get jipped with things like this!

I quite like the new look. It reflects the darker themes of the books (and thus movies) from here on out. Really, I'm glad they're being honest about that part of it--if it appears too soft, parents of small children will be shocked at the actual scariness of the movie (not to mention the kids). If you still think these are kiddie books, you stopped reading after book one or two, or you've only seen the movies.

hawk1245, technically it is a children's book. It is written in a style that can be understood and enjoyed by people of about eleven upwards (gradually 'growing up' as the series progresses, but still manageable for capable young readers). Maybe there should be a more universal term for books than can be enjoyed by a young reader and much older readers of any age, but it to classify them as children's books until then is correct. J. K. Rowling writes the books for herself, she says, but she's talking about the plot and the humour and various depths of the story. The writing style didn't end up that way by accident. She does simplify her wording to suit audience requirements.
Having said that, since the style and content appeals to all ages, I have no problem with the skulls. The atmosphere of the book and presumably, therefore, the film isn't exactly cute, cuddly and full of talking rabbits. Skulls seems very appropriate to me.
TheWizard, I get that too. I wish they'd have one address.

I love the new layout. It seems like I've been wait for it forever. The introduction was ok, and the Marauders Map thing is real neat. I love the Snape wallpaper. :B

After visiting it three times now, just to get a real look and form a true opinion, I can truthfully say that I love the new layout.
The reason being that it reflects the increasing amount of darkness of the books. It also has done away with that corny kiddy feel that it once had.

Alright, here is a way to put it: there are some movies like Star Wars, The Hunt For Red October, that are okay for kids to watch, but it dosen't make them KIDS movies. I never view them as kids books anyway, but that's just me... I have always viewed them as fantasy. Anway, back on topic... Did anyone else notice that the picture on the wall of The Leaky Cauldron page that keeps raising it's eyeborws is a portrait of Alfonso Cauron???? LOL!

I like the new site, it's cool. I go there like every hour to watch the new trailer. Thank God for fast computers! :rotfl: I just can't wait to see the movie in theatres!

I saw the trailer last Thursday and when I try to load it again to view it, it never loads.
Could this be because of my slow computer? Does it usually take longer than five minutes to load? Or is it a problem with harrypotter.com?

I'm not sure if I like the new site yet. It seems too complex, like there is too much going on at one time. I tried to watch the trailers, but you can't really download them, and since I have dial-up (sigh) it is really choppy and incomplete. Does anybody else feel this way?? Maybe its just me and my simple mind. ;)

I really love the new layout. I love the layout and it shows that the books are getting a lot darker and more serious.

It's probably your computer. Mine loads in about 5 - 10 seconds .

I think their is something wrong with my computer. Everytime I put in www.harrypotter.com it redirects me to www.harrypotter.co.uk :( Does anyone know why?
edit - I've just seen what TheWizard posted above. It must because we live in UK.

I like the new layout. I seem to be in the minority here... but oh well. I think it's better than their previous layouts.

It's probably your computer or your connection. Mine loaded within a few seconds of typing in the address. Although sometimes the Internet is just slow no matter what kind of computer/connection you have.

I like the new site. It has a slightly more mature feel than the other older site. The images and sounds are cool. I still feel that they put to much emphesis on content for younger members, but that has improved somewhat. The new site isn't perfect, but overall, it is a definite improvement from the older site.

Personally I hate the message boards. The colors are a poop brown (not joking) and it is so weird how its running. The original post is on the last page, and its chronologically sorted by newest post on the very top. It's all very annoying.

I am from the UK and well I can get the new site from this link:
http://harrypotter.warnerbros.com/main/homepage/home.html
This should send you directly to the new site because I just tried it on Mozilla F and I think it worked but I cannot see the pictures just copyright 2004 and the brown background, which is the color for the new site that I have up on my alternative browser.
Nope, 'fraid not - it takes me to the UK site with an error message. I think, in the UK, it depends what type of computer you're using ...
It seems to work for absolutely everyone else except those in the UK. Which is really really weird. They could have tried to get them out at the same time, or atleast a day afterwards or even scrapped having a UK site and a US site and just made one site and made references to both countries within the pages, if they have to. I mean, even on the UK site they reference, in brackets, the name differences of the first book so what's the point in having two different pages at all?
But I want to see it. And it's really strange that we can't

I'm haven't looked at the message boards in the new site, but I'm guessing that they're basically the same as in the old site, just with a new color scheme. I know the old ones were awful, both because they were poorly set up and they didn't have any supervision.

They said in set reports that they based paintings on set off of crew members. And just compare it to actual pics of AC, it is DEFINATLY him. I laughed my head off upon seeing thtat! LOL! :) mY FAV PART OF THE SITE IS The COMC page, the pic of Hagrid's hut is awsome!

I can't get into the site :( I get some error and then it closes the brower I used to get into it. I think it's because we have problems with windows media player and it causes a lot of programs not to work for some reason. My computer is screwed basically.

March 29th, 2004, 12:00 am
Well that is strange because trust me I live in the UK and I seem to be able to get it so may be it has something to do with the browser. Have you tried MSN etc. Then again I might have two ISP and I am not sure which it is working on.
I'm not sure what things it depends on, but I know you need something for it to work in the UK. Or rather, I think it's more that you need something not to work ... it automatically redirects me to the UK site, and I guess it doesn't do that for you and other people from the UK who can view it alright. But what it is that does or doesn't do that, I don't know.

I can only a new version of the message boards and that's it although the links go no where for me and it is a awful colour. The button sounds are wose then last time (it now sounds like a warp engine about to explode or some evil thats following Dr. Who!). The main site again I can't get into either being in the UK. The runes are rubbish and do not look like any runes in existence.

If you go to the Leaky Cauldron page, there's a special feature that I think has been purposefully hidden.
In the lower right hand corner, run your curser over it. (Note- This only works after the page has fully loaded.) There should be a small area where your cursly briefly switches over to a hand with outstretched finger. When your curser runs over that spot, a little shrunken head sort of thing drops down from the top. It starts saying something, starting out in gibberish:
Gibberish, and un-intelligable words then I can feintly make out:
"Makes you easy before it eats you! HAHAHAHAHA!"
then pops back up. It will keep doing this every time you run your curser over that spot.

I've been trying to listen to it carefully to hear what the little head is saying, and I THINK its saying "At the leaky cualdron try the pea soup it makes you easy before it eats you." Or something like that.

I think you're half right ...
I heard "At the Leaky Cauldron [then I couldn't quite make it out, but I think you may be right about 'try the pea soup'] - make sure you eat it, before it eats you".

The new site is pretty cool... The intro wasn't too great, I think, but the site itself seems pretty good. The layout and animations especially... The message boards could be better though. The color scheme isn't the greatest, and the seem a bit disorgnaized.
As for the babbling head thing ( ), I think Auror and denim fairy pretty much got it. "At the Leaky Cauldron--hey, you got the pea sup?--make sure you eat it before it eats you" is what I hear...

I definitely must go back an check out that head thing - didn't get that the first time I was there. But I noticed that during the intro the jack-in-the-box thing pops up. There was a discussion before whether the clown head seen in some of the Japanese promo things really was a jack-in-the-box. Now we know that it is. Just one of those small things....
