Fahrenheit 9/11 is out of the running. Moore decided to release it to DVD in October, so it doesn't qualify anymore.

It's out of the running in the Best Documentary Feature category but it's eligible for all the other categories including Best Picture.

That's quite a list! Come on Johnny Depp and Kate Winslett! I hope Finding Neverland and Eternal Sunshine do well. I would quite like Imelda Staunton to win (she seems to be doing awfully well these days), and there seems to be a big buzz around Jamie Foxx these days.

Uma Thurman did a very good job in Kill Bill II! (I saw the movie on an airplane) It was a bloody movie, but she did it quite good...

Is POA nominated?
I think "Ray" will probably get some good awards. Haven't seen the movie. But movies like that usually get good awards.

Yeah, I loved ESOTSM too...it was a great movie, so far, my choice for best film of the year (and a dead lock for original screenplay). I have heard great things about Hotel Rwanda though, and plan to see it, and it might knock of ESOTSM for the top. Don Cheadle is a really good actor, and Hotel Rwanda sets him up for a moving performance, so he looks like a good choice of Best Actor, but I haven't seen it, so I shouldn't make assumptions...good list too remusjlupin :)

I hope Natalie Portman gets nominated for her role in Closer, loved that flick.
Also I hope Eternal Sunshine gets lots of nominations. :tu:
And... if Uma gets a nomination (she so deserves the award), I'll be very happy. :rotfl:

A lot of people have Don Cheadle as a 'dark horse' for best actor in 'Hotel Rwanda', but I thought he was absolutely brilliant, and in my mind, a dead lock for best actor (of course I don't get to decide who wins :))...stirring movie; go see it if you haven't yet.

And the nominees are:
Best Foreign Language Film of the Year
Untergang, Der - Oliver Hirschbiegel (Germany)
Even though it's hard to judge since I don't know any of the other movies in this category I hope "der Untergang" wins. I'm not sure if this movie is shown in non German speaking countries, but if so and you have an interest in history especially the end of WW2 you must dash to the movies and watch it. The actors are terrific (especially the one playing Hitler, it was really creepy to watch him), it's very historically accurate and shows the madness within the system in the last few weeks of the Nazi terror regime. I definitely hope that movie wins!!!

I was so dissapointed that "The Passion of The Christ" wasn't nominated. It was beautiful. Oh well I would have been really ticked if farenheit 9/11 had been nominated, and it wasn't so thats good. You can't have everything in life. I hope Jamie Foxx wins, he was brilliant, but Don Cheadle was also wonderful. For anyone who's old enough to handle the content, Hotel Rwanda was unbelievable. It needs to be seen to be understood, a very important movie.

I think Hilary Swank definately deserves an Oscar for her performance in Million Dollar Baby. And Clint Eastwood should definately get best director
Oh and in case you didn't notice, I love that film! :D

Some quick immediate reactions --
Ray shouldn't have gotten a best picture nomination; it should have gone to Hotel Rwanda. Ray was not bad, and Jamie Foxx's performance was good, but it was not a great movie overall.
Paul Giamatti should have been nominated over Clint Eastwood for Best Actor. Clint was, deservingly, nominated for director, and Million Dollar Baby definitely deserves a Best Picture nomination, but while Eastwood's performance was competant, I don't think it was Oscar-worthy.
I am glad to see that Before Sunset was nominated for Adapted Screenplay. It was a great movie that relied very heavilly on the screenplay, which was just brilliant. It won't win, but I'm very happy it was nominated.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban should have been nominated in either the Art Direction or Costume Design categories (but not both). While the movie does not deserve any of the big nominations, I do think the Production Design was quite good and deserves a nomination (although not a win).
I was so dissapointed that "The Passion of The Christ" wasn't nominated. It was beautiful.
It was nominated -- Cinematography, Makeup, and Score. What are you suggesting it should have been nominated for? I think that the "big" categories it came closest to being worthy of a nomination in were director and supporting actress (Maia Morgenstren), although I feel that neither of these were good enough. As for Picture and Actor, I really don't think Passion was in the same league as the films nominated. It was not a bad movie, but it wasn't brilliant either.
