How many books have you actually read? This will be interesting poke:

I would have made this a poll except there was no option to:(
Anyways, I have read all 4 books. o.o
Dedalus
January 10th, 2003, 8:11 pm
*laughs*, well I can't imagine anyone here hasn't read them all! On Harrypotter.com, perhaps ...
Trigger Happy

Well a lot of people sign up and join in conversations they don't know what is about *like me* :p
So yeah, I doubt everybody will have read all the books.

Well, maybe not everybody. Maybe 1 person out ouf 500 haven't. I have read four books and I'm afraid I'm in majority.;)

Do the schoolbooks count? If so, I've read six. Hopefully, I will soon make the figure 7.

January 11th, 2003, 4:00 am
Bilbo swiped my question. It's been a while since I read the schoolbooks, though, and I don't know where my copy of Fantastic Beasts has gone. :(
Bad Rowena! Bad! :banghead:

If they count, I've read six. Most of the people on the boards have read all of the books - from experience, checking out a site before you've finished them is either a bad or silly idea. First, you have spoilers, and second, nothing really makes sense.
Spoilers are never fun. I remember when I meant to read the fourth book of the Wheel of Time and accidently read through two and a half chapters in the eighth before realizing what had happened. I think that's about as bad as a message board or website'll get...only worse.

I've read all four books, about 8-10 times each.

Oh, do schoolbooks count? Then you can poke fun at me, because I haven't read them! :elaugh: But the only reason is that they haven't been published here.:sigh:

Like most other people, I've read all four books countless times (I, quite honestly, can't recall how many times I've read each book). I've also read both schoolbooks, if they count.
A friend of mine has read PoA over 20 times. That's quite a good effort.

I have read all four novels plus the Quiddich schoolbook. I may have read the fantastic beasts one but i can't remember.
Are there only 6 books in total (4 novels, 2 schoolbooks) or more?

All 4 books about 4 -5 times and rising.

January 14th, 2003, 9:03 pm
I've read all 4 as well... nothing new here. I haven't read them in a long time, the last time I picked one up was a few months ago. :sigh: Oh, well. Can't wait to say I've read all 5!
Aoife Diggle
January 14th, 2003, 9:32 pm
I've read both school books a couple of time and all 4 books in and around 20 times I would say, well the first 3 that much at least. I have a rule that I only ever read the books in proper order, so if I want to read GoF again, I have to start at the begining and work my way up! I feel sorry for the rest of the books to come, they will never catch the first 4 up!
I have my plan made for how I am going to read the books when OotP comes out. The month beforehand to prepare myself I am going to read the first 4 again, then read OotP as soon as it comes out. I am going to have to let my brothers read it then and hopefully that won't take too long, then I re-read it to see if I missed anything out. Then after all that I read the 5 books in proper order from the start so I can link up any foreshadowing that came true in OotP!

I've read the four novels and the two school books. I love the school books, they're funny with the hand written notes in the margins and stuff. I've lost count how many times I've read them, but I know it's a lot. Plus now I have three of the four novels on tape, so who needs a book?:p

I've read the four [as they shall be known :)] but I haven't even cast eyes upon copies of the school books. Would they help me cook up even crazier theories?

I've read the 4 books and the two school books. I haven't read any of the helperes. None of them are authorized by Rowling, so I have difficulty bringing myself to buy books that are unauthorized and not approved by the Queen herself.

Hah...yeah, I've read all four. It seems almost silly to even bother telling you that...
I read three of them at once, three years ago. I waited for the fourth, and read it the day it came out. Since then, I've listened to (yes, listened to) all four books....oh, I couldn't tell you how many times. At least fifteen times each, and probably more for Chamber of Secrets and Prizoner of Azkaban. I'm a fan of Jim Dale's audiobooks. I used to listen to them while I did homework, while surfed the net, while I worked out, and at night before I fell asleep. Yes....you could say I was *slightly* overstimulated. Eventually, I started to listen to them less and less, and now I only listen to them at night. It's become a habit; I cannot fall asleep without them.

I've read all four of the books, like, 40 or 50 times apiece. No, seriously, I'm not joking. I mean, I've had them since 1999. Am I weird?
I've read the schoolbooks, too... I got them in a little set for Christmas 2001. You can probably get them at Barnes and Noble in the kids section; that is, if they have B&N in Britain. You can always order them online, but it's really expensive...

Only read the 4 books, I live in Japan at the moment and they don't have any of the school books, from what I have seen. I am, however, making my way, slowly but surely, through PS/SS in Japanese, I think I have some blind hope that in a translation perhaps there is a clue I will notice that I overlook when I read it in English.

I've read all four books three times now (soon to be four or five), even though I've had SS since... well... I think I was one of the first people to read it in my area. My mom thought it sounded interesting, and I agreed, so she ordered it (she's a member of the Science Fiction Book Club, so that's where we always get the Harry Potter books when they come out). I never actually started re-reading them and becoming more of a fanatic about them until sometime a few months ago (like Christmas). I don't know why I never did before, lol.
I've got the school books in this nice little hardcover boxed set... I've read them each once, though I hope to change that soon. :)

I've read them al four over and over and over and over etc. I never stopped! From book 1 I got to nr.2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4... you can't get the school books in the Netherlands (sold out, and they aren't going to make more!!! :( ) but I've ordered them in English (last week's discovery!!! :D ) so I will get them today, maybe tommorow! Yeay! And I've read the first two more times than nr. 3&4 because they are older...but I read them constantly (I have 2 special reading sets, and one hardcover set (also 2 sets ordered from school books) so I've got one perfect set all the time and nobody is allowed to touch them, I don't touch them either! I'm a freak I know... I'm obsessed by Harry...

I've read all four, countless times, but not the fan books or related books, although I've read fanfictions, and participated in online replica's and read online sources relating to it. I thought beyond the HP books, the rest was just merchandise there to make people even more money due to the success of books, which were marvellous in themselves.

Err... all of them....
3 times each now. I plan on reading them each 1 more time before 5 comes out. I think I would have read them more but because of school it took me from November '01 to July '02 to finish them. Amazing. I don't know how I could stand that. I had 5-6 months between 2 and 3. Crazy.......

I have read all of the books (including the school books) at least once. Heh, and I still remember the first time I read them. I refused to put them down and finished them usually within the first day. I am currently rereading The Prisoner of Azkaban, mostly because of all the buzz about the third movie coming out. I figured I better refresh my memory and get all the facts straight before I see the movie version, even though it's months away from being released.. lol.
I can't wait for Order of the Phoenix.

I've read them all once. I only got them recently since we don't really have much cash for books. :( Hubby just got them for me as an early birthday present.
I still want to get the Hardcovers though. Mine are American. Took 1 day per book. I don't have any school books yet.
Interesting to read, I am sure, but they'll have to wait.
I think my hubby may be planning on buying me OoTP :D
Then I plan to read them all in order again.

He probably was including the schoolbooks (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Quidditch Through the Ages).
I have read all four books(six including those) over and over. Well, not all in the same chapter order. After about reading each book five times cover to cover, I start reading them out of chapter order...one minute I'm on chapter 4...the next minute...24! I do this mainly because I favor some parts of the story over others, and also because I want to see if I can catch any of those subtle clues. I also use them for refrence, such as looking for quotes. I have read them a lot, I read them almost everyday when I'm eating a snack or something...so I'd say at least 20 times on each book, if not more.
Also, I've been reading Goblet of Fire a lot more than the others. I lent it out to someone and just got it back (and I have been reading it like a madman), but also have been reading it in preperation for the new book! Thyme_of_Change and I have similar thinking strategies!

The Magical Worlds Of Harry Potter doesnt count though because it wasn't written by JKRowling.

July 12th, 2003, 11:22 pm
Yep all 5. The last one I have only read once so far, the others I have read a few times. I have also read JK's 2 school books and a few other books on the Harry Potter series. I figure most people HAVE read all the books, or maybe they just watched the 2 movies and got hooked on them. But I hope they will take an interest in reading the other books, if that is the case. I have never been much of a reader, and I saw the 1st movie before I even knew who HP was. I watched it several times and liked it. Then borrowed the 4 books from my sister and got hooked. Now I'm a huge fan, one of the ones that was dressed up, waiting at the bookstore for 4 hours to buy the 5th book!!!

Well, as for me, I've read Philsopher's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Askaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, Quidditch Through the Ages, and Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them. Those last two are for charity and are in fact very informative and interesting. I really like Magical Beasts, but I can't find my copy and I've been looking for it forever. As for fanfiction, about two/three years ago, when we were all waiting for Order of the Phoenix, I discovered this site called fanfiction.net, clicked on Books-> Harry Potter-> >100,000 words, and discovered the world of fanfiction. And that held me satisfied for about seven months, and then the well of new fanfiction started turning up dry, and I had to start searching hard and looking elsewhere.
I found FictionAlley, and the well filled up again and I was content until Book 5 came out. Now I'm just searching, wandering aimlessly like a drunken idiot, looking for a new book/fanfiction to catch my interest. Although there is one fanfic I'm waiting to come to comepletion; it's a sixth-year fic called Harry Potter and the something something. It's good though, so hopefully it'll last me for the next infinate number of years until book 6 comes out.

Wow! I can't believe how many people have only read up to book 4! You know there is a 5th one out right?! Well, I've read all 5. I haven't read the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, or Quidditch Through the Ages. I think it would be cool to read those books that are supposed to tell you the secrets of Harry Potter though.

I have read all five of them plus the two school books. I love the side comments that the Trio writes in them. :D I have read all of the novels less then twenty times, except for CoS because it's my least favorite, which I've probably read only twice. My favorite one though has to be PoA, I can read that one over and over again. My friends think I need help because I always keep one close so I can read it if I'm bored.

ok, so i'm the only cheater I've seen in this thread so far. I havn't "actually" read the first four, I listened to them on tape. I don't like to read and I love the stories so much that I have all five on audio book. I did, however read fantastic beasts and I read the fifth book, not just listened.

Who cares how you read them, as long as you love them that's all that matters. I think there is actually a plus side to the tapes instead of reading...you'll never mispronounce something! :tu:

I've read all five books. I'm actually reading them for about the tenth time now(I know pathetic  but they are just so amazing that I feel like I can never stop reading them, maybe they gave me some of those cursed books that Ron mentions in CoS where you can never stop reading them :scared: ) plus I've read the two school books.

Prisoner of Azkaban -2

Chamber of Secrets: 5 times (I get bored)
Prisoner of Azkaban: 16 times (I can't be sure...just making a good guess based on how many book reports and research I have done with this book, it's my favorite and I'm reading it for the 3 time since May 4th...had to do something to stay sane waiting for the movie!)
Goblet of Fire: 5 times (going to read it again for research matters)
Order of the Phoenix: 3 times (in the middle of 4th times-stopped because of PoA movie)

Let's see...
I've read books 1-4 2 times. I read them once at the start of my freshmen year in college (that would be in 2002), and then I read them again right before book 5 came out.
I've read book 5 once. This book is my least fav book of the series, so it will only get read again once I've read books 1-4 through again.
I've read Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Throughout the Ages, oh, I don't know, probably twice. I read them all the way through once and I've probably flipped and nipped through them again another time.
I've also read the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to the Mysteries of Harry Potter once. I've read that the new one for the OotP isn't that good, so I'll probably delay on reading that one (more like buying it since I'm a poor college student).

GOF - About 10 times
OOTP - So far 4 times, but I'm always picking it up to read again, actually I just started on my 5th time a few days ago.

Sad as it is, first Harry Potter I read was The Order of the Phoenix. I got it the day it came out. One reason was that the cover was blue. Slightly obsessed with the color.
Then I read Prisoner of Azkaban after I saw the movie. After that I decided that I couldn't wait a year for the Goblet of Fire movie, so incidently I read that book.
I tried reading Sorceror's Stone in 5th Grade to see what all the fuss was about, but I just couldn't get it for some reason. This happened about a month before the movie came out.
I think I have a habit of doing things out of order like that, and buying anything that's blue....
