Well as my current sig suggests I enjoy the books, of course I haven’t read one for a while but I do have a collection of books. Anyways here is where you can talk about the game that may or may not have opened the door to fantasy for you. I know it took several hits to that door to open it for me, Tolkien, Dungeons and Dragons: Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms, David Eddings, and Terry Brooks. So let's start with Dragonlance. Books that you read, books that you would like to read. Anything to do with the Dragonlance World. Yes we like Harry Potter but we also like other things too. Who is your favorite character, who do you relate to? I also like Raistlin my favorite and beloved mage. Um think I ranted long enough I’ll allow someone else to talk now.

Out of the Dragonlance novels, I read the Chronicles, Legneds, and Tales when they first came out, but I started to get annoyed with how many different people started taking the works and doing different things with them. The last Dragonlance book I read was Dragons of Summer Flame. After that, I really lost interest.

A few years ago, I reread Chronicles, and found, to my dissapointment, that I didn't like the books nearly as well as an adult as I had as a kid. To me, they just haven't stood up to rereading.

However, I still like Sturm Brightblade. To me, he was the only character with a real progression. Which is funny, because I didn't like his character when I read them as a kid.

Yeah I know what you mean so many authors that some of the stories started to remind me of the Greek mythology with different tales. Last one i read was the War of the souls.

Incidentally, the original Tales books: Magic of Krynn, Love and War, Gnomes, Gully Dwarfs and Kender...are all getting rereleased soon with new cover art. The art will be the same style as the D&D rule books...and by the same style, I mean by the same artist.

Hey, you opened a thread :) I wanted to post a reply in that other one but it got closed before I got to it.

Anyone heard about the rumors that a movie is planed based on Dragonlance?

About the books - I love the ones written by the original authors (Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman) - but I hate most of the others.
My fav character is of course Raistlin but I love the Kenders as well ... it always makes me smile to read about them.

This is news to me. Which Book / Books are they planning to use? To be honest, after the Dungeons and Dragons film from a few years ago, I'm kinda hesitant to see anything Wizards of the Coast opts out for a film, but if they actually use the books and hire someone half-way competent to make the films, it could be good.

The last rumour I heard was that Paris Hilton was supposedly going to be in a Dungeons and Dragons movie. Please tell me this isn't the same thing.

I'm a big Tasselhoff fan.
I used to play a Kinder in AD&D.
One of the more foolish groups let me lead.......

Paris Hilton? Like talent-free-zone-Paris-Hilton?

About the movie rumors - I read on some message board that Margaret Weis said there are some production companies interested in the rights but she can't say more at the moment.
No idea what this exactly means or how long it takes till this will result in an actual movie - BUT I hope they will have some real actors in it ...

Raistlin Majere...

The authors were very surprised that the "greatest force for evil" in the 2nd trilogy was also the most popular character.

And yet, a character who wanted to become literally, a god, because he thought that the other gods didn't care about humanity. A character who was willing to commit the darkest deeds and even fight against the other gods (and win!) losing his own humanity even, for the sake of humanity.

But he could never forget his twin brother.

But his greatest victory...was against himself. And ****, that third book (Test of the Twins) had me in tears. He wanted Tanis to pull him home...he wanted to go home...out of the Abyss, but knew he could never willingly leave without destroying the world. ("Look Raist! I'll make you laugh!")

The authors made you see and feel every step of Raistlin's fall, and his redemption.

Yeah i heard about the rumors of a movie being made so not sure if it will happen but i heard of the rumor of Freddy versus Jason and was waiting for that one for a long time too so it could happen. I like the ones writen by the orginal authors too, also Douglas Niles. Midnighfire have you read the later stories of the twins? Dont want to spoil anything but you should just shows you the slyness of the characters is all i'm going to say.

Read them all...

Including the anthologies related to the Dragonlance setting.

And I suspect a movie may ruin the books.

I tend to think so too. But then again - I never thought it would be possible to turn the LOTR books in a decent movie either ...

Touche...

I admit, I only had only minor problem with the 2nd trilogy. The duel between Fistandantilus and Raistlin. thought Weis and Hickman took the cheap way out of giving a blow-by-blow account.

(The "Shadow of Ararat" by Thomas Harlan had one of the best magic duels I've ever read... A little off-topic I know)

I brought the newest book from Margert Weis been a while since I read a new dragonlance book. It starts from where the War of the Souls ends, pretty good I thought. The gods are struggling over power and in lisit Mortals to help them. That's all I'm going to say. Wonder why Tracy Hickman didn't write this one, of course he could be busy doing that series with his wife.

Intersting Characters Mina from the War of the Souls is back, A confused Monk named Rhys and a kender that isn't kenderish named Nightshade and a dog named Atta.

I have only read one Dragon Lance book an it was Dragon Lance :The Legend of Huma. I'd like to see a movie about that book. Isn't that the book about a silver haired women who is also a silver dragon. Huma falls in love with her as a human. He is also befriended by a Minatour. He sets the minatour free and it owe's Huma a life debt. I'd like to see that as a movie. Mostly because its the only book about Dragon Lance i've ever read.
