Are any of you fans of Pink Floyd?

I'm what many would call a recent discoverer of Pink Floyd. I've only been listening to them since February.

What cd's do you have?

Who's yuour favorite band member?

What's your favorite album/song?

Do you want to see the Floyd get back together again?

I was a huge fan, not as much anymore, though they are still in my top ten. I had all the albums (vinyl) through The Final Cut, but then my whole rcord collection was stolen. Grrrr. I always liked RIchard Wright. They show a very definite and interesting evolution. The music is always very well put together and thoughtful. Right now I onlu have a couple of CDs and a cassette. I'm trying to keep up with what my kids are listening to. For my own tastes I have come back to Yes as my favofite band. They just never stop being inventive and interesting.

I love Pink Floyd. I have Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Wish You Were Here, The Division Bell, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Echoes - The Best of Pink Floyd, Obscured by Clouds, Atom Heart Mother, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, and Relics.

Syd Barrett and Roger Waters are my favorite band members, and probably the ones most people would say are their favorites, although there are fans who have a vehement dislike of Waters. Both of their stories are quite sad. David Gilmour is an awesome guitarist, so he has quite a following as well.

I don't want Pink Floyd to get back together, mostly because I don't think it would be the same. I think that their legacy is best left as it is, and a reunion would undoubtedly change the way they are currently viewed. Besides, Roger Waters has become so bitter, and Syd is almost completely gone, and I don't think the magic of Pink Floyd could be re-created.

As far as favorite albums/songs - it's really hard to say. I love Piper at the Gates of Dawn because it is so heavily Syd, and Bike is my favorite song on that album. I also like Gnome. Dark Side of the Moon is just awesome - one of the only albums that gets exponentially better every time you listen to it. The great thing about Dark Side is that you can listen to it in part and have one experience, and listen to it as a whole and have a completely different experience. I've heard some fans say that Dark Side is too "commercial" or "mainstream," but I totally disagree. I also love The Wall, because I think it is impossible to not love The Wall -- and you should definitely watch the DVD, too -- and The Thin Ice is one of my favorite songs from that album. Shine on You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, and Comfortably Numb are some of the songs that originally introduced Pink Floyd to me, so I naturally think that they are all awesome, too.

Obviously, it is too difficult for me to pin down my "favorite" song or album, but I think you can't go wrong with whatever Floyd album you choose next.

As of right now, I have Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, Atom Heart Mother, Animals, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and The Final Cut. I'd definitely have more albums, but I can only purchase them as finances allow, especially with each album being $20.00.

I'd say my favorite band member would be a tie between Rick Wright and Nick Mason. Both are heavily underrated and don't get the credit they deserve. Wright and Mason tend to stay under the radar, but both have contributed equally as much to the band as let's say Syd or Waters. Wright lends a good mix of background music the the albums. Mason, I'd say, is the backbone of almost every song. My most favorite song, Atom Heart Mother, wzs partially composed and fully conducted by Mason in recording sessions. The whole mix of instruments blends together perfectly at the right spots.

Pink Floyd made a small comeback in the early 90's with the release of The Division Bell, but without a *full* band, meaning an addition of Waters, minus Syd, I don't think that Pibnk Floyd will ever sound fully "whole".

It's a shame that Syd was stupid enough to become so hooked on LSD. While Syd added a lot of flavor to the band in 60's, in the long run, it was probably best to boot him out. With Syd gone, the band was able to move on and let their music evolve away from silly songs that were so prevelant In Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

I love Pink Floyd but i'm pretty new to them myself. my boyfriend is a complete Floyd nut though! :D Between us we've got prettty much everything that they've ever done. We've got A momentary lapse of reason, The Wall, The Wall (live), Animals, Wish you were here, The Dark Side of the Moon, Meddle, A Saucerful of Secrets, Ummagumma, Pulse, Atom Heart Mother & Piper at the Gates of Dawn. We've also got Dave Gilmour's self -titled solo album & Roger Waters' Radio Kaos & The pros & cons of hitchhiking. There's also an album of the early singles dating right back to the sixties which is absollutely top! We've probably got more but thats all i can see from where I'm sitting. :) I know it's predictable but my favourite song has got to be Comfortably Numb  cos it's brilliant. The recent Scissor Sisters cover was absolute sacrilege in my opinion!! I'm now sitting very comfortably listening to Wish you were here & I'll probably be listening to floyd for the rest of the day now!

Well I guess you could call me an original fan. I had all their "albums" before cd's were ever thought of. Back then tapes were the new craze.
My all time favorite album is Meddle. In fact (I'm a computer geek too), Sun Microsystems developed a visual style for their programs and named it for the Pink Floyd album. No it's not spelled the same but they were going with concept.
Gilmour is my favorite band member.
And I don't know if you have tried this being that you are so new to the group.:
Wizard of Oz, Dark Side of the Moon. Start the music when Dorothy starts on the yellow brick road. (turn the sound of the movie off).
enjoy.

I'm not so much a recent fan as i am a moderate fan; i know their music is good, and as such i like it, but on the same note i never find myself seeking out the music to listen to. Which is odd in its own sense i suppose.

My favorite song is probably 'Hey You'; and i cant really decide on a favorite album.

I like Pink Floyd. They always play their songs on my favorite radio station. I really enjoy their darker songs, such as "Comfortably Numb." I don't have any of their albums, though.

Wow. I never would have thought you would like Floyd, Williamson! :)

I'm more a casual fan. I like a few of their songs, but don't own any albums. It's my younger brother that's a fan. Do you like Lynyrd Skynyrd?

I like Pink Floyd in small doses. I find that they're brilliant at atmosphere, but it tends to be the same atmosphere. Mind you, I can easily sit through Dark Side of the Moon, it is excellently constructed and has my second favourite ending sequence (after Abbey Road). Other Floyd songs I like are Wish You Were Here, High Hopes, and the unforgettable Bike.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but what band is Lynyrd Skynyrd with?

I just bought Wish You Were Here and it's great. Have a Cigar and Shine on You Crazy Diamond are the best tracks.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is the name of the band. They actually had a teacher at school called Leonard Skinner & they liked his name so much they called their band after him. (or so I read somewhere years ago!). My favourite song of theirs is Sweet Home Alabama.:D

Pink Floyd is absolutely incredible. Dark Side of the Moon, recorded at Abbey Road (same studio Beatles recorded in) in I believe '72, is among the most monumental recordings in rock history, because it was one of the first widespread concept album--Deep Purple and Kansas also had very early concept albums. The Wall is probably one of the 5 strangest movies I've ever seen, but the soundtrack was incredible. David Gilmore was an absolute master at holding notes and bending them in his solos, and relating themes from one track into others (Hey You solo uses The Wall main theme, Dark Side of the Moon is almost like one theme revolving around the entire album).
Their other albums are also incredible, and Wish You Were Here is one of my favorite songs of all time.

asnd the lynyrd skynnyrd thing, yeah, i think it was a PE teacher

Did someone mention pink floyd?!
I love pink floyd, those crazy brits are the bomb!

Best Album:
Wish you were here, its 10X better than darkside

My favorite Album:
Momentary lapse of reason, yes, I believe that the two non-waters albums are two of their best. While they don't have the darkness of the waters albums, they are still amazing floyd albums none the less.

If you haven't seen the wall, go see it, it has some amazing, AMAZING animation sequences.

and no, floyd will sadly never get together again, however, you never know when roger waters will go back on tour

I love Pink Floyd! I've been listening to them since the end of 2002, I think, so I'm a pretty new fan.

What CDs do you have?
All but Atom Heart Mother and The Final Cut (well, and the greatest hits and live ones...but I really don't plan on buying A Collection of Great Dance Songs)

Who's your favorite band member?
David Gilmour! My favorite guitar player in the world.

What's your favorite album/song?
Hmm...I think Dark Side. The Wall got me into Floyd, but all the songs are so great on DSOTM. Hm, and favorite song...hard to pick just one...Oh, how about Comfortably Numb. It's such a classic.

Do you want to see the Floyd get back together again?
Do you really have to ask? ;)

I love Lynyrd Skynyrd. My favorite song would be a tie between Freebird and Tuesdays Gone.

As for Pink Floyd I also like them, although I only listen to them when they come on the radio. I'm not a die hard fan.
