Anyone out there who likes The Libertines?
If your a fan of The Strokes and any original punkrock you should take a listen, they are brill. The guitar playin is cool-Dont Look Back Into The Sun is a great song. I know they've got a few problems with petes addiction but if they reform they are gonna be huge. anyone agree?

Ontopic: I bought their cd 'Up The Bracket' last week and I quite like it, though I haven't listenend to it that often(check siggy...I had some lyrics their too but a Mod deleted them and I haven't bothered to change it yet.:)). Real punk rock for a change instead of that pseudo-punk Good Charlotte and the like release.:tu:

I heard that Pete Doherty left, though, because of his battle with drugs and because he couldn't get along with Carl Barat. Is this true?

Wow, I love the Libertines. 'Up the Bracket' is an awesome album. I Get Along and Vertigo are so good.

I heard Pete Doherty left too. It's too bad...apparantly him and Carl Barat weren't talking unless they were on stage. But he said he'd be open to reuniting or whatnot. We'll have to hope!

yea he has left to go to a clinic to beat drugs but they said as soon as he's better they'll be reforming :D so we'll just have to wait and see :tu:

Great band, I listen to them practically all the time..
No one here in Sweden has ever heard of them, so thats good :eyebrows:
I like these new, original bands that NO ONE has heard of..
I am going to a festival here in Sweden soon called the Hultsfred festival and some of my favourite bands are coming, such as Pixies and International Noice conspiracy..

I like the Libertines a lot. Has anyone heard the song Pete Doherty made with that guy called Wolfgng, "This is for lovers"?
Such a great tune. I was supposed to go see them up london a few weeks ago and it got cancelled beacause he had gone to thailand to beat his addictions! :(

OMG I LOVE THE LIBERTINES!!!!!!!!
I can't get enough of them. I think they are grand. Yeah Carl kicked Pete out because of his drug addiction, it is a kinda hard love situation, Carl thinks that the only way he can get Pete of the drugs is by ignoring him, but shamefully that didn't work, so he is trying to get back in contact with him now.....apparently. But they've split up before so they might get back together again!But if not there is always Babyshambles/The Chavs/Yeti! Ohh i am so happy i found this thread!

I don't have a porblem with Pete's addiction. But I agree, they are really quite good, like may bands from the U.K. I think that they are better than the Strokes or the Vines, but I only know Don't look back in the sun (the E.P) and up the bracket. great songs, very fluid.

Carl did kind of kick him out the band...

Here's what Carl said (to NME) in November:

"As of the end of December Gary, John and I have decided The Libertines will be off the road for the foreseeable future. My position with Pete hasn’t changed, I hope he gets better, I still love him and hope he will come back in full health and take the world with The Libertines and put the Albion back on-course. Joining the old crew on the good ship wouldn’t be so hard. I don’t know if [The Libertines will] ever be quite the same but I don’t see why they’d be any less valid or why we’d have any less purpose or conviction or relevance if we did get back together. Of course I’d love to. But I’m not going to rest on my laurels waiting for Pete to decide if he’s going to stop taking drugs... I’ve got things that I need to get out my system in song right now and I’ve got some other work to do. My heart, of course, is with The Libertines. In its original line-up. The pictures [of Pete] sadden me. I don’t feel he’s well at the moment."

He didn't kick him out really, he just made it clear to Pete that he needed to clean himself up before he played with them again, but Pete took it the wrong way and decided to do his thing with Babyshambles. Then again maybe i've got it the wrong way round, maybe Carl shut him out and blamed it on the brown.

Yeah I agree with you that Carl probably stated that they couldn't carry on while Pete was the way he was; maby Pete found it was easier to leave the band than come off drugs at the time.

I agree i really want pete to clean himself up. I mean even if he didn't go back to mainsteanm music it would be upsetting, but as long as he gets better, thats all i care about! However no one has heard from him since New Years eve (he missed his gig in london)And there has been some thought that he and wolfman have gone into rehab, but if that’s true, I don’t know!
What do you prefer Up the Bracket or The Libertines? I think as a whole album, Up The Bracket is better, but The Libertines has better individual songs!
Did anyone on here hear about Carl’s operation. That brought a tear to my eye!

To be fair, he's been a huge influence on me to stay AWAY from drugs. He was the most talented musician to emerge in decades, and now he's all but thrown it away. What a waster, indeed.

yeah i totally agree. I mean people are always saying that he is a bad role model, but personally i think that see the way he has fallen apart and the way that he drugs has basically destroyed him has shown us that doing drugs isn't what it is all cracked up to be.
Does anyone else thinks that it really SUCKS the way that the Libertines didn't win anything for the Brits!!!!

Yeah, I mean Muse are great live and Franz Ferdinand are a great band but I was hoping the Libertines would pick up one, the NME Awards should be good; I think they have a very good chance at picking some up. NME usually recognise amazing music when they hear it :)

I'm actually glad the Libertines didn't win anything because all though they are a nice band Muse are lightyears ahead of them. It sucks though that Muse won only one award. Oh well.
