LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Harry Potter junkies will get their boy wizard fix for two years running.

A mere year and a half after "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" opens this June, Potter-heads will return to theaters for the fourth installment of the fantasy franchise. Warner Bros. has announced that it will target a November 18, 2005 release date for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." "Goblet" centers on the now 14-year-old Harry who enters into the Triwizard Tournament against two rival wizardry schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. He is one of the lucky (or unlucky) contenders who
must pass three supreme tests, one that features dragons. Harry also enters a less dangerous but equally frightening arena: his first school dance. Mike Newell directs the fourth film.

The studio had previously enjoyed successful November openings for the first two films in the series. In the meantime, poor Harry his friends Ron and Hermione return as teenagers to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry for their third year of study, where they delve into the mystery surrounding an escaped prisoner who poses a dangerous threat to the young wizard in "Azkaban." The Alfonso Cuaron-directed film
opens super-wide on Friday, June 4.

Yay! I am so excited that we won't have to wait any longer than a year and a half for GOF to come out!

If only we could find out when the 6th book will be released....

Id have to guess right, i just don’t see them brining the book out in summer of 2005, when the movie 4 coming out a few months there after. Of course it would be great for us but Business wise it might not be smart to bring Book 6 and Movie 4 out near the same time.

also if you look at it you have a Harry Potter related thing every year for the next couple of years

2004- POA Movie
2005 - GOF movie
2006 - Book 6
2007 - OOTP Movie
2008 or 2009 - Book 7
2010 or 2011 - Movie 7

Why wouldn't that be smart? I think that that would be the best thing to do, as you get double the hype. More hype = more sales. People attracted into the Harry Potter phenomenon by the arrival of Book Six are then more likely to go and see Movie Four.

Well I definately think that its nice that we don't have to wait forever for GoF to come out but it does kind of scare me that maybe this does mean the next book won't be out until 2006.
I mean if you look at the dates so far since they started making movies it looks like they leave a space for the books to come out.

GoF came out in 2000
Movie SS came out in 2001
Movie CoS came out in 2002
They left a year open and looky what they did they released a book- OotP.
Movie PoA comes out in 2004
Movie GoF comes out in 2005
Here they have a year free will they release book 6 now in 2006
Movie OotP is scheduled for 2007

But like anyone anticipating the release of the next book I will agree with everyone that I want the next book out in summer 2005 before the release of the next movie. :D

I honestly don't think JK (or the publishers) will make us wait that long for the next book. She started writing the sixth book right after the fifth one. It's almost been a year and if it is released in June 2005, that would make it 2 years. I seriously doubt they would make us wait another 3 years.

I'm glad they will be releasing GoF in November next year. I was a little disappointed that PoA couldn't be released in November. The movie felt very wintry; I just love that. It's fun for the movies to be released during the holidays (well, in the U.S. anyways) rather than summer. I'm just silly this way. I'd prefer the HP movies be released around the time of the year when there aren't any good movies but holiday ones.

JKR also started writing OotP right after GoF. Don't you think it's slightly coincidental that there's a movie-free year which happens to coincide with the three year interval since OotP? I don't. I think 2006 is the most likely date for Book Six, unfortunately.

People in the southern hemisphere have coped quite well with HP as a summer movie. :p

Anyway, I'm also pleased to see HP move back to November releases. It was always nice to finish off the year with Potter, so I'm looking forward to doing that next year. :D

Give or take a month it's the same interval as between CoS and PoA.

I think book 6 will be 2006. You're pressuring her too much to get it released next year. Remember how long it took for OotP to be released.

Yeah! Another holiday release. Our family enjoys going to movies at Christmas (also a convenient time for me to get a sitter for Gus, though I might chance taking a 5 year old to see GoF - then again, I may preview it first).

Cheers, K

I agree. As much as I would love for it to come out next year, it's unrealistic that she finishes the book. She's a pretty busy woman; it's not just writing that she does. And we wouldn't want her to suffer from burnout or otherwise, book 6 release would just get further and further delayed.

Anyway, I can't wait to see production photos of this one. I think GoF is the most challenging to make a movie out of and we'll see how Newell fairs against the first two directors. And I'm actually more excited about seeing this movie than the Prisoner of Azkaban. I can't really wait to find out and see who plays Cedric Diggory. He has got to be a hottie! http://talk.portkey.org/html/emoticons/wub.gif

I am with you on this one. I wasn't even thinking about this earlier when I posted. I am also anticipating exactly how they will play the whole story out.

Yea, I know, but the end-of-the-year feeling is always memorable for me at least. I like it that Potter will maybe have almost no competition being released at the end of the year, which makes it more exciting to see.

I don't think Book Six ( I wish we knew the title) will take as near as long as OOTP. Yes, Rowling started it right after she finished GoF, but she also took a year off writing :). I expect it early next year. But if not i have plenty of theories to occupy myself with.

I'm glad however that the Potter movies are moving along on schedule. Now if only we could get the GoF trailer in front of PoA :p ;)

I thought I read somewhere that it will probably be going up against James Bond 21? Although these films appeal to different markets I think it's fair to say that it's going to be rather competitive. :)

The date works well for me, it'll be approximately the same time that I finish my exams and I could think of very little better than relaxing in front of a new HP movie :)

November 18, 2005? Well, let's see... I'll have graduated from school 6 months earlier and it will be 2 months away from my 19th birthday... Wow! I'm glad they set a date for the movie. I really don't mind what season the movies come out in. Having PoA come out in the summer means I can see it whenever I please. But having GoF come out right before the holidays is a nice treat.

Hopefully HBP comes out in June so we have some space between now, then the book, then GoF, then maybe GoF on DVD, then (hope, hope) Book 7?

There's my fantasy, anyway.

I hope book 6 comes out in June! I remember how funny my library at school looked when ootp came out. it was blue basically and I wasn't into hp yet so I would love to be able to see them do it again so I can be apart of it. They were giving out a lot of hp junk too and I want some this time!

Well if the rumours are correct about a January confirmation of HBP's release it's likely the book will be out mid-year -- plenty of time to shift marking gears.

PoA (cinema) mid-2004
PoA (DVD/VHS) end 2004
HBP mid-2005
Gof (cinema) end 2005.

Somehow I doubt that Rowling writes in tune with the release of the movies. Rowling seems like the type or writer who will release her books when she thinks they are ready, not the kind of writer who waits to release her books during marketing dry spells (between movie releases)

I think the November GoF release is as accurate a date as we have now, since it's the last known date we were given.

The timing of publication (once the ms is handed in) is entirely up to Bloomsbury.

December 4th, 2004, 4:33 pm
I hope that is true because 2006 for HBP, ahhh no that is a long while to wait though the GoF movie release date does seem to spring to mind so I would go with that, November 18th 2004.

I am hoping that the trend is going to be broken this time around, nothing bad about a Harry Potter frenzy year.

But you can bet your bottom dollar that they won't delay publication on their main money-maker. ;)

I am really happy with the date, its around christmas time, which should allow it to receive a reasonable amount of money at the box office. I am also glad they have been working on it for some time as the kids won't look too much older from POA.

Lilly Evans
December 15th, 2004, 12:33 pm
I think that's a good date. It's close to Christmas and if the sixth book comes out that summer, people will still be on a Harry Potter 'high' and will want to go see the movie.

You could be wrong there, newbies to the series buy HBP, get confused as to what's going on, so go watch GoF in the cinema, it's called bussiness strategy.

They'll finish filming around February...maybe even March. After that, it has to go through special effects, editing, and finally musical scoring among other things. After all that, it'll be around summer. That's when they start the marketing. So I think it's right on schedule.
