Okay, we all know that the Slytherin team is sorta sexist from the Harry Potter books...but why is there a female playing Slytherin keeper in the 1st movie? I know this is old news, but i'm so bored, i'm just watching the movies and reading through the books looking for mistakes...later.

I don't think it's because they're sexist as such. I could be remembering something that isn't there, but isn't the Slytherin team supposed to favour brawn? Draco Malfoy is an exception because he's the Seeker.
If Milicent Bulstrode ever fancied a position on the team, I'm sure they would be happy to let her. If they didn't, they might all end up without the use of a limb or two for a few weeks.

The only thing I can find on ther keeper is the name "Bletchy".

okay...but this sort of relates on the movie more than the book. You have to watch closely for it though. The "female" saves the goal(i think...or she misses..) but still...I pretty sure they could of found another male.

It was from the cast list, not the book. She's listed as Bletchley
Also found this quote somewhere:
"In the movie Bletchly is played by a girl, but in the books it is said that no girls play on the Slytherin team..."

Well the movies always have some things that are different from the books so maybe that is one of them. The director might have felt that they should have at least one girl on the team so that they don't seem sexist.

Is Bletchley mentioned as being on the team after the comment about an all-male team?
It could be that she simply graduated or decided to stop playing. There doesn't have to be an inherent contradiciton here.

Yeah but the only reason they chose Draco was because his dad bought the whole team new broom!

Oh! I remember that now! But I never noticed that while watching the movie. But the movies have changed what characters are in what situations all the time. So I guess it doesn't matter.

Maybe because JKR didn't think it was that important.

why do something if your not going to do it right? plus i don't think it was 'important' enough to put in, in the first place...

Marguerite try not to double post. If you have something else to add to your post, use the edit function. Double posting is viewed as a bad posting habit by other users.
BUT...
as to a female Slytherin Keeper, I don't really feel that the gender of the character is really that important to the overall movie. Even with JKR looking in on what's going on with the films, small changes are going to be made. I think that if the film's makers were to do something that would mess up a plot point, JKR would stop them from doing it. So, I don't really see the gender of the Slytherin keeper as being very important to the overall plot. It's a small detail, in my opinion, added in to paint the picture of the entire Quidditch match so that readers can put a face with the name. If this person was a boy in the books, and was to be important, then they definately would have remained a boy in the movies, otherwise, i don't think JKR would have really minded them changing the character's gender.
