What exactly does anime music mean? Like the opening and ending theme songs to animes or what? Hmm... well I don't know if this is right but Fukai Mori on InuYasha (2nd ending) was an amazingly addictive song. I like Do As Infinity... Actually, InuYasha has had some pretty good music. :)

What exactly does anime music mean?
Any music written specifically for an anime. :)
I love anime music. Cowboy Bebop has excellent songs ("Chicken Bone" being my favorite :D). I also like Ghost in the Shell , RahXephon, and Record of Lodoss War music. Funny thing is, I haven't seen any of those animes.

Truth and Rinbu Revolution - Revolutionary Girl Utena
One and Scarlet - Ayashi no Ceres
Aoi Hitomi - Escaflowne
Tank! - Cowboy Bebop
The entire soundtracks to Ghost in the Shell and Mononoke Hime.
I've never seen the series, but the song Get Along from Slayers is great fun.
There is so much more, but the list would go on forever.

Wolf's Rain has some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard from anime (I believe it was done by Yoko Kanno). I plan on buying the OST sometime in the future. Escaflowne also had some wonderful music: Shadow of Doubt, First Vision (from the movie), and Aoi Hitomi are some of my favorites. I also really liked the ending themes Heart of Sword and It's Gonna Rain from Rurouni Kenshin as well as Run to You.

Wolf's Rain has absolutely beautiful music. One of my favorite J-pop artists, Maaya Sakamoto, sings "Tell Me What the Rain Knows," "Gravity," and "Cloud 9." I like "Heaven's Not Enough," too. And the instumental pieces are great as well.
Has anyone heard Uchuu no Stellvia music? it's very good as well. :D

Tank!, Cowboy Bebop
Tank! is an awsome song. I absolutly love it. Usually opening music doesn't draw me into a series- but Tank! made me really want to see Cowboy Bebop.

A couple of quick ones from Naruto:
Wind by Akeboshi(Naruto's first closing song)
Haruka Kanata by Asian Kung-fu Generation(Naruto's Second Opening)
There are other songs I have liked of the four openings and six closings Naruto has had in its 96 episodes to date. There has actually only been one song that I really haven't liked and that was the second closing, Harmonia by Rythem. And there are also many many other songs from different animes that I have enjoyed, but I can't remember them off the top of my head. I do have The Way of the Samurai song from the opening of Samurai Champloo stuck in my head at the moment.
Oh, and if you want to check out any of the Naruto songs go here (http://www.narutofan.com/index.php/content-multimedia,music). Of the two I've mentioned Wind is a very Sting like song while Haruka Kanata is a very rock oriented one. That is one thing I must say that the Japanese have going for them. When anime is brought over to the States we put sometimes put horrible songs on the openings and closings. Fortunately, Cartoon Network seems to leave the original songs in place...but I do fear what they'll have playing in front of Naruto when it licensed by Funimation or 4kids or whoever ends up doing it.

I love them in Japanese. English songs... well moving on I love the songs from Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, Magaic Knight Rayearth, and Rinbu Revolution from Rayearth. I also liked the Digimon songs from the first 2 seasons and some of the third. I didn't watch the 4th season.

I love the music from Escaflowne - the opening and closing are amazing, and BGM is fantastic.
The stuff from Yoroiden Samurai Troopers (Ronin Warriors) is also pretty good, but I prefer the vocal collections over the OP and ED themes.
Inu Yasha has good OP and ED music, mostly because it uses popular artists in Japan - such as Ayumi Hamasaki (who I adore).
Other series with good music: Gravitation, Fushigi Yuugi, Full Moon (w)o Sagashite, Hana Yori Dango, Slayers, Fruits Basket, Rurouni Kenshin, Full Metal Alchemist, Witch Hunter Robin, Groove Adventure Rave, and Orguss 02. There are others that I am sure I am forgetting.

Any Inuyasha or Kenshin songs I LOVE!! I have all the OSTs, director's cuts, Best of Inuyasha, and Songs Vol 1 and 2. I love "Run to You" Sano's instrumental theme, "Ippatsu Yarou" Sano's vocal image song, "Owarinai Yume" by Aikawa Nanase(the 3rd Inuyasha opening), and One Day, One Dream (inuyasha 5th opening) by Tcky and Tsubasa(from v6), and "Hitori no Yorou" from GTO. Those are my absolute favorites but I listen to all of them all the time!!

.hack's music is wonderful. There are some that are kinda boring, IMO, but it's all good. Key of the Twilight from .hack is by far my favorite.
Tank! is excellent. I don't think I've met many people that don't like it.
Hemesphere (I don't remember where that one is from) is also a favorite of mine.

Ah, I love this song. I really like the ending theme as well, it starts with a K but for some reason I'm drawing a blank.
I just recentely watched the movie Akira and it has some very interesting music in it. I loved how strange it sounded, fit perfectly with the pictures flashing across screen. Armitage-Polymatrix has some really good music in it as well, especially the opening theme.

HarryPotter, I like your taste, but it's Megumi Hayashibara that sings Give a Reason. You were probably thinking of Ayumi Hamasaki, who sang Dearest from Inuyasha. To clear things up on Slayers song confusion:
Slayers:
OP theme: Get Along, Try Again
ED theme: Kujikenaikara! - Raethul, I think this is the one you mentioned...
Slayers NEXT:
OP theme: Give a Reason
ED theme: Jama wa Sasenai
Slayers TRY:
OP theme: Breeze
ED theme: Don't Be Discouraged

I love that one, I'm not familiar with the rest though. I have soundtracks for Record of Lodoss Wars and El Hazard, they have some great tracks. Sakamoto Maaya did a lot of the RoLW tunes - check her out if you like anime music! She has a very sultry voice, not like the squeaky cute voice from others, (although that isn't a bad thing, necessarily - the closing tune for El Hazard: The Magnificant World, for example, is soooo cute :) ("Back in Love")
I like the Soultaker and Excel Saga themes a lot too :)

My favorite is Serenade from Fruits Basket. (That's the song they played in the background at the end of the episode where the Fan Club girls infiltrated Hanajima's house, and also the piano music played at the end of the second-to-last episode, after Hana and Uo met Tohru in the graveyard and she staggered off by herself in the rain.) And I love the theme song. I like a lot of the background music, too, though I wish Ayame's wierd little bagpipe march had been on the Memory for You CD.
A lot of the music from .hack//SIGN was beautiful (except I hated the theme song)
I loved the theme from the first season of Ranma 1/2! (That series, and Invader Zim, are two DVD's where I watched the opening credits for every episode, because the music and graphics were so much fun!)
And I liked the end-credits song from Ruin Explorers.
And I wouldn't say I liked it, but that 'Lucille' song from Pet Shop of Horrors has a way of lodging in your brain and playing itself at you. NOOOO, make it stop!

How come no one has mentioned the Cardcaptor Sakura music? On first listen you will think the songs suck. But if you listen to them enough and love the show then you will be singing them for months. My favs are:
Platina (Third Opening - this seriously rocks)
Toi No Machide (Second Opening)
Catch You Catch Me (First Opening)
I have all 8 albums downloaded on my PC. The only song on all the albums I don't like is Fruit Candy (the third closing song). It just sucks and makes no sense.

I've heard one song from Cardcaptor Sakura which I like a lot, called Yoru No Uta. It's delightfully sweet. I've heard before now that CCS has really catchy music, but I've never watched the series and don't know what specifically is any good. It's much the same with everything else, I'm afraid. I greatly appreciate anime in general, but haven't seen very much of it, so I don't know where to start and what to look for. What I've heard is limited to what I stumble across when I'm browsing. It's really helpful to see all these favorites, it provides a solid start. :)
I did hear one from Fruits Basket which was nice, called Sorairo, I think. There's also Momiji's song from that same series (I'm not sure if it's an official song or not). :D It's one of those tunes which, like it or not, you can't get out of your head. Yuhi you yamani, teru-teru Momiji. . .

In my opinion, every song in Cowboy Bebop is good but my two favourite are "Stray Dog Strut" and "Cats on Mars". Yoko Kanno is a genius.
I also like the music in .hack//SIGN. I don't know who composed the music though since I don't have the DVDs at home. A friend of mine has the limited edition DVDs and there is a feature where you can watch the episode with just the music.

So many good anime songs, many of them on my mp3 list. I like (in no particular order):
Furi Kuri - Basically, all the songs on the OST's
Neon Genesis Evangelion - Thesis of a Cruel Angel (I even have this as a ringtone!)
the opening theme of Soul Taker
the Big O - Big O op theme, and forever.. end theme, and the bgm's stoning and stand a chance.
Gatekeepers 21 - Ima, Egao ga Areba (now, if there is a smile) and Haoto.
X - eX dream, Secret Sorrow, and the bgm Destiny and There Is Only One Future.
Full Metal Alchemist - READY STEADY GO!
Snow Fairy Sugar - Sugar Baby Love, it's just so darn cute, how can you not like it? It actually reminds me of an ABBA song the way the vocalizations are used.
Angelic Layer - Be my Angel, The Starry Sky, and Justice.
Chobits - Raison d'etre, I Hear You Everywhere.
ROD the TV - the opening theme and Moments in the Sun.
Azumanga Daioh - Soramimi cake (ear-playing-tricks cake) and Raspberry Heaven
Fruits Basket - For Fruits Basket, Chiisana Inori (small prayer), Serenade, and Teru Teru Momiji (come out come out Momiji).
DNAngel - Byakuya ~true light~, Caged Bird and Hearts.
Cowboy Bebop - Tank!, the Real Folk Blues, Cosmic Dare, and Rain.
Inuyasha - Change the World, My Will, I Am, Fukai Mori (deep forest) and the most of the bgm's.
CardCaptor Sakura - I like all of them, my fav's are Catch You Catch Me, Groovy, Purachina (Platinum), Tooi Kono Machi de (in this distant town) from the 1st movie and Ashita e no Melody (Melody of Tomorrow) from the 2nd movie.
whew.. thats quite a bit. Oh and BTW, if you have internet radio and like anime or jpop/jrock music this (http://kawaii-radio.net/) is a good station, I think.

You know, I couldn't really make a list for this topic. I like quite a few "anime themes" but most of what I like are by differnt Japanese artists in general, but I'll list some and try to come up with ten.
In no particular order:
01. MOVE - DOGFIGHT (Initial D Fourth Stage opening) *Notes I'm a big fan of this group*
02. Do As Infinity - Shinjitsu no Uta (Inuyasha ending 5) *Notes I'm a big fan of this group*
03. Ali Project - KOPPERIA no Hitsugi (Noir opening; I finally have the show now, going to give it a watch) ^_^
04. See-Saw - Obsession (.hack//SIGN & .hack//GIFT opening)
05. The Seatbelts - TANK! (Cowboy Bebop's opening)
06. Ishida Yoko - White Destiny (Shin Shirayukihime Densetsu Pretear opening)
07. Kuraki Mai - Always (Detective Conan ending 12)
08. Velvet Garden - Feel Your Heart (Detective Conan Op 3)
09. Deen - Hitori Janai (Dragon Ball GT ending 1)
10. Namie Amuro - Come (Inuyasha ending 7) *Notes I'm a big fan of hers*
I purposely avoided any Sakamoto Maaya songs, because it probably would've taken all ten slots. lol I so love her music, Anime and non-anime songs, and Yoko Kanno composes some of her music as well.
The opening theme of Slayers Next "Ayumi Hayashibara - Give A Reason" is definitely one of my favourite Anime songs... Her name is Megumi, not Ayumi. You must be thinking of Hamasaki Ayumi. That aside, yeah, Hayashibara Megumi does have nice songs, and has been around for a long time. Earliest thing I've seen by her is from the early 90s.
I love Anime Music, but unfortunately, I only have Direct access to Digimon songs.
Wada Kouji and AiM are my favorite J-pop artists
'Fire' 'Kaze' 'Himawari' 'Ashita wa atashi no kaze ga fuku' and 'Sun Goes down' are my favorite songs by those artists.Cool, for Digimon, I have every single single that AiM and Wada Kouji did for the series. Haven't heard them all in a while. ^_^
Favs for me by them consist of (and I'm not limiting it to just Digimon stuff, just most):
Wada Kouji - Butter-Fly
Wada Kouji - Egao
Wada Kouji - Kaze
Wada Kouji - FIRE!!
Wada Kouji - Innocent~Mujaki na mama de~
Wada Kouji - Target~Akai Shougeki~
Wada Kouji - Boku wa Boku Datte
Maeda Ai - Keep On
Maeda Ai - On the Hill~Kaze wo Kanjite~
Maeda Ai - Like A Candle
AiM - Ashita wa Atashi no Kaze ga Fuku
AiM - Itsumo Itsu demo
AiM - Eien no Kagayaki
AiM - Tenshi no Inori
AiM - Party
AiM - Sun Goes Down
AiM - Find Out
AiM - Fragile Heart
AiM - Days~Aijou to Nichijou~
AiM - Himawari
AiM - Yuuhi no Yakusoku
AiM - My Place
AiM - Resolution
For the record, up until 2001, AiM was going by her real name "Maeda Ai", but changed to using her stage name "AiM" to reduce confusion with the other singer/model, Maeda Ai. She also goes by her "real name" when voice acting.
BTW, dows anyone know where I can get access to other anime songs? Especially (but not restricted to) CCS, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, .hack & Yu-Gi-oh?*Points to self* :p
That aside, you could more than likely go to different message boards and request some things.
Edit: Wait!!! You're from WtW, aren't you!!

I don't know to much about bands and names of songs (Mostly due to the fact that I don't have cable or satilite) but I love the theme songs of Shaman King and One Peice and of what I can remember of Card Captures and the Inuyasha songs.

Practacly anything by Yoko Kanno is good
I'll second that. Heck, I stay tunned to watch the opening credits of Stand Alone Complex just so I can hear the opening theme Inner Universe. Every anime I've seen in which she's done the soundtrack it just amazing...Wolf's Rain, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop! She can do no wrong in my opinion!
Also, the opening theme to Fullmetal Alchemist (one of them anyway) Ready, Steady, Go is horribly catchy! It always gets stuck in my head after I listen to it...love it!

Last year, they wre in New York and I missed out on seeing it because I went to NY the weekend before they came. :upset:
You know, for FMA, I prefer the first opening (Melissa by Porno Graffiti) to the second opening (Ready Steady Go). Both songs are nice, though. My friend is a big L'arc~en~Ciel fan, and was really upset that he couldn't see them perform when they came to the states last year. For him, hopefully, they'll come back this year.

Oh my assistant housemaster gave me a J-Pop CD for Christmas. The artist is TM Revolution. He does songs for anime. Anyone hear of him? :tu:
His songs are most;y rock and very upbeat.

His songs are most;y rock and very upbeat.Yeah, I've heard of TM Revolution, but I've only heard one song by him. I also was told that his PVs (Promotional Videos/Music Videos) are dull, but I've yet to see one to form an opinion myself for him.
<~~~Japanese music freak. :p
I seem to be stuck on Japanese music in general...stuff outside of anime so I know a bit about some of these artists and stuff. ^^

I'm fond of listening to anime musics.. specially those who are like "astig" (I dont know how do you call it in english) but I think we look funny cause we never understand its meaning. and sometimes if you try to see its translations they look funny :p

KNo problemo. Do As Infinity is a really nice group, though. I really enjoy their songs. Can't wait to somehow manage to get their album that's coming out next month. It's been a while since they've released an original one, not compilation albums (which last year seemed to consist of).
I enjoyed their last two singles as well, Rakuen (December 2004) and For the Future (just came out last week). Just hated the fact they were more so maxi-singles...

Yeah, so I looked all through this thread and didn't find it, but it fits here...
Does anyone listen to Japan-A-Radio? I found it on iTunes recently and it's great. They play anime and J-Pop. I've been listening to it for the past hour, it's really good. I was just curious if anybody else knew of this station. IF not, please check it out.
And to add, my favorite anime music is probably the music from Cowboy Bebop. All of it is great, great selection of blues and jazz. I also like the season 3 opening from Naruto a lot. Inuyasha soundtrack is great. Love the opening to Chobits and the opening and closing of Haibane Renmei. Those are the ones off the top of my head right now.

I have the music to Rurouni Kenshin. I love it that they all just sing in Japanese.
