View Full Version : Which animal would you choose...?
VidelNC

If you were a student at Hogwarts, which animal would you bring with you?
You can choose between:
- an owl
- a cat
- a rat
- a toad
I would most definately choose an owl. Not only because they're beautiful and all, but they can come in very handy for your mail and stuff.

I'd bring an owl, they are the most fun!

Unless I'm much mistaken, this thread should be in The Common Room forum. Could any mod move it?
I'd personally choose an owl.:)

I can't decide between a cat and an owl.

Before this thread is moved, I'll have my say:
If I had to choose between those animals, I'd pick an owl. Not only are they beautiful, but their good hunters and flyers, plus they are wonderful birds of prey and can deliver your mail more effciently.

I'd definatly go for a cat. I like them and they like me! Honestly I have a strange connection with them. :??:

December 24th, 2002, 5:31 am
I'd rather have a cat, but an owl would probably be of more use.
I don't suppose there's any way I can put a charm on my cat so it'll fly?

A cat definately. I currently have three.

Definately an owl, they are so useful! Plus I don't like cats and rats and toads aren't really good for much!

December 27th, 2002, 9:20 am
I hate birds (I am scared of them) and cats AND rats but I think toads and frogs are kind of cute plus Neville has one and Neville is the BEST!!!!!! So yeah I would have a toad for sure.

IIIIIIII, because I love bending rules.... would bring a ferret.

December 30th, 2002, 7:15 pm
Hmm... its my understanding that the school cares for owls (in the owlery) but other pets have to be cared for by the owner. So I guess I'd bring an owl--less work and it would send messages. A cat would be nice, but he/she would probably die.

December 30th, 2002, 7:43 pm
I think an owl would be more useful so that's what I would bring. Besides, I'm allergic to cats. :p

I'd take a rat. Only for being social; nobody mentioned them before....
I'm going to make a new organisation: CFTSUAUFR:
Can anybody guess what it means? Its "Care for the stupid ugly annoying useless fat rats". Stupid I know, just like Hermiones....
Nah, I'd take my cat. He's already 16 jears old and I love him... BTW, he's called Bärchi.

December 31st, 2002, 7:10 pm
It's between a rat and an owl. I would take an owl, because it would be handy for mail. A rat, because not only do I have one (I had two, but one died last night) in real life, but they make great pets and are so cute and loyal. So, I can't really choose.

Owl... I hate cats, and what good is a toad or rat? They waste your money on food, and they will die quickly.. owls are helpful and sooo pretty.... But if I could pick any animal, I'd choose a phoenix (cause they are cool) or a dog, cause I love dogs! Or a snake... Mann, animals are cool... maybe even a leopard... they are beautiful (ill shut up now)

An Owl for me. I used to own one when I were a kid. I live closed to the grass field where they lived (They're gone now, someone build a Condo over it). I found an injured owl so, I took care of it.

April 9th, 2003, 1:53 pm
An owl ;) And I'd call her Tweetums.
I thought this was going to be a "what animal would you transfigure into" - well - the answer's still the same :) Except for the name - obviously I'd prefer to be called Loz, lol.

I'm not sure if we would be able to bring dogs so I would take an owl. Like some other people said they are really handy for your mail and they seem really faithful and loyal

I would want a snake, then i could wear it on my arm and freak people out:evil:, but if I couldn't then id want an owl, a nice snowy owl:D

April 9th, 2003, 10:32 pm
Owls aren't really very smart (I am a bird person but wouldn't choose an owl as a companion animal)or incredible social, but the wizarding owls seem different-smart and interactive-so maybe an owl. A northern Hawk Owl would be ool and big enough to handle packages.

An owl. They seem quite impressive so far. But if there was more choices to chose from, I might change my mind.
And they're nocturnal. I like nocturnal animals.

April 10th, 2003, 2:25 pm
An owl. They are much cleverer than the other animals and they are really useful for sending mail too.

*Alien chant* Owl, owl, owl, owl, owl, owl, owl....
I'd love a snowy white one with light blue eyes. I'd call her Aurora. Aurora's also the name of the owl that belongs to the main character in my fanfic. I dunno...I just like that name & I think it fits.
But if I could pick one that WASN'T listed...I'd bring a white tiger or a flying horse! :p Just kidding, although I'd like to. Hey wait...let's skip the logicals (where would u keep them, what if they ate the students, u could get expelled, etc) & dream a little. I WOULD bring either a white tiger CUB or a white winged horse. Or maybe just a hamster. :p

April 10th, 2003, 6:30 pm
I think I'll jump on the band wagon and say Owl. :) It would just see, easier and all. You wouldn't have to sneak into the owl room late at night to deliever a owl. You can just have your owl next to your bed. Plus...your owl can be very trustworthy. :)

April 18th, 2003, 12:20 am
An owl wopuld be cool but i think it would be kind of fun to have a snake or something different or as the weasly's friend had (i cant remeber his name) had a giant spider. Or a cat would be pretty cool or how about a bat? hmmm
Shadowmoon
April 18th, 2003, 7:30 pm
I would bring a black cat with green eyes. Kind of cliche for a witch, but oh well! I love how mysterious and independent cats are, as well as being soft cuddly. An owl would be nice for mail, but as Auri Demeer said, the school has owls for students to use. So I'd definitely choose a cat.
Sredni Vashtar
April 18th, 2003, 8:19 pm
I would have an owl. But not just any old owl. I'd want a specific species, because owls aren't all the same.
Here are a list of candidates:

I would choose an owl, they're the most useful, although a cat would be nice too.
I think I'd call it Fujur and it would be a Dusky Eagle.
And that idea of choosing a ferret is fantastic! We all know how well they bounce on Hogwarts walls.

defenately an Owl! besides the plus side of owl post, they are so cute! I fell in love with Hedwig nibbling at his cage at the beginning of Chamber of Secrets, it was so cute! Plus they woul probably make very faithfull pets!

I would definately bring an owl to Hogwarts- I could then receive the Daily Prophet every day and could send messages at any time without using the school owls. Maybe my second choice would be a cat, but I know for sure I wouldn't bring a toad.

If I remember correctly from the Magical Menagerie in Diagon Alley, there was a jewel-encrusted tortoise. I'd bring him, and name him Bertolucci. We would spend many fine nights by the fire in the common-room. Not too close though, we wouldn't want to have to make turtle soup.

Well, if I had to go strictyl by the rules, I would bring an owl b/c it seems a whole lot useful than a toad or cat. And I agree with Gandalf, I would want it to be a barn owl too.
But if I could choose to bring any animal, I would bring a minature unicorn, but I bet Dumbledore would make it live in the forest with the rest of the unicorns. At least Hagrid can look after it.
I'm also fond of dogs, so if there was a way to get a Mini-Fluffy, then that's what I would take too! It's a good thing it has 3 heads and one tail. I'd hate to walk around with 3 pooper scoopers!

He-he, I always had a certain affinity with that tortoise, as brief as his mention is. I always fancied he was named Socrates, but hey, being named after a notorius film director can't be all bad!
I would most definitely bring my Belgian Hare, wonderful magical creature that he is. :) Hares have a long association with witchcraft and the occult dontchaknow! (Which incidently is how the hares in Brian Jaques Redwall series talk!)

I have to agree with the majority of the people who chose to have an owl. The owl is an animal that is the most useful at Hogwarts. You can send so many letters using it and have letters reach you wherever you are. An owl will always find you no matter what! An owl would definately be the best pet to have!!!

Perhaps I'd take a barn owl - they seem like nice birds, and it would be so useful being able to send letters and so forth whenever I liked. An enormous barn owl named Eric. But since I'm really dreadful at writing letters to people - I always forget - I might not get enough use out of poor Eric. He'd get all bored... And if I did send him on deliveries, I'd spend too much time worrying about him getting hurt/caught in a storm/eloping with a lady owl.
Maybe I'd be better off going for a cat - a nice big splotchy coloured one called Jonathon, or perhaps Torquil. Do you think Hogwarts provide premium cat food? :D And would the house elves feed him for me? Because I really don't like looking at cat food... Maybe I could just take Jonathon/Torquil down to dinner and he could have a bit of whatever I had! :D

I am a cat person generally and currently have a very timid black cat. Lots of cat and owl ornaments here, cat mouse mat and owl mug placer on my desk too.
But I do think the owl would be far more useful, sending messages and such. Think I would have to choose that one for a pet at Hogwarts and leave the cat at home.
Don't like toads at all and although I don't mind rats (used to keep hampsters and gerbils and the like) I don't think that they make for the most interesting of pets to take to a school.

I would pick an owl b/c they r dead useful and they r beautiful. I would get an Eagle owl. :)

I'd be torn between a cat and an owl. Owls are pretty handy, but they have to stay in the Owlery and you'd never see them, plus there are school owls you can use. And if you're from a wizarding family, your family probably has an owl to send mail with. Cats are loyal and furry and cute, and you can keep them with you all the time. But they're not too handy.
Judging from the evidence, I think I'd have to go with.... CAT!

I would probably choose a cat, but an owl would be nice too. I have always adored cats, and someday I hope to own a black cat with green eyes (the stereotypical witch's cat!) I also have a lot in common with cats, and I love the mysterious aura that surrounds them. They are very independent, curious, and clever, not to mention adorable! So that would probably be my choice.

I will agree with you I think that an owl will be useful. So my choice would obviously be an owl. Because they are very beautiful and because hey this way you can ensure no one reads your mail. LoL, :p

An owl is very useful, and extremely practicle, and that would make the most sense to bring, but since when have I ever gone for the useful and practicle item. I'm all for flash and nice looking, and I wuv itty-bitty kitties. I'd have to go with the cat :)

I would bring a cat so I would have something that would curl up against my back when I'm sleeping. I would borrow someone else's owl if I needed one.

Owl. They are beautiful and very useful. And I don't like cats, rats and toads

I would definitly bring an owl! Like Hagird said in PS they're dead useful. However, if I was alowd I think I'd rather have a different bird of prey like a hawk or a falcon deliver my mail. I like cats as well although I like to observe them rather than have one as a pet because I always get the impression that cats find people annoying. And besides, I'm allergic to cats and I'd probably spend all of my Hogwarts career having particularly violent sneeze attacks.

An auburn owl. Named Artemis. What´s the special quality of a toad, anyway? I mean an owl delivers mail, a cat you can at least pet but what use would it be to bring a toad?

I would definitely choose an owl... although cats rule as well

Well, i'd want to bring my rat (he's such a cutie!) but i'd have to take the cage and a load of food and bedding so i'd leave him here with my sis and buy a B-E-A-utiful barn owl to take with me.

If I could only choose between the four, then I'd bring an owl.
But, I wouldn't limit myself to that rule. I'd sneak in a stagbeetle just for a pet I could keep around with me conveiniently.

I would choose an Owl. They just seem like a cool pet to have, plus they are very useful with delivering your mail.

I'm a cat person totally but I guess I would choose an owl to take to school b/c of their usefulness in carrying messages and packages. I would definitely have several cats at home though. :)

I would get an owl for practical purposes of the mail. I'd love one like Harry's! I think it might be interesting to bring along a cat, if it was half-kneazle like Crookshanks.

Owl because they can deliver messages and are usually out of your way...
Dead Star
July 11th, 2004, 2:59 am
A cat, they're more pet-like. Especially if it would be like Crookshanks, since Kneazles are very intelligent. I could just use one of the school owls if I needed to. But the only bad part is if I would need to send anything by owl post during the summer =\ Unless I was part of a wizarding family, so there's be an owl in the house anyway. Heh, I think like Harry too much.

This is tough for me because I adore cats, but I'd want to bring an owl because they can deliver your mail, and they seem really neat, and I've never owned a bird before and I'd like to have one... but a cat you can cuddle with, and a half-kneazle like Crookshanks would be cool... maybe I'd just bring my cat I have now. I swear he's half kneazle anyway. Never liked my ex and he ended up being right. :rotfl:

I would have a cat, preferably part kneazle like Crookshanks. I'm not sure what I would name it though.
I forgot that I planned on naming my next cat "Easter". It's from the song Crucify by Tori Amos that says, "I got a cat named Easter..."

I think an owl as it is indeed very usefull for mail and all. Can it than be an eagle, as that is still a bird. I'd like the one like Malfoy has that can carry a lot of waite and all.
I don't want the owl to be annoying like Pigwidgeon or as stupid as Erl, they're cute, but both a bit clumbsy.

August 17th, 2004, 4:27 pm
Well, let's see, I'd rather have a dog, but that's out so....A cat, can't have one of those, I'm allergic. Rat and toad, out of style and EW. So that leaves owl. I'd want an owl that could carry alot of weight as well, although Pig is awfuly cute. But if allergies didn't play a part, I'd want a cat, because it could stay in the room with me, more like a companion.

I'd be a cat, mainly because I love cats, I have 3 of my own, and you can sit and watch them for hours. people seem to think they just sleep all day, well they do but theres more to them than that, because they are assosiated with witches being their familiars and all, and egyptians used to worship them, so i think we underestimate them alot !

I agree with finch, we should all bring ferrets. I had a ferret. It's name was Princess. It was white with unnaturally red eyes. I had to sell it because we got my two evil cats. Oh and by the way I have a real live pet owl. :slyth:

An owl because they are useful

August 18th, 2004, 8:32 pm
I would imagine having an owl would be useful especially during the summer. Having letters being sent to your friends ...or to those in particular who don't know how to use a telephone or send letters by regular mail. But I suppose if I was in school I could always just go to the owlery. If I had my own I wouldn't like the idea of cleaning up after their droppings and leftover meals day after day. Not to mention when they shake their feathers all that feather dandruff fly's everywhere.
I would rather have a cat thank you very much. :)

I would choose a cat cause I love cats and you can pet a cat and a cat does not sleep in the owlery so you can see him quite often.
Harry does not seems to see Hedwige oftently, in fact just for the post , which mean never ...(and the hollidays... right). And he used other owl quite a lot.

Why can't ypu bring a dog. I would have to break the rules and bring a puppy. Dogs are awesome!!!
Nymph im pretty sure that it said that Hedwig would come down for breakfast even without mail occasionally and harry would give her food and drinks.
Still Dogs are awesome i would get me a nice blonde lab and he could sleep on the end of my bed. Then he could chase all of the cats away HAHAHA
