I voted. Mine is Goblet of Fire because I just love the attention to detail and the vastness of the story. I love the ending as well. It really sets things up for a powerful and emotional book five.

Well, the Poll isn't allowing me to vote, so I'll just post my answer. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The ending was simply magnificent, well thought out, and full of action. We saw Ron's true colours in this book (he's a jerk), and the Quidditch scenes were also spectacualr. Plus, It made me a firm fan of Hermione's. She rocks!:D

I picked the Prisoner of Azkaban. I just adore Lupin and Sirius and those two were introduced there, we also found out more about Harry's background and it had some great moments and we learned more about many characters. No dobut the Goblet of Fire was a very close second though, both were awesome books.

I also chose POA. Lupin is what pushes it over the top for me, lol. Don't get me wrong, the end of GOF is my favorite part of the whole series, but I find POA in its entirity more enjoyable than the other books.

I like PoA best, also. It has such a dark, mysterious feel to it. It also has the introduction of two of my favorite characters, Black and Lupin.

It won't let me vote, but I'd be Undecided. I've never been able to choose and tend to switch on a weekly basis. If I had to choose I'd say PoA; it introduces Lupin and Black, you see more on Harry's past and it gets so much darker. They're all incredible.

I voted for GoF because
- firstly it was the longest by far
- secondly because it had the quidditch worldcup part
- darker and more exciting than the other 3 books
- more tense
- TWT competition which was pretty cool in my opinion

I totally agree with you Wizard. It just had so much more to it than the other books. It almost felt like she wrote the first three more out of obligation and necessity. GoF was here finest hour so-to-speak, although some say the best is yet to come

I voted for GoF too, one (small) reason was the length of the book, but the other is that it sets up the stories for the rest of the series. What could possibly be better than that?

TheSortingHat

Definately, Anne! Her writing does not deteriorate with length, so I like the longer ones - more plot development!

It wouldn't let me vote. I love Prisoner of Azkaban. Two of my favorite characters were introduced: Lupin and Black. Harry gets the Marauder's Map. It's the funniest of the four.

July 24th, 2002, 1:48 pm
Like several other people, I voted for PoA because of Sirius and Remus. They are both awesome and the Marauders are awesome. Although I hate Peter, the story of his betrayal of his friends is well written.

I voted for Goblet of Fire, but I also really like the Prisoner of Azkaban. I think the biggest difference between them was that Goblet of Fire was more intense and definitely more dark. Harry really grew up in this book, and I think that we really saw the colors of friendship in this book. Not only that, this book wasn't only limited to Hogwarts like the others were. It showed so much more, the Quidditch World Cup, and the different schools. It also showed a little bit of Dumbledore's power as well as Harry's capabilities. I also agree with Matt and TheWizard. They had some really good reasons.

I like that Alicia. That's a good point. I think their (Harry, Ron & Hermione) friendship is blossoming a lot in GoF and reaching full circle. I think the next test is how they handle growing up and falling in love etc... I think it's good to remember that you are reading about "first times" a lot in these books. First meeting, first worries, first fights, first shocks, first feelings... They are children growing up and beginning to develope greater character and depth. I think that's what makes the books so much more alive to some people. They are written as though a child were writing it.

I voted for The Philosopher's Stone because I discovered the whole new and amazing magic world. Other books helped me to know this world better, but the feeling after reading the first one is unforgettable. My second favourite is The Goblet of Fire because it was full of action and mystery.:D

It wouldn't let me vote, but my favorite would have to be POA because of Sirius and Lupin and because you find out a lot about the history of the characters. One thing I liked especially is that you find out why Snape hates Harry, Sirius, Lupin, etc...

I go with Alicia. I voted GoF but I also really enjoyed PoA. The PoA was a break from Voldemort and I appreciated it. I found that SS and CoS are similar in the way they are built but not PoA. PoA let me discover my two favorite characters, Lupin and Black. I found the final pretty intense between the three adults wizards.

GoF, is dense, dark, Harry is older and a better wizard. I am very curious to see what kind of guy he will be in book 7 because I find that things go fast for him, especially that we know that the worst has to come.

I couldn't vote either (I'm on the same computer as Mara Jade  ) but it's PoA for me because of how complex the whole story is, yet JKR pulls it off... it's complexly brilliant :) and I love Lupin and Sirius.

I chose Prisoner of Azkaban with Goblet of Fire in a close second. PoA introduces so many great characters (Lupin, Black, etc.) and has my favorite ending of the four.

I voted for the Prisoner of Azkaban because of Sirius and Lupin :) I love those characters. The plot was also great, and like other people have said here, you get a lot of background history in this book. I chose this over the Goblet of Fire because I didn't like the darker tone of GoF (even though it was still a magnificent book).

Am I at a Harry Potter message board, or a Lupin/Black board? I'm just asking because it seems that that's the only reason people like Prisoner Azkaban. It's your opinions (and I respect them), but I found that the Buckbeak story was uninteresting and the Time Turner twist made the ending weak. Black was ok, but Lupin is overrated. Whatever floats your boat, though.

My favorite is Chamber of Secrets. I love it. I love the escape from privet drive and the whomping willow. Quidditch against Malfoy made it more personal. The characters were good too. Lockhart made everything interesting... I love it!

I voted for Goblet of Fire, because of all the issues that were either introduced or re-introduced from previous books:

-racism, which opened up other sides to characters like Fudge, and Snape, and which touched more than just purebloods and muggle-borns, but certain magical races like the giants,
-enslavement, which re-introduced Dobby and the elves and allowed Hermione to be a more politically driven character,
-the underlying moral of unity that was captured in Dumbledore's Great Hall speech and that brought me to remember real life events like 9/11, and
-miraculous possibility and making a difference, such as when one is in the minority and still makes it in the face of overwhelming majority. For example, as what happened at the Quidditch World Cup, where it is proven that it IS possible to win even if the opposing team caught the snitch, and at the end where, even surrounded by Death Eaters and a powerful dark lord, Harry managed to still escape and bring honor to his dead friend Cedric by returning him to Hogwarts.

I voted for POA. I liked this one because it gave Harry what he has wanted since the beginning family. Granted Black is on the run, but still gives Harry hope of having a true loving family. I liked the way the characters developed in POA.

I like the Prisoner of Azkaban
It's because the ending is so creative .
I can hardly think out that Sirius was betrayed by Peter too.
And Scabbers can turn into Peter, really amazing !!!!
Also, I like Sirius a lots,
therefore, I vote for PoA.

i liked PoA the best followed in a close second is GoF. The one and only thing that turned me off is the way the ending is written. I truly felt that it was way too fast of an ending. JK seemed to speed right through it all and I didn't get a chance to pause and catch my breath and reflect. I felt hurried. Didn't like that feeling.

Hey seashell323:

Isn't that just the best quote? I loved that movie.

I chose PoA. It has the best plot, the best lines, and the best characters!!!! *Huggles Remmie*.
The end of GoF is the best bit of the series, but PoA has such an amazing storyline - full of twists about Sirius/Pettigrew.

My favorite HP book is number 3, the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is so complex and full of thrills, I love it! It introduced Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs, my second favorite team of troublemakers (Fred and George take first place! :D ) and Quidditch was a big thing in the book. I'd tell you every single detail, but I don't think you want to spend 3 hours reading my post! ;)

hmmm. tough decision. in the beginning i felt undeniably that the best book is the GoF. but now increasingly i feel that the PoA is just as good or maybe better... I love Sirius and Lupin, they are my favourite characters

August 9th, 2002, 3:42 pm
Okay, I voted for PoA. Perhaps, the actual time turner storyline is improbable but it really opened up new horizons for the books to come, and it was the most heartfelt. Some of the books are really intellectual and really give your brain a whirl, but this book was so full of emotion. (hagrid/bucky, ron/hermione, harry/black, black/pettigrew, lupin/black etc.) I love all of the books to death, but PoA really hits home.

Cheers

Mine is GOF, it goes more in depth into the storyline, more detail was put in and some romance is surfacing. It's also the deepest one yet, I mean with Cedric dying and all. My second favorite is Chamber of Secerts.

All the books are good, all the books have parts I enjoy, but I think I enjoyed Prisoner of Azkaban most. The characters and the plot line drew me in and grabbed me emotionally in a way that the other didn't. Though I enjoyed all the others, too.... :)

PoA is my favorite because Harry FINALLY gets a break in his homelife with Black...true he doesn't get to stay with him but Harry isn't totally without guidance anymore.

I also like GoF but some parts seemed to drag for me like Ron's fight with Harry and the 2nd task. But, it was my 2nd favorite book.

I voted for Prisoner of Azkaban. Don't really know why it's my favorite but when I'm re-reading all the books I always have the most fun reading PoA.

It's interesting that barely anyone chose PS or CoS as their favorites.

Puffskein
December 7th, 2002, 8:51 pm
I feel like commenting on each book and what I do / don't like about each:

PS: Good: The introduction of the magic world and the way the plot comes together at the end.
Bad: Because it's the first book, the characters aren't developed much. And I think it moves too fast (not enough detail on lessons etc)

COS: Good: The insight into the house system and Voldemort's character.
Bad: The plot doesn't feel watertight enough to me. I felt Ginny didn't appear enough to make it plausible that she was behind it all.

POA: Good: A stunning twist and a truly moving backstory. Oh yes...and Remmie.
Bad: I didn't find it as much of a page-turner as the others - the plotlines aren't all that strong until three-quarters through.

GOF: Good: Length allows more detail of the characters; broader scope on other countries and MOM; gripping plotline throughout; and of course the ending.
Bad: somehow the Crouch/Karkaroff/Bagman saga can't compare to MWPP.

So I think the best one is GOF, but POA has a special place in my heart.

I voted for GoF because I liked the complex parts, the good ending, and the overal length. They are all good, but I think I liked that one most.

I changed my vote because I'm an Evil Mod and therefore have Special Powers.

My favorite, now, is Prisoner of Azkaban... I think that book was flawless. The new elements were excellent; the development was neat and matched perfectly to the book. The plot lines were clean and well cut. Sirius and Remus were introduced; the climax was amazing; the buildup to the climax was seamless even though it wasn't linear. It was flawless.

Now that I've had time to consider it, GoF was a little too choppy... The lines were neat but didn't fit in as well. It was a great book but left some stuff to be asked for.

The first two books show the strain of a writing beginner. Too little was covered to put a bit of reality into the books, and very little was extended past what it had to be. They have a handful of reasonably large errors, and there isn't enough of extreme good to cover them up. They're good, but they aren't good.

Just my two cents.

I think the Goblet of fire is the best book. It pushes the story to a whole new level. Just not about Harry vs Voldemort. It starts to introduce what is going to happen with all the major characters in the book.

I couldn't decide between PoA and GoF so I just flipped a coin. I don't like SS as much as the rest of the series because it's simply an introduction with a bit of action. I don't deal well with spiders or snakes and that's why I didn't chose CoS. I love PoA because of Lupin and the whole Sirius thing =) And Goblet of Fire is just something special...it's different from the rest of the series and involves much more suspense.

I agree with Lady V. I have chosen PoA, not because of the introduction of Lupin and Black, but because of the sense of hope that Harry feels, that someday, he will have some sort of family, as well as the strength he finds within himself to protect it. Also, we begin to see some of the vulnerablilty Harry feels due to the loss of his familly.

My favorite book is #3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It is my favorite book for many reasons. It introduces us to two of my favorite Harry Potter characters, Sirius Black (yeah, he was mentioned in #1 but we didn't see him) and Remus Lupin. We also learn more about James in the book, as well as his schoolhood friends. I loved the Marauder's Map and the chapters about it. Third, I think that when Harry is finally able to conjure up a Patronus and scares away the dementors and then finds out why his father was known as Prongs was totally cool. I also loved when Dumbledore told him his father was alive inside himself. That was really sweet. :clappy:

Also a big in this book for me was Professor Snape. ARGH. I don't like him. That is why I was so very happy to see him made fun of with the boggart and to have has his revenge plan totally foiled. As Dumbledore said, he's not mad, he'd just suffered a great disappointment. I loved it! :rotfl:

I LOVED Prisoner of Azkaban! I loved the ending...it was such a roller coaster, first you think something awful is happening, then something wonderful, then awful again and finally awesome but with a little bit of badness...it was so enjoyable to read! Aah! But of course, the ending of Goblet of Fire was incredible, I REALLY didn't see it coming, I was so HAPPY when Cedric and Harry touched the Goblet together and then BAM I was in complete shock over what happened. Dumbledore's Leaving Feast speech was memorable too, the whole thing about choosing what is right over what is easy. Powerful stuff...

PoA, by a mile. GoF plods along far too slowly (except at the end when it really does come into its own) and the plot is linear compared to that of it's predecessor. I love the way the plot evolves, its amazing. At each stage we are only told just enough about Black and his story and it really keeps you hooked, even know after the umpteenth reading, absolutely fantastic. Here's to hoping Ootp is as long as GoF but with the plot intensity of PoA!

I picked Prisoner of Azkaban for several reasons: 1) It has a really great plot, with so many twists, 2) It reveals more about Harry's past, 3) New characters, 4) Harry & Co. is not in the limelight for a change, and 5) They finally had a great DADA professor.

This is so hard for me, because I love them all! But I'd have to pick Chamber of Secrets, because it reveals a lot about Voldemort's past and is a great example of Harry's courage and how he relies on instinct rather than magic. And I love the theme of the book, which is summed up by Dumbledore's quote (my signature)! I was so happy they put that in the movie! I like the darkness of CoS, and for that reason, Goblet of Fire is my second favorite.

I've chosen Prisoner of Azkaban but it was tight! The main reason that its my favourite is Lupin is my favourite character out of all the books. I can't wait to see more of him in the next books. Also the fact that we learn so much more about Harry's past in this book. What happened to his parents is still a great mystery to us and to Harry so this was the first step in unraveling this mystery.

GoF is more intense and longer. It is also a very enjoyable novel. However, I voted for PoA.

Introduction to:
Harry's Past (and part of James)
Lupin
Black
Wormtail
Time travel
Hippogriffs

I also enjoyed the wonderful way Draco kept getting his comeuppance.

My vote went for GoF, though PoA is close at second place for me. I just love Hermione smacking Draco! That was just rich! But GoF stuck out more clearly in my mind. I mean the Yule Ball was a monumental moment, the Uranus Joke by Ron, not to mention my whole R/Hr ship happy self. GoF was just plain wonderful!

I know what you mean, I love them both equally as well. But I think Lani put it best when he commented on the overall storyline taking a new path in GoF (a few post before). That along with my other reasons makes it my favorite. Though now I can't wait to see what OotP may bring.

Allright, I'm totally unable to decide.
Can't decide between part one, part two, part three and part four ... :rotfl: althought I've red all of them several times. I like part one because it's a little more "friendly" than the others, but it's also more "boring" (Non of the parts is boring t all, but there's not that much action)
I like part two because it's a horror-book, and a realy good one too ;)
And you find out more about Harry and the others, and I realy like Tom Riddle.
I like part three because there is no Lord Voldemort in it (not realy) and I realy like Sirius, I even liked him, before I knew he wasn't bad.. And after all this mad rat is away (thank you lord.. I hate the rat)
And I like part 4 because there's so much happaning and there is the Quidditch world cup AND the Tre-Wizzard Tournament. I also like the idea of inviting two others schools. (well done J. K. R. ;) )
It's only, I bozght the tapes from part 4 and every time I listen to the end, I can't sleep afterwards.. :'(

But if youa sk directly.. it's part 4 (but that opinion changes all the day..)

I love all the books, but if I have to choose one it has to PoA. Like most people it is because of the introduction of Remus and Sirius that just puts it a head of the rest. Trouble is now I find myself wondering about what those to did at school as much as wondering what will happen to HRH.

I also love it for the shrieking shack scene, the passionate Sirius juxtaposed against a very cold and calculating Remus, as they confront Wormtail. I love it when Sirius roars"THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED" 12 years of bitterness and anger expressed most articulately in a few sentences, but even more telling is the anger and hatred that Remus elicits by telling Wormtail "You should have realised, if Voldermort didn't kill you, we would" Nice kindly Professor Lupin and all that repressed hatred, love it.

^_^Peace!

The majority votes PoA. And I agree with everything Alex said. PoA is such a great book because the characters, and it's a nice break between the harassment of Voldemort in person. GoF is my second favorite, though not by much. GoF is so exciting. The only boring parts I find in it are with the house elves. They're my least favorite characters.

As a whole, I'd have to say that Goblet of Fire earns the spot. The general plot is a bit more obscure, and it split in quite a few directions, which was very interesting and a bit more complex than what we'd had before. The characters progressed to what I'd classify as their highest points, where they were the most realistic and the most firm.

However, I understand some of the calls for Prisoner of Azkaban - that was the most emotional of the current four, and the variety was played very well. The Shrieking Shack had a good climax, and it wasn't written in a "happily ever after" style. This sustains the book, but there isn't enough displayed in some of the bits of the book to keep it standing. Once the situation is revealed, you're drawn in; before, you're only wondering where this could be headed.

The first two books show the strain of a writing beginner. Too little was covered to put a bit of reality into the books, and very little was extended past what it had to be.

I'd just like to say how well you put that. I totally agree! It's a shame that the plot of POA didn't have more momentum, although it made complete sense once you've read the whole book. I agree with whoever hoped the next book will have the emotion of POA and the excitement of GOF!

It has to be BoF with PoA in a very close second. I love GoF because it's the book which leaves you asking the most questions at the end of it.

Although all the books are excellent, my favourite is Prisoner of Azkaban. I couldn't put it down, especially when I got to the bit where Harry and Hermione went to rescue Ron from the clutches of Sirius Black at the Shrieking Shack. :D

My favorite HP book is PoA. I loved the characters, I love the surpirse ending with serious and wormtail. Man that took me for a loop. It's so funny as I read it over and over again all the clues she hides in the text about them and then how it all comes together in the end. Oh, it was really brilliant. But, mostly I really loved the characters and all that happens. yay for the mauraders!!

I'm undecided, whilst I think the 4th book is much more mature and deep, and yes, I agree with Morgoth - it sets the scene for a fantastic book 5!

However....Book 3 was again very good, full of humour, twists and little tricks. I would often find myself in fits of laughter, yet book 4 I was captivated and glued to because of the above.

It really is a tough choice and I want to read all 7 before I make a final choice :p

Originally my favourite was the Prisoner of Azkaban. But now I have started to lean towards the goblet of Fire. So in order my favourite Harry Potter books at the moment are-
GoF, PoA, CoS and PS.

February 26th, 2003, 6:27 am
Undecided. It's like choosing my favorite Beatle. SS/PS is Ringo- I love it but it's not my favorite. CoS is George- it's absolutely wonderful, but not quite my favorite. Then PoA is John and GoF is Paul. I love them both sooo much. I'm usually leaning toward picking GoF/Paul as my favorite, but then PoA/John is brilliant too! It's so hard!

POA is the favourite because most of the danger is played in Harrys mind, we find out more about James and are introduced to his school friends - suggesting that the school friends Harry makes will be with him long after they leave the school.
There is more humour in the book, but it shows another side of Snape.

I definitely like GoF because it's the turning point in the story and builds us up for the rest of the books. It's also develops some relationships and sparks a lot of questions. But I voted for CoS because it's humorous and I LOVE Lockhart. I think he was the perfect amount of comedy needed just before the story actually gets heavy. But it's definitely a tie between the books.

My fav has always been PoA. It's the best plot and I love the new characters in it. When I read it for the first time, about half way through, I just could not put it down. I love Goblet of Fire. For me it's the beginning of the story, you know with Voldemort rising again. And i also love the Hermione-Ron thing. And my favorite part of all is Severus Snape and Sirius Black doing the hand shake. It's a must read part (for me though), I can just imagine their faces.

I voted for PoA. I lurved all the little bits of MWPP and Lily, as well as the carefully planned details,so that everything gitted together. And yet, without reading carefully, one would certainly not have been able to predict the ending. Also, I like Professor Lupin's appearance in the book, as in the fact that he was present in the book. And Quidditch, that was fabulous, I just couln't help but sniffle that Gryffindor finally got the Quidditch Cup!

i didnt go through every single one of these posts but i did skim through them and it seems that everyone liked POA the most. My Favorite book is GOF!! i loved it for three reasons:

1. The sespence of the Tortament(sp?). I was at the edge of my seat when ever the different tasks were bein done!

2. the conflict with Ron and Harry. It was sad but it made them seem more normal.

3. Three words: RON and HERMIONE!!

Wow, I can't believe I haven't replied to this thread yet...

Anyhoo, my favourite book is definitely PoA. If I had to rank-order the four, I'd probably choose PoA, followed by GoF, PS and CoS in last place.

I have a funny feeling, though, that CoS will become one of my favourites at the end of the series -- it seems like the kind of book that will become more significant as the series progresses. I'm sure we'll sit back one day and marvel at how clever JKR was to throw in all those hints in CoS, much like the inclusion of Sirius Black in PS.

Time will only tell, I suppose. :)

Wow, the results of that poll have really surprised me. I expected to be in a minority liking Prisoner of Azkaban better than Goblet of Fire.

I don't know what it is, introduction of Lupin and Sirius, although I prefer Sirius' involvement in Goblet of Fire. I also like the Divination classes as I think they are very telling, the house Quidditch Cup and also the Dementors and their profound effect on both Harry and Dumbledore.

i picked goblet of fire. i loved that book i cryed at the end when cedric died and i love the fact that harry got to see his mom and dad, and i think that is what made me cry the most. i also loved when they were at the quidditch national chamionship and you finally get to meet ron's older brothers.

Grace Granger
May 7th, 2003, 8:05 pm
I pick Prisoner of Azkaban because:

1. We see Harry, Ron and Hermione developing. We get more of a sense about their character's feelings. They're growing up and it all starts in this book.

2. We learn a bit about what happened the night when Harry's parents dies.

3. We learn about time-turners, Fidelus Charm, and that pets are more than what they seem.

4. We are introduced to Sirius, Lupin, and Pig.

5. We see how much Hermione truly cares about Harry by putting their friendship "in danger" when she told McGonagall about the Firebolt.

6. We saw how strong they are together when they directed their wands to Snape and said "Expellairmus" together.

7. How Ron and Hermione are willing to sacrifice themselves for Harry.

Here comes the SHIPping parts:
8. Harry for the first time marvels in Hermione's intelligence.

9. Harry and Hermione work well together. They know what each other is thinking and what they're about to do.

10. Hermione grabbing Harry's arm throughout the book.

11. Harry helping Hermione get on Buckbeak without her asking for assistance. :D

12. and last but not least, the fact Harry and Hermione are closer.
:crush:

I totally forgot the most important thing!
13. Hermione slaps Malfoy and drops out of Divination. This is what I like to call Hermione's Bad Day. :D

I definitely chose PoA, mainly because of everything that happens on the last day of their exams. I had to re-read the part in the Shrieking Shack right after they walked out of it in order to fully understand what Black and Lupin meant in the beginning. And I was so amazed by this time-turner thing and how well JKR had thought it over...
Of course I love the rest of the book too, but the end is really what always comes up to me when I think about it!

Just as an aside: In the paper last week I read about a survey of people's opinions on the best novels written by women. All four Potter books were in the top 50, I think GOF did best and good for it, but I was a bit miffed to see POA as the lowest placed of them. The same thing happened in a survey about the best children's books. POA is a masterpiece! Still, you can't take surveys too seriously.

I like all the books, but Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. I just think it had the best flow out of all of them, and I couldn't put the book down and read it in an afternoon. Okay, that's a stretch. It was noon to 9:30. I think it had the best plot out of all of them too. I loved how it explained a lot of the backstory, the new characters, and all the surprises and twists at the end. Goblet of Fire was a good book, but paled a little in comparison to PoA. Them is PoA, GoF, SS/PS, CoS.

PoA is my favorite. I loved meeting Sirius Black... hes soo cool. I also liked the Boggarts and seeing the Dementors for the first time! Lupin was the first DADA teacher we've got to see that we got to see some new and cool spells. Voldemort doesn't play as big of a role in this book as in the previous two. I just think it was a good intro to some characters that may pop up again.

GoF is a very good book also... probably tied as my second fav with CoS..

PoA was my favorite - No doubt about that. Harry, Ron, and Hermione seemed to mature a lot in this book. I liked it because to me most of the things that I thought were going to happen and that are thought were true were not. I thought it was very well written and had a more complex plot then the other 3 books. GoF is good too and would definately be my second favorite because of its length alone.

I'm having a wild battle between PoA and GoF. If I read PoA, it's best. When I read GoF it's best. I can't make up my mind. GoF is the longest and the one with the most interesting end, while PoA has such great characters and introduces Lupin and Sirius. Then again, Ron and Harry fight in GoF, which I don't like (Sorry) and... I don't know. Maybe I'll decide on my deathbed. (I can see myself: lying weak and shaky "my favorite book is....")

Heh, I didn't really realize that a lot of people liked Prisoner of Azkaban :D . That is my favorite book, because we are introduced to Sirus Black and Remus Lupin, and we learn a little more of Harry's parents. This is probably the number one reason why everyone likes this books so much.

PoA. For so many reasons. First of all because of Sirius and Lupin. Then there are the dementors. We also learn so much more about James Potter and Snape himslef. Then there's the whole Oliver Wood - Quidditch Cup situation which is hilarious. Not to mention Fred and George badgering Percy about being Head Boy. This was the book were you really sensed a change in atmosphere and tone, it was palpably darker and more serious. And to top it all off there's a specatacular ending that had me absolutely floored. I just loved it!

Everything IMHO:

1. PoA-Best plot, best new characters, major plot twist.
2. OotP-Great story, but the plot was kinda all over the place.
3. GoF-The plot was even worse than OotP, it didn't flow at all. I didn't like the new characters as much as in PoA.
4. SS/PS-I'm not sure why I put this ahead of of CoS, but I guess I just like it more. I can reread this millions of times and never get tired of it.
5. CoS- I just can't reread this as much as the others. I'll skip to the end in the Chamber when things get good. I just can't figure out why I don't like it as much.

Mine is the Prisoner of Azkaban, and either the Order of the Phoenix or/and the Goblet of Fire come a good second.

I definately still favor the Prisoner of Azkaban most. It's when we are first introduced to Sirius and Remus, and it has a really great plot line. Order of the Phoenix is a close second.

I picked PoA because you get to met more characters (Siruis, Lupin, ect.) and you get to find out more about how it was like in the past.

Like a lot of people on here, my favourite book's got to be Prisoner of Azkaban. The ending was a lot better than I thought it was going to be, there was a nice twist.

I like GoF more now that I've read it a few times, but the S.P.E.W. storyline sort of got on my nerves after a while. OotP is a close second to Prisoner.

definitely Goblet of Fire.

- we discover that the magical world is more extensive than we thought it was
- we were introduced to two major wizarding events: the triwizard tornament and the quidditch world cup.

I chose Prisoner of Azkaban with Goblet of Fire in a close second. PoA introduces so many great characters (Lupin, Black, etc.) and has my favorite ending of the four.

I totally agree with you! I loved Prisoner of Azkaban and I just about cried when Harry finds out about his godfather.

Globet of Fire, definetely.

I really enjoyed reading that book because it is well written and it is very interesting.

What I liked most about that book was how JK Rowling writes the Triwizard Tournament. She makes you stick to the book and not put in down, I almost felt part of the story.

I like of course the development in the Trio´s relationship; I love the way Hermione supports Harry after his name came out of the goblet; I love the Yule Ball; I suffered when Harry and Cedric meet Voldermort and I love the way it ended.

So far, I think The Goblet of Fire is the best, followed by The Chamber of Secrets.

I voted on Prisoner of Azkaban because it is a turning point in the series. Harry is beginning to grow up and get out of the childish notion that the world is all of his perception. He begins to understand that there is more to life than what is going on with him....and what he thinks he knows.

I voted for Prisoner of Azkaban!
Goblet of Fire is a close second, though. I just like the whole plot of the book and how it introduces some important characters (which I love, I might add). It's also a turning point. It's the beginning of Voldemort's coming back, it's the beginning of Harry's growing up and maturing, in a sense.

GOF is definetly my favorite. To me, nothing beats Voldemort coming back and Harry still managing to escape despite the odds and all the Death Eaters. I also like the structure of having the triwizard tournament. Harry had to overcome so many tasks, it kept the action up. I liked POA because of Sirius and Lupin, but Harry didn't really do anything amazing (except the partonus charm).

After the release of Order of the Phoenix, i still say that Prisoner of Azkaban is the greatest... It's becuase of the fact that many are being introduced in the plot... The time turners, the dementors, Harry's godfather... And all those stuff...

And i also see that this book is the turning point of the series... Everything that we can see in future books was there... Dementors trying to kill Harry in book 5... Where did we see the dementors first it was in book 3... Sirius dying... Where did we see Sirius first... Still in book 3...

I would have to say OotP, with PoA as a close runner-up. In both of those, we learn more about Harry's family, and we meet some memorable characters.

It won't let me vote...

If I could vote, I would vote for Sorcer's Stone.

It was the book that sparked my interest in Harry Potter, and it has got to be a good book to spark my interest. All the attention to detail, like the passges about the design of the castle, or the characteristics of the characters, and the unending writings of the ubundance of food.

Sorcer's Stone was wonderful, and shall remain forever.

My second pick would be GoF because of the ending.. so perfect!

My favorite is PoA. JK wrote beyond herself in this one. You read it the first time and all of the interactions between Snape and Lupin seem to be Harry shaped. Read it again, and because we know the past, all of their conversations have new meanings. Especially the one about the map.

If you've already voted once, the poll won't register your vote again. :)

I've also modified the poll to include OotP. I suppose that shows how long this thread has been around.

Wow. PoA is winning by a landslide.

I don't know what it is about that book, but it seems to be many people's favorite, including mine. There were some brilliant plot twists in that book. It also has more emotional meaning to me than any of the others - I can't explain it. Whenever I reread that book I always get this funny feeling in my stomach, like I'm kind of happy and sad at the same time.

I voted Order of the Phoenix. I think this book revealed a lot of the held back emotions Harry was feeling, and JK portrayed them in such an awesome way. This book was really amazing, especially at the end with the scene with Dumbledore and Harry.

Goblet of Fire, most definitely. I would've voted for it just for the way it made me feel at the end - emotionally drained and not really knowing what to think.

I like how JKR started the book with the Riddle House scene. It gave it a different feel than the other books, made you feel like the danger was more serious and imminent this time. Also, with GoF and OotP, we are seeing more and more stuff happen before Harry even gets to Hogwarts, like what happened with the DEs at the World Cup, which makes me feel like JKR is saying Harry's not just playing little hero games anymore. In SS and CoS, I saw his adventures as being kind of separate from each other. I felt like there was a conclusion, that everything was over and Harry was safe when he went back to the Dursleys' for the summer. This book was different; really, I'd say it started changing in PoA. There's a lot of mounting tension in this book, and also in PoA and OotP, a feeling that this is all building up to something really huge.

And Cedric... man, when he died, I had to put my book down for a while to process everything, you know? I was so shocked and saddened by that. And then Voldemort comes back... I like the way, at the end of the ritual, JKR simply and bluntly said, "Lord Voldemort had risen again." It was much more powerful than a bunch of talk would've been. The whole graveyard scene was breathtaking and suspenseful. Everything about this book was awesome...

Dude, I've written my own novel here... I could've written a lot more, really, as I think this book is the best ever, hehe. (On a lighter note, I'd like to add that the humor in this book was great, as always in JKR's books - "Wild! I can make that old bloke down there pick his nose again...and again...and again..." and "Just then, Neville caused a slight diversion by turning into a large canary," were two of my favorites. )

I like "Prisoner of Azkaban" best because of the whole Moony, Padfoot, Prongs & Wormtail thing... it showed more of the beginnings, let's not forget the Marauder's Map, and the book was so darn exciting I stayed up so late reading it! (As far as I can remember, that was the only book I literally pored my eyes over :) ) "Chamber of Secrets" would be the next fave.
