Since this is CoS Library, I'll only quote those that I've read here.
I had really fun and enjoyable moments reading:
Daily Prophet by IndyPotter
Ron is Dying... Daily Propheter
Hogwarts Staff Meeting by Inkwolf
Rosencrabbe and Goylestern are Dumb by Hagrid442
The Secret World of Crookshanks by cathairetic
Different and unique, but I like nevertheless:
Liason by Sat0shi
Melody Aira Snow; Hogwarts Assistant! by Jessie
My favorites are:
Story of Varius Malfoy by Hagrid442
The Very Secret Diary of Ginny Weasley by Hettie Hoffleboffer
The Music Box by Hettie Hoffleboffer
Avada Kedavra by lanifiel
I would read all and I'm sure there's plenty more that's fabulously done but lately I've only manage to read those fanfics that writers ask me to read ;)
WhiteSlash
April 17th, 2003, 2:36 am

I really love Jessie's Melody Aira Snow, hehe. It's something I always check up, to make sure I haven't missed anything. I haven't read as much fanfic as I should tho... too busy writing it.
Hettie Hoffleboffer
April 22nd, 2003, 1:45 am
WOW! I still have readers here?????!!!!!!
Thank you Periwinkle Blue and Meli!
And everyone else who reads them too. Here is where my fanfic roots lie, and it's good to see that they haven't decomposed.
I promise you, there is much more where that came from!

LOL - what about the gorgeous pics of Colin (sigh) ;)
I really do need to start reading more fanfics tho (no offense Jessie) - but I don't really want to because I'd be afraid I was unconsciously borrowing from others' in my own, yaknow? I was already worried my fic would resemble Meli's great one, but it doesn't, phew!

I'm wondering about "Life of a Squib" as well, Picko... it started out so well!
Picko
April 26th, 2003, 9:16 am
It'll continue, when I don't know. I'm just pressed for time at the moment and with "Life of a Squib" it takes a while to write up the sections so it's a far slower process than "Aftermath of the Great War", which comes far more naturally for me.

I'm a new Hettie Hoffleboffer fan too, thanks to this thread!
Jessie's Melody Snow has me hooked, I love lozenger8's stuff, Picko's is great, Meli's is too, the Hogwarts staff meeting skits are hysterical... Hagrid442's story of Varius Malfoy is brilliant as well...
Basically, I came to the Library and haven't properly left, coz I found such a wealth of talented authors to read :D
Then I felt guilty for not putting anything back in and started writing my own fic to put here, and I realised that I really miss writing (probably hadn't done any creative writing for 3 years, other than a poem to my bf) and with the encouragement I received, my little fic... received a rather powerful engorgement charm! I like this place! Great writers who are also lovely peoples who encourage others!
Yay everyone! :clappy:
Jessie
May 3rd, 2003, 5:02 pm
Aww! Thank you miri! Here's your second hug tonight! 'Hooked'! Haha...aren't I proud of my 'little' ficcy... *sniff* What kinda bothers me though is that new readers might find it a tad of a bother, considering I'm up to 32 chapters already! :D But I've got you, lozzy, and everyone else who reads it! :grouphug: And UPDATE yours, miri! :D
miri
May 3rd, 2003, 5:29 pm
It's great! And the more you write the more there is to enjoy! Besides, what's wrong with a novel-length fan-fic? :D
I might well write more soon - need to tidy my room b4 my bf comes though and I don't know when that is but I'm ill so he can't get mad at me! Just if he tidies it for me I'll feel guilty...

Now its 10:50 in the morning and I have just spent a whole night reading fanfics!! It's not easy to pick up a favorite, but I guess it's "Memoirs of a dragon lover" (on www.harrypotterfanfiction.com). It's about Draco/Hermione. Well the plot is good, not that great though, but it's soooo well written!
I also like Snape romance fanfics (because its really weird seeing Snape in love!) and Remus/Hermione ones (Yes, I read one this night! Well, Hermione was 23 in it so it wasn't THAT weird). Generally I like fanfics of weird HP couples (I also read one of Harry/Voldemort's daughter!!!)
Jessie

I'm sooo ashamed! I never read any fics on this board... But I'm going to start right now!!!! You all made some great suggestions!
I really like the fanfics on this site: http://witchfics.org
They are mostly adult fics, so be warned (not too sleazy though) All female authors, and the stories are Great. My favourite on that site is Roman Holiday and it's sequels.

One fic that I can read over and over is Unthinkable Thoughts by Aidan Lynch. I can read it over and over. It opened to me up to the world of fanfic, and to slash, hence it not being on here.

The Draco Trilogy (Draco Dormiens, Draco Sinister, Draco Veritas) by Cassandra Claire, definitely. Go on to FictionAlley.org, she's one famous fanfic writer there.
Also Draco the Amazing Bouncing...Rat by Maya
Serpent's Bride by Reiko (something) I forgot
Harry Potter and the Ultimate Cliche Catalogue by (some author) boy, I'm bad at this...
YOu know, I actually read the first... three chapters of Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent, but stopped because I find it kinda boring. But since so many people are commenting that this fic is really great, I'll give it a try one of these days.

Oh yeah... I agree with ya Althea - The Draco Trilogy is great, and Draco Malfoy, the Amazing Bouncing... Rat is so funny! I tried to read the Psychic Serpent too, but didn't really enjoy it - we seem to have similar taste :)
Letsee, I also love the Paradigm of Uncertainty Series by Lori [H/H story set post-Hogwarts] on Schnoogle.com, and Outward Appearances by Jubilee on fanfiction.net. But my absolute favourite is probably Crossroads by emmyjean, it's a wonderful L/J story.

"With Quill in Trembling Hand" by Ciirce from the Sugar Quill. (Where all the best fan-fic comes from!) It won first place in the Sugar Quill's first ever comp, out of a truckload of other entrys'. And if that wasn't enough, it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it's probably the best feel-good read in I've read yet.
http://www.sugarquill.net/read.php?storyid=150&chapno=1
(Brief summary, a sub-plot from the Prisoner of Azkaban, following Neville. We get to learn about his terrifying history, and what makes the poor tyke so forgetful. Go Neville!)

I used to read this one fanfic called Time Before Tears. It talked about the Marauders, Lily and Snape. Things I really liked about that fanfic was the dynamic between the Marauders. There was a lot of mystery, and the premise of the story was very intriguing.
Hermione travells back in time and meets the previous generation. Knowing what she knows, how much info should she keep to herself, and how can she help them?

I like Picko's stories, they make me laugh, cry, scream and sympathise. He's such a good writer
You know I was reading this and nodding and agreeing until I saw who had written it - PICKO! :p
I have to say Guardian Angel is an awesome writer. Emikkime is good too. And Llopin. And FoolOnTheHill. All their fics are up there in my faves list. I don't like going onto fanfiction.net so much because as well as a lot of good material there is also an awful load of rubbish. I think every story in the Library here has merit.

My favorite fan fic is, hands down, Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent by Barb. I read the first 4 chapters of the sequel, Time of Good Intentions, but it got too depressing for me.
Other favorite fics:
The Draco Trilogy by Cassandra Claire
http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Cassandra_Claire/
Draco Malfoy the Amazing Bouncing...Rat? by Maya
http://www.schnoogle.com/authorLinks/Maya/Amazing_Bouncing_Rat/ (The title sounds dumb, but it's really an amusing fic!)

My favorite fan fiction is a collection the cliches of all the Harry Potter fan fiction. It's hilarious. However, I don't think I should post it here, because it is not forum friendly in the least. Pm me if you would really like to see it.
Another one I really like is Transi De Friod (I think that is how you spell it) It gets deppressing at some points. This again, is not forum friendly, it's "rated" pg-13.
I haven't been able to read anything in a long time because of all my school work. I really want to get to the Library to read some the cos fan fics.

I haven't really read that many 'non-ship' fics, but I plan to, and I'd eventually like to write one. The one I've liked the best so far is called 'Lyin' Eyes' by Catseye9. I'd give you the link but I'm too lazy right now. It's only up to chapter 7 so far, and I'm dying to read more.
I'm writing a fic that I think is really good for my first try. I have the first chapter posted on fictionalley, and I've gotten all good reviews...although I ended the chapter with a horrible cliff-hanger :). I have up through half of chapter 4 written.
I've never read any of the fics here. I'll have to make a note to read some of the ones everyone has mentioned!

"The Paradigm of uncertainty Trilogy" by Lori
"I am lord Voldemort" I don't know the author
"After the End" by Arabella and Zsenya
"Irresistible Poison" by Rhysenn
I'm in the middle of "Windswept Feeling" by Rhysenn and it looks pretty good so far. I Highly reccomend all the fanfics listed above.

May I add to the praise of Arabella and Zsenya's After The End. It's really, really long but also very good. Lots of funny moments.
I've spent the better part of the last few days reading that thing though, so I think I'll give my eyes a rest and not read any of the other recommended fics.

It is total fanon, so if you want cold, pms-ing, b****rd Lucius, don't look here. The Draco Triology is very good too. Extremely well written. Okay, well, I'm going to do a tentative list... here are my favourites..
Melody Aira Snow, Hogwarts Assistant - Jessie... :D I'm loving the sequel too, but this came first and was the first fanfiction piece I read from start to finish,
First Attack on a Pureblood - miri... sad, funny, beautiful, I just love Percy in this fic!
Help Me Remember - Guardian Angel... this one is so intriguing... I can't wait for the next part!
Is There No Sanctuary - Barbara Kennedy... one of the best Snape fics ever!
Aftermath of the Great War - Picko... one of his serious pieces, it is enticing, enthralling and dramatic.
Christmas Eve at the Snapes - Inkwolf... it is fall off your chair material.
I have a lot of others by the same and other authors I read and love too, but these are my favourites! :D

ermmm... here are two of my favorite's (Well, the ones that are PG-13 and under, so everyone can read them ^_^
Forever Alive (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1461086) Rated: PG-13. A beautifully written story about the Mauraders time in Hogwart's.. though it switches time periods from past to present.
Lost Souls (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1420275) Rated: PG-13. A wonderful romance. Hermione's past life memories make her realize who's she's destined for. (Hermione/Draco)
THese are great, both are from Fanfiction.net. I want to start reading some of the ones on here but I don't know where to start. Anyone have any reccomendations? ^_^ There should be a fanfiction of the week *LOL*

I can't say I've read enough to recommend favorties. I've read some so good that I have to remind myself that some scene or detail is not actually canon. I have also read some that were so stiff that it hurt to read them. I'll put up with some tough going for a while - even JKR has some sections that don't flow well - but if it goes nowhere, then you've just got to move to something else. I remember one that started out as a really cute romantic comedy but and then veered suddenly into an obsessive and demented slash piece. What a shame! I hoped it would recover but it didn't. Most of them in the COS library so far have been quite good. Look for mostly good spelling and punctuation - not only are they easier to read that way, but it shows that the author took the care to proofread his/her own stuff and polish it a bit (while typos are being cleared up, other clinkers are being fixed as well).
One excellent way I have found to enjoy fanfic is to print several out before going to the gym. While on the aerobic machines (bike, treadmill, stair-climber, etc.), you can get a lot of reading done and forget you're sweating yourself silly. Fanfic is great for this because the printed pages fit easily on the racks on the machines, the familiarity with the characters means that the jostling as you move doesn't interfere with comprehension, and even a halfway decent one makes the minutes fly by. But take several in case one or two don't grab you. Oh, and who knows, someone nice may ask what you're reading, and if they are inerested, you've got a great conversation starter, and if they aren't, they probably are not a good match anyway.

I was searching for a completely different thread and came across this--interesting! :D
Anyway, there are so many good ones! I haven't read as half as many as I'd like to, but here are some of my favorites of what I've read so far:
The Lost, by miri. Moody is such a wonderful character in this, and it has excellents portrayals of te Death Eaters. The story is sad, but very well-written. Some of it made me cry. :upset:
Snape's Morning Ritual and That Night at Number Twelve, by Loz. I know they're not her most well-known stories, but I had such fun reading them! I love how Snape's thought process is described. Parts of them are hilarious and somewhat whimsical, but it's still undoubtedly Snape who's talking. They were a ton of fun to read.
Lily's Story, Year 1, by Phoenix_Song. Lily is one of my favorites, and I like her character in this. Some characters that are adults in HP are portrayed delightfully as kids, and the Marauders are very charming, cute, and hilarious.

i, like tirwen, am a big fan of lily's story. great integration of jkr's original plot works and characters, as well as conjuring what year 1 might have been like for them. its a great read, especially if u like reading about the marauders. dont come here tho if u are looking for passionate kissing and sweaty hand holding with your ship. its only year 1! :p definitely one of the best fan fics ive read.
i also read tirwen's stuff (i.e., marauder merriment, now at an end  ) but she will have a new one coming out in the not too distant future, so you all better read it! :agree:
i used to read a lot of Picko but not so much ne more. sorry. its all still very good though!

I'd like to update my list, there are so many more fics out and around now. I sometimes feel guilty for not reading them all, but honestly, some of them aren't worth it. Like Barbara says, I don't read them if they're badly spelled or badly punctuated. And also I have a thing about line spacing. I won't read a fic if each new paragraph isn't begun with a blank line between it and the next one. Annoying :banghead:
Anyway...
Prosperine: Heir of the Phoenix
Loz: Swapping With Snape
dumbleedore: I read loads of hers, and they're all amazing.
FoolOnTheHill: Surprise Attack...dun dun DUNN! - it's funny :D
A High Price: Barbara Kennedy - and Is There No Sanctuary? is amazing as well

 Oh good! Sorry I haven't actually posted feedback on that one. I was still a piteous lurker when I started reading it. :p
You forgot to mention that it was also because you thought I was a terrible git :D I look forward to hearing your opinions :)

I love a alot of the stories, but I've come to the conclusion that I'm also addicted to some of the feedback threads. I go to the feedback forum sometimes before I go to the library.
Really, we could charge admission for the comedy show that is our feedback forums.

Thanks Slythy, and Barbara - I couldn't agree more. The "moorauders", "the metatron"... it is quite hilariously insane. Then you have indepth discussion of the basics of characterisation, heh :D It's all good stuff. I'll never forget the vampire possessed pot plant that never appeared in GEF but influenced my writing of it anyway.

Dink's Meetings is amazing, Picko's A Crazed Fan's Ramblings is pretty funny. I'm not a big fan fic guy, but Meetings singlehandedly may be making me one. It's a must read.

the feedback forums are priceless  Easily some of the funniest threads on the forums :agree:  Let's see...Loz has already mentioned the moorauders and metatron...there's the Thermometer Man, that was good, and the crates of tissues in LIYL...great stuff  not to mention the illegal trade in dragon hide gloves and cloaks, and cliff-hanging ropes...

I cannot believe that I forgot to mention slythy. *hangs head in shame*
Her fics are amazing. They blend humour, sadness, the 'aww' factor into one and still retain the HP magic. She's an awesome writer :)
I know what you mean about the feedback forums. I've filled up entire pages in them before in only one day with only one other person
How can we talk about so much rubbish for so long?

Thanks hesdead-dealwithit, I'm glad you like my story - I'd be even gladder though with feedback ;)
Thanks true_heir_of_slyth also, I wasn't aware that you were keeping up :)
I don't read too many fanfics but the ones that I particularly like are:
Meetings - Dink
Hogwarts Staff Meetings - Inkwolf
Swapping with Snape - Loz
Green Eyed Flame - Loz
Help Me Remember - Guardian Angel
Truth and Honesty - Dumbleedore

it's fun rubbish. You've gotta love it :D
yeah, I try to keep up, picko, but I really don't post feedback as often as I should  sorry. It's just I read your stuff, and when I go to post feedback, I can't think of anything that would dignify it

Thanks for the recommendations - Barbara, Loz, hesdead and Picko! :) That was nice to read.
I haven't read many fanfics.... Just started miri's Pureblood one - very good so far, although I haven't changed my settings so all the speech-marks look like &?£. I like a challenge. :D
Also love Picko's weirder ones (and I have left feedback, so don't start :p )
and Loz's "Swapping with Snape"
Slythy's "Potion Master's Daughter"
Leenielou's "Female Snape" (both stories)
Barbara's stories are always ace
I really enjoyed "Dumbledore he's evil - don't misunderstand" but I can't remember who wrote it :)
Anything that Inkwolf writes :D
The whole Snape POV thread and all its contributors, of course
My mind's gone blank. I know there are others... :frown:

Thanks dinkl - I mean, dink. :D Dumbledore - he's evil, is by PhoenixUK and kizz32. They've stopped doing it now...the last chapter was written by Kizz on holiday and so it was 10 pages long in Word. But I'm in it tee hee. As Lily. :D
Kizz was saying that he might start it again today though.

*hangs head*
I'm so sorry. Everyone, your attention please! Another of my favourite fics is Meetings by dink, because:
1) It has Snape in it
2) It's clever
3) It makes me think
4) It makes me cry
5) She makes you see such clear pictures in your head of what she describes
6) It is extremely realistic
7) She has an amazing way with words
8) The detail and thought that has gone into it deserves a rate all by itself
9) She does some mean cliffhangers
10) Once you start reading it, you get stuck in straight away. I can't call it non-putdownable because it's on a screen...how about non clickawayable?

Gah, I've only just discovered this thread! Why did no one tell me it was here? I'm annoyed - if I'd known about it I would have been able to tell loads more people I liked their stuff when I forget to leave feedback!
Ahem. Fanfics I love are:
Slythy's 'Harry Potter and the Potion Master's daughter', and it's sequel - the most remarkably funny fics that can still be mysterious, intriguing and at times, very sad. I like all your stuff Slythy, but these two really stand out.
Dumbleedore's...well, Dumbleedore's anything, but especially iLiving in Your Letter's - Major tissue warning.
leenilou's 'The Female and Snape' and 'Harry Potter and the Female Snape' - Ren. Rocks. Danger, mystery, romance, sibling quarrels, good verses evil...what more could you want?
Loz's 'Swapping with Snape' - Please. Look at the title, you know this is going to be hilarious. And it is.
Barbara Kennedy's 'Is there no sanctuary' - out of all her stuff, this is my particular favourite.
dink's 'Meetings' - I first read it on the AASS thread and have followed it ever since. It's stunning. I believe there is a very good list comprising all the reasons it's so great above.
Picko's 'Hogwarts: A Revised and Twisted History' and 'The Marauders: The Screwed up Picko Edition' - oh come one, is there anyone who manages not to laugh out loud at these? Hilarious wit and classic plot-lines...anything by the Forum whipping boy has got to be worth a read, right? :D
Guardian Angel's 'Ship of Madness' - the endless possibilities!
I'm sure there are more, but I can't remember them off the top of my head right now...I'll post them when I do.
