I can't believe there's no thread on this. I did a search, but if anyone finds one, post the link please.
This thread is for all things Boston. Live here? Ever live there? Fan of the Sox, the Pats, the Bruins, the Celts? Love that Dirty Water? Been here on vacation, coming here soon, looking at a school? Ever walk the Freedom Trail? Bostonians, unite here!

Oh! I live in Boston. I love it. I am so ecstatic that the Red Sox won the World Series.

Boston is the greatest city in the world; I can't wait to move in there when I transfer schools...which I don't think will happen soon enough.

Ah... I've lived in the Boston area (18 years in Reading and then off to school in Cambridge) for 22 years. And, wouldn't you know, the Sox finally win it all the one year I'm out of the country and unable to see it. I actually taught my students here in France about the Sox/Yankees rivalry and the Curse of the Bambino and turned them into Red Sox supporters. Now I've watched the Pats winning the Super Bowl while in Quebec, the Sox winning the World Series while in France, and John Kerry losing the presidential election also while in France. Oh well... 2 out of 3 isn't too bad! :)
I'll keep coming to this thread for things to remind me of home while I'm away for the year!

My English teacher the first semester of 10th grade is from Boston. Everytime I said the word "car" I would pronounce it "cah" purposely. The only thing that ticks me about Bostonians is that they end words that end in "a" like "Amanda", with "Aman-durr". Other than that, the Bostonians I've met are pretty nice.
BTW, that said English teacher is the one whose house was destroyed because an airplane crashed into it or something. He said it was on the newspaper a whole bunch of years ago.

Boston's great fun. :D I live near enough to it that I can visit quite often, and my parents used to live in Cambridge so I'm no stranger to the city. I'm afraid I don't root for any of the teams, so perhaps I've never had the full Boston experience, but I do love all the Revolutionary sites and Chinatown is great. ^_^

Sorry, soccer fans!
And the Beanpot is coming up. As well as the Comedy Beanpot, with student improve groups from BU, BC, NU, and Tufts (what happened to Harvard? Ivy Leaguers can be funny, too. ) The Band Beanpot, featuring the bands from NU, BC, BU, and Harvard. And, of course, the women's hockey beanpot at Matthews Arena.
Go NU!

Sorry. They are a good band, if that's any consolation.

As the Beanpot approaches, I guess it's time to forget any Boston-wide camaraderie generated by the Sox and the Pats and get down to the business of determining who really is the best in this town. Go Harvard Crimson! We've already beaten both BU and BC this year, and we're ready for any opposition.

^Nah, I gotta take the side of NU on that one. I go there right now, and I think it's just about our time. The running joke is that Professor Dukakis won't go to a Beanpot because the crowds chant "1988" at us. I guess we'll see at round one tomorrow, won't we?
On a side note: Congrats to the Pats! Dynasty!

So Harvard will be playing in the consolation round tomorrow night. Again. For the 7th straight year or something. All my last four years here, at least. It was painful to see that sudden death goal in 2OT, almost as painful as that game against Maine in the NCAA playoffs last season where we led 4-1 at one point, but that's another story... But speaking of Maine, we'll also be playing a recent #1, BC, tomorrow night. It will be tough, but we've beaten them already this season.
As devastating as that was last week, tomorrow night I think Harvard fans will be joining NU and BC fans in rooting for NU against BU. As much as we all complain about our history of underachievement in the Beanpot, NU have had to wait even longer. Hey, they deserve it after the fight they showed last week, even though they beat us. Plus I don't think the rest of Boston can stand watching BU win again. Good luck Huskies!

Thanks for the sentiments, but we lost :upset: in overtime. I kinda see BU and BC like the Yankees; who cares if they win anymore?

Better luck next year, Huskies!

At least the Harvard women's hockey team won the Beanpot for the 7th straight year.
I remember a newspaper column sometime last year when our men's hockey team was going through a difficult stretch of tough losses that said, 'Hey, there's a Harvard hockey team that actually wins all their matches! Why aren't we paying attention to them?' Meaning of course the women's team. I admit that I've never seen them play and most of campus treat them as if they didn't exist, but I should at least recognise them and give them their due...
Anyway, we might be changing our atrocious January exam schedule in the future so that our teams are better prepared for the Beanpot. Maybe next year...

Yeah, I've heard that Harvard's exams are highly annoying. Northeastern is changing our calendar next year, too. This year, spring classes started the first Wednesday of January. From now on, they'll wait until the second Monday. This will give us a solid three weeks of winter break, instead of the terribly short one we've had in the past. The new calendar pushes back spring break to the third week of March. This is excellent. This year, our break starts February 25th. That's way too early for spring break. What's the sense in going home if all my friends from home are at school? Hopefully, my vacation next year will let me actually see some old friends. Graduation is pushed back a year, and the time between Spring and Summer 1, and Summer 2 and Fall, will be reduced to one week each instead of two. But hopefully, my overload will let me go home for the summer instead of taking classes.
Congrats to Harvard Women's Hockey!
