I hope this is the right place to put this. Fan fiction has always seemed to be part plot-speculation to me, which seems to fit in this category. Anyway: I had sworn off fanfiction for awhile, but about two weeks ago, I caved, for Harry Potter. Because the release of HBP is simply too far away. : D
However, something that surprised me was the rampant amount of shipping going on. There doesn't seem to be any character without a shipper community somewhere; everyone and their dog gets together in someone's story somewhere (I'm surprised that no one's decided Sirius met a very nice basset hound after he escaped from Azkaban...).
But anyway, I have a question (and I checked the Shipper editorials for this, but couldn't find much): has JK Rowling commented on the plausibility of any relationships besides the Harry/Hermione? I know she shot that one down at some point. The one I'm particularly interested in is the Sirius/Remus, but I'd be interested in anything Rowling may have commented on. Even if she'd said "I can't tell you because of future books", it would be enough information.
Second question: There's...a lot of good fanfic out there, which at first pleasantly surprised me, and then made me want to throw my computer out the window. There are too many really good options out there. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? You don't have to be specific to just the ship up there, either, and I'm not really against anything, as long as it has a semi-reasonable premise. I also really like stories where romance is only one element, one that isn't particularly important to the story (but still there, no matter how small. I'm still a sap). Does anyone have any stories or authors to recommend? I just...don't know how to navigate the rather large amount of good fics out there.
