The saga of Darren Shan/ "Cirque du freak"

Does anyone here read this serise by Irish author Darren shan? I feel it is a relivent topic (certainly in this forum) because one of it's main selling points (or at least the one the publishers seem to push) is that JK Rowling reviewd the first book - "cirque du freak" and her praise is used as a strap line on all the american covers! There are 11 volumes published in the Uk and 7 in the US (with the eighth coming out soon) the author has a brilliant website that he maintains himself - i'm sure any fans will have found it, or if not they should try and find it! :) So does anyone read these books, have you heard of them or are even vaguely interested? they're very good! :)

Iv read the first one and part of the 2nd one but i got kind of bored, i know that sounds terrible but im not keen on the way its written, i like the fact that Darren is telling the story himself and i think its a great story, im just not keen on the language of the book etc. I don't know i might try reading it again sometime its just at the moment it doesn't interest me.

Well, i know that this thread was started ages ago, but I just finished all the books, and the ending seemed a little weird to me... so I guess I just want to know if anyone else has finished the series. And if you have, is the whole "This story is based on the Truth" thing just a publicity stunt thing? I'm a bit gullible, ya see...

it is such an awesome book!! you should at least read the first couple chapters so you'll know!

i do know what happens in the last books but i wont ruin it for anyone coz im not even sure if you would believe what i say! but it is alright, the ending is very wierd and i think that the first books are the best!! but a word of advice the last books are not that good, although they are alright its a bit... but it is good, ok this looks really confusing but it is good but at the same time a bit strange and very unexpected.
and i heard they were making a film but that was about a year ago so maybe they are not anymore? i hope they do but then again dont because i dont want it to spoil my imagination!
But yes the books do rule!

I know what you mean though, the books are good and everything but the first few are definatley the best, better written, more believeable, more thought about and interesting plots! The later ones, especially since the war of the scars began has all seemed like a boring blur, and I really disliked the last book, I feel really let down by it and think it has ruined the entire series. But oh well, they were good books for a while and maybe in the future I'll go back to them and change my view but for now I'm a bit put off.

Im sorry to all the people who read my last comment on this subject and did not understand, you see i share the same thoughts as Belficat, in that i liked the first books really well but i felt that the last couple of books were disapointing but alright, although the ending was (i think) completly rubbish as it was somethink that was worse then waking from a dream. But i think the ideas in the book are good (but not the ending) so, and yes i know now im repeating things but the ending is the worst but the other stories are good and the first was best! Understand now belficat? and im sorry to anyone else i have confused! :sad:

no of course not, cough cough! And this is not a public chat room! I think that DS is a very good book that a good friend of mine introduced to me *cough belficat cough* and if anyone has not read them then i recomend them to you!

WOW. I wasnt sure that many people had ever even HEARD about the Saga. I'm in the USA, so i've read up to book 8! YAY! About the movie, some studio owns the rights to the movie. Not sure which. Please do not post spoilers about books 9-12 please! The last book WILL NOT be out in May. Book 9 will. Book 12 should be out in Fall 2006.
