View Full Version : How Will Prisoner of Azkaban Begin?

How will this film start? The first movie showed the Warner Bros. logo and then went straight into the last part of the prequel. Then we zoom into Harry's Scar to reveal the title on a background of dark, stormy clouds. Chamber of Secrets began flying through the clouds towards Harry's street, passing the Warner Bros. logo and the title as we zoom along.
So, how will PoA begin?

Deary me, talk about anticipation!
hehe.
Somewhere Mugglenet posted the cast list in order of appearance, and you could deduce from that the scenes that would occur.
As for how it starts, no idea, through the clouds again? Harry is the first person to appear anyway, it could even open on Marge arriving.
No idea, sorry to say.
We do see Sirius early on in the film though, that must be the scene in every trailer, where we zoom in through the cell bars.

Thanks for the ideas.
I think a good begginning would be show Azakaban--it's extremely dark of course, so we can't see anything important. Then zoom through a wall to reveal Sirius lying there in his cell. We zoom in on his face and then zoom out again to reveal his face on the muggle news. The anchor is talking about Black. We zoom out even further to reveal that the news is on the new TV in the Dursley's dining room. The Durslies are eating their breakfast. Vernons says his line about how they should bring back the rope, and then states that Marge is going to be late; to which Harry begins to panic.

O, yeah; in my beggining, the Warner Bros. logo and the title will be shown as we zoom towards the Prison.

Wow! Hey, HarryPotter, how did you get that name; and only 62 days ago! I reckon it's because no one ever tries to get the obvious names because everyone reckons they'll already be taken--but if everyone thinks that then nobody takes them!

Thanks, Tyro, I think I will check out that 'Your GoF Trailer thread'. This probably sounds a bit sad but I'm always fantacising about what the trailers will be like when they come out.

Thanks, Tyro, I think I will check out that 'Your GoF Trailer thread'. This probably sounds a bit sad but I'm always fantacising about what the trailers will be like when they come out.
Sad? Never! I don't think there's an aspect of the movie industry which doesn't fascinate me. The other day I had a huge chat with a projectionist, talking about splicing and the way the whole kaboodle works. amazing.
I love trailers as well, and often wonder how much input the Director has. Foe example, a trailer sells the audience the type of film it will be. The PoA trailer(s) have set a much darker tone than the other trailers. But for certain films trailers can often have a negative effect, like the trailer for Lost in Translation tried to sell the film as a laugh out loud comedy, which it isn;t at all, thus many movie-goers were dissapointed. If you went (like me) with an open mind, you should absolutely love the film, least of all due to Scarllet Johansson's sheer beauty.
To answer this:
Anyway, how will the titles been shown?
I think you should really be looking at "title". In 'ye olden days all of the credits were shown at the beginning of the film, now they're all at the end, though they have retained studio information and main cast and crew information in most films. (Note some films like Van Helsing [aside from being diabolically rubbish] don't have any opening titles at all).
Sorry, went a bit off-topic. Er. I think we could see a very similar opening to CoS, through the clouds, pan accross Surrey, down to Privet Drive and in to the Kitchen or somewhere. I think the only thing we'll see will be the WB logo and the (silver - wohoo!) HP-PoA logo.

This is a very good idea, and along the lines to what I would have suggested. Although, perhaps we could see shadowy figures of Dementors at some point - not so as to ruin the surprise when they do appear, but just so as to titillate.
Also, HarryPotttter, please be aware that double, triple and quadruple posting and more is against the rules :) If you need to amend one of your posts, please use the Edit button on the bottom right hand of that post :)

I actually think that the shot of Sirius in a cell is at Hogwarts, not Azkaban. Look closley at the laten outside the cell, compare it to the latern that Neville hangs on in PS/SS, and the latern that is behind the trio in the Malfoy punch scene, it is the same design. So this MIGHT be when Harry and Herminoe fly buckbeak up to the window. This is just a guess though, it MIGHT be Azkaban, not so sure. I wonder if they will re-use footage from PS when it showed the Lily's death? Or if Cuaron re shot it that way he wanted it, ya know for the scene where the dementors are around Harry. Just have to wait and see.

I agree with hawk1245 about that picture. He has cuts on him that suggest he's been in a fight. I think he's in his Hogwarts stronghold waiting to be rescued, though admittedly it looks like that room hasn't seen a house-elf in centuries.
I think the film will start with the Dursleys telling Harry to behave himself and look smart because Aunt Marge is coming. Well, thereabouts.

Sorry about the five posts in a row, it won't happen again.

(silver - wohoo!)QUOTE]
Why do I get so excited just because the title's gonna be silver? I dunno, it's just cool, isn't it? Yeah, I kept wondering when the opening credits were gonna start when I saw Van Helsing but they never did. But if you stuck around in the cinema after the movie, the end credits were quite impressive.
Yeah, the old disney film 'Bednobs and Broomsticks' mention everyone who worked on the film in the opening credits. It's about five minutes long!
If I was directing a film, I'd wan't to make the trailer. If I couldn't, I'd at least point out which scenes they can and can't include--I think the Harry Potyter ones can be a bit too revealing sometimes. I'd love to make trailers for films as a job.
Anyway, perhaps the film will start with Aunt Marge's arrival. Perhaps the camera could fade out from Azkaban to a track of her car turning round a bend, past the sign reading 'Privet Drive'.

The title is different for each movie. PS: Gold letters, COS: Gold letter WITH green or blues light behind the words, POA: Silver with lightning and ice. I think GOF will be greenish with ivy and other plants growing on the sides of the letters.

Actually, I believe Vernon went to pick up Marge at the train station in the books, didn't he?
HarryPotttter
May 22nd, 2004, 8:42 pm
O, yeah Babara Kennedy! Well, it could just be the same thing with Vernon's car and we can see the rough figure of Aunt Marge in seat closest to the camera.
Anyway, I know this is a bit off-the-subject but, hawk1245, why do you suggest green and ivy for the GoF logo? It's very interesting so I'd like to know more, i.e. and explanation for your choice.
O, yeah, and let's remember that both the PS and CoS titles were both golden, regardless of their colour on trailers or posters.

May 22nd, 2004, 10:23 pm
Hmmmm. If you compare the PS logo with the CoS logo you'll find subtle differences that make them different. Like Hawk said, the CoS had some illumination behind it, like an enhanced PS logo.
I think Green would be a wierd choice for a logo colour, though I understand the whole link with Avada Kedavra and Voldermort. I mean, I think it's gonna be red personally, has anyone seen the BBC audio tapes? They use different coloured HP Film logos, and the one for GoF is red, it looks, I dunno, strangely fitting.

I think a cool begining would be like: we see the warner bros. logo zooming through the dark clouds with bats following, then it stops and the title appears flying through the clouds as well, then the words deteriorate and the movie starts with aunt marge appearing.

i think that they should have the usual WB logo and then the usual music ... then zoom in on privet drive on a little car going into the dursleys driveway..... it stops and u hear little ripper.. harry looks out the window (worried) and the door swings open with her standing in it with her dog:D:S
haha i dunno just an idea!

I don't know about anyone else but I kind of imagined the opposite to the CoS opening with the camera swinging through the sewers underneath Little Whinging, passing the WB logo and then slowing as the image of a huge shaggy black dog (sirius) looking up into the moonlight filtering in from a drain and the HP & tPoA logo appearing in silver letters and then the camera swings up through the drain and into Harry's window where we see him hidden under the duvet.

That wasn't terribly precise. It gave a rough outline, but didn't include some important factors and didn't say when or how the titles appear.

May 31 issue - The first scene of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" removes any doubt that the famous child wizard is growing up fast. The camera glides toward a light pulsing in the night, then through an open bedroom window, where Harry is hiding under his covers, playing with his wand and hoping to God he doesn't get caught. Wait a minute. Has new director Alfonso Cuaron inserted a sneaky allusion to the private habits of teenage boys into the family-friendly franchise? Cuaron's a warm, chatty guy and not one to dodge controversy—his last film, "Y Tu Mama Tambien," was so graphic that it was released unrated—but there's no way on earth he's going anywhere near this topic. "This is NEWSWEEK, man!" he says, then laughs for a very long time

Heh. Leave it to the media to twist something like that.
I think it makes sense that the movie begins from where Harry is catching up on his homework. I'd say it makes sense that the movie begins before or when Harry gets the Hogwarts Owl with the usual course letter and the Hogsmeade permission form. Especially since the permission form becomes the basis of the deal between Harry and Uncle Vernon regaring Aunt Marge.

He's actually not working on his homework, he's just playing around with some spell. But I did like the way the movie began, it was kinda cool.

Wow, that's such a great idea! You must post your GoF trailer; here (http://www.cosforums.com/showthread.php?t=25690)!
If it begins with Harry doing his homework, that'll be bit where he goes 'Lumos Maximo!'

Azkaban would be cool for a beginning.....but the book, of course, starts with Harry doing his homework. But then again I hear they haven´t stayed as close to the book as the two last films. So basically everything could be possible. Though, I do think showing Sirius in his cell would be...ahem...slightly more exciting than seeing Harry do his homework.

I've read about this somewhere. They say the camera would enter into from Harry's bedroom window and stop under Harry's blankets with him doing bits of magic. That's all I know. I just read it. I dont know if it is true or not. But I can merely imagine it.

i know exactly how it begins - harry is under his covers with his wand light on, uncle vernon comes in, he puts it out and pretends to be asleep. Vernon leaves and harry turns on the light again the light goes out the window and "harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban appears" uncle veronn comes in again and harry pretends to be a sleep again. Then it is daylight and marge is comming in, harry has his hogsmeade form and asks Vernon to sign it......
