Interesting that Arabella may be someone's sister. I go with Dumbledore based on alliteration (Albus, Aberforth, Arabella).
FYI: A squib is the non-magical product of two magical parents (who may or may not be pureblood; magical does not equal pureblood).
As for Arabella doing magic later in life under extreme circumstances, I think we have seen her get a chance to do so (and was unable to do so) with the Dementor attack on Harry. She is supposed to be watching over him and has done so for up to 14 years. The attack freaked her out. So you have a high emotional state and the opportunity to perform magic, but nothing....Just MHO...

LOL. If Figgs were DD sister, would he need anyone's help to contact her? would she call him by the last name only, in the most critical situation (see right after Dementor's attack)? And all this just because the first names start with the same letter? By the same logic, Madam Bones (Amalia) and Moody (Alastor) are his siblings.

I think she is. She has no reason to lie...or does she :scared:? She sounded like she was pretty sincere when she was talking to Harry after the attack...Hey, just a sudden thought...what if (we know that this is going to be Harry's shortest stay at #4) Harry goes to Mrs. Figg's house? That would be pretty cool, and Harry might be able to get some sort of explanation out of her....

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. We don't know her age, for one thing. Does Figgy get a longer wizarding life or an ordinary length muggle one? How old is Filch and why did you leave his name off the list of possible siblings based on the first letter of DD's first name?! lol

I forgot about him :p Hey, maybe Crookshanks is DD's half-brother? DD was red-headed, maybe he is half-kneasel... He himself admitted that he is a good legimantis, and kneasels are supposed to be able to see through unsavoury characters... And Petunia is allergic to kneasels! That's why she could not attend Hogwarts and was left unfulfilled... :rotfl:

you know there's a WONDERFUL editorial on this very topic in Mugglenet.com

PotionsPunk, I looked on Mugglenet and had a hard time with the format. Not bad, just different. Is the editorial you're referring to: "Arabella & Argus:Coincidental cat-lovers or the same person?." I also found the same one on this site: Filch & Figg.
I just thought it would be a kicker if Figg is DD's sister. He has a questionable brother who we don't know much about yet, whether he's a great wizard, working as a bar tender as a spy, or exactly how he fits in.
Figg is always popping up in all the books. At present she's a squib. I heard someone was going to become magical later in life and thought she could be a likely candidate.
She was involved before, one of the old crowd, so she isn't afraid to be in dangerous situations. I do wonder how a squib could have been part of the former war and what part one could play, now that I think of it that way.
She was one of the first names DD thought of when he asked Sirus to get in touch with the old crowd.
It was just a quirky thought I had and decided to toss it in the pot with the rest.
