hey guys,
So whats your favourite Ootp chapter and why? Mine would undoubtedly be "Snape's worst memory", firstly because i've always wanted to learn a bit more about the marauders(mainly, sirius and james) and secondly, because, when i looked at the chapter title, i was like, "hmmm..what could possibly be snape's worst memory?" so what is your favourite Ootp chapter and why?

Note to mods: Sorry if this has been discussed before. i did a search and i did find similar threads, such as "what is your favourite chapter?" and "what is your favourite opening chapter?", but they talk about all the hp books, in general. My thread is solely about your favourite Ootp chapter. However, i apologise if i did a mistake in searching. please feel free to do whatever u feel is appropriate with this thread.

It'd have to be Chapter 34, Department of Mysteries, I was so interested in finding out what was in there!!

Easy Careers advice, a comical chapter for me personally. Best bit is Fred and Georges departure. Fantastic!!! :p

"Snape's worst memory" ! Because I'm also a Marauders fan

There are many other great chapters too, like "Dudley Demented" (love seeing Harry losing his temper  ), "The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black" (the family tree fascinates me), "Career Advice" (Gred and Forge!), "Fight and Flight" (centaur, giant, and the downfall of Dolores :rotfl: ), "The Only One He Ever Feared" (the battle is breathtaking!)...

I can go on and on, 'cause OP is such an amazing book! Definitely the best so far in the series...dark, tense, and Oh so funny! The only chapter I don't care too much about is "Hagrid's Tale," a bit too long but still interesting.

"Snape's Worst Memory" and "The Eye of the Snake"

The second last chapter when DD gives the talk to Harry. It's so emotional and i guess i like it because for the first time we see a weakness in DD and it helped me connect with him more. We sort of see that he's not up there on a pedestal on his own. I mean i still admire him but now he's sort of more on level with us weak mortals. :) It's always easier to like with a hero who has weaknesses too.

The Centaur and the Sneak, there's a whole lot happening and DD makes his famous exit, so I'd vote for that chapter.

I have two. "Career Advise" and "Snape worst memory". The first time I read these chapters, I reread them because I aboslutly loved them.

My favourite chapter is probably Snape's Worst Memory. It was really cool how we got to see the Marauders in their Hogwarts days. I have reread this chapter quite a few times now. :D

I also liked The Department of Mysteries and The Centaur and the Sneak - these two chapters have a lot of action happening in them - great! And obviously Carrer's Advice as well - Fred and George's exit is just so awesome! (sorry, I really can't choose just one! :p)

I like Christmas On The Closed Ward. I was eager to see what St Mungos was like.

That and Careers Advice, absolutely brilliant.

Yeah, that one is interesting and i think it is true. There is probably something the DE's didn't want hin to know, but why didn't they just kill him?

evil_by_nature_dm
February 6th, 2005, 1:12 am
thats the only problem i have with that theory.... i thought the memory charm was put on him because he was present at his parents' torture, but if voldemort and the death eaters are so ruthless, obviously they wouldnt have minded just finishing him off.

i also think nevilles granny might be purposely keeping neville from reaching his full potential. Remember what Ollivander said about using someone elses wand? A wand never produces the maximum result if it is used by someone other than the original owner it was meant for. Well, Granny gave Neville his fathers wand to protect him from the fate his parents met.

Dudley Demented is my favourite. The very last bit where Mrs Figg tells Harry not to put his wand away made my mouth gape open the first time I read it.

My favorite is during Christmas at Grimmauld Place. I love when Sirius goes around all cheery and happy!!!
However, I also like when Dumbledore talks to Harry at the end. We learn so much about what was going on in that chapter.

My favorite chapter from OotP is chapter 29 - Career Advice. Not only is the whole McGonagall/Umbridge scene funny but I just love the ending with Fred and George - that was their mischief-making moment of glory. I just loved the part with Peeves saluting them... that whole scene just puts a smile on my face.

Hmm. That's a toughy. I think The Department of Mysteries. Either that or Christmas at St. Mugoes. Career Advice is good as well.

As soon as the group arrives at the Department of Mysteries the book goes from excellent to utter perfection through the end of the novel. When DD meets Harry in his office and tries to explain calmly while Harry rips into him, and finally when Harry is wandering around the grounds of Hogwarts in a distracted blur trying to sort things out. I was just mad that it ended right in a storm of emotions and that we're left waiting to hear Harry tell his friends about the prophesy-nevermind, I liked that too!

i loved the whole **** book but if i must choose id have to say i loved dudley demented, and i also LOVED when fred and george left, but when i read the centuar and the sneak i got a tingly feeling in my spin when dumbledore said " it seems you think i will be, what is the expression? coming quietly well cornilus you are mistaken" when i read that chapter i put down the book and just stared at the wall for 5 mintues whispering genis, genius, genius

"Dudley Demented" is a very good start to OOTP and is one of my favourites. It's when things really start to disrupt Harrys life. :p

I also like the chapter about careers, it's one of the more "lighter reading" chapters.
It's also when it becomes clear how annoying and mean Umbridge is!

What if it wasn't Des who put the charm on him, but Snape? At that time he was already on DDs side. That woulkd explain why the Boggart!Snape reached into his robes before Neville shouted Riddiculus. And also why Snape tried to dissuade Lupin letting Neville face the boggart, even trying to poison the boy's toad in the effort.

My favourite chapter was Occulmency or Snape's Worst Memory. Both are very interesting and you get to learn more about Snape! Also in Occulmency you get a few of Harry's memorys too, and I really wanted to find out how Snape reacted to Harry's sad memories. Unfortunalty it was in his usual sarcastic and cruel self.

I think "The Centaur and the Sneak" is my favorite, just because the part in Dumbledore's office is so intense. Or "Dumbledore's Army" or "In the Hog's Head" because I love anything with the DA.

pegoheart144
February 13th, 2005, 3:08 am
I can't decided whether I like Dumbledore's Army or The Centaur and the Sneak better. I liked Harry better when he was actively planning against Umbridge and wasn't sitting around brooding. I also thought Dumbledore's escape was very thrilling. :tu:

"The only one He ever feared"
It's jusy wonderful to see DD puting enough strength to battle You-Know-Who, and he is doing it "as discussing the matter over drinks" ! The first time we see our beloved headmaster putting such strength into it. Just a mere tiniest flick of his wand, and even Harry is blown (at least his hair).
The second one is "Seen and Unforseen".
isn't it just fun to see how Um---bridge loses control so quickly?

OotP is such a great book, I can't possibly pick just one. I liked Dudley Demented because it liked seeing Harry lose his temper, also Snape's Worst Memory was great too, it started off great, with Harry seeing his dad and rushing to look at him, and then the whole underwear snape thing, it was funny but at the end I felt sorry for Snape-he was bullied and Harry-his dad was arrogant. I liked the chapters with the DA meetings also, it was funny how Harry was the teacher :p Finally I liked all the chapters where Harry lost his temper, they just seemed to stress that Harry is just a kid.

That one really had a lot of great chapterts: I loved "Dudley dermented" and "Luna Lovegood" (so funny but so was the beginning of the next chapter- anything with Luna Lovegood in it) "Occlumency" and "Snape`s worst memory" were very interesting, and "The noble and most ancient house of black" was great too. Kreacher was amasingly funny and the background information was ... informative.

Have to say I love/hate all the end chapters from end of Beyond The Veil onwards because there's Sirius dying and Harry getting angry big time and the DD/Voldy battle and the good long explanatory talk and the grieving...

I would have to agree with ObsessiveMegz, I love Beyond the Veil, but at the same time I have troubles reading it b/c it is very sad.

February 13th, 2005, 9:37 pm
Oh... hard to choose.
"A Peck of Owls" - my favourite scene with the Dursleys by far... all of them at their best
"The Centaur and the Sneak" - I always enjoy reading these Fudge - Dumbledore confrontations... Dumbledore's calmness and his witty comments, while Fudge is making a fool of himself... never fails to make me smile
"The Only One he ever feared" - the first time we see Dumbledore and Voldemort in a duel... need I really say more?
and finally, "The lost Prophecy", because it was very different from anything before, or that's at least what it seems to me. We get to see another side of Dumbledore, and it's just so... sad, but still really great. You actually get all these feelings between Harry and Dumbledore, and it all just seems so real, that's what I like about it.

Am I one of the few to like "The Only One He Ever Feared"? This chapter was awesome, we finally see Voldemort in full action and we get to see why Dumbledore is the noted as the greatest sorcerer alive. Seriously, it was like seeing the part in AotC where Yoda takes out that lighsaber and owns Dooku in a duel, except it was Dumbledore and Voldemort.

My chldren and I can not read the OWLS chapter, the bit about the divination exam, with out collapsing in fits of hysterical gigggles. but for over all effect it has to be the final chapter and Dumbeldorse's explanation (this chapter has me in tears)... you can see I'm just too emotional!

I think my favorite was the Career Advice one. It was nice to see McGonagall standign up to Umbridge and saying that she would help Harry become an auror. And the end wwith Fred and George flying off into the sunset was cool. And also the chapter when Fred and Geroge let off the fireworks and Hermione saying that she felt a bit rebellious. And I also loved "Luna Lovegood", as Harry meets my favorite character, Luna, in it.

My favorite chapter would have to be "Career Advice." Not only was it the funiest chapter in the whole series, but it was a form of comic relief to the soon to become depressing (but still amazing!) book. I loved Fred & George's departure. That incident will always be remembered among HP fans, as well as by the students at Hogwarts. Also in that chapter that many people seem to forget is when Professor McGonagall stands up to Professor Umbridge (that evil toad!) and tells her "I should have made my meaning plainer...He has achieved high marks in all Defense Against the Dark Arts tests set by a competent teacher." Take that Umbridge! I could only shed tears of happiness as Fred said, "Give her hell from us, Peeves," and as the twins "sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset."

"Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat." --George
